Best Fedi-Client Apps 🍎

When it comes to the Fediverse—at least the social sites distinctly built on ActivityPub's protocol (the 'proper' Fedi platforms)—one of the greatest perks is the ability for all of these instances' users to openly interact with one another, regardless of which website you're occupying. In other words, they're cross-platform.
Therefore, many of the apps that appear to be simply for Mastodon users oftentimes support most of the other popular microblogs, ie: Pixelfed, Pleroma, Misskey—and even macro-sized Friendica!
Listed above are 4 notable apps for Apple users. They all have inclusive cross-OS convenience, multiple account support, and all unique from one another...
For those who value customization: Mona would be the choice for you. Offering both free and paid (OTP) options, it boasts an insane amount of customization features. I can't think of anything this app won't let you customize in one way or another! Aside from that, it's speedy, innovative, and well-equipped with a wide range of available Apple Shortcut actions.
Ivory has long-remained the choice for power users. Backed by a skilled development team: you can expect a quality product. The only downside of this would be the expected... albeit with a free trial to taste, but: Ivory is backed with a subscription price.
"Speedy, customizable & cold" as Ice Cubes describes itself couldn't be further from the truth. A well-rounded app by all respects, it offers a jubilant experience from the customizations all the way to the no-payment access! (Granted, there's an optional ability to send a cash tip, which is both appreciated as it is many times deserved.)
Lastly, for those who prefer a minimal interface without lacking in functionality, we have Sabertooth. Notably an underdog to the other names listed—stability and innovation is how I perceive Sabertooth's future. It's entirely free to use; however, the satisfaction it provides hardly leaves one even considering a paid counterpart.
As a fair send-off... I have tested many Mastodon apps, but there is a fairly incredible amount available on the App Store, with more appearing as the Fediverse grows everpopular. I highly recommend sampling any others you may see, too; even if that be just sticking with the officially released Mastodon client—it itself includes multiple account support for its fellow micro-platforms, too! Happy Tooting!

Hello i have a question : i want to convert my little sister to linux but she is in the apple environment so it's a difficult task.. I personally don't use a desktop environment so i don't know things about these. Can you recommend something for her?
(I ask you cause i see hall the [cool | stylish] people are loving you <3)
I think there's 2 routes you can go down depending on what aspects of Apple's environment she likes and how computer savvy she is.
Your first option is regular Fedora Workstation, which ships with gnome. It's very reminiscent of osx: top status bar, rounded, lots of padding, very little room for customisation, people usually use add-ons
The other option is the KDE Plasma desktop. It will require being comfortable changing everything about the desktop. You can use latte to replace the app launcher to one very similar to osx's, you can change window decorations to match osx, and it has KDE connect by default (I assume) (admittedly not specific to kde. It probably works on gnome and I even use it on windows). It's a cool piece of software to connect your phone to your desktop and one of the features is file sharing 80% as good as airdrop.
Overall though I think it's hard to make apple users switch to Linux, especially if they've bought into the ecosystem. Having a MacBook + iPhone + AirPods is a nice experience and unless the user actually starts hating macos and is a little technical, Linux is a tough sell.

huh… it used to be so easy to just make an album into an audiobook on osx/itunes… now i am accidentally importing the entire contents of my computer into the books app. because i accidentally double clicked the base folder. and there is no cancel or undo button. who designed this?!?!?!?
i’m very irritated.
on the plus side it’s definitely only creating links not copying the files, but still. this is going to be a mess to clean back up.

what app do you use to write your poetry in?
that all depends! for the last two i used openoffice, which is free to download for windows, linux, and osx and honestly a Godsend and a lifesaver for university in general when you hate microsoft word. the few before that were all on google docs mobile, set to times new roman and light mode before screenshotting. before that is just notesapp
thats just what i screenshot them in, though, most of them are actually written like wherever man. a lot are from my notes app, Long-Term Stress was done directly in openoffice, Missing Person was typed into a tumblr draft and then copy+pasted into the openoffice doc. Long-Term Stress was exported to a pdf before i screenshotted it, while Missing Person was left in the document draft because i wanted to include the margin border, red underlines, and cursor. hope this more than answers your question 👍

How to easily stream your (New) 3DS to a PC
For a long time, capturing footage from a 3DS was a pain - streaming the 3DS screens either required a hardmod to install a capture card (which, if you can, should still do if possible), or use one of the several wireless methods (NTR CFW and HzMod) that gave poor results, especially on Old 3DS.
Today, thanks to the effors of zbash92, there is now a way to stream the New 3DS display to your computer with actually decent picture quality and low latency!
youtube
New NTR CFW test done back when it was firstly released
Here's a few applications of streaming your 3DS to a computer:
Playing on a bigger screen
Recording footage of 3DS games
Capturing audio for OSTs or music you made on 3DS
Below is a guide to setting everything up, including audio capture.
Requirements
A hacked New 3DS system (Old 3DS users might use HzMod via a separate guide but the performance is VERY POOR. Old 3DS can still have their audio captured by audio cable.)
A good network connection that both the New 3DS and your PC share
(If you want to capture audio) A 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable and either a microphone port or a Y splitter that has a microphone port
Setup wireless streaming (3DS)
Install the .cia file onto your 3DS from the latest release of this NTR fork
Run the newly installed app, go through the setup until prompted to run a desired version - pick 3.6 HR at the very bottom
Press X+Y to open the NTR CFW menu and choose Remote Play (New 3DS) - this will show you the IP address your console has, and will also let you configure quality and performance options
Setup wireless streaming (PC)
Install one of the following NTR viewers: - NTRViewer (Windows and Linux, x64) - Snickerstream (Windows, x86 and x64) - kit-kat-slim (Windows, allows using input redirection AKA controlling your 3DS with the PC) - Twix (Windows, also allows input redirection and looks fancy) - cuteNTR (Linux) - cuteNTR-OSX (Mac OS) There are other ones, including for Windows 10/Xbox and even Wii U, but the performance may not be ideal for these
Run the NTR viewer you chose and input the IP address you got earlier. You can also set quality and performance options in the viewer as well as rendering options if available
Connect to your 3DS and enjoy looking at your console on a bigger(?) screen!
Setup audio capture
Connect the 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable to your 3DS headphone port and PC's microphone port (directly or via the Y splitter in computer's headphone port)
You can test the audio by either enabling listening to the new microphone device or using a program such as Audacity or OBS
Notes and Issues
TRY NOT TO CLOSE YOUR 3DS LID! It can sometimes lead to black screens and no response from the console, in which case you should hold the power button until it shuts down
This CANNOT record your DS, DSiWare or GBA VC games. Those require a capture card or using an emulator instead. Audio can be captured regardless of what your system is running
Some games may disable your internet connection, which means that you need to use patching option provided by NTR CFW or your NTR viewer of choice
If your NTR Viewer doesn't work, check firewall and viewer's render settings first and then try other viewers for your system
If your viewer disconnects on still screens, increase the timeout/wait time of the viewer if available (for Snickerstream, it's in Advanced settings)
If you have choppy framerate, decrease the quality, fiddle with QoS value and Encoder Priority, or get a better internet connection :p
If you have audio issues, try switching between microphone out and line out

mac classic, next and osx were calling them apps before ios and android had ever seen a public
they're packages, not just the program binary. you can open them up and see everything. it's a different paradigm from DOS-informed windows, and from the usual POSIX userspace.
i'm forty in a few months, this paradigm is old as me. surely we can understand "these are various applications of this system's capabilities." surely we can understand a package is not just a program, nor a script, but may contain both and more. surely we can understand mac classic was a very flexible system, as was next, which is literally all of the apple operating systems now.
apps isn't what's restricting your phone, and it's not restricting your computer, either. and there are systems that are not windows and are not PC-DOS derivatives, each with their own paradigms you'd know a hell of a lot more about if not for microsoft strongarming the competition out of existence.
anyway these are applications of your system's capabilities. use them, see them as examples and see if you can come up with new ones.
next, be, haiku and the apple ecosystem are all the children of mac classic. along with apps we get automation – a visual scripting language chaining actions across apps on a file, which can be called repeatedly from a menu. we get droplets – specifically described processes from a single app that can be carried out on a file, like say you want a specific kind of compression with a specific setting ready to carry out on files as they're made; now rather than opening the whole thing up, you drag and drop the droplet over the file and it does what you wanted, using minimum resources and minimum time. and we get to use bash scripts because POSIX, these aren't presented as anything but scripts; you can perform any actions you want on any files you want, using any process with hooks.
first computer i ever touched was an apple ][, not long after was a macintosh, most my life in computers has been away from windows, using either linux, a bsd (including osx) or haiku.
not to enforce gender roles but a computer should NOT fucking have apps okay. if I wanted an app I'd go on my phone my laptop is for Programs. I mean this.
#cocoa#macintosh#POSIX#haiku-os#beos#next#they're all shaking hands like “fuck is a program?”#windows can go to hell#java got apps and applets too and sun was the goat#y'all can't not bother to know what your systems can do and claim that's anybody else's fault#fucking explore what you have

TOP 10 REASON WHY SWIFT IS THE OPTION FOR IOS APP DEVELOPMENT
When it comes to Swift for iOS development, mobile app developers no longer always have to analyze and review their choices.
Making the switch to the full-featured and more approachable Swift is the way to go nowadays. This makes it easy for entrepreneurs to transform their innovative ideas into incredible mobile applications.
For a long time, Objective-C was the major language used for iOS and OSX app development. This language is a superset of the C language but comes with a dynamic runtime and additional object-oriented features.
But using Objective-C for app development was pretty tough. However, Swift is rapidly taking over a significant chunk of the iOS mobile app development market share.
Swift is a highly intuitive, object-oriented programming language introduced by Apple in 2014 exclusively for software development for macOS, iOS, and watchOS. Entrepreneurs are now assured that whatever idea or concept they have can work when they use Swift for iOS.
Gone are the days when iOS app development used to be complicated or challenging and time-consuming, which often resulted in frequent app crashes.
Popular applications like Artsy, WeChat, Yep, Furni, and a host of others were developed in Swift iOS. And since the initial Swift for iOS development was presented to the market, many projects are presently migrating to this remarkable programming language.
Writing code in Swift iOS is interactive and fun as the syntax is powerfully brief. This programming language comes with several modern features that mobile app developers love to work on. The code written using Swift is also safe and contributes to software development that runs with lightning speed.
Swift uses a combination of Objective-C and C without a direct built-in C compatibility, thereby leaving out the limitations that come with it. And with the help of Cocoa and Cocoa Touch, Swift programming language has uniquely redefined our understanding of mobile app development on all iOS platforms.

If your laptop or PC has started to run more slowly than usual, you might start thinking the worst and panicking that a virus is present or the hard drive is starting to fail. While these reasons could be behind the problem, it could just easily be something less worrying. In fact, there are myriad reasons why your computer could be running slowly, many of which are pretty simple to fix. Read on to find out what’s ailing your laptop or PC and how you can quickly and easily improve its performance. If you are a MAC user, you may also want to check out this article about speeding up MAC OSX computers. Background Programs Quite often, even if you think you’ve shut a program down, it’s still running in the background. There’s a simple way to check and that’s by opening the task manager on your Windows computer or equivalent program on a Mac operating system. Then, click the CPU tab and sort by size. It’ll be easy to see what’s taking up the most or your RAM and also, to shut down/end task of those programs you’re no longer using or thought you’d already closed. This simple process should have the desired effect and get your computer running more quickly again. Also, it might be because service Host apps become corrupt and begin consuming more processing power than they should, so your computer struggles to keep up. Refer to this service host in case you encounter the said issue. Too Many Internet Browsers This is something that most of us do on a pretty regular basis; we keep the tabs we’re interested in opening, so we don’t lose them. However, if you’re at the stage where 20 or more pages are open, this is likely to affect the performance of your PC or laptop. Remember, your computer has limited memory, or RAM, to open and run programs and when a lot of that RAM is being used at once, things will move more slowly. Bookmark the pages you want to return to, or make an easily accessible list of links, then shut the pages down. That way, you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for while letting your computer run at its usual capacity. Unnecessary Startup Programs In the process of using your computer, you’ll undoubtedly download new software and programs. Many of them will want to assert their authority by opening up when you boot up your computer – even though you don’t want or need them to. To avoid this problem, whenever you’re downloading or using something new, make sure you uncheck the box next to the question: open on startup. This simple action will ensure your computer only opens the required programs at startup, that won’t overly slow it down. Full Hard Drive Another potential reason behind your slow running computer is that your hard drive is nearing capacity. If it’s over 90% full, there’s less room available to open and run programs you might want to use when you’re logged on. The answer to this problem is to ensure you’re not storing programs, files and data you don’t need. If it’s still around the 90% mark once you’ve cleaned up, you might need to invest in additional RAM. Luckily, RAM is pretty well priced and also a fairly simple process to undertake yourself or with a technically minded friend. Once you’ve increased your RAM – the computer’s memory size – you should find the performance is back to where you want it to be, or even faster! Virus or Malware Of course, it could be that your computer is infected by a virus, or some form of malware is running on there. You can check by running a reliable anti-virus or computer security scan. If problems are detected that you’re unsure how to rectify, give your local, friendly computer experts a call. You can discuss your findings and we’ll advise you on how best to proceed. Sometimes it can be handled by you from home. But, if it seems a real problem, then we will fix the issue ourselves – where ever possible. How To Speed Up Your Slow Computer? Below is a list of YouTube videos that shares some useful tips to speed up your computer. Bio- Justin Szaferstein is a computer and IT support Engineer at SuperGeek Australia.

new osx update has either a bug or an intentional design change where an app expanded to fill the screen (but not fullscreened) will leave approximately one pixel of space between the top of the window and the bottom of the upper menu, so there is a tiny sliver of the desktop peeking through........i know i'll get used to it eventually but for now it is driving me absolutely fucking nuts
