The whales were captured last year for sale to entertainment parks in China.⠀ -⠀ “It will be the summer period for sure,” Dmitry Kobylkin said. “We would like it to happen as soon as possible.” While Kobylkin’s comments do not constitute a formal decision on the part of the Russian government, they are a clear step forward. Via @paulhiltonphoto Repost @racingextinction Since the news broke of arsonists being arrested for setting bushfires in Australia, we've seen a lot of confusion on both mainstream and social media discussing why the climate crisis is being blamed for these fires.⁠ While the climate crisis itself may not have lit the match, it's what separates these fires from ones in the past and what's causing them to be so destructive. It's also the reason they will likely get worse.⁠ Bushfires aren't uncommon in Australia, neither is arson, but the climate crisis has intensified them with record-breaking heat and worsening droughts that have dried vegetation and soil. This dry brush ignites easily causing fires to spread quickly and making them difficult to control.⁠ With the very existence of climate change being politicized by governments, including Australia, we've seen climate change deniers using news of the arson arrests to undermine the link between the climate crisis and the bushfires. Beautiful at first sight.. But this thing is devestating for the animals that lives around it. What you see in the photo is a bacteria that emits hydrogen sulfide. It creates a deadly low-oxygen condition. . . Hydrogen sulfide is poisonous to all living organisms. It’s a veil of death. In this place I usually see a lot of fish, shrimp, starfish, and crabs. Yesterday it was almost empty, only a few jellyfishes swam above it. Whats causing this?
