!! CHAPTER 7 / DIASOMNIA ARC SPOILERS !!
Hi I just got home, so let's get to it (Part 1):
Picking up where we left off, where the main gang meet up with Idia. Sebek thought that all of them were awake in the real world but Idia was like "nah we're still stuck in the dream world"
I completely forgot that Idia barely touches grass (joke) in the main story so he introduces himself to the Silver and Sebek and when Sebek introduces himself Idia got scared cuz of how loud he was 😭
Since Idia's awake, Silver immediately goes on defense thinking that the darkness or even Malleus will attack. But then, Ortho comes on screen (like literally he appears on a monitor) telling the gang that they don't have to worry about that for a while.
Edit: There's this one part I legit forgot to add which I will now cuz it's funny where Silver and Sebek were just sandwiching Idia and Idia's says something along the lines of getting hurt from being squeezed between armor (Sebek) and HARD MUSCLES (Silver) LIKE WE GET IT IDIA WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE
Ortho then explains to the rest about how he managed to escape the dream world and transfer his consciousness to STYX. Although he's not able to conjur Unique Magic because he's not a mage, but rather a humanoid robot, he still has his unique perks (aw that's cute)
Flashback Time: So we have Cerberus Ortho investigating the current situation of Sage Island, trying to prevent the thorns from spreading as well as break through the shield, which is apparently much harder than the open gates of the Underworld. But don't worry guys the Shroud Parents are also there to help him out.
Ortho was given a 20 minute time limit to analyze Malleus's magic, because once those 20 minutes are up he shuts down, which was difficult. UNTIL THE MAN OF THE HOUR MALLEUS APPEARS, who's surprised that Ortho was awake. But Ortho tells Malleus that he simply switched bodies cuz he's an AI, which is something Malleus probably doesn't understand (damn AHAHAHAHAHA)
Knowing that he needed to buy some for the machinery thingies (idk what they're called don't even ask) to collect the needed data, Ortho challenges Malleus. Malleus admires the fact Ortho can keep his sanity for so long, thinking that it's the pinnacle of technology. It was a crazy battle, with Ortho losing one of his dogs
OH MALLEUS I LOVE YOU BUT YOU BITCHHHH (mostly the latter btw)

Ortho's running out of time, with only 30 seconds left and Malleus is about is to put him to sleep. he says he's sorry to his parents NOOOO
BUT SOMETHING HAPPENS, the attack stops; STYX came in just in time to intervene. The Shroud parents uses their drones to attack Malleus's shield and Ortho uses a full blast to get him out of Sage Island and land himself back to STYX and we get this moment of the Shrouds (minus Idia) collapsing into each other's arms.
MALLEUS NO

Ortho regains consciousness after awhile and tells his parents that he's guilty the the two robot dogs were destroyed (oh yeah forgot to mention the other one was destroyed too whoopsie), but Mama Shroud said that they can just repair them and we just have this heartfelt moment in the family.
That is, until Papa Shroud brings up that the magic used by Malleus reminds him of the ancient magic surrounding Grim. Another thing is that it's downright impossible to destroy Malleus's realm from the outside UNLESS Malleus himself disappears. They can't destroy the realm by force either because it will also permamnently lock all victims inside of it. The only thing they can do is to be as persuasive as possible to let Malleus let go of everyone (but trust me when I say I don't think that will work)
So they bring up Maleficia as someone who can persuade Malleus, but Mama Shroud has something else in mind and shows Ortho a live from Idia's dream, which is when he notices something was off. It's possible that she found a way to access everyone's dreams (and let's just say Idia is just like his mum). That;s when Ortho realizes what his mom meant, and that is to find a way to get everyone to wake up and find a way to disrupt the dream world.
Okay Ima end the first part here for now, sorry this took awhile guys I had lots of things to do the moment I got home 😭. But I promise to get things out as quick as I can (I still have a reflection paper to speedrun lmao)
Next: Part 2
#rany talks about twst#twisted wonderland#twst#twst jp#twst spoilers#diasomnia#MALLEUS YOU BITCHHHH#as much as i love him i don't accept what he did to Ortho

The mystery of the Ortho smut fic: the plot thickens
Since we’ve gotten a couple of asks about this topic, I’ll put all of them in one post.
It’s related to these two asks, by the way. I hope all the mentioned Anons find each other… Although I’m not sure if it’s possible + I’m now confused about just how many Anons we have in this particular conversation lol but hey, at least all of you are here!
Anonymous asked:
To answer the Ortho smut fic anon unfortunately no it wasn't your fic but from what I saw it was typed on discord and not ao3 so thankfully (?) it also wasn't your fic
But now I want to read an Ortho smut fic 😔
Just posting this one :)
Anonymous asked:
the anon who wrote ortho x reader smut and, yes, there is a huge lack of actual ortho x reader orz i feed from the four pixiv artists who draw yuu x ortho together with an app that translates pictures and shroudcest because Ortho looks so yummy. half of what you find in ortho x reader is him being a matchmaker for Idia, and i don't dislike Idia but oh god the flanderization. let the boy kiss his brother or kiss both his brother and me, fandom ;w; didn't he become his own person in book 6
btw all my ortho x reader is written with sharing Ortho with Idia in mind. i just can't believe in a world where Idia didn't touch the shota robot if not his flesh brother.
It really is sad that Ortho’s entire role just ends up being “someone who is a support team on the background”. Just like you said, he is his own person, and even if we don’t go to the smut territory, it’s interesting how no one seems to be interested in playing around with how he could act in a romantic setting.
(yaaay, Shroudcest found its way into the yuuships lol; I also feel like I know at least one pixiv artist that you’re talking about)
Anonymous asked:
In response to previous anon’s mention of Ortho x reader smut, I’m in the middle of Ao3’s first every Ortho x Vil fic (yeah you guessed it, it’s the OruVil/VilOrtho shipper 🤖👑).
If you want a link (as it’s a bit of a monster fic) I’ll gladly share with you and all the Ortho fans out there.
Time to combine our fangirling/fanboying and give him much deserved love!!
Yaaay, OruVil shipper Anon, hi! Please keep doing what you’re doing, this ship needs to exist on Ao3, it just has to. I’m not sure how we’ll handle this entire conversation from now on, it’s a bit chaotic, but you can still share your fic!
Anonymous asked:
I'm so disappointed I went looking through the Ortho x reader tag out of curiosity and it's all platonic
You’re in good company, Anon. I hope the situation changes soon lol

Random “what if MC” scenarios bc my mind can’t stop coming up with them
MC’s gender isn’t mentioned, sometimes I switch between referring to the reader as MC and “you” and I’m too lazy to proofread and change it so it’s consistent soooooo
this is mostly platonic but go ahead and imagine what you want I ain’t judging ;) unless it’s Ortho don’t be weird >:(
Btw if you want to expand on any of these yourself please do it. Just tell me so I can read it I desperately need content for some of these lmao
What if MC was their voice actor?
So there’s some scenarios/fanfics with MC coming from a world where TWST is a game; but no one considers what if MC was their voice actor. I just think it’d be the funniest thing ever if MC popped in with the exact tone of voice of Leona or Malleus.
Imagine the pranks and imitations too. Like Ruggie is laughing his ass off at you making fun of Leona while Leona is just 🤨 tf are you doing
Or you go viral for your perfect Vil impression and Cater is just riding on your fame for “discovering you” he’s very grateful
I’d also imagine some bamboozling, tomfoolery if you will, if you were Trey or Riddle’s va. Like lmao put Riddle in an early grave while you pretend to be Trey please it’s so fucking funny
The chaos tho with Floyd if you were his va- or even better- Azul’s. Endless torture for the octopus boi. Same with Jamil and Kalim. Kalim is having the time of his life while Jamil is about to commit murder.
What if MC didn’t understand their language
So I just think it’d be interesting if MC didn’t speak the same language as NRC. Like Crowley is trying to explain everything and MC is just 🧍♂️
Everyone is trying their best to understand you and you’re taking lessons with Trein so at least you could speak basic phrases and read. You’re trying you’re best here.
And as you get closer to everyone I’d imagine people like Azul, Jade and Rook would be interested in learning your language out of curiosity. Does everyone in your world speak this language? How do you say ____? Any phrases that can’t be translated?
I’d also imagine Ortho to be eager to learn everything about you too! Being a highly advanced robot he’s sure to pick up your language easily. Its comforting to be able to talk to someone in your native language.
Ace would 100% ask how to say fuck
What if MC was a warrior?
I’ve seen a couple of these but I’m adding this anyway bc I love it.
Imagine a strong MC, covered in scars, hardened from battle, and can’t for the life of them pass a test in Crewel’s class. Forget about Trein’s too, MC just about gave up. (At least Vargas loves u)
Deuce thought you used to be a delinquent like him once he saw your scars; but left in awe at your stories. Also: workout sessions with Jack and Epel anyone? Epel is eager to learn from you.
Training with Sebek and Silver occasionally too. Even though Sebek initially doubted you he admires tolerates your human presence.
Treat Vil like your Queen and he’ll swoon hard
Idia will pass out btw if you ever pick him up when he asks if you saved any princesses like in his games/anime
What if MC was a famous singer?
Yeah yeah another somewhat common one stfu
I can imagine MC being almost excited when they realize they can relive the experience from starting out a newbie. Like you already know all your songs, the tips and tricks to preforming, and what a crowd loves.
When a mysterious singer pops out of nowhere and immediately becomes a hit you know Vil and Neige are already on the move investigating. Who’s the new competition taking over Magicam by the storm?
Ace and Dunce probably caught you playing (you bribed Grim with tuna to stay quiet earlier) and exposed you later on accident.
Depending on the music you preform you probably have some fans in the school. Maybe you’ll preform live for the first time at VDC in the hopes of securing a future career if you can’t get home (or if you don’t want to)
Imagine catching Jack or riddle listening to your music tho and being a hardcore fan
What if MC was a painter?
A lot of hard feelings came from being ripped from your world and being placed into a new one… and what better way to express that than painting?
Whether it be portraits or landscapes, when you found free/cheap supplies at Sam’s and the dorm Ramshackle became covered with your paintings. And once you got around to selling them you found you didn’t have to worry so much about food expenses.
Imagine painting Malleus though, like hello beautiful mysterious fae man that appears in the night and you’re not immediately picking up a brush to paint him???
Lilia is gushing, Malleus is blushing, and Sebek is rushing to either praise you or end you for painting his beloved crown prince of Briar Valley, his excellency, the magnificent and powerful-
Btw Azul is trying to put you in a sketchy work contract to paint in the lounge for some publicity be careful lmao

Why Idia Shroud’s Overblot Was the Most Justified (and Effective) ((in My Personal Opinion)) - An Infodump
<i emerge from my hole in the ground, holding anime boy versions of disney villains hades> i come bearing a little guy. anyways yeah you read the title im switching on Serious Mode, enjoy proper grammar **TRIGGER WARNING FOR DISCUSSION OF DEATH AND SEWER SLIDE** BEYOND THIS POINT IS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DISNEY TWISTED WONDERLAND! LIKE ALL BOOKS! btw i am NOT explaining blot or overblot nor how it works because i am lazy. [begin infodump] As we know, within TWST one character in each book does an oops and overblots, and we get to see this buildup occur and exactly HOW they overblot. Riddle’s overblot is caused by frustration regarding his students refusing to listen to him and follow the rules, furthered by his strict upbringing and mindset that rules are always correct. Leona’s overblot is caused by always being second place, and nothing he does ever mattering because he would never succeed, furthered by the fact that his brother was always favored just because he was born first, and Leona would never be king. Azul’s overblot is caused by his facade breaking, and him feeling as if he had returned to the powerlessness he felt as a child. Jamil’s overblot was caused by resentment, hating the person he was forced to serve, and wanting nothing more than to be his own person, seperate from Kalim. Vil overblotted because he was so jealous of Neige LeBlanche’s beauty and how he always received more heroic roles, and eventually his envy consumed him after a failed attempt to poison Neige. Of course, all of the OB victims had their own stories, their own reasons for overblotting. But at the end of the day, most of their issues could be fixed with a conversation. If they had opened up and not bottled their emotions, if they had rested a little bit, all would be alright. And I say most because Jamil’s doesn’t follow these, and I feel his is the second most justified. But there’s one person I’ve failed to mention, aside from Malleus whose book isn’t out yet. Idia Shroud. How did he overblot? Idia’s overblot should not have even been possible. His family is cursed to burn blot as fast as they can generate it, resulting in them never being able to overblot. This kept them to the underground, forced to watch over the phantoms who have consumed overblotted mages. Where they were surrounded by blot, to prevent the curse from eating away at their magic. It leaves you perplexed, to say the least. How did he even end up in such a situation? Well, we see it after his overblot has subsided, in the flashback sequence. When he was young, Ortho was alive. Real, his actual little brother and not a robot. Ortho innocently suggested going on an adventure like heroes do before Idia grew up and inherited his parents’ lab. They wandered through S.T.Y.X., and Idia hacked into its security system in order to gain access to a vehicle. It was just an innocent adventure. If only Idia knew which security system was which, then Tartarus wouldn’t have opened. If only Idia was a little stronger, he could’ve protected his brother, he could’ve prevented his death. If only he didn’t admire heroes so much, then Ortho would still be here. If only it were Idia and not Ortho. Then, Idia got an idea. If he couldn’t have Ortho back, he’d just remake him. And so he did, creating the Ortho we know today. It was a way to fill the hole his brother, his only friend, had left. A way to cope. People shunned him for recreating his brother as a robot, calling it taboo. But now, Ortho was stronger than those phantoms, with or without a soul. He wouldn’t be destroyed so easily. Idia has dealt with a huge loss in his life, one that he witnessed, his brother being killed and dragged to the underworld with the other phantoms. It wasn’t something that he could deal with at such a young age, and I can assume his parents didn’t take it well either. So, he jumped into escapism to help cope. He recreated his brother, he locked himself in his room and ignored the world, he turned to video games and the internet and technology. So, he never fully grieved. And when the overblot victims (or problematic children) were taken to S.T.Y.X. to study as they eventually would be, considering the concerning amount of overblots in one place, something-- or someone-- hacked into the lab’s technology. Only the Shrouds could get into them, and Idia and his parents couldn’t have been doing it. The only answer was Ortho. Idia rushed down to the bottom of Tartarus, where the gate to the underworld was, and opened the gate. He jumped in, risking his life for the opportunity to see his brother just one more time. He knew what would happen. Eight years in the underworld turned his brother into a phantom, much bigger than any other. As soon as he came in contact with Ortho, he would overblot. He knew this, and he didn’t care. He let it happen. And that is how he overblotted. Idia’s overblot was a s-icide mission. He knew jumping into the underworld was an act that would likely kill him, but he was blinded by a grief that had lasted eight long years, and he didn’t quite care. Through his entire overblot, he seems weirdly excited. Happy. As if the overblot was exhilarating, as if it brought him a thrill he had longed for. But above all, he wanted to be with his brother, and he wanted to leave this rotten world that had brought him nothing but pain. And the only thing that could change his mind, that could make him believe he had a reason to stay, a purpose in this world, was Ortho himself. After the overblot victims, Rook, Epel, and Yuu killed Phantom Ortho, ending Idia’s overblot and sending him and Grim falling into the underworld, we see a conversation between Idia and Ortho. This conversation is really where we get the concept of the entire book set in stone, where it’s finalized that Idia overblotted on purpose out of grief, and Ortho tells him that he need not wish for death or continue grieving. That he can continue his life, that he needs to keep fighting even if it may be tiring. And then he’s gone. His overblot was a horrible, terrifying mix of grief and love for his little brother. It wasn’t something he could shake off or just talk about. Book 6 is one of the most emotional books out of the entire game due to its nature. Grief is something everyone experiences at some point in their lives, and so it is easily to relate to Idia’s thought process and understand why he is the way he is and why he does the things he did in book 6. Not to mention, Yana Toboso’s writing of his and Ortho’s characters are wonderfully done and the amount of emotion captured in Idia and Ortho’s voices through all stages of this book add to it so, so much. [end infodump]

Here's my theory for twst chapter 6. In all past chapters, it's the trouble that found MC first, because of something those with blot were doing already. In this chapter, Yuu's friends are going to Idia first. Maybe Yuu is in critical condition and they need Idia connection with underworld for help. Or maybe Idia's talent with technology. The VDC stage probably have security cameras, so they are probably investigating what happened.
SPOILER ALERT (!)
In the last part of the chapter we can see that conversation between Savannaclaw's students Jack, Ruggie and the perceptive Leona. He noticed the amount of powerful magic in the environment (btw, no-one else noticed that) and also mentioned about the missing file in the backup support system, maybe he's going to investigate further in the matter, maybe Idia has an answer, after all they mention Ignihyde in the conversation.
Second, I have lots of theories about Ignihyde. I aguee with you, they'll need Idia's help and that will be a pain in the ass because Idia is not the "kind" type as we saw in the previous events.
My personal opinion/theories:
Grim is related to the underworld/ olimpians. His flames are like Idia's, also the colors are similar to Ignihyde's. Idia can help Yuu to find/cure Grim.
Ortho is a robot and Idia gave him life and magic by using his skills in technology. Maybe Idia will do the same to Yuu, nor turning them into a robot but what about provide them with artificial magic?
Yuu is going to tell the truth, if not to 1st years, I hope to the dorm leaders. More now that they had the vision about the tragic future and a picture of Mickey (evidence baby)
I still believe that Grim's true form is not that little kitty cat, he's more like Kerberos from Card Captor Sakura. Plus Grim has sort of a similarity with Cerberus (the dog from the underworld)
Stupid theories
Malleus is gonna panic if Yuu is in critical state (which is possible, yeees, angst)
Leona will be more involved. Originally his plot was between Ignihyde and Diasomnia's plot, he's the second in terms of power, of course Malleus wins... So this makes him valuable.
There's this another theory (From mia-pon289) about Savannaclaw's arc, it's says the arc is not finished. And the other one about the loops.
However this is super exciting, I can't waaaait.

Idia and Ortho Shroud : the re-birth theory

So , @fluiditism asked about that part of my "twisted wonderland theories (part 3)" in which I mentioned my old theory with Ortho and & Idia . That piece was probably one of my very first theories to write and so...I doubt that many got to read that one so I decided to re write it and post it one more time (this theory was actually written as a reblog btw)
It's been theorised on tumblr that Idia doesn't have a magic pen because he might've used it to bring Ortho back to life :
first of all , a note to this theory :
1)I kinda believe that Idia's strange robot is playing the role of the magic stone for him
2)Wr haven't ever seen any ignihyde students except Idia and Ortho , who don't even use a magic pen . So we don't really know anything about ignihyde's magic stone and it might even be that all students use them as robots , tablets , etc
I agree with the part that he's brought Ortho back , but not quite with the stone thing
Anyways :
Here are a couple of other things to mention :
First : the opening :

At this scene we can see idia busy with programming sth pretty complicated and managing to optimize enormous datas

And then , when ortho appears on the top of the screen , he rises his head and looks at him with an expression of, well , worry . As if he was actually programming ortho who might have died some time ago
Also let not forget ortho's conversations that are almost all related to idia . He always talks about how nice his brother is and is almost always trying to find a way to help him out either with making him leave his room or finding him a real , non virtual friend

At his countdown poster he mentioned : "Are you a living person? Then you should be friends with my big brother. " as if he is someone who doesn't clearly recognize the difference between the dead and alive. Basically because he isn't totally alive himself...
And finally , idia himself :

He looks so damn messed up and broken in both the opening and count down poster :
And, he also mentioned that " It seems like you've been abandoned by goddess of fate ." It's absolutely his Idea toward himself and the ' misfortune ' toward his family . Seems like whatever this curse is , it's really getting to him and messing him up . As the result : He doesn't even dare leaving his room and has turned to a perfect example of : "You can be whoever you want through the social media , no one can see your ugliness , your sadness , your disgusting self ..."
Well anyway , he surely is an interestingly mysterious character Cannot wait to see what comes next with him
Btw , did anybody else recognized that he hasn't appeared at all in the main storyline since the beginning of the game...? *Expect his conversation through that tablet LMAO*
(note : This last paragraph was written 6 weeks ago and yet nothing has changed...shame on you twst)

While the theory might sound enticing, I actually think that Savanaclaw being the 6th dorm, and ultimately the next one to confront Diasomnia, would not be the best choice of story telling. Having Ignihyde take that spot would be compelling for the story I think.
spoilers btw.
If we consider what was a main topic mentioned in Ignihyde's arc, death was one of them. Namely, death and grief, with Idia and Ortho's back story.
Idia had unfortunately already experienced what is one of the most dreadful events, the loss of a loved one, and that was prominent in his character arc during this episode, manifested in how he shut himself in, and invented a 'new' Ortho after losing the real one.
with this in mind, having him, someone who understands the repercussions of a loved one's death, be the one to presumably face Malleus, who is ABOUT to lose loved ones, whether through death or time moving forward, couldn't be more perfect.
Idia had to face the difficulty of time mercilessly moving forward while he is stuck in the past, through creating a robot version of his late brother. While he might not be as charismatic as other characters, he could do a solid on Malleus, much like he did for Rollo in the Glorious Masquerade event.
I think this could be an interesting dynamic for the two characters. who knows lol.
I forgot where I read it but there was a tweet circulating back then that originally Savannaclaw was meant to be the 6th dorm to be introduced, making Octavinelle the 2nd. This would explain why Azul and Riddle was shown more prominently in the prologue, and Diasomnia's introduction in episode 2. The plan was to involve a conflict between two princes in episode 7.
>.> Which would kinda explain why episode 2 feels very rushed?? Idek But, I do wonder what would've been the change had Savannaclaw's episode became 6 🤔
I believe you’re referring to popular fan speculation (based on the order the dorms were revealed back in 2019). As far as I know, none of those plans were actually confirmed in official TWST materials.
For those who may not be aware, TWST had a whole marketing campaign the year before the (JP) game launched. Part of this involved introducing the public to the dorms one by one on the socials/the official TWST JP website. The order of reveals were as follows:
Heartslabyul
Octavinelle
Scarabia
Pomefiore
Ignihyde
Savannaclaw
Diasomnia
As you'll notice, Savanaclaw was the sixth dorm shown, NOT the second (which is the order that its book is in the game). This is the only dorm "out of order" with TWST's main story. This led to some fans theorizing that Savanaclaw was actually intended to be the sixth installment in the main story, NOT the second, which aligns with some details in the plot (ie the Riddle-Azul emphasis in the prologue, implying that Octavinelle would follow Heartslabyul; the introduction to Diasomnia in the Savanaclaw chapter). I’m guessing that “the plan was to involve a conflict between two princes in episode 7” mentioned was a reference to how the previous episode’s characters would return to help with the current episode’s dilemma, thereby resulting in a clash between Leona and Malleus. Again though, none of this has been confirmed.
Some have also suggested that the noticeably poorer writing quality of The Usurper from the Wilds may be attributed to this theorized “last minute structural change”. Do note that Savanaclaw was released to the public on July 29th 2019, and the game itself officially dropped March 18th 2020; that’s roughly 7.5 months. I don’t know about the intricacies of game development, so I can’t say if that’s a sufficient or a realistic amount of time to rework and/or to rewrite a script to insert it earlier than intended, but this time is worth considering when thinking over the speculation. Consider how much they could have cut out of 2 (The Usurper from the Wilds) and how much they would have had to add to 6 (The Watchman of the Underworld) in this time while also preparing to launch.
Regardless of whether or not the theory is true, I do feel like episode 2 could have benefited from more time/parts to explore its ideas and themes. I'm not sure what else might have happened (in terms of plot significant events), since its events would be contingent on what came before it (and who knows how much of the main story was rewritten or redone), but 🤡 Savanaclaw could have definitely been a lot better than what it actually ended up as...

Hello! Your art is really amazing and I also have a question to ask you if you wouldn't mind
I don't mean this in a rude way and the reason I'm asking is because I'm curious, why do you ship Ortho/Idia and Lilia/Silver?
+ Anonymous asked:
Hello ! I was wondering what make you ship ortho and idia ? No jugements here I also shipped family members in the past for various reasons, but I can’t seem to see the appeal of this particular ship. Anyway, have a nice day ! (btw sorry for my grammar i’m not english)
-------------
Hi, Anons! Seems like I’m starting all of my replies with apologizing for being late, this one isn’t an exception lol This is another ask that I wanted to think about for a while to make sure that I reply to it properly.
Thank you so much for liking my art and thank you for approaching this question in a polite way. I know this is a controversial topic, this is why we try to be honest about it, but at the same time not to post about it too often; but if you’re curious, I don’t mind talking about it. Ehh but this post is super long, I don’t know if you wanted it to be this long haha well.
Obligatory disclaimer,in case there are any people out there who still don’t realise where we stand on this issue: fiction is fiction, any topic or trope could be explored and played around with in fiction, and there is no direct correlation between the tropes a person loves and their moral code or life choices. One does not “support *something*” by shipping a certain ship. It’s not that deep.
With that out of the way, let’s proceed! Starting with Ortho/Idia. The reply’s mostly about them, tbh.
And right away, another disclaimer: like I mentioned in another post on this topic, us shipping Ortho and Idia romantically doesn’t mean that we don’t appreciate the platonic reading of their relationship. The idea that platonic love could be super strong and tragic and make a person do drastic things for their sibling’s happiness is great and rarely explored in fiction. Believe it or not, we just really love the way they’re written, and even though we ship them romantically, we’re not blind to this version of their dynamic and we love that twst has a storyline like this. This storyline made me lose my mind as a shipper, but even if we look at it platonically, the fact that Idia called out the hypocrisy of swooning over Orpheus and Eurydice and yet people thinking that him (Idia) desperately wanting to bring back his brother is wrong is just beautiful.
Alright, that’s all the disclaimers, let’s dive into the shipping territory and talk about our feelings.
I don’t know, man, they just… love each other so much. The sheer volume of their love is so impressive and beautiful, and when it comes to shipping tropes that we like, they pretty much tick all the boxes. I’ll try to explain it in more detail and with examples.
Since it’s a little bit hard to talk about them because there are so many versions of Ortho, I’ll try to say things that are common to all of them. And when I’m talking about a specific version of Ortho, I’ll mention that.
First of all, we really love ships that force characters to open up, develop, evolve and enhance the traits that we love about them. This is why in all of my character rants I tend to talk about their relationships with others, and in all of my headcanon posts I tend to talk about canonical events a lot: these things are strongly tied together for us. So naturally, I’ll start by talking about Ortho and the way his character works (and develops) through his relationships with Idia.
To be honest, we didn’t really care for Ortho at first. He wasn’t all that interesting to us based on his design and character quirks (alright, a cute robot boy, we get it), but once we got to know him better, he literally became one of our favourites. Because he is so much more than just a cute robot boy who only acts like a mascot or does whatever Idia wants him to do.
Even though he is perceived (mostly by the fandom, but also by some of the characters) as a child, he is definitely not an innocent and gullible baby. If we compare AI-Ortho to original Ortho from the flashback, it becomes very clear just how different they are. Ortho from the flashback is a very young child: he sounds, acts and talks like one. AI-Ortho, even though he’s based on the original Ortho, is nothing like that, because he grows, develops and learns with time. Ortho has shown again and again that he is smart, he could be quite cunning, his morals are questionable (since, you know, he is an AI and not a person), and he is quite reflective and perceptive. He is much more mature than he is given credit for, and a big part of it is that his main role is to take care of Idia. And not just in a “drink water, niisan” kind of way: he also acts as Idia’s emotional crutch at times. Ortho is very attentive to Idia’s emotional state, because this is what he’s been doing his entire robo-life: making sure that Idia is feeling alright, comforting him, reassuring him constantly, finding this fragile balance between not pushing Idia too hard and trying to inspire him to socialize with others as much as he can. This takes a lot of empathy and emotional wisdom; it’s clear that between him and Idia, Ortho takes the role of a mature caretaking person, even though he could still be a little bit naïve at times. And as he learns and adapts, he becomes more strict and more pushy with Idia, he learns how to persuade him, manipulate him, how to trick him. He becomes less anxious and scared to accidentally hurt Idia, because he knows what’s best for him.
Ortho as a character develops through his relationships with Idia, and we really love how big of a role Idia plays in his life. Of course, it’s obvious, because Ortho’s main purpose is to assist Idia, but the thing is, he’s always had his own agency about it. From one of his birthday vignettes we learn that Idia didn’t really want to talk to him at first when he created him, so Ortho had to analyze movies and learn how to have a proper emotional human-like dialogue, trying to find a way to approach Idia. And this “trying to find a way to approach him, trying to find a way to communicate with him, trying to make him happy” is Ortho’s entire life quest, but it’s such a dynamic quest that makes him learn a lot about himself as well. Even though Ortho only got his “heart” at the end of chapter 6, I think he developed feelings much earlier than that.
Which leads us to a very specific trope that we love in ships and media: an AI that falls in love/becomes obsessed with a person it serves. And not necessarily in a healthy or human way, since its grasp of empathy and ethics is much different from a human being’s, which makes its love weird and uncanny and yet strong and absolutely genuine. As I mentioned in one of the previous replies, the idea of AI-Ortho developing feelings for Idia, despite not being programmed to feel this way, is heartbreakingly beautiful. And this is exactly what happened to them: Idia is a genius, but he still wouldn’t be able to make AI-Ortho love him as much as he ended up loving him. So all of it is on Ortho…
Another group of tropes that we love a lot are overprotectiveness, unhealthy obsessions and yandere scenarios. And boy these two deliver when it comes to that. They are super protective over each other.
We really enjoyed Ortho’s Ignihyde Gear vignette, in which he overhears some Diasomnia students talking shit about him and Idia and tries to fry them with lasers, because being rude to Idia is an unforgivable sin to Ortho, to the point that he doesn’t even care when Trein calls him out for endangering others. He gets super upset when Trein bans him from going to classes with Idia though, and when he tells Idia about it, Idia gets furious… because how could these assholes bully Ortho, and how could Trein punish Ortho when he was only standing up for himself! The first instinct for both of them in this situation is to get back at assholes for hurting someone they care about. They worry about each other to the degree that they immediately become very antagonistic and cruel towards anyone who wrongs their loved one. And this is such a great trope for us, we love it a lot. In general, if you can describe a ship with a phrase “have you ever loved someone so much you’d want to destroy the world for them”, we’re most likely on board with it, having a mental breakdown because of how absolutely beautiful it is. And this is even a minor example, compared to everything that’s happened in chapter 6… When you look at it from the shipper point of view, the entirety of chapter 6 is so painfully romantic. (Also, even if instead of AI-Ortho we had a real Ortho, I’m pretty sure he would’ve been just as overprotective. The Shrouds are not okay.)
Another good theme of this ship is that ever since they were kids, they were all alone; all they have is each other, and that hasn’t changed even now, as the events of the game unfold. I love this bittersweet feeling of them being the only people who are capable of understanding each other in this big world, it’s such a unique (for a lot of reasons) and extremely strong bond. And it doesn’t matter which version of Ortho you take: be it the canonverse, be it an AU in which the original Ortho never died, they would still be extremely close and feel like the two of them are somewhat separated from the rest of the world. Their experience together is different, no one knows that they went through, and ships with such a great connection are always fun for us to play around with. Especially when their bond comes with a heavy baggage. A lot of things that I’ve described could be very unhealthy, and again, even if Ortho was alive, their relationship with Idia wouldn’t be all that healthy. Idia is very dependent on Ortho, he clings to him and could be pretty much helpless without him. No matter the AU(or canon), Idia always seems like someone who is filled with guilt over it, but just can’t help it. And at the same time, he might feel that Ortho has so much more to live for than to waste his life on his useless brother, and that he has to let him go. Idia is always ready to sacrifice pretty much everything about himself for Ortho, always has been, as we saw it in the flashback. The trauma, the codependence, the jealousy – all these feelings could eat Idia (or Ortho for that matter) alive, and we’ll always enjoy this type of content with them.
Also, here is a fun little bonus. Another interesting thing that I noticed and also some people pointed out as well (well, I’ve seen only one, but I’m not sure we’re the only people who noticed that) is that Ortho and Idia’s story kind of has some correlations with Hercules and Megara’s story. I am very biased because I adore Meg, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Well, Ortho does have a lot of motifs of Hercules and it’s a fact: he “goes from zero to hero”, he is being called “Monsieur Wonder” (Wonderboy), he wanted to be a hero ever since he was a child. And at the end of his arc he had an opportunity to start living a new life, true to who he is (stop pretending to be Ortho Shroud and find his own identity = joining the gods on Olympus), but ends up staying with the one he loves instead (just like Hercules stayed with Meg, because “I finally know where I belong”).
Idia is clearly based on Hades and he doesn’t let us forget it for a moment with his constant quoting, but he still has some interesting traits that resemble Meg as well. He is kinda stuck doing a job he hates (although this is true to Hades as well). And even though his backstory is very different from hers, ultimately, he is a cynical heartbroken person who is disappointed in life and doesn’t want to get hurt again, and who also has a huge soft spot for a certain wonderboy who is very genuine and kind to him, which also makes him feel deep and constant guilt. I really love this unintentional (?) crossover lol
And the last thing, If we’re being open and honest, there are also some aspects of Ortho and Idia’s relationship that hit close to home to us personally. Not the incest thing of course, but the way their dynamic works. Without diving deeper into details of our personal life, let me just say that when Ortho said that he just doesn’t want Idia to be misunderstood and mistreated by others, I felt it.
It’s funny that you, the first Anon, asked about both Ortho/Idia and Lilia/Silver, of course I know what makes these two ships similar lol, but the thing is, our attitude towards Lilia/Silver is a bit different simply because we don’t know them as well as we do Ortho and Idia. With Lilia and Silver, our feelings could basically be described as “well that would be fun/hot, wouldn’t it?”. It’s more on a sexy side of things, even though there are some deeper aspects of their relationships that we love and find interesting. The fact that we love both Lilia and Silver individually also makes them quite a nice ship. They just have a lot of potential for both cute scenarios and really really problematic, unhealthy and fucked up ones. The only reason I’m not writing a 4 page long essay on these two is because I don’t have as much to say about them… yet. Sorry, there’re so many characters in TW, and it takes a while both to get to everyone and to enjoy the ones we’re pretty confident about, so idk how long it’ll take for us to truly dive into Lilia/Silver as much as we have with Ortho/Idia.
TLDR; We love unhealthy dynamics, codependence, possessiveness and readiness to act drastically for a loved one. Ortho and Idia love each other dearly, and there is a lot of baggage and layers to their relationships, no matter which version of Ortho and Idia you take. Lilia and Silver also have a lot of potential for fun unhealthy scenarios, but they are also very hot together, and we are very self-indulgent, sooo don’t mind if we do.
And finally, let’s save all the right and healthy dynamics for real life. In fiction, it’s fun to look at things that are interesting, unusual and taboo. It’s always been this way with us; we’re just naturally drawn towards ships that have problematic elements in them, since they tend to have more potential for messed-up scenarios (and we prefer those). Even in ships with zero age gap and no family relation between the characters whatsoever, we enjoy playing with the idea of unhealthy obsessions, dependence and all this jazz. We just really love dark media, and not only for shipping purposes.
It’s also ironic, considering the topic of this particular post, but we aren’t that into incest as a trope/kink, haven’t been at least. We’re just very open-minded when a ship grabs our attention, and this is exactly what’s been happening lately with all these couples lol
I guess that’s it? Let me know if you have any more questions, and I really hope that I managed to explain what we see in these ships properly. If this monster of a reply isn’t enough for you for some reason and you crave more of our thoughts, please read this one too…
Thank you for reading! And have a good day.
