Things had been bad ever since leaving Quinn’s place. On his way home, he’d been followed by a red Mitsubishi Excel for several circles of his block, before it finally shot away down a side street and left him. At best, it had been one of Quinn’s people, tailing him to keep him safe and out of trouble… but it could just as easily have been a vampire hunter already on his trail.

Nat’s obsessive thoughts had been bouncing around seemingly at random ever since, latching onto whatever they could dig their claws into whether it made logical sense or not. Earlier that morning, he’d been convinced a bomb would hit his apartment building, and he still hadn’t quite shaken the belief. He was scared to stay put, but more scared to leave, to be around people. He had Alex’s stamp of approval, but what did Alex know?

Nat ground his teeth, scratched at his arms. He could hear almost every going-on of the apartment building around him—people were shuffling about, talking, laughing, fucking each other. The constant stream of reminders that humans were nearby, separated from him only by flimsy locks and cardboard walls, probably would have triggered his hunting instincts by now if he hadn’t been too afraid to move a muscle. Moreso than food, humans were threats—every time he heard a body come past his door he tensed all over, waiting for someone to come bursting in to end his miserable life.

The itch in his throat whispered to him that more blood would soothe him, calm him. And he did want more, but he’d already finished off one bottle and he needed to make this batch last. The thirst came in waves he was trying to ride: the past twenty-four hours had been an endless cycle of his teeth and fingernails falling out, regrowing, falling out, each time more unfamiliar than the last.

Presently, two teeth sprouted from the same root, a scattering jutted sideways and into his cheeks, one was a jagged stalactite from the centre of his hard palate. Most of the teeth littering the floor looked halfway between a human tooth and a fang, mangled and misshapen. And there were a lot of teeth littering the floor; he needed to vacuum his apartment. The situation was dire.

― There have been an increasing number of reports from amateur hunters returning unsuccessfully, claiming an undead mark killing clan targets before its members can get to them as the reason for it.

More experienced hunters however have recently confirmed that this one is no mark at all, but rather a peculiar steppe warrior who is far away from home. The man tells little about himself or what his goals are, but introduces himself as Jargai Dotharl to those who are social enough to dare conversing for longer than a few minutes.

Hunters who come across Jargai have conflicting opinions of him. Some describe him as a formidable warrior who can take down even the most vicious of marks with only his own sword. Others claim that he is all but useless in a fight, dropping his weapon from the slightest bit resistance and collapsing on the ground while writhing from what looks to be incredible pain.

He accepts neither coin nor company for his feats, but rather trades in information exclusively. He reaches out for clues about a strange individual who he cannot describe in any manner of detail, and then gets irate and leaves when people inevitably don't know who he's referring to. He refuses to show anyone his face, covering it underneath a shroud at all times.

Truly not an easy individual to get along with, but most that interact with him will still conclude that he is overall a reliable fellow, all things considered.

Still, most people with sense keep their distance. While the vast majority of them would be unable to pinpoint why, there's no denying the strange air that hangs over him like a dark cloud.

Jargai prefers it that way. The dead and living have no business being friends with each other.

In other news I just made 130 wishes on the Sky's Embrace banner with the tickets I had saved up. Guess how many Sylus 4 stars I got? 0. Nada. Zilch. From 130 wishes. Meanwhile I got multiple 4 stars of the OG3. I wish I could say that this is a rare occurence for me but it really isn't. That's simply how low the odds are of pulling Sylus vs any of the OG3. I got a little luckier with Caleb, but all of the OG3 still came home a lot more than him as well. This is exactly one of the reasons why Sylus — and soon Caleb, I presume — mains are pleading with Paperfold to give us the rest of his base content or at least increase the droprate of his cards b/c frankly 130 pulls and not a single 4 star is bullshit.
