Buttons (OriXdwarf!reader)
A/N: For the lovely anon that suggested/requested, “Love me”. This a bit steamier than my other fics so just a warning. Also this can be read as an earlier event that happens between the reader and Ori before the events in “Why Are You Here?”, but it can also be read as a standalone fic.
Warnings: 2nd hand embarrassment, slightly nsfw, and awkward nerds in awkward situations.
*******
Night had fallen as you and Ori sat on a small red couch in the back of the library you worked in.
"This is for you, Y/N" Ori said, as he held out a cloth wrapped package. You accepted it with an amused albeit confused smile and asked, "What's the occasion?"
He blushed and shook his head, "No occasion, I just thought you might like it. I noticed your old one was almost full." You slipped off the soft lavender cloth and gasped lightly. Inside was a beautiful leather bound journal embellished with an intricate pattern encircling a dwarvish script you weren't familiar with on the front.
"It's beautiful, I love it!", you exclaimed, "Thank you Ori." Setting the book on your lap, you wrapped him a tight hug. He laughed softly, visibly relaxing at your approval of the gift. After you released him from your embrace, you turned your attention back to the gift. You found yourself tracing the gold leafing embossed on the front and asked, "Wherever did you get it?" Ori blushed and picked at his sweater as he answered, "Actually I made it, well I had a bit of help from the toy maker down the street, but I designed the cover personally." You gasped and a knowing smile found its way to your lips, "Is that what you've been drawing during our lessons?" Ori nodded sheepishly.
"Then I love it all the more," you smiled before nudging him gently with your shoulder, "But I have to ask, what's the writing on the cover say? I'm afraid I don't recognize the dialect."
"I know, that's why I chose it. Not many people here do," he said as pleased smile danced on his lips before he added, "It's a secret."
"A secret? Won't you tell me what it says?" You asked, scooching closer to him, your knee brushing against his. Ori glanced down at your touching legs, but still shook his head, "Not yet, it's a surprise for later."
You pouted, taking his hand in yours, "why not? What's the surprise?" Ori shook his head again, "I know what you're doing, Y/N, it's not going to work this time." You lowered your chin and looked up at him through your lashes still pouting, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"You're trying to rile me up so I'll tell you what it says!" He said accusingly, "But let me be the one to tell you, it's not going to work this time."
You pretended to gasp in offense but still end up smirking, "I'd never. When have I ever tricked you like that?"
Ori snorted, "Which time?" He laughed as he remembered one moment in particular, "Do you not remember the time you convinced me to help you find that hair bead you lost, forgetting to mention that you lost it in the river. We ended up missing the entire lesson planned for that afternoon."
You smiled at the memory, but added, "As I recall, the only reason we missed the lesson was because you decided to knock me over. I had to get even."
"I tripped and you know it." He argued.
You giggled, "Maybe, but you were still a bit too dry. I was helping."
"You tackled me and I nearly lost a boot!" He exclaimed, wiggling his foot for emphasis, "Its a wonder nobody saw it happen."
You laughed and a mischievous smile spread across your face, "What? You mean like this?" That was the only warning you gave before attacking.
"Y/N!" Ori exclaimed as you pushed him over and leapt on top of him. With a triumphant laugh, you began tickling him mercilessly. Ori laughed and squirmed about beneath you, half heartedly trying to stop you as he pleaded, "Stop! What if somebody sees?"
"Who cares if somebody sees?" You laughed and kept tickling. Ori covered his face with one of his arms and said, "They might get the wrong idea."
You stopped tickling him but didn't move to get off his legs, "What do you mean?" Ori cleared his throat and gestured to the heavy skirt of your dress. The navy blue skirt had billowed out when you jumped on top of him, hiking up in the front and exposing your bare legs as you straddled him. Embarrassed, you quickly pulled down your skirt, accidently covering one of Ori's hands with it in the process. He squeezed your thighs gently and laughed, "I still think this paints a picture similar to before." You gasped at Ori's forwardness. He froze, realizing what he had just done. Then a split second later, he realized his hand was still on your thigh and ripped it away as if he'd burned himself. He sat up abruptly as he said, "Oh Mahal, i'm so sor-" his words cut short when his head bumped into your chest. The top button of your dress came undone. He tried to pull back, mortified, only to find that his beard had gotten snagged on one of your buttons, "Y/N, I'm stuck." He said as he tried to quickly free his beard, but only managed to undo the button above his beard and expose a part of your corset.
"I'm so sorry Y/N!" He sputtered, "I swear to Mahal that it was an accident." You were frozen in place, unsure of how to respond, your face is almost as red as Ori's. Flustered, he fumbled as he attempted to redo the buttons while still trying to free himself. "I don't think I can get my beard out myself. I-I can't see anything at this angle." He stammered, eyes wide as he looked up at your face.
Trying to appear calmer than you felt, you laughed and gently covered his hands with your own, stilling his panicked movements. Your face heated as you said, "Don't worry, let me see if I can't free your beard." A few moments of struggling passed before you sighed in defeat, "I'm sorry Ori, I can't really see the button you're caught on from this angle either." Ori went as still as a board, "What do you think we should do then, Y/N?" He asked as he tried and failed to not stare your chest.
"Umm, to be honest I'm not sure." You admitted, running a hand through your hair, "Do you think we should try and get up and go get help?"
"No!" Ori sputtered, "We can't, what would people think? It would ruin your reputation." Your mouth thinned because you knew he was right.
"What do you suppose we do then?" You asked, nervously readjusting your position atop him. Ori sucked in a breath and grabbed at the sides of the couch as you felt his body flinch slightly, the movement causing him to thrust shallowly against you. Your breath hitched but you quickly recovered and clutched at the front of his tunic to keep him from jerking back again and hurting himself. Eyes wide, he said in a mortified tone, "I swear that wasn't on purpose, Y/N."
"I know." You reassured him quickly. Despite understanding that it was an accident, the fact that you were wearing only a thin pair of short summer pantaloons left you feeling utterly exposed. A hollow ache bloomed inside you making you shift again and your thighs instinctively squeezed around him. Ori gripped your thighs tightly, pinning you firmly against his hips as a shudder coursed through him. "For my own sanity, please stop doing that." He gasped, his voice gone thick. Your lips parted in surprise at the unexpected sensation of him growing hard. Your legs trembled almost imperceptibly as you were struck by the sudden urge to rock your hips forward.
"Mahal," Ori said breathlessly, "I think my heart is going to beat out of my chest. —Y/N, this is so untoward. You feel so..." His words trailed off as a tremor coursed through him after your hips rocked against his hardening length at their own accord.
"Oh Mahal," you said with a hand clapped over your mouth, "I am so sorry, Ori. I'm not sure what came over me just now. I shouldn't have—" your words died on your lips as you felt Ori's hand slide further up your skirt. His large hand settled on the dip of your hip and you swear you heard him whimper.
Ori's head fell forward and he pressed his forehead against the boning of your corset. "Tell me this is another dream." Ori begged, his voice barely even a whisper.
"What..." you said breathlessly, frozen in place.
"Tell me this is just another dream." He repeated his voice more desperate. His hips jerked in another shuddering thrust and you felt his thick callused fingers grip your hip tighter.
Biting your bottom lip you asked, "Will you keep going if I tell you it is?"
Ori's eyes darted up to look at your face and he swallowed hard, "Wait... so you..." You nodded, and fought the urge to rock against him.
His mouth fell open in disbelief and you felt him grow even harder.
"We can't, it wouldn't be proper." Ori said, but it sounded as if he was trying to convince himself, "We haven't even—"
"We won't do anything." You promised quickly before reluctantly raising your hips until you hovered just over him, "We haven't done anything yet. Lets just —lets focus on the problem at hand, okay?"
"Right. Okay," he said tightly as he hesitantly removed his hand from your hip, "Is there any way we can take that off?" he asked before hurriedly adding, "—The button I mean! I'll sew it back on for you of course."
You tried to compress your chest far enough to get a better look at the button, determined to ignore the residual heat of Ori's hand that burned like a brand upon your still overly sensitive skin. The button in question was right below your bustline. The idea that popped into your head caused the heat to pool low in your stomach again.
"That won't work, we might ruin your beard in the process and I don't want to risk it so..." you hesitated and felt your blush burn all the way down your neck at the idea that came to mind.
Was this a good idea? You weren't sure. No one else was suppose to enter to the library for the rest of the night, but what if someone saw you after the fact? You had your cloak and you could use it to cover it up. Flustered, you sighed decisively, "I guess there's nothing else to be done then. Can you reach my bag from off the floor?" Ori's grip on your thigh tightened briefly as he clumsily leaned over and grabbed your small purse off the floor.
"What are you planning, Y/N?" Ori asked as he watched you search through your bag.
"...I can trust you, can't I?" You asked hesitantly, hoping he wouldn't take offense.
"Always." He said without hesitation.
"Okay," you said as you forced your breathing to remain steady, "I guess there's no point in stalling then."
"Stalling?" Ori asked, brows furrowing.
"I really am gonna miss this dress." You muttered to yourself as you pulled out a small silver letter opener. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "What are you going to do with that?"
You grimaced slightly as you turned the letter opener towards your dress and began to carefully cut the fabric down the middle. "Well close your eyes!" You ordered when you realized Ori was still staring at you, his eyes wide with shock. He snapped his eyes shut. You cut the dress down the middle until you were able to slip off the bodice so that the ripped fabric hung loosely from your hips. Returning the blade to your bag, you set to work gently unknotting the now visible button.
The whole ordeal seemed to take hours to you, despite only lasting a couple of minutes. A breathless laugh escaped you when it finally came loose and you dropped the offending button into your bag. Ori fell backwards onto the couch with a soft 'oof' and stared at the ceiling above you. "Y/N, I'm sorry about your dress. Do you think there's any hope of fixing it?" He asked. You shook your head, "No, I don't think I'll be able to wear it again, but I should be able to use some of the fabric to make a dress for my little niece."
Feeling oddly reluctant, you moved to finally climb off of him and the remains of the dress slipped free from your hips leaving you in nothing but your corset and pantaloons. You had been in a rush this morning and didn't have time to put on all the petticoats. You gasped and scrambled to cover yourself, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for you to see me like this!"
Ori's blush deepened impossibly further and he quickly turned away on the couch, "It's alright, I didn't see anything." Flustered, he pulled on the sleeves of his sweater like he did while he was thinking, before he quickly pulled it off. It was quickly followed by his gray tunic, which he offered to you without turning around, "Here put this on." Gratefully, you took the tunic and pulled it on. It was baggy and stopped halfway down your thighs. "Thank you Ori." You said, distracted. You didn't realize you were staring until he pulled his sweater back over his freckled back, "For everything."
"Is it alright if I turn around now?" He asked quietly.
Self consciously, you played with the hem of his tunic as you answered, "Yes, I have the tunic on now." As he turned, you notice his eyes flick down to hem of the borrowed shirt and him swallow hard.
"You don't have to thank me Y/N, the button was my fault. It was only right that I lend you my shirt," he replied shaking his head, "I should also walk you home to make sure you get there safely. —Where's your cloak?" He asked getting up stiffly. He spotted it draped across the back of the couch and picked it up. Walking over to you quickly, he gently draped it over your shoulders. You smiled, and with a small 'Thank you', you gathered up the rest of your things.
After locking up the library, the two of you quietly made your way through the empty streets in a relatively comfortable silence.
Upon coming to your doorstep, you fumbled around in your purse looking for your keys. Ori picked at the sleeves of his coat, not comfortable with leaving you until he knew you could get inside safely.
"You know I don't regret my time spent with you Y/N, right?" You heard Ori ask hesitantly. Caught off guard by his words, you lowered your purse, keys forgotten. "What? Of course I do, Ori." You said, brows knitted.
"I know it seems like I get fed up with your antics sometimes, but I just want you to know I wouldn't rather have those memories any other way." You pulled him into a tight hug, not caring about your current attire and said with a relieved sigh, "Neither would I." You gently pressed your forehead to his and whispered, "But it's late now, and we should both get some rest before it grows too late," You reluctantly pulled away and unlocked your door, "And don't worry, we have the whole of tomorrow to get up to no good." Ori blushed deeply but smiled with a small nod. He began to walk down your steps, but stopped to call back to you, "Sweet dreams, Y/N. I'll see you in the morning."
"Good Night Ori, and thank you again for the gift."
You sighed happily once the door was shut behind you. Hugging the journal to your chest, you down at your borrowed attire and grinned at the promise of tomorrow.
