Question about Zagreus and Thanatos Fanart

Okay, I’m sorry, this has taken so much of my headspace, you have no fucking idea. So I’m desperate enough to put this question out there in the Hellsite to try to get some clarification.

So I’m a latecomer in the Hades (2018 game) fandom. Really into it, this game is fun, the story is lovely if not an outright meme, and the fandom is hilarious (jesus christ the natural phenomenon of multiple completely separate medias deciding to incorporate each other’s stories into itself...*side-eyes Song of Achilles*). 

That being said...Why are all ZagThan/ThanZag fanart so fucking sweet? Like, this isn’t even me gushing, though I do gush. Artists will be drawing a rated R, 18+, detailingly explicit, we’re-all-GOING-to-Tartarus fanart for these two and it somehow carries the sweetness of the art that just has them hugging. No matter WHAT THEY’RE DOING, it’s tooth-achingly adorable and fluffy. You look at any other fanart (Zagreus with Meg, Thanatos with Ares, them by themselves). And if the artist is going for a smexy composition, it’s pretty smexy. But you put them together and somehow, every piece I’ve ever seen is just so loving, even when they’re fucking folding each other in half.

Can someone clarify if there is an explanation for this?! Or is this just entirely in my head?!?!?!
