Steve knows the kids are obsessed with the newest up and coming metal band, Corroded Coffin, even though their music is actually terrible. But when Robin of all people begs Steve take them to the band's next gig, he relents.

Everything starts to make a lot more sense when they walk up to the stage and there's an honest to god Siren behind the microphone, a guitar slung low on his hips with magic wafting off him in waves over the crowd.

The singer clocks him immediately and quickly schools the flash of surprise in his eyes into something more flirtatious.

Steve smiles, the cat that caught the canary. He was right. Their music really does suck, and he can't wait until tomorrow when he can rub it in his tiny human friends' faces.

Tonight, however, he's going to ruffle a pretty boy's feathers.

Eddie knows his music's horse shit, tailor made for humans- sue him, they needed the money. So he's always a little surprised when another creature finds their way to his concerts. It happens on occasion, and of course they're always welcomed. He's seen all sorts on their tour.

But something as beautifully unholy as a Nephilim?

The man with the auburn hair and hazel eyes surrounded by a gaggle of children glows with a golden aura so soft and warm Eddie's almost left speechless. Almost.

He's caught staring, but he can't take his eyes away. So Eddie does what Sirens do best. He preens, puffs his sleek black feathers just enough for only the man in the crowd to see and sings. A move typically saved for encores, the crowd goes wild with energy and pushes their way towards the stage.

The Nephi laughs, full-bodied with mirth at the antics. A beacon of golden light bursts from him, control of his halo slipping just the slightest.

It's unearthly, it's sinful, and Eddie falls to his knees in worship. The men and women caught in the halo turn to him, smiling and leaning in and touching what is Eddie's--

But the Angel relaxes, the halo draws back, and the peoples' hands fall away even though their eyes linger.

None of that matters when the Angel blows him a kiss. Eddie knows, deep in the hollows of his bones, that when he finds him after the show, he'll stretch his Angel's wings and show him just how bright his halo can glow.

Hello, how are you?

I've read your last post and wanted to ask you something: do you think that this anxiety of the ancient Greeks about the dangers of a free and uncontrolled female sexuality can also be seen in the way Circe and Calypso are presented?

They are two negative characters (in the case of Circe at least initially), but is it a coincidence that two negative female characters are depicted in this specific way (living alone, having sex freely, singing, no permanent ties with men)?

I would like to know what you think about it.

hi! thank you for the question and an opportunity for me to mull over this subject some more.

oh i absolutely consider calypso and circe important elements of that permeating "anxiety about women's unfettered sexuality" theme in the odyssey, and i think their portrayal is no accident. both women live outside of societal rules about "the woman's place" and both represent major threats to odysseus' homecoming. calypso very directly as someone keeping him against his will for her own sexual pleasure (and "hidden from himself" as elizabeth vandiver puts it), circe more indirectly as someone whose company and home is so enticing that odysseus can't help but postpone his departure. i think if clytemnestra is the cautionary example of dangerous female sexuality breaking the bonds of civilized marriage and gender roles, the potential danger of circe and calypso, who live outside of those norms entirely, is huge.

helene foley also makes some interesting points about how at both calypso's and circe's islands, there is no perceptible need for industry, commerce or agriculture, so there are no spheres for a man to take control of. also the sex doesn't result in any pregnancies (in the odyssey at least! i know there are plenty alternate myths where it does) so even the male physiological function as conceiver is kept in check. i'm not saying that i imagine odysseus wishes to impregnate either calypso or circe, but i think that their situation might imply a sort of topsy-turvy "unnatural" (to an ancient presumably male listener) world where sex is for female pleasure and now serves no reproductive function. with no traditional male role to fit into on either island odysseus is unmanned, as it were, by the powerful women delaying his homecoming.

actually i'd go so far and say that the odyssey's theme of sexual anxiety towards women even includes scylla and charybdis. y'know. female monstrous entities who voraciously consume men.

for those who don’t knooooowww this fella is named Operative Tear and he was Reginald’s nemesis for a set of missions back when he was a field agent (somewhere around ten to fifteen years before the games). also he’s voiced by John Mulaney (introductory post here)

for the majority of their time against each other, they had that classic spy v spy dynamic: fairly goofy, a little flirty, plenty of banter built on mutual begrudging respect. they’re both comedians at their core, never quite taking their respective roles seriously, and they played off of each other well. HOWEVER, the dynamic shifted dramatically when Tear successfully trapped Reggie in a collapsing building (if you’ve read Five Star Feature, you already know this story!) this is when Reggie got his eyebrow slit. assuming he was dead, his handler cut contact and Tear offered him a job at Zoraxis while he was vulnerable. Reggie ALMOST took the deal, but instead just let Tear get him out of the rubble before running straight back to the Agency. this made Tear really mad, and for the final mission of that particular set they were genuinely trying to kill each other (see the top right sketch.) Reggie gave Tear a facial scar during that confrontation, and after that they were both assigned elsewhere and didn’t see each other for like fifteen years. eventually, Reggie was made lead support agent, and Operative Tear was put in charge of guarding Zoraxis’ most valuable assets. their story picks back up when they’re both assigned to Operation: Paper Crane.

…and thus the two meet again. don’t want to give too much away since that’s Ollie at the Agency spoilers, but i bet you can guess the basics. in conclusion, anon, i am ALSO normal about this <- lying

Lore wise he can heal you right away but would still pull some bs about how you have to stay with him longer so he could properly monitor your condition. But that's no fun lol, we'll let him cradle mini siren you on his massive palm and coo and feel like momma for once, he earned it, takes you outside a couple of times a day to feel the sea breeze, of course he doenst want anything in return other than your health but in his mind he still believes that he could...fix you and get you to love him the way he does TAT HE IS LOVING GETTING TO TAKE CARE OF YOU THO and can you blame him ?? I’m cackling at the idea of Eclipse and humpback YN having their own baby but said baby grows bigger than their papa like he’s holding the baby when they’re born and is upset when it gets older and he can’t carry his baby anymore >:(

That's adorable, ahhh!

A baby between an orca siren and a humpback siren would have a lovely mix of traits from both parents--the baby is bigger than orca siren young but smaller than humpback siren young, so the kid isn't too huge, but still an impressive weight to Eclipse! You would fret over the baby's 'small' size but between the two of you, you both ensure the infant has more than enough food to grow big and strong.

Eclipse loves being a father. He's holding the baby in his arms and cooing and singing sweet lullabies. He just can't believe this little pearl is gonna grow up so big one day but for now, he'll hold his kid as close as he can, when he's not adoring how sweetly you cradle the child (our baby.)

Eclipse is still gonna hold his (not so small) baby even after the years go by, but he does miss when he could cradle the kid.
