The Journey Begins...
Hey there!
I am Kyran, and I am a beginner freelance writer and blogger. If you have already seen my about page i'm sure you know that I do more than that, but this is just about my blogging and journalism, so lets focus on that. I thought of some important questions you may want to know about my blog so you guys could know a bit more about it. I've put them together here for you, kind of like a guide book to my blog. Take a look!
What are you going to write about?
I'm going to write about a broad scope of topics, not just one. Even though I do love technology, I think it would be good to write about more than just that. I find it very helpful and therapeutic to write, so, in a way, this is kind of for me.
2. Democratic or Republican?
Both. Neither. In between. I have ideas that represent both parties, and therefore I cannot classify myself as either, nor neither. I don't exactly like the divide between the whole country because of the difference in parties either. Only 3% of the United States are directly between the two, so I'm definitely proud to say that.
3. Are you going to write "how-to's" and guides?
Yes, I am going to write guides, but they will mostly be about technology and some random things which I just know how to do. Don't expect much DIY, as I'm the least creative person ever, even though I love being creative.
4. Are you religious and will you include your religious beliefs in your posts?
In Sweden and many countries in Europe, you don't talk about your religion. Not face to face, not online, not anywhere. Only at home with people who are of the same religion, or at the special place of the religion, like a mosque or a church. I'm going to put out there that I am not religious, but I will not include anything about religion within my posts.
5. Are you on YouTube, SnapChat, Pinterets, etc.?
Honestly, I don't interact on social media as much as I used to, but I am on some. I will use Pinterest for the DIY section, but I will not be posting anything on any other social media. A YouTube Channel will be coming soon, but it will be a while.
6. Apple vs Google vs Microsoft
If anyone were to ask me this question, I would answer with Google every single time. if you were to include Samsung, I would still say Google. Apple is too closed up for me, though their design is starting to grab my attention and Microsoft... Well, they just have a good desktop operating system.
7. Will you be doing more in your music section other than just remixes?
I'm very glad you asked that, because I will be doing more than just remixes. I will be advertising artists which I think should be more popular than what they are, it will be the main section where I post New Music Friday, and it will feature the latest gossip on upcoming albums, singles, E.P's and exclusive merch.
8. Have you ever wrote about anything health related?
No, I have not, at least, not YET. I may write a couple on different mental illnesses and to spread awareness of other diseases, and I may also try to help other people who need expensive medical care advertise to raise money for their cause. As someone who suffers from anxiety, OCD and hypersensitivity, which have all stemmed from my Autism, I can give tips and tricks to help other people who are facing problems with these mental illnesses.
9. What is the projects page for?
Basically, I have a lot of ideas which I can never keep track of. So, how do I remember them? I put them here, where everyone can see them. That way, other people can help me through certain challenges and become part of some of my efforts. At the time of writing, I am working on my Linux Distro, KeyWi OS. Check out the Projects tab to learn more about this project and to see any other projects I have launched.
10. Ally or foe?
I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I strive for equality within all of our minorities, not just the LGBTQ+. I don't care if you like me or hate me, or even if you are completely different to me. We are all human, and as long as we treat each other equally, I couldn't care less what you looked like.
I hope these have answered some of your questions, but, if they have not, feel free to contact me. My email and a contact form is available on the contact tab, and I will respond to any email as quickly as possible.
Enjoy your day, and don't forget to smile!

Taskade: Multi-platform planner and task manager
The year 2021 is looming over us and I am dying to have some sort of control over what I could be doing for the next 365 days. While 2020 had been a year of 'character building', I discover alot of things about everything around me and myself. For starters, I am an avid planner; surprisingly. But it does not mean that I follow through with them. See what I did right there? I am admitting the truth behind self-study and lifetime of learning.
With alot of things I have planned to breathe new life to my own progress and time management, I went hunting for some interesting stuff in the internet for inspiration and try-outs. And guess what? I found one and I think most people may have been using this already in full swing because the review is 5 ⭐!
🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑
Taskade is simply a project/team management tool. Ah ah ah...before you write me off, hear me out. Taskade is aimed to help teams to plan, organize or manage their tasks and prioritize output for decision-making. It is simply an interactive planner sans organizer sans dashboard that sees where you're at with your work, what you've managed to get done and communicate tasks among people in your team; IF you have a whole team working on some sort of project. Hence, the chat capability that is implemented in this tool.
At my job, I work in a team of only 2 people; me and another colleague, and we're the regional programme unit which is apart of the bigger unit of team mates spread elsewhere in other regions. So, just because your unit is small, it doesn't mean that your task load complements your pint-sized manpower. So, I've been looking for platforms that could help me organize our productivity and ensure high-quality output. Just because technology is more advanced, it doesn'e mean there isn't any learning curve, right? So I tried just about anything under the sun for project/team management; Asana, Slack, Discord, the pre-existing Google..., but none of them could nail all shortcomings precisely; due dates, assignment of tasks, progress, sub-tasks, interactive commenting, multiplatform sync, brainstorming etc. Channels in Slack gives me headache -- same with Discord, and Telegram channels is too 'static' and 'one-way street' for me to view everything.
I found Taskade after trying to find a complementary 'Forest: Focus' extension at the Google Chrome extensions marketplace. There are plenty of interesting high-quality extensions as of late and I am pleasantyl surprised because earlier this year, most of them were quite 'beta' in their functionality. I saw a 'Bullet Journal' extension that someone raved about and another individual commented: 'Isn't this Taskade?'. The curious cat I am, I googled it and was not disappointed. What are the main keywords that hooked me?:
FREE
Google-integrated
Remote work environment advocacy
Multi-platform
What features do Taskade actually have? ✨
Given that it is an All-in-One Collaboration tool, it is understandable if the GUI is pleasing on the eyes. I do understand that first-impression is everything; color, packaging, fore-front information and visual, but it was really the functionality that delivers me to salvation. If you're an active member of Dev.to, then you'll catch feels with this theme that Taskade delivers. Key features in Taskade that you should try out:
Task list
Collaborators invitation feature (no organizational handle required)
Chat feature (with a call feature!)
Workspace feature (nothing new but...I'll get back to this later)
5 interchangeable neural-forest task list templates; List, Board, Action, Mindmap and Org Chart -- seamless with no error.
The capability to utilize this very platform as a presentation or exported into PDF task list printout.
Safe to say, Taskade buried me alive with the curation of beautiful images for the background; again...not relevant but needed to be said.
The Live Demosandbo lets you try it out for yourself although, at first glance, you may be wondering what on earth you are looking at. But it won't take long before you discover that it is quite intuitive.
Did I mention you can download and access it from just about ANYWHERE? Laptops, browser extensions and even smartphone apps. I'm not kidding when I said Taskade is multiplatform; they work on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and Linux. Currently, I am testing it out using the Chrome extension and installed the app in my Android phone. It works like I expect it to so far.
What is the difference between the FREE and PAID version? 💰💰💰
As I just mentioned, you can sign-up for it for free and use it for life...for free. The priced version is seemingly there to accommodate the file size per upload you require; as of now. For free plan, you can upload 5MB file per upload while the paid version increases the size to 50MB per upload. Both versions offer:
Unlimited storage
Unlimited tasks entry
Unlimited project creation
Unlimited collaborators addition
The development team is currently adding more functionalities such as Project Activity Tracking, Integration to Dropbox, Google Drive and One Drive as well as Email Integration -- available for free.
Although it is mentioned that the free version of Taskade includes unlimited tasks, collaborators and all essential features, it was also mentioned that you will need to upgrade if you exceed the workspace limits which doesn't actually have any entailing elaborations which I will try to dig soon enough. But safe to say that if you are a single person using this tool, you are considered a team of 'one' where your shared projects in workspace to your 'editors' are still considered free. Only workspace the addition of workspace members are billed. This may imply that there are certain limits to how many individuals you can add into your workspace before you are required to upgrade. So far, visually, I see that the limit may be 2 people that makes up to 3 people per workspace (including yourself). You can find some details to pricing and FAQs here:
Taskade | Simple Pricing
Personally, I don't think USD5 is a hard bargain if you're self-employed and work with external parties collaboratively. If you're apart of an organization, feel free to ask for demo from them. Discount is possible if you're from a nonprofit or educational institution.
How I use Taskade? ☕
Well, given that it was free to sign-up, I tried it out straight away and I'm happy to report that I successfully managed to use it without having to google nor view any how-tos. That is a good thing! In fact, I am quite elated with just how easy it is to use this tool that I have used my personal email to help centralize and manage my work and personal work side-by-side. If you prefer some satellite view of your progress and all the task you need to complete to clear off certain objective, this is not a bad organization.
So I created 2 workspace: one for work and one for my personal tasks. Then I just collate all my tasks into monthly projects.
My personal tasks involve me updating my study progress and curating stuff I like online into my Tumblr blog.
Create studyblr workspace
Create new project in the studyblr workspace to organize and brainstorm Tumblr contents I plan to create and post: Tumblr: 2021/01.
Utilize the Mindmap template from all the options of templates shared and start creating the and organizing the content I want and tasks I need to execute to develop them.
Et voila! There all there is to it! It is easy peasy and you can start adding due dates as reminders and links as resources as well as hashtags for filtering in future. Check out some drafting I did so far in the screenshots below!
youtube
For more updates, check out their Updates page that fully utilizes Taskade to share all the updates straight from December 2017 till present and the chat function is there available for you to ask the Taskade team about the feature updates directly. Now that's awesome cause you know something's good if the one who makes them, actually uses them.😎😎😎

Creating Vector Graphics
While making icons for StoryDevs it became obvious that raster graphics (i.e., images made of pixels) wouldn’t cut it. I wanted to be able to scale the images up or down without losing quality. This post is about me learning how to make vector graphics and the best free program I could find to make them.
Part 0: What Are Vector Graphics?
Most images you interact with on a computer are probably raster images which are made up of a grid of pixels. Common formats for such images are JPEG, PNG, GIF, and so on. When you zoom in on a raster image you can see the individual pixels, and scaling them up tends to look pretty nasty.
In contrast, vector graphics are made up of paths as shown below. You can zoom in forever and it will always be sharp as only the path info is saved, not the pixels that represent them on your screen. When you zoom in on a vector graphic it essentially re-renders the path again so it’s always smooth and clean:
Paths can be straight or curved. Paths can be stroked, which means a coloured line follows the path (as in the gif above), or they can be filled, meaning the interior of the shape is filled with colour. As far as I know, the only vector graphic format supported in modern web browsers SVG — Scalable Vector Graphics.
Part 1: Everything Is A Nail
I’m a 3D artist who can do a little digital painting if bullied. My first approach was to avoid learning a new skill and instead try mapping the problem to a domain I was already confident in. I had Blender and Photoshop installed but Photoshop barely does vector stuff. That left Blender.
Above you can see I modeled the icon for writing Blender. I then downloaded an old Python script that allowed you to render line art to an SVG file. This turned out okaaaay but there was a problem: it wasn’t exporting curves where there were curves… it was exporting segmented paths.
So this meant every time the line curved slightly it created a new segment, leading to a somewhat jagged line. Furthermore, the lines weren’t properly connected in the corners for some reason.
As you can see above the Blender SVG output was janky; you can see the segments even at normal zoom levels. Unfortunately I didn’t know the reason it looked bad at this point. So in the process of troubleshooting it I opened up the SVG file in my text editor. This is how it looked:
To my surprise it was written in XML (eXtensible Markup Language)! XML is similar to HTML — they’re both languages for categorising and storing data. The tags in each language are used to describe the data. If your document has a title, for example, you’d wrap it in a title tag <title>Like This</title>.
For now just ignore everything and look at the <path> tags with a bunch of numbers inside them. Those numbers describe the positions for points along the path. They’re all floating point numbers (i.e., they have a fractional part after the decimal point) rather than integers (whole numbers).
I’d read online that SVGs render best in browsers when there’s only integer values. I don’t know if that’s true, but I thought maybe that was why it was turning out screw-y looking. So I wrote a Python script that read SVG files and rounded the numbers up/down. Here was my script:
This had absolutely no effect! I was pretty pissed off by this point but it lead to a new idea: maybe what I’m seeing is the jagged-ness of polygons. There must be a lot of path segments due to it recreating the polygons as line segments… so maybe if I put it into an online optimiser it’d reduce the segments into curves?
After some searching I found an SVG optimiser online. I decided to try it. The file became much smaller but it didn’t look any better. At this point it became undeniable that Blender was not suited for this task.
Part 2: Get A New Tool
I already knew Inkscape and Adobe Illustrator existed. I had a bad experience once with Inkscape and I don’t want to talk about it. Illustrator is too expensive for me because I want the programs I use to be on-hand incase I want changes. I can’t afford a monthly subscription.
I decide to use Inkscape. It’s a good program in a technical sense — it has a lot of features — but it was just as confusing as I’d remembered. I’m sure there’s an internal logic for why things are the way they are, I just don’t know it. Still it’s a decent program and I made my icon in it.
As an aside: SVG doesn’t support branching paths. I didn’t realise this for a long time and kept trying to make the outer part of the page icon above a single path. Eventually I found this out and ended up making the fold on the upper-right of the writing icon as a separate path:
Using a dedicated vector program also allowed me to snap lines to the grid. This was another suggestion I’d read about creating SVGs that would supposedly help them render better in the browser. I dunno if that’s true but it couldn’t hurt. Something else I could do was use curves:
Notice how there’s only four control points (the grey diamonds)? That means the SVG file only needs to store these four positions rather than hundreds of little segments. This made the file quite small even before it was put through the optimiser.
Anyway, I exported it and ran it through the online optimiser. The result looked good and the file size was smaller. Below is a comparison of the files. The first attempt where I used Blender is on the left, while Inkscape + the online optimiser is on the right.
Much, much better. I integrated the icons I created into the site to see how they’d look when shrunk down. I was pretty happy with the result:
I didn’t feel like creating all the icons at that point so I took a break to do some client work as well as other programming tasks for StoryDevs.
Part 3: The Best Free Vector Graphics Program
When I came back I decided to look for something more easier to use than Inkscape. A couple months back I followed Ubuntu on Twitter since that’s the flavour of Linux that runs on StoryDevs servers. During my search I happened to see a vector art program shared by the Ubuntu account called Gravit Designer.
Overall it’s much easier to find what you’re looking for and it’s free! It’s a program for graphic art that looks like it was designed by graphic artists. I’ve only used the program a bit and while I was initially frustrated by some things, it seems like this is what I’ll be using from now on.
Conclusion
So that’s it! I skipped over the process of integrating the SVGs into the site because that’s another blog post right there. I’m probably going to recreate all StoryDevs’ existing branding and icons as SVGs at some point but for now they’ll remain raster images until I have some time to spare.

5 Myths About Jamstack
Jamstack isn’t necessarily new. The term was officially coined in 2016, but the technologies and architecture it describes have been around well before that. Jamstack has received a massive dose of attention recently, with articles about it appearing in major sites and publications and new Jamstack-focused events, newsletters, podcasts, and more. As someone who follows it closely, I’ve even seen what seems like a significant uptick in discussion about it on Twitter, often from people who are being newly introduced to the concept.
The buzz has also seemed to bring out the criticism. Some of the criticism is fair, and I’ll get to some of that in a bit, but others appear to be based on common myths about the Jamstack that persist, which is what I want to address first. So let’s look at five common myths about Jamstack I’ve encountered and debunk them. As with many myths, they are often based on a kernel of truth but lead to invalid conclusions.
Myth 1: They are just rebranded static sites
JAMStack is 99.9% branding and .1% substance. 😳😆 https://t.co/nxoEVQ43oE
— Nicole Sullivan – Black Lives Matter (@stubbornella) February 9, 2020
Yes, as I covered previously, the term “Jamstack” was arguably a rebranding of what we previously called “static sites.” This was not a rebranding meant to mislead or sell you something that wasn’t fully formed — quite the opposite. The term “static site” had long since lost its ability to describe what people were building. The sites being built using static site generators (SSG) were frequently filled with all sorts of dynamic content and capabilities.
Static sites were seen as largely about blogs and documentation where the UI was primarily fixed. The extent of interaction was perhaps embedded comments and a contact form. Jamstack sites, on the other hand, have things like user authentication, dynamic content, ecommerce, user generated content.
A listing of sites built using Jamstack on Jamstack.org
Want proof? Some well-known companies and sites built using the Jamstack include Smashing Magazine, Sphero, Postman, Prima, Impossible Foods and TriNet, just to name a few.
Myth 2: Jamstack sites are fragile
A Medium article with no byline: The issues with JAMStack: You might need a backend
Reading the dependency list for Smashing Magazine reads like the service equivalent of node_modules, including Algolia, GoCommerce, GoTrue, GoTell and a variety of Netlify services to name a few. There is a huge amount of value in knowing what to outsource (and when), but it is amusing to note the complexity that has been introduced in an apparent attempt to ‘get back to basics’. This is to say nothing of the potential fragility in relying on so many disparate third-party services.
Yes, to achieve the dynamic capabilities that differentiate the Jamstack from static sites, Jamstack projects generally rely on a variety of services, both first- or third-party. Some have argued that this makes Jamstack sites particularly vulnerable for two reasons. The first, they say, is that if any one piece fails, the whole site functionality collapses. The second is that your infrastructure becomes too dependent on tools and services that you do not own.
Let’s tackle that first argument. The majority of a Jamstack site should be pre-rendered. This means that when a user visits the site, the page and most of its content is delivered as static assets from the CDN. This is what gives Jamstack much of its speed and security. Dynamic functionality — like shopping carts, authentication, user generated content and perhaps search — rely upon a combination of serverless functions and APIs to work.
Broadly speaking, the app will call a serverless function that serves as the back end to connect to the APIs. If, for example, our e-commerce functionality relies on Stripe’s APIs to work and Stripe is down, then, yes, our e-commerce functionality will not work. However, it’s important to note that the site won’t go down. It can handle the issue gracefully by informing the user of the issue. A server-rendered page that relies on the Stripe API for e-commerce would face the identical issue. Assuming the server-rendered page still calls the back end code for payment asynchronously, it would be no more or less fragile than the Jamstack version. On the other hand, if the server-rendering is actually dependent upon the API call, the user may be stuck waiting on a response or receive an error (a situation anyone who uses the web is very familiar with).
As for the second argument, it’s really hard to gauge the degree of dependence on third-parties for a Jamstack web app versus a server-rendered app. Many of today’s server-rendered applications still rely on APIs for a significant amount of functionality because it allows for faster development, takes advantage of the specific area of expertise of the provider, can offload responsibility for legal and other compliance issues, and more. In these cases, once again, the server-rendered version would be no more or less dependent than the Jamstack version. Admittedly, if your app relies mostly on internal or homegrown solutions, then this may be different.
Myth 3: Editing content is difficult
Kev Quirk, on Why I Don’t Use A Static Site Generator:
Having to SSH into a Linux box, then editing a post on Vim just seems like a ridiculously high barrier for entry when it comes to writing on the go. The world is mobile first these days, like it or not, so writing on the go should be easy.
This issue feels like a relic of static sites past. To be clear, you do not need to SSH into a Linux box to edit your site content. There are a wide range of headless CMS options, from completely free and open source to commercial offerings that power content for large enterprises. They offer an array of editing capabilities that rival any traditional CMS (something I’ve talked about before). The point is, there is no reason to be manually editing Markdown, YAML or JSON files, even on your blog side project. Aren’t sure how to hook all these pieces up? We’ve got a solution for that too!
One legitimate criticism has been that the headless CMS and build process can cause a disconnect between the content being edited and the change on the site. It can be difficult to preview exactly what the impact of a change is on the live site until it is published or without some complex build previewing process. This is something that is being addressed by the ecosystem. Companies like Stackbit (who I work for) are building tools that make this process seamless.
Editing a site using Stackbit
We’re not the only ones working on solving this problem. Other solutions include TinaCMS and Gatsby Preview. I think we are close to it becoming commonplace to have the simplicity of WYSIWYG editing on a tool like Wix running on top of the Jamstack.
Myth 4: SEO is Hard on the Jamstack
Kym Ellis, on What the JAMstack means for marketing:
Ditching the concept of the plugin and opting for a JAMstack site which is “just HTML” doesn’t actually mean you have to give up functionality, or suddenly need to know how to code like a front-end developer to manage a site and its content.
I haven’t seen this one pop up as often in recent years and I think it is mostly legacy criticism of the static site days, where managing SEO-related metadata involved manually editing YAML-based frontmatter. The concern was that doing SEO properly became cumbersome and hard to maintain, particularly if you wanted to inject different metadata for each unique page that was generated or to create structured data like JSON-LD, which can be critical for enhancing your search listing.
The advances in content management for the Jamstack have generally addressed the complexity of maintaining SEO metadata. In addition, because pages are pre-rendered, adding sitemaps and JSON-LD is relatively simple, provided the metadata required exists. While pre-rendering makes it easy to create the resources search engines (read: Google) need to index a site, they also, combined with CDNs, making it easier to achieve the performance benchmarks necessary to improve a site’s ranking.
Basically, Jamstack excels at “technical SEO” while also providing the tools necessary for content editors to supply the keyword and other metadata they require. For a more comprehensive look at Jamstack and SEO, I highly recommend checking out the Jamstack SEO Guide from Bejamas.
Myth 5: Jamstack requires heavy JavaScript frameworks
If you’re trying to sell plain ol’ websites to management who are obsessed with flavour-of-the-month frameworks, a slick website promoting the benefits of “JAMstack” is a really useful thing.
– jdietrich, Hacker News
Lately, it feels as if Jamstack has become synonymous with front-end JavaScript frameworks. It’s true that a lot of the most well-known solutions do depend on a front-end framework, including Gatsby (React), Next.js (React), Nuxt (Vue), VuePress (Vue), Gridsome (Vue) and Scully (Angular). This seems to be compounded by confusion around the “J” in Jamstack. While it stands for JavaScript, this does not mean that Jamstack solutions are all JavaScript-based, nor do they all require npm or JavaScript frameworks.
In fact, many of the most widely used tools are not built in JavaScript, notably Hugo (Go), Jekyll (Ruby), Pelican (Python) and the recently released Bridgetown (Ruby). Meanwhile, tools like Eleventy are built using JavaScript but do not depend on a JavaScript framework. None of these tools prevent the use of a JavaScript framework, but they do not require it.
The point here isn’t to dump on JavaScript frameworks or the tools that use them. These are great tools, used successfully by many developers. JavaScript frameworks can be very powerful tools capable of simplifying some very complex tasks. The point here is simply that the idea that a JavaScript framework is required to use the Jamstack is false — Jamstack comes in 460 flavors!
Where we can improve
So that’s it, right? Jamstack is an ideal world of web development where everything isn’t just perfect, but perfectly easy. Unfortunately, no. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of Jamstack.
Simplicity
Sebastian De Deyne, with Thoughts (and doubts) after messing around with the JAMstack:
In my experience, the JAMstack (JavaScript, APIs, and Markup) is great until is isn’t. When the day comes that I need to add something dynamic–and that day always comes–I start scratching my head.
Let’s be honest: Getting started with the Jamstack isn’t easy. Sure, diving into building a blog or a simple site using a static site generator may not be terribly difficult. But try building a real site with anything dynamic and things start to get complicated fast.
You are generally presented with a myriad of options for completing the task, making it tough to weigh the pros and cons. One of the best things about Jamstack is that it is not prescriptive, but that can make it seem unapproachable, leaving people with the impression that perhaps it isn’t suited for complex tasks.
Tying services together
Agreed. In yesterday's web you could grab an instrument and begin playing. Today's web development feels like a conductor trying to pull together a massive orchestra into a cohesive song – you have to understand each individual musician's part to have any chance of success.
— Brian Rinaldi (@remotesynth) May 1, 2020
When you actually get to the point of building those dynamic features, your site can wind up being dependent on an array of services and APIs. You may be calling a headless CMS for content, a serverless function that calls an API for payment transactions, a service like Algolia for search, and so on. Bringing all those pieces together can be a very complex task. Add to that the fact that each often comes with its own dashboard and API/SDK updates, things get even more complex.
This is why I think services like Stackbit and tools like RedwoodJS are important, as they bring together disparate pieces of the infrastructure behind a Jamstack site and make those easier to build and manage.
Overusing frameworks
In my opinion, our dependence on JavaScript frameworks for modern front-end development has been getting a much needed skeptical look lately. There are tradeoffs, as this post by Tim Kadlec recently laid out. As I said earlier, you don’t need a JavaScript framework to work in the Jamstack.
However, the impression was created both because so many Jamstack tools rely on JavaScript frameworks and also because much of the way we teach Jamstack has been centered on using frameworks. I understand the reasoning for this — many Jamstack developers are comfortable in JavaScript frameworks and there’s no way to teach every tool, so you pick the one you like. Still, I personally believe the success of Jamstack in the long run depends on its flexibility, which (despite what I said about the simplicity above) means we need to present the diversity of solutions it offers — both with and without JavaScript frameworks.
Where to go from here
Sheesh, you made it! I know I had a lot to say, perhaps more than I even realized when I started writing, so I won’t bore you with a long conclusion other than to say that, obviously, I have presented these myths from the perspective of someone who believes very deeply in the value of the Jamstack, despite it’s flaws!
If you are looking for a good post about when to and when not to choose Jamstack over server-side rendering, check out Chris Coyier’s recent post Static or Not?.

JAMStack is 99.9% branding and .1% substance.
https://t.co/nxoEVQ43oE
— Nicole Sullivan – Black Lives Matter (@stubbornella) February 9, 2020
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
— Brian Rinaldi (@remotesynth) May 1, 2020
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
When you actually get to the point of building those dynamic features, your site can wind up being dependent on an array of services and APIs. You may be calling a headless CMS for content, a serverless function that calls an API for payment transactions, a service like Algolia for search, and so on. Bringing all those pieces together can be a very complex task. Add to that the fact that each often comes with its own dashboard and API/SDK updates, things get even more complex.

Top Data Scraping Tools
Introduction
Web scraping, web browsing, HTML scraping, and any other method of web data extraction can be difficult. There is a lot of work to be done by getting the right page source and translating the source correctly.
Rendering javascript and getting data in a usable form. Moreover, different users have very different needs. For all of them, there are resources out there, people who want to build uncoded web scrapers, developers who want to build web crawlers to crawl bigger sites, and everything in between.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Instagram for Business — Mike Marko
You’ve probably heard about Instagram and what it can do in marketing a business. And I bet you are now wondering if you should be using Instagram as a social media marketing platform for your business.
A lot of business owners are using this platform because of the advantages it can bring to their business.
Now, maybe you’re thinking of using Instagram too as a social media marketing platform for your business. If you have that thought right now, then you should definitely do it.
When we started marketing online, we didn’t pay Instagram too much attention. We were primarily focused on Facebook because that was what we knew.
Turned out that was a huge mistake.
But before you add Instagram to your marketing plan, let’s talk about both the advantages of Instagram and, of course, the disadvantages of Instagram.
Advantages of Instagram vs Disadvantages of Instagram
Just like any other social networking platforms, there are pros and cons of using Instagram. This shouldn’t be much of a deal because there’s no such thing as “the perfect platform” to market your business.
You just need to plan on how to get the best of using Instagram and avoid the potential problems of its flaws. With that said, it’s important to know the advantages and disadvantages it can bring to your business.
Knowing the advantages and disadvantages can help you better create a marketing plan for your business.
But before we talk about Instagram advantages vs Instagram disadvantages… let me answer the most basic question.
What Is Instagram
Instagram is a social networking app made for sharing photos and videos from a smartphone. It behaves similarly to Facebook or Twitter in that everyone who creates an account has a profile and a news feed.
When you post either a photo or video on Instagram, it will be displayed on your “wall”.
Other users who follow you will see your posts in their own feed. Likewise, you’ll see posts from other users who you choose to follow.
Since it’s similar to Facebook, Instagram also has potential in being a good marketing platform. Do you know why? Take a look at the advantages of Instagram for business.

Advantages of Instagram for Business
Instagram has all the features you need to market a business. That’s the reason why it became one of the most popular social media platforms for marketing a business. Also, using it can bring the following advantages to your business.
Instagram is About Photos
Instagram makes it very easy to post pictures and video from your smartphone.
Posts of images on Instagram remain there forever as long as the user does not remove them.
Instagram Connects You to Your Target Audience
Instagram is the fastest growing social network.
It currently has 800 million monthly active users and over 40 billion shared photos.
A large number of active users on Instagram are uploading 95 million photos every day. The uploaded photos on this platform are getting 4.2 billion likes per day.
Instagram Has High Engagement Rate
Instagram can also give a high engagement rate to your contents due to its large number of active users. In fact, Instagram has the most engaged users compared to other social media platforms.
The engagement rate on Instagram is 70% higher than Facebook. Aside from that, its follower growth is 9% higher than the follower growth on Twitter (at 0.11%).
Instagram Lets You Post Your Contents Easily
Since Instagram is made specifically for smartphones, you can post your contents anytime and anywhere as long as there’s an internet connection.
You can also make your Instagram posts appear on your other social media accounts. To do this, just link your account to your Facebook, Tumblr or Twitter account.
Instagram Gives Visual Representation of Your Business
Instagram is the best platform for visually promoting your brand or products. With that said, posting eye-catching photos of your products can increase your sales.
People tend to engage more on contents with an interesting photo than with plain texts only.
However, you shouldn’t just focus on posting a good image. Your Instagram post should also make use of the description field.
And posts can drive more engagement if it comes with an interesting caption and a relevant hashtag.
Instagram Allows You to Respond Quickly
If you’re marketing your business online, you have to be active in your niche.
Make sure that you’re responding to your audience’s messages and comments. Since Instagram is specifically made for smartphones, you can respond to them easily.
People will more likely trust your brand if you’re connecting with them. It’s important to have two-way communication between you and your target audience. By doing this, your audience is assured in trusting your products and services.
Instagram Can Increase Your Reach
Your posts on Instagram will remain there forever as long as you’re not removing them. That’s why your old posts can still give you a handful of engagement. However, you need to use hashtags if you want this to happen.
All of your Instagram posts can help you increase your reach. Just make sure that your posts are aimed and visible to your target audience. When used properly, hashtags can be a powerful way to increase the visibility of your posts.
You can use a lot more hashtags in Instagram posts compare to Twitter, and still be free of penalties like that of Twitter.
Disadvantages of Instagram for Business
Probably the first Instagram disadvantage that comes to mind is that Instagram isn’t a platform that just focuses on businesses. Usually, people are using Instagram to pass time and connect with other people. There’s only a small percentage of users who have the intention of buying something they see on their feed.
With that said, using Instagram as the only platform to market your business leads to the following additional disadvantages.
The Biggest Advantage is its Disadvantage
The main advantage of Instagram can also be its biggest disadvantage: it relies on images. That means you need to be very mindful of the images you post because it’s the image that will attract followers.
Poor pictures will have people that follow you skip your page in their feed and not read the messages in your description.
Instagram pictures need to be square to be the most effective. Loading non-square images will cause parts of the images to not show in the feed. That means your message or branding can look sloppy because not all the words, etc, may be shown.
Not Everyone Is on Instagram
This is one of the most obvious disadvantages of Instagram, Instagram is only an iPhone and Android app. If you have a Blackberry or Linux it won’t work. That means you won’t actually reach your target audience.
That‘s why it’s advisable to use other social networking platforms to increase brand awareness. Fortunately, Facebook owns Instagram, and their integrated marketing platform makes it easy to reach a larger audience.
Limitations on Your Contents
On Instagram, you can’t further explain the product in your post. You’re only allowed to upload a video that’s 60 seconds long (note that this was recently changed to 60 minutes). Also, the ideal length of captions on Instagram is 138-150 characters. For advertisements, the ideal length of the caption is 125 Characters.
If you’re planning to use multiple hashtags, it’s advisable to use just 5 to 10. Using too many hashtags may result in getting your account banned.
Advertising Is More Difficult
It’s more difficult to target local markets on Instagram compared to Facebook or Twitter. Instagram has fewer options in narrowing down your target audience. Also, you will be forced to rely on organic traffic.
Large businesses can only afford the advertisement on this platform. The average CPC on Instagram is around $0.50 – $1.00.
Final Thoughts on the Advantages and Disadvantages of Instagram
Instagram is a tool you need to at least consider for your online marketing needs. This platform can help in increasing engagement rate, connecting with your target audience, and communicating with your niche.
But even if you’re getting the advantages of Instagram, you shouldn’t heavily rely on it. There are still disadvantages of marketing on this platform.
Despite the disadvantages of Instagram that are mentioned above, Instagram is still one of the best platforms to market. Just study how you can effectively use its features to boost every aspect of your business.

Experiencing a sort of despair today.
Finally got to pay for the last month of the internship. Which was good, because August was really shitty for my mother’s company and we actually ran out of cash at this point (including the savings from the previous two months of the internship - having to buy the comp on credit).
Bad side is that it’s the last real income I had for I don’t know how long. I need to try to get another internship so that I could finish learning and start trying to get commissions at some point.
It’s not that bad because now my mother has a lot of work (part of the problems in August were due to clerks going on vacations and not giving enough commissions) for next month or two. Then, the scary part of the year with trying to get new contracts will start D: .
Anyway, got 1/5 of the stipend for myself. The rest will go for current living. I was agonizing what to buy. There’s so much things I want, like books and stuff and it’s very hard to decide. It’s the last time in a very long time I’ll have this kind of money.
Eventually, I decided to donate 1/4 of it to a person in need and finally bought myself I Am Providence: The Life and Times of H. P. Lovecraft (UNABRIDGED) which I was considering buying since the first month of the course/internship. I was actually planning to buy Wh40k: Kill Team miniatures wargame to try to network with people at store because apparently networking is important for a freelancer, but first, I find it very hard to interact with new people in such environment and second, I just don’t have energy to glue together and paint all the miniatures too.
It made me feel somewhat better. Like trying to make a difference for someone. I think it feels somewhat better than buying anything. Especially that I have so many unread books. I have trouble reading lately. Even can’t get to read action books that usually are easy to read. Also, too many war-themed books. I’m getting into that area of obsession with military to the point of exhaustion. So, getting to read about a writer may help.
All the events of the last few weeks - ending internship, having to edit my blogs due to new rules, losing the old computer, etc. have seriously shook me up.
Also waiting for items for unpredictable amounts of time and worrying in what state they will arrive just adds suffering. I miss 2008-2011 when I could order stuff from England and have it arrive intact within one week :( . I mean, I used to collect boxed games from 80s and 90s back then. If the postal services would work like now, they’d arrive mangled in up to a month half of the time.
It boosted my morale significantly, even managed to take a shower today - I’m usually too exhausted to do it before going to sleep last few months.
Generally, last days were full of disappointments. I tried running some games I have - mainly Unity engine games on the new comp and they are still choppy as hell, barely playable and frustrating to play. I know that for some people it happens even on newest hardware. It’s because the Unity engine has horrible performance problems.
Tried ArmA 2 too to see if I will finally be able to play it normally. Well, it works normally on lowest detail setting which looks horrible and on all other it has like 10-20fps. What? The processor I got wasn’t even released when the game came out, graphics card, is, like, few years newer too. It’s pure bullshit!
But ArmA series are another one which are infamous for stuff like that.
I can’t get my scanner to work on the new Linux Mint release I installed, so I can’t scan my works, which sucks.
Windows 10 is horrible. The interface is obnoxious and constant demands for various stuff are creepy. Reminds me why I stopped using Windows after Windows 98.
I can’t help an impression that the world is turning to shit. More and more stuff is becoming so lousy....
Postal services, operation systems, the flood of Chinese-made crap reeking of chemicals, even if its designed to be in contact with body/food. All these noisy anti-social new neightours moving in during last 4 years...
Kinda sucks to know it was just temporary - for last 3 months and now I’m without even a minimal wage again.
Sucks even more to know that I should have been making, like, 3x more since at least 2009 and it was all stolen from me by the society through process of psychological liquidation.
I should have finished high school in 2003, then should have started studying computer science in 2003 and get engineering degree in 2007 and major in 2009.
It all belonged to me. It still rightfully belongs to me. The truth is victims of psychological liquidation (abuse leading to loss of mental health) must receive awesome compensations and high quality help in recovery from the society and disabled (even partially - like in becoming a burger flipper instead of engineer) victims of psychological liquidation must also receive generous disability pensions based on native IQ.
Should have been getting disability pension of 3x minimal wage at least since 2009, perhaps even earlier and more by now. It’s all money stolen from me by the justice-hating traitor society.
I got through the HTML/CSS course, but I’m still far from getting anywhere, I’m still disabled and barely functioning. And wouldn’t be able to get and keep a job. Actually ended in hospital and on two week sick leave during the last month of the internship.
My life just feels cursed.
Can’t really say how I feel about all that stuff due to the new anti-free speech rules on this site. I need to go to sleep because it’s morning and I’m very tired.
I still need to do the two last projects for the Responsive Web Design Certification (300 hours) course on freeCodeCamp to get it wrapped up. Then I don’t know what.
