Fiber arts update: dubious experiments in fiber prep?

So I was spinning up and plying some old rolags:

And somehow my rolags always turn out weird and lumpy. And yes, some of that's just the sari silk bits, but I just cannot make rolags without weird slubs and noils in them.

So, I bought some cheap dog brushes to use as blending board brushes, and, hey, suddenly my rolags aren't quite as lumpy anymore!

(They're also workable for making kinda bad and lumpy cotton rolags, but more on that soon)

(merino (and corriedale?) from rolags, plus a tiny length of Bergschaf (Tyrolean mountain sheep) carded into a minuscule monstrosity)

It's hard to see in the images, but this is much better!

So then I turned some more Bergschaf into rolags...

Now, yes, this is still quite thick-and-thin, but that's not due to my sucky fiber prep, that's just Bergschaf being... really more for the wet-felters. The staples are *maybe* an inch and a half, and lose most of that length to a disorganized, random, angular kind of crimp. Not really a joy to touch, either (the fibers go up to 38 mic), and honestly kind of a pain in the ass to try and draft evenly... but A) I got this in a bag of mill-ends and might as well use what I have, and B) it just makes such a darn interesting yarn, and it comes in a few lightly heathered, bold colors that are just ridiculously pretty. Not sure what to make of this, but it'll probably involve a pin loom.

Okay I need to spell out my thoughts about the Luigi Mangione stuff goin on

I am not at all convinced he did it. And not in a "no way he and I were hanging out that day at that time in Panama" way either, even though we totally were but that's besides the point.

So I've seen other people discuss how it doesn't make sense for someone who had thought out and executed a plan for the murder AND escape so flawlessly, only to be caught with all that incriminating evidence in-hand a week later at a McDonalds in another state, which is obviously kinda a huge deal, but I have further thoughts on what's going on.

So Luigi does indeed look like the Starbucks security footage, and it does seem that he had used a fake ID to stay in the hostel (assuming it was him in the hostel to begin with, and I only say this out of an assumption that the hostel verified the ID used and that we're not just taking the police's word for it, but it'd also just be easier for the police to be like "yeah he used his real actual ID and that's how we got him" so I'm fairly confident about a fake ID being used). We know that he had been missing for months ahead of time, and we know that he had been suffering from chronic back pain prior to a spinal surgery.

Why don't I think he did it? Well aside from the questionable legitimacy of the "evidence" he was found with, after that Starbucks photo came out, EVERYBODY was immediately like "that looks nothing like the shooter". Sure, you can add a change of clothes and people have pointed out that the unibrow can disappear on grainy footage, but from what else you can see of the face, it does not look the same. Once again you could chalk it up to poor image quality... but then how can you match an identity in the first place?? The NYPD have never come out with any good justification as to WHY they thought the guy on the starbucks camera was thought to be the shooter. It wasn't even the same damn jacket! In my opinion, in their frenzy to not look completely incompetent and catch The Guy, they were just throwing everything they could and were ready to go all-in on framing investigating Literally Anyone that could function as a reasonable scapegoat.

"But his profile and circumstances really line up to make it look like he was radicalized by his pain and Absconded to Do a Murder!"

While this is a good point on a surface level, I'm not convinced that it lines up the way this narrative is playing it, and I think the NYPD just got really lucky with this scapegoat.

"His Back Pain Radicalized Him": HE HAD HIS BACK SURGERY, AND MADE A FULL RECOVERY. He wasn't denied by his insurance - and according to a post he made on reddit, he was completely off pain meds a week after! All things considered, the insurance worked out pretty damn well for him! Oh yeah and HE HAD BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD

"Then Why Did He Go Missing?": Think about it. He was an upper class kid who had been crippled by back pain for a significant portion of what should have been his fun years. I don't think anyone has to stretch their imagination to think that maybe he'd fuck off somewhere on his own to reclaim that lost time? Just, source a fake ID so your family doesn't find you, hopping from town to town in budget-friendly accomodations and happening to be in NYC when A Guy gets shot (crazy). Sure, kind of a dick move to just not tell anyone what he was planning to do, but we don't know what his relationships with his family were like, nor do any of us know him personally as to what he would and wouldn't do, no matter how many news articles of what kind of guy he is come out.

So really, which is more likely:

The Adjuster was a guy that was radicalized after the healthcare system, under a different provider, worked for him, after which he planned out a meticulous murder + escape plan only to effectively give himself up a week later?

OR

The incompetent undewfunded and ovewwowked uwu NYPD was desperate to not look like complete fucking idiots regarding such a high profile case in their jurisdiction, but because they never learned how to do their fucking jobs wewe just sooo undewfunded and ovewwowked uwu they just threw a bunch of shit at the wall until something stuck and happened to get lucky that the guy they found happened to have been A) a missing person and B) Had A Serious Medical Thing At Some Point

They approved the Medicaid budget cuts and I have to make a series of uhhh consequential decisions and put a lot of moving parts into motion very fast and in general act with more decisiveness and haste and, frankly, executive function than is usually within my capabilities but I remembered the Stefania-Jelonka correspondence begins in 1925 (although Cybulska dates it 1926; I think her forensics are off by a year for a variety of reasons). We are going to take a "relax" edible and re-read the early letters and calm down and then:

A brief smutty moment

The turtles were in the lair training in the dojo. Leonardo and Donatello were effortlessly sparring while Raphael, Mikey, and Splinter watched on the side. They couldn't be better matched as they executed their moves flawlessly. Donnie has since become very skilled in combat and has gained a fair amount of muscle. Leonardo also excelled in his fighting style, he has improved his skills as a ninja and a leader. Once again, showing they are a force to be reckoned with.

Having devoted hybrid mates only added to the turtle's strengthened abilities.

"Geez, Donnie. Your about to give me a run for my money!" Leo compliments, sharing a fist bump with his brother.

"Ya ain't much of a wimp anymore. Kenzi must be giving it to ya good for you to......"

Donnie was quick to throw a ninja star at his brother, missing.

"Shut it, Raph. After what I walked in on last week. You shouldn't talk at all!" Donnie snapped back, still processing Alopex's and Raphael's animalistic love-making.

"Next time, Knock. Ya got brains, use em!" Raphael threw it back along with a wet towel.

Leonardo ans Mikey just grinned. They were all still their usual and well-seasoned selves. Improving without fail, much thanks to the lovely ladies they've bonded with and made official oaths to.

Leonardo checked his phone to look through his photos. Coming across a few of Dinah, laced in leather lingerie, hair loose, her panther tail curled for her terrapin lover. He licks his lips at the image.

'You've been so bad. Plaguing me with you beauty. I Love You, girl!'

Mikey was stroking the scarf wrapped around his wrist. A gift from Charlie he has cherish since the night she said yes to his proposal, making them mates for life. The scarf had traces of her fox fur, specifically picked from her tail. Every now and then he'll smell the scarf, comforted to know she's always by his side.

'I adore you, my Vixy. So so so so much.'

"Leo, he's doing it again!" Donnie whispered to Leo, after catching Mikey sniffing the scarf. Again.

Not wanting to humiliate his brother, he instructed the guys to take 5 to recuperate.

At their base posted in the subway station not far from the turtles lair, the Muses are also in the middle of training. Dinah and Alopex were in a heated sparring match, while Charlie watched and Kenzi proceeded to do some preparations for their upcoming assignment. "You're improving very well, Dinah." Alopex complimented as Dinah swung her kusari-gama at Alopex and missed. "Well? Big Sister I'm on fire!" She grunted, her panther tail curling as she wrapped Alopex throrough in her chains, subduing her. Charlie clapped,"That was awesome. This is a rare occasion where one of us brings SheHulk 2 to her knees!" Kenzi chuckled at Charlie's remark.

Kenzi gets a call on her cell. It was their mother Rebecca Vincent.

"Hi mom. How are you?" She asks, multi-tasking working the monitors and talking to the Chief.

"I've seen better days, sweety. Wheres your sisters?"

"Alopex and Dinah are bringing their sparring to a close. Charlie is sitting here looking stupid!" She sasses. Charlie throws one of her needle blades, Kenzi dodges as the blade penetrates the subway car. They stuck their tongues out at each other.

"Very nice. How are the preparations?" She asked Kenzi, dismissing their silly banters.

"Going accordingly. I'll be tweaking with the jet some more. Make sure it continues to function flawlessly." She responds, feeling a sense of pride for one of her finest works.

"Don't tweak too much. I don't wanna find out about any explosions!" Chief groaned.

"Understood, mom. I'll be alright." She reminds her.

"You've all improved so much over the pass few years. Kazuki and Angel as well." Chief says with a smile.

The girl's hybrid little brother along with Angel and their dance crew have went viral the night of the basketball game. Attracting much needed attention from struggling neighborhoods and broken homes. Their performance caught the attention of a few famous basketball players who saw their potential. Agreeing to take them under their wing, becoming their sponsors, going global in the process. Kazuki was taught to keep his hybrid side hidden. He was human with his crew, hybrid with his family. Angel has done well keeping his secret. Growing as a team and friends.

A tear trickled down Rebecca's face thinking of the kids. Their success at such a young age.

"Maybe it's my motherly instincts but you kids are too much. In the best way possible." She admits, Kenzi could hear her blowing her nose in the phone.

"Mom, stop. If you start crying, we all gonna start cryin." Kenzi's voice becomes high pitch, trying to keep it together.

"I know. It still gets to me, ya know."

Alopex and Dinah heard a good portion of the conversation. Getting teary eyed as well. Charlie grabbed her bass guitar and started strumming, failing to hide her tears.

"Let's not start the water works, Ma. We'll be fine and everything will be prepped." Kenzi reassured her.

"Alright. I'll let you get going to continue training. I love you, sweetheart." Chief says with a shake in her tone.

"I love you, too Ma." Says Kenzi, ending the call. The girls glared at each other. Charlie and Dinah started sniffling.

"I wish you would! Please don't start.......I can't!" Alopex whined, turning away from Charlie's puppy dog eyes.

Charlie started playing a familar tune on her bass prompting Kenzi and Dinah started singing. Forcing Alopex to join in.

As the girls sang to Charlie's bass, the turtles were hidden in one of the tunnels listening to their ensemble. "Chief is worried again, isn't she?" Donnie asked, heart pinging at Kenzi's pitch. "Of course. Their her daughters!" Mikey couldnt help but add,"Not to mention our strict MIL." Raph's shell started to itch, recalling the eerie threat she made on all 4 of them when she found out about the proposal.

"I warn you once and once only." She said, while chopping cucumbers in her kitchen. Of all vegetables to chop while having a discussion regarding her girls dating mutant turtles. "If you love them so much, you will NOT harm them in any way." She calmy says, while aggressively slamming her large blade down on the defenseless veggie. All of them jolted at the image of her chopping something else.

"We would never. We promise!" Donnie whined, raising his hands up.

Automatically, she switched to her casual self,"Good. Welcome to the family." She chimed.

They noticed the girls stopped singing. "Get ready guys. They're coming and coming fast!" Leonardo warned when he realized the change of atmosphere upon the girls using invisibility to throw them off. "Nice. One of my favorite games!" Raph rolled his shoulders, sais in hand. "She'll be comin' fast alright!" Mikey quipped while having his nunchuks at the ready.

"Shut up, Mikey!" Donnie grunted, sickened by his brother's perversions.

"Did he really just say that? That's yo man, Charlie!" Kenzi hissed as she shot an arrow at Raphael. He deflects her attack, the girls shedding their invisibility, and so began their sparring session.

It was a series of flips, dodges, punches, a barrage of arrows and needle blades being used along with shurikens. Switching partners in the mist of it. Raph vs Charlie. Kenzi vs Mikey. Leo vs Alopex. Dinah vs Donnie. The girls will play dirty using their tails during the scuffle. While the turtles find openings to use the girls abilities against them. A lover's training session.

It went on for about an hour before Alopex and Leonardo gave the sign to halt. Dinah scoffed,"Come on sis. 30 more minutes. I'm about to go gangsta on dis bonehead!" Raph tsked at her,"You wish. Ya drink yer milk this mornin?" He snickered, while she relaxed her face and looked over at Leonardo.

"Dinah, Dont!" Leonardo grumbled, not wanting Dinah to tackle him again.

"We should call it's quits, guys. This was too fun!" Mikey suggested releasing his grasp on Kenzi.

"Okay." They all say in unison, bowing to each other. "Very good, all of you." Alopex nodded. "You as well, Noble Leader." Leonardo threw a compliment her way. They all retreated into the girls subway train quarters.

"So, how's the jet coming along, love?" Donnie asked, pulling Kenzi down to sit in his lap. "It's coming. We leave tomorrow evening. You got time to help me finish the rest, baby?" She purred, playing with his bandana tail. "No problem. Only if you help me upgrade some of my devices for our patrols." She wrapped her cheetah tail around his neck,"Deal." They share a kiss.

"Ya'll are too adorable. Please stop. My stable mind can't take it!" Charlie teased, offering waters to the turtles.

"Don't even tease. After the stunt you pulled the other day, ya lucky I'm allowing Mikey in here at all!" Alopex pointing at Charlie and Mikey.

"Join the club, Babe!" Raph grumbled, chuckling as he took a sip, glaring at Leonardo and Dinah.

"Any way. Where are you going tomorrow?" Leo asked, halting the childish back and forth.

"We're headed to Brazil. Ya'll remember Brazil, right?" Dinah asked, swinging her panther tail in excitement.

"Briefly. We had that tussle with RockSteady and Bebop. The first time I ever flew a plane." Donnie grimaced.

"We studied the layout of one of the buildings." Kenzi began to explain pulling up her hologram screen, illustrating the compound with which hostages are being held. "Tight security, enough man power to take on New York Police Department." Dinah explains joins in. "Are you gonna use your nanobots?" Mikey asks.

"No. We do this ourselves. Gotta give the bots a break. Don't wanna rely on them too much. They're for emergency use only." Alopex says.

"How many captives?"

"We estimated a total of 31. That number could change." Alopex rumbled, squeezing her bottle of water.

"What about you guys? Anything new? Any more unnatural disasters happening?" Charlie grumbled.

"Wannabe gang tryin' ta be Purple Dragons and Bebop and RockSteady being a pain in the butt, nothin' new." Raph rolled his eyes, massaging Alopex wolf tail.

"How's Splinter?" Dinah asked.

"He's doing good. Seems like his strength is improving too. He whipped me good yesterday with his tail." Mikey says, while rubbing his head.

They all laughed and continued to converse. Donnie and Kenzi headed out to the Chief's penthouse where the jet was stored on the rooftop.

"Maybe when they're done doing their thing, wanna have dinner at our place?" Leo's voice so gentle yet serious. Dinah looked to Alopex for an approval. "I don't know....." She paced. Charlie warped into her fox form and started whining. Alopex just growled. "She ain't gonna stop til ya say yes!" Raph reminded as Charlie's whining intensified.

'I can barely put up with her when shes screwin' Mikey! Now this!'

She'd finally had enough,"Alright. I'll let Donnie and Kenzi know and we'll come over tonight."

"Yeah. Its a date, ladies!" Mikey goofed, lifting Charlie and Dinah up in his arms, twirling them around.

Raph and Alopex shared a look, he crooked his finger at her. She quirked her brows as she walked over, letting him pull her into his lap to cover her in endless kisses. Mikey put Dinah down to embrace Leo. Nuzzling his snout in her neck, she purred. Charlie and Mikey couldn't stop tickling each other.

After a while, the turtles departed, prepping for patrol and dinner.

Kenzi and Donnie made it to the penthouse in a flash. Getting a lot of work done on the jet, adding a few features to make it run smoother. Kenzi gets a text from Charlie.

Charlie: Hey CatScratch. When you're done 'fixing the jet' come to the lair later for dinner.

She rolled her eyes, then sent her message.

Kenzi: 👍🏾🫡. ALRIGHT. NOW LEAVE US ALONE, BUTTFACE!!!!

Kenzi made a mental note to yank her tail when the opportunity presented itself.

After spending an hour and a half on the aircraft, The 2 geniuses backed up and looked over their work. The jet was ready for take off. "You've improved on your tune-ups. That's great!" Donnie snorts. Kenzi stood before him, reaching up to caress his face,"I have you to thank for that, hubby!" He smiled, leaned down and kissed her. Tongues dancing in the cave of passion as their heads rotated. They became handsy as the smooching got intense. Her wearing a skirt only adding to the heat. He aggressively turned her around, she planted her hands on the edge of the roof, he hoisted up her skirt, admiring her smooth cheeks. His hard-on screaming for her core, he unzipped his pants to release it, she removed her underwear so he didn't destroy her good ones.

He rubbed his tip against her soaked folds.

"Oh Donnie, please!" She purred, wrapping her tail tightly around his leg.

"Anything for you, My Kenzi-Kat!" He moans.

Just as he was about to enter his lover's hole, a sudden flash of light erupted in the sky. Catching them both off guard. It wasn't raining nor were they due for a storm. Then the flash came again, disappearing.

They got dressed and watched the skies for a bit. "How odd." Kenzi broke the silence.

"We should inform the others. Lets go." Donnie suggested.

"Okay. I'm right behind you." She says, following Donnie as they headed back to the sewers.

Hi everyone. For a number of reasons I haven't really been active for a couple of months now; I promise I'm not going anywhere, but sometimes lurking is all I have time or energy for. Comic-ish pubmat

This publication material is one that I've created through Canva, given that Bitstrips is no longer functional and that this was made before classes officially started. I've created this as teaser for the Day of Welcome society booth teaser of The Association of Langauge Erudite (TALE). I take particular pride on this one given the responses I've received, especially that the PPG-style characters in the visual have been digitally drawn by me. Conceptually, the booth was always to follow a Powerpuff Girls x comics vibe, and it became a matter of banking on that idea to visually execute it. In it are essential details for the occasion such as the title, date, and the contact details of the organization. Moreover, the dialogue and story bubbles have been added to benefit the theme.

Together, these elements ensured the impact and maximum engagement of the material upon posting. In terms of the process of conceiving the output, it was a bit of a challenge that a comic template was not available to Free Canva users. I've had to manually manipulate elements such as lines, particularly to achieve the comic panel gaps as seen above. Making sure that the photos and elements overlap (or don't) each other the right way also required meticulous attention to achieve the production of a material that felt modern but stuck with its theme.

So I've been decluttering/cleaning the garage.

This morning, I dreamt that I came across a canister of rice.

For some reason,instead of just throwing it away or putting it in the kitchen, I had to get out a large chessboard and sort the grains of rice into pairs and take photos of myself with them for their (yes, the rice!!!) photo album.

Which is a modern spin on an ancient parable about a sneaky fellow asking to be paid in rice on a chessboard in which the amount of rice doubles each square, but either way, I think my subconscious is making fun of how I tend to Zeno's paradox every task I tackle.

Hey so actually this post motivated me to write 3500 words on success traps, which is setting up systems where success can sneak up on you and trap you in spite of your executive function going on a vacation.

"Put your homework in an orange folder" is an example of something that a neurotypical parent thinks is a success trap that they're setting up for their kid.

The trap that the kid might set up for themself is "take photos of all my homework so that if I lose it I can send it to the teacher or work on it without the original paper version." (In my pre-cellphone education era my success trap might have been "turn in homework before the class ends if the teacher allows it" or "do homework with my friend from class who DOESN'T lose homework every day and ask them if they can bring it to school for me")

Remove Speedbumps

Speedbumps tend to be very individual and contextual, so removing them takes experience. If your child struggles to get homework done because they feel like they need to look up every word they don't know on the assignment sheet, you might want to sit with them and go through the definitions before they start working. But sometimes the speedbump to making madelines is simply the fact that someone has to empty the sink of dishes before cooking can commence, so all you can do is either wash the dishes in the moment or work on building a robust dishwashing system for ensuring there are no plates in the sink.

Increase Focus

Moderate emotions; you'll be more focused when you're less upset or angry or sad - if you need to pay attention to something it might be helpful to bring your mood back to something stable and moderate before you get started. Since ADHD includes emotional dysregulation this may be difficult, but you know the best way to put yourself back on an even keel. If breathing exercises give you panic attacks, don't use them to try to calm down; maybe you'll do better with three sets of pushups or five minutes of a phone game.

Helpful distractions - many people with ADHD find that they work better with background noise or some other kind of external stimulation while doing focused, boring tasks. Listening to music or podcasts, or putting a familiar movie on or turning on a white noise machine can all be helpful distractions that keep the ADHD brain juuuuuust focused enough on something in the periperhy to allow your brain to pay attention to the task that needs to be done (rather the crushing silence of a tense open plan office or the distracting noises the clock and ceiling lights are making.

Increase Efficiency

This one is also highly contextual and highly specific. One example of a success trap that I'm considering making is a single-key keyboard that I can use for "typing" passwords. One of the ones I'm considering purchasing is a mouse with programmable buttons. Getting a mouse to do "Ctrl+C/CTRL+V/CTRL+SHIFT+V" while using excel for web would be a game-changer for me in terms of efficiency. Maybe I'll even get around to it someday. But another example of an efficiency win is just checking my email and messages any time I sit down at my desk. If I haven't stood up in four hours I'm off the hook, but if I stood up to get a refill on my coffee for three minutes, I must check my email when I get back to my desk. That's just how it's done. I don't make the rules. (Not true, I do make the rules but the Alli who makes the rules and the Alli who follows the rules are two different people who just happen to both live in my head.

Get creative when you're thinking about what tools to add to your toolbox. And maybe make one of those tools a literal toolbox. The plastic totes used for cleaning supplies can also be used for gardening tools, pet care, car parts, and barbecues. Make use of them because they might save you a ton of work and there's no reason not to.

The website is free; the reason I started using it for writing up stuff like this more than I use tumblr for writing up stuff like this is that tumblr is too hard to search and "wiki is easy to format and easy to write" is a success trap for me.

When I was a kid I kept failing classes because I'd lose my homework. I'd finish it, but between the dining room table and the classroom it would just walk away. Sometimes it ended up in my backpack, sometimes it didn't; sometimes I finished the homework at school and it got home in my backpack but wasn't there the next day.

To attempt to address this, my parents got me a neon orange folder to put in my backpack; it was my homework folder, all homework was to go into that folder and that folder only, and it was to only come out of that folder when it was being worked on. I was to put homework in the homework folder as soon as it was assigned and if I'd worked on it, put it back in the folder as soon as it was finished. The logic here was that using the folder was supposed to be automatic, and you wanted a bright color so it wouldn't get lost in the depths of a backpack.

I think I lost about eight of those before my parents stopped buying orange folders.

So it was very frustrating to search "how to be organized at work as an adult with ADHD" only to get a list that said "set alarms and write things down and try to make friends with a more organized person" which was immediately followed by tips to help your ADHD child stay organized and the one right at the top was to put their homework in a bright folder so they couldn't lose it.

Early Development of Epic Universe and HTTYD Rumors

although Universal hadn’t announced anything at the time, it was clear that they were building a new theme park when land was purchased and in the process of being developed.

speculation began as to what IPs would be featured in the park. rumors of a How to Train Your Dragon land started as early as 2018. Universal had recently acquired Dreamworks Animation and The Hidden World was set to release in 2019, so a HTTYD land made perfect sense.

after the official announcement of Epic Universe in August of 2019 alongside the release of concept art, it was all but confirmed that HTTYD would have a major presence in the park.

fast forward to 2023 when Bioreconstruct on twitter shared photos of the construction progress. here we can really start to see physical confirmation of a HTTYD land!

Dragon Racer’s Rally is a set of flat rides similar to the TMNT Shell Shock ride at Mall of America. i remember seeing Bio’s post and being super excited to see an adorable little nadder (who i believe is implied to be Stormfly) on top of this ride! a monstrous nightmare (Hookfang?) was added to the adjacent arm two days later.

this was the first appearance of dragons in the park and i remember thinking about the storyline attached to Isle of Berk. nothing had been confirmed as of yet and i wondered if maybe the in-universe story was taking place after THW when “real” dragons were gone. very glad to say this was not the case! the land is stated to take place between the second film and THW (we’ll ignore the nightlights lol).

some patents for technology planned at the park were being circulated around this time. the one that really stuck out to me was a patent for drone technology.

there had been rumors of drone technology being used to have dragons flying on the land. this patent seemed to confirm that rumor. things were starting to get really exciting! nothing like this has been done in a theme park (aside from that one disney press event).

although most of the park has been functional during media and TM previews these past couple months, the dragon drones have not been implemented. i’ve heard they’re being saved for opening day, which makes sense. i’m very excited to see them in action once the park officially opens. we’ve seen the monstrous nightmare in testing from a distance and up close, however we are yet to see the gronckle, which was the other confirmed species to fly over the park (in this blog post). given the extremely different bodies of these two dragons, i’m very intrigued to see how the gronckle drone will be executed.
