i've been thinking—how Sylus is "always" rescuing something, take animals for example. And it struck me, suddenly, with that awful clarity that feels like a knife turning—maybe he does it because once, long ago, there was no one to rescue him.

Because there was a time when he was small, all scales and bones and fear, a dragon shivering in the dark with no hand reaching for him. Cast out. Unwanted. And in the eyes of every wounded, cornered thing, he sees that same terror, that same hollow ache of being left to die quietly where no one would notice.

So he takes them in. Not because he believes he can erase their pain, but because he cannot allow the world to be as merciless as it once was to him.

...And now I’m crying.

Since I am participating in the boycott I won't be posting anything about the banner for the duration of it, including reblogs of fanart etc. Nor will I discuss theories or analyze. This to give the banner as little visibility as possible.

For anyone wondering why many of us are boycotting, here's a list by Twitter user @/_sylussorceress. I highly encourage everyone to read through it and then make up your own minds whether you would like to join us.

What does boycotting entail?

Well:

Not spending any money for the duration of the banner. That includes on items such as Aurum Passes or Daily/Weekly Packs

Not promoting the banner. Whether that be by posting screenshots, gifs, writing theories, making or reblogging fanart. The aim is to avoid advertising it or encouraging others to spend

As for pulling, if you have the dias/tickets for it, then go for it. The goal is to hit the company where it hurts, aka in the finances.

Trying to limit your activity on the app during the first three days (that includes not pulling!) – the first few days of a banner are the most significant to company metrics, and the company will notice if the banner doesn't hit its projection numbers.

Spreading awareness of the boycott, either by reblogging posts about it or by making your own!

An important thing to note is that we are doing this not just from a place of "enough is enough" and to protect our rights as consumers, but also out of real love for and care about the game and its characters. We want to see LADS thrive and be around for years to come, but as things stand right now with how downright shitty the company is treating its customers and refusing to do anything about very serious issues, that is becoming unlikely. Not to mention how F2P unfriendly the game is rn – I'd even say it is unfriendly to non-Dolphins/non-Whales atp. Unless you're willing to R3 your main every banner (especially as a Sylus/Caleb main) you are severely disadvantaged... and if comments by actual Paperfold employees are to be believed, not valued or even welcome. A truly vile attitude to hold towards your own consumers and the people that help make the game commercially succesful (b/c many F2Ps do help the game through posting about it on social media, making edits/fanarts/fics). But regardless of what the consumers bring, it's a disgusting way to treat your own playerbase.

This behavior is not sustainable in the long run is what I'm saying. I mean the game has not been out two years and already it has more than one potential lawsuit dangling above its head, both for false advertising/deceiving its consumers.

Like I said yesterday, it truly is sad to see just how scummy and shamelessly predatory this game is, how much of a blatant cash grab it's become. And how things will only go down from here if we keep letting them get away with this crap.

Ok but the fact that Paperfold has bombarded us with items/content for this banner and NOT A SINGLE THING is free is honestly disgusting

Such a huge fuck you to the playerbase, F2Ps in particular.

Like the Chocolate Shop is RIGHT THERE? Why tf is everything going to the Lunar Shop?

Mind you this bullshit while running a Multi after a freaking Myth like this is greed on a Leviathan scale

And still not a single word addressing the lack of content for Sylus and Caleb, the lighting issues with darker skinned MCs, the false advertising, the severe issues with the KoD companion, the need for more sustainable ways to farm for dias, the lack of things to actually do in the base game, the Zayne VA situation, the fact that Orbits are fucking impossible for non-Whales... did I miss anything?

I'm ngl it's legit killing some of my love for this game... I've found it hard to be as enthusiastic about it as I normally would :/ and it sucks b/c I used to be levitating out of my bed with hype whenever any new Sylus content was released but now... idk. I still love Sylus and I will still pull for the memory after the first 3 days of the banner (because I have more than enough dias for it), but the scumminess of this company is just getting more and more shameless... Just like a lot of us Sylus mains in particular predicted and tried to warn others about months ago... but then we were called greedy and ungrateful and gaslit by a large portion of the fanbase 🙃 Welp

It's just a shame to see a game with such potential be increasingly reduced to a cash grab with no regard at all for the players. You know, the very people that have carried the game this far.

Okay but his panicked little gasp as MC falls? Another instance of how MC almost/actually getting hurt is the only thing that is capable of cracking Sylus' composure :( his third myth – where going by the trend, MC will probably die – is going to hurt

Now that I think about it... there's been a couple of instances recently of MC falling or tripping, and of Sylus catching/grabbing her to ensure he doesn't lose her... hmmm... is that future myth angst foreshadowing I smell? In a few months we will all be in Spain without the S my fellow girlies :')

On a lighter note, the fact that Sylus can pull MC up with just one arm is 🫦

"sylus, do you want kids?"

it's taken you three years to finally gather the courage to pose that question. neither of you ever brought it up, and it's probably because you'd mentioned a personal distaste for the notion of having them back in the early days of your relationship. you didn't want the inconvenience, the pain, the pressure, the change, the loss of comfort. you'd always had the mindset that you'd rather regret never having children than regret having them. you won't let your children, if you ever have any, grow up thinking they were a mistake and unwanted.

he stops in his movements with the bowl in front of him. he's currently making dinner, stirring the marinade for the beef he's going to stir fry, and looks over at you. you're sitting on a stool at the island bench to his left, enjoying a glass of wine, but your mood sobered when the lighthearted conversation from earlier died down into companionable silence, and your mind wandered to other things. why they strayed to the prospect of children and finally starting a family? you haven't the faintest idea.

"what makes you ask?" is his reply. careful, quiet, trying to work out where you're going with this. sylus finally starts placing the beef strips into the sauce to marinate, and then he gets started on chopping vegetables. you get up to grab out the wok for him, and shrug. "dunno. just a thought."

"it's your call, sweetheart," he says softly, hands deft as the kitchen resounds with the sound of a knife hitting wood. "you said you never wanted them."

"yeah." you pour some oil into the wok and grab out a knife also, cutting the ends of an onion off and peeling it. "it's just, well...i never asked what you wanted, you know? you say it's my call, but it's yours, too. we're married and what all those stories call 'one flesh'. it takes two, so it's your choice as well."

"i understand that you don't want to experience labour. i can't say i'm eager to see you in such agony, either."

"but it's well-rewarded," you reply, slowly slicing the onion, thoughts all over the place. "at least, that's what happy couples and families say. we're a happy couple. i think you'd make an excellent father. you're good with kids."

it's silent for a few moments, where there's just the sound cutting and slicing and scraping of knives against two boards, and then sylus speaks up again. "i've always wished to have children with you."

you stop, staring at the diced vegetable in front of you, and tears spring to your eyes. it's the sting of the onion, that's all it is. "...yeah?"

"yeah."

"i see." you lift your shoulder and turn your head to wipe your eyes against your shirt, sniffling. it's the onion. just the onion. "for how long?"

"years." two large, tanned hands enter your blurred line of sight, take the knife out of your hand, and engulf them in his own. you're blinking rapidly, trying to expel the sting and surging emotions and you peer up at your husband through the tears. you can make out a soft smile. "i was sad when you said you didn't want any, but i understood. i still do."

"what if..." you give up on your shirt and step into his chest to use his. just to wipe the tears. not to bury your face into it. "what if i've changed my mind?"

"then i'd be overjoyed."

"it's going to be hard."

"yes, it will, but when isn't everything?"

you grin a little, sniffling. "girl or boy?"

he rubs loving circles into your back. "i've always wanted a baby girl."

"just one?"

"why?" sylus eases you away from him enough snicker down at you. "eager for more?"

you smack his bicep, flushed, biting back laughter. "you know that's not what i meant, you big oaf!" you let him chuckle and let yourself get all hot and bothered, and then you sober a little. "it's just, well...the kid's gotta have siblings, you know?"

"it's still your call, sweetheart."

"i'm asking you what you want, though. how many?"

sylus appears to ponder it for a moment, arms still wrapped around you. "hm. three? four? perhaps two. we've already got enough on our plate."

"with the twins, you mean?"

his answering grin is soft. "yeah. if you want."

you squish your face back into his chest, inhaling his scent, listening to his heartbeat, savouring his warmth. "...four'll do."

"what if there's an unplanned fifth?"

"then that'll be your fault. and then we'll have five kids."

full, familiar lips you adore so much brush the top of your head in a sweet peck. "that sounds nice, doesn't it?"

perhaps you've softened to the idea of childbirth and having mini syluses and mini yous darting about the place. getting in your way, getting in his way, wailing and giggling and whining for ice cream. it's something you can easily imagine with this man.

so you clutch him to you tightly, smiling. "yeah. it does."

You and Sylus fight over your daughter’s first words—well, what her first words are going to be, at least. 

Sylus had bet you that she’ll say ‘dada’ first. “Statistically speaking, the d sound is easier for babies to make.”

Whereas, of course, you want her first word to be ‘mama.’ As you never fail to remind him, “I’m the one whose body did all the work.” It’s only fair. 

So it begins. You spend entire days just talking to your daughter. ‘Mama’ this, ‘mama’ that. Though, you only get her giggles in return, just toothless smiles and squinted eyes. She understands, but unluckily, no words.

Your combined competitiveness truly shines whenever you and Sylus are both in the room with her. Not a moment of silence. Or peace.

“Baby, look at mama! Ma-ma!” You coo, pushing Sylus’s face out of her view.

“No, princess, don’t listen to mama. Look over here,” in a voice so uncharacteristically sweet and high in pitch.

You nearly think that Sylus will have his way. It’s exactly what he wants you to think.

Until one night, by simply passing by the nursery where Sylus was doing bedtime duty, you hear something so unexpected, never-imaginable coming from his voice. 

“One more time for me princess, ma-ma. See my mouth, Ma. Like that.”

And she almost gets it. You make it the closest that you can get to the open door without being seen, before hearing a quiet and almost incomprehensible “ma” in your daughter’s voice. 

Because this has what Sylus has been doing all along behind your back. During bathtime, in between spoonfuls of soft food, and now before bed, Sylus has only put your name before his. You were going to get what you wanted either way.

At this point, he wouldn’t even be surprised if your daughter didn’t know what name to call him at all. Which is fine. After all, it is your body that did all the work.
