What if the Tunisian Diamond, Romanian Ruby and Norwegian Emerald were actually some ancient artifacts of long ago of some kind that were imbued with some kind of magic?

Or they were actually cursed objects and just touching them bare handed causes some sort of magical or chaotic side effect to the said person?
