the thing abt dean saying "I'm the one that's been with [dad] every single day for the past two years" in 1x03 is that.....he's lying. he's literally lying. we know this bc in the pilot he says he was working his own case in new orleans ("i'm 26 dude") and just the fact that dean is so in the dark abt everything surrounding the hunt for azazel bc john was primarily doing that on his own. and it's this moment of guilt mixed with resentment and overcompensating. dean feels guilty that he wasn't there with john because maybe if he had been he would've been able to help and john wouldn't be missing now, alongside a little bit of resentment for sam leaving them. sam got to go off to college while dean was left feeling obligated to stick by john. and then there's the overcompensation, feeling like he has to play up his role, the dutiful son. the one who never left. i was always there, where were you? but the thing is, dean and john weren't the perfect little team sam thought they were. they parted ways. they worked separate cases. dean wasn't there. john starts visiting 12 yr old adam the year sam leaves for stanford. dean is alone for long gaps of time during stanford era. when john goes missing the thing that tips dean off isn't that he actually "hasn't been home in a few days", it's the weird phone call he gets from john. they haven't seen each other in a while, he hasn't been with him every day for the past 2 years, and dean feels guilty about it.

shocker i'm thinking about jj maybank again
moving into season 3 which is apparently gonna focus more on mental health for all the pogues, but definitely for JJ as he tries to navigate Kie having feelings for him, i'm just thinking a lot about how he receives and shows love throughout the show so far.
he loves the pogues so fucking much and he shows it often and in a couple different ways. he expresses a lot of it through touches (which fucking breaks my heart considering the abuse that he's suffered), and a bit less so through words of affirmation (i will never forget the time that he told John B that he loved him in 1x10 and then John B didn't say it back), but the love language i'm most interested in is acts of service.
JJ is always throwing himself in the line of fire and coming up with plans and jumping into the fray and doing risky shit to try to help the pogues, even if they don't see it as being very helpful sometimes.
he pulls the gun on Topper in 1x01, he steps up and kills the rooster (rip) to protect the pogues' hiding spot in 1x02, he saves Pope from the dog in 1x03, he takes the fall for Pope in 1x04, he takes the money from Barry in 1x07 partially to act as reparations for him traumatizing the pogues by holding them at gunpoint, he gets the Phantom for John B in 1x10 despite having to suffer through another Luke encounter, he's ready to get into a shootout with the cops in 2x04 to protect John B, literally the entirety of 2x05, he consistently places himself between various pogues and people that are trying to hurt them (Barry, Rafe, Renfield, Eberhimi), do i need to go on????
he clearly shows a lot of his love through action, and i can't stop thinking about how it feels like maybe he's so outward with that expression because he's constantly trying to prove his worth to the pogues. not because they ever make him feel like he needs to, but because he genuinely cannot understand why anyone would love him unconditionally. he has to feel like he's earned it somehow. so he's always the first to put himself in danger for them, he's always got a plan at the ready, he's so depressingly willing to ruin his life or even throw it away altogether to keep them safe.
there's a moment in 2x10 when John B and Pope are trying to get JJ to stay in the container with Kie while they go out onto the ship and scout for the cross and try to get weapons from the armory. and JJ is so fucking offended and annoyed, he even rips his arm away from John B as he's pulling him away from the window. and yes, maybe you can just say that it's because he's hot-headed and eager for action, which are both definitely true, but why is he so eager for this action in particular? because it's another way for him to prove his usefulness in the group, to prove that he deserves their love, and John B is taking it away from him. it was JJ's plan to begin with, too, which just makes it sting even more now that he's not gonna be able to execute it. it's definitely a blow to his ego and his flimsy self-worth that relies so heavily on performing these acts of service for this friends.
there's an even smaller moment just before that one when Kie initially finds the window and suggests it as their way out of the container, and JJ makes a point to say "what was that about a Swiss army knife not coming in handy?" he had failed to find a way out for his friends, so he overcompensates by making sure that they know that he's still useful because he has the tool to actually get the panel off of the window and allow them to use it as an escape route.
so what does all this mean for season 3??? it means i'm gonna die it means that i'm gonna need to see Kie using acts of service as at least one of the methods of expressing her affection for him. physical touch and words of affirmation, too, but i really think that those actions are gonna hit JJ the hardest because he's so used to doing them for other people. and he will absolutely spiral if Kie's suddenly doing them for him cause he'll know exactly what it means. she'll be speaking his language. and it'll just freak him out all the more cause it'll reinforce that she really does know him so well, just like how well he knows her.
#yes i'm still emo#no i will not be stopping anytime soon#i could truly think about jj's character for days on end and never get tired of it#i can't even express how excited i am to have 10 hours of new content to analyze the ever loving shit out of#especially if a lot of it is gonna be angsty#expect many more ramblings#jj maybank#obx#obx season 3#obx s3#jiara

At this point do you think S3 is still salvageable (either in general or Malex in particular)?
I mean personally for me season 3 has not been great thus far.
We've only had 1 minute of Malex interaction in the first 5 episodes. There's only 8 episodes left in the season and I still have no idea how either characters are truly at with each other since neither Michael or Alex are talking/thinking about the other person on screen. Michael's feelings on Maria have still not been resolved or declared dead since his 'I love you' in 2x13. Nor has there been any explanation for him turning down Alex in all of season 2 and choosing Maria over him each time. He's had way more screen time with Maria in the first 5 episodes or talking about Maria with other characters than of Alex so far. No mention at all about Alex's love song this season either. Honestly, I don't know what Chris's whole "we're treating Malex equally to Echo this season" spiel was about but it's evidently a lie. So in terms of Malex, I'm getting pretty discouraged by the lack of romance or passion for this love story that's still continuing be treated unfairly into season 3. The development of their relationship is going at a snails pace (we've gotten one whole minute so far guys) and though I do think they'll end up together this season, it may very likely be in the last 5 minutes at this rate.
As a season as a whole so far, season 3 is disappointing to me. Having a narrative of redeeming a white supremacist who's been the major assaulter of the Ortecho family and having Rosa befriend him and even feel sorry for him? Disgusting. It's unacceptable. Then we have Maria Deluca, the character who I needed the most closure from on her f*cked up actions in season 2, continuing to not be called out on her behavior or actions and has been written to be the center focus of most of the storylines this season as the "hero" when she is not the main character, Liz Ortecho is. We're finally seeing some character development this season but Maria Deluca still hasn't had any and that's a real problem for me moving forward because I'm only giving season 3 a shot in order to get closure on the homophobic writing in season 2, which Maria's character was heavily involved in. Alex (so far) is still propping Maria up when her actions negatively affected him the most and I'm not here to watch a gay character continue to put a straight character before themselves anymore. And in terms of representation, Alex's disabilities are still continued to be erased on this show.
Is there fun alien stuff? Yes. Is that enough for this show to stand on? No. It's a show about relationships, drama and romance. And right now it's trying to overcompensate with the drama with having multiple storylines going on at once with the racist attacks, Jones, Maria's brain melting, mystery death and Deep Sky. What about the relationships? The romance? The whole reason why many of us are still continuing to watch this terrible show? There's no breathing room with the constant drama being non-stop.
Do I think it can be salvageable? Maybe. We only have 8 episodes left and considering the plotlines they keep piling on, I'm not sure how much time is going to be left in the episodes for the characters to finally get to build these relationships back up, especially for Malex since they haven't been together since 1x03 and they have a LOT of emotional weight to unburden. I guess we'll have to wait and see nonnie.

Once Upon a Time 1x05 “That Still Small Voice” Review
Review 1x01 1x02 1x03 1x04
This is another filler-type episode for me. Jiminy/Archie is just not that interesting to have a whole episode revolve around him. The only purpose for this episode is to basically show that Emma is changing things in Storybrooke, and that Regina is losing her control over the curse. I get that we, as an audience, need to see little things moving forward, but I was so bored during this episode.
Synopsis:
Emma becomes a deputy in Storybrooke just as a cave in happens at the old mines. When Regina says she wants to pave it over, Henry is determined to go into the mines to find out what she is hiding, essentially trapping himself and Dr. Archie Hopper inside. In the EF, we find out the origins of Jiminy, before he became a cricket (because apparently he wasn’t always a cricket).
Opening:
A spinning wheel
Character Observations:
Jiminy/Archie: Jiminy is basically a coward. He doesn’t want to steal anymore, but he doesn’t really have a choice as a child because that is what his parents force him to do. But once he is an adult, for some reason he can’t bring himself to leave his parents. I don’t know if he has some actual affection towards them or he just has no other marketable skills and doesn’t know what he would do, but he’s scared to leave what he is familiar with. Instead, he decides to make a deal with Rumplestiltskin of all people. What did he plan to do once his parents were out of the way and why did he feel he needed to do something drastic in order to be free of them? They were pretty lazy people. They kept the same puppet act for years, in the same traveling show, and also used the same Elf Tonic routine. I really doubt they would have gone looking for Jiminy if he had left. Once Jiminy realizes the error of his ways, when a perfectly nice couple gets turned into a pair of horridly grotesque puppets, he wishes to become a cricket because they are free. Um, okay. And he is also tasked with being the conscience to a small boy, who turns out to be Geppetto, future father to Pinocchio.
Archie is also a coward because he can’t stand up to Regina. To be fair, he is threatened about his job by her, but as a therapist, he’s treating Henry in a completely unethical way. He is desperate to figure out why Henry is so entrenched in his fantasy world and why he believes he could be Jiminy Cricket. He certainly is not feeling like his conscience is winning out, especially when he resorts to threatening Henry with being locked in a mental facility if he continues to believe in the fairytale fantasy. Throughout the cave-in ordeal, Henry’s confession that ‘there has to be more than this’, and the fact that he almost dies, pushes Archie to finally take the moral ground and stand up to Regina. Of course, he also threatens her that if a custody battle were to happen, he would not be siding with Henry’s adoptive mother, but with Emma.
Regina: She is losing more and more control and doesn’t know how to handle it. In this episode she has resorted to trying to control Henry, the one thing she has never had any real control over, by making Archie crush his storybook ‘fantasy’. Regina is thinking only of self-preservation at this point. She shows no signs of caring for Henry. Even when Henry goes down into the mines and gets trapped, does she really care about Henry’s safety or does she just not want him to find proof that his fairytale theory is real? She also blames Emma for everything, because, of course, Henry had no issues before Emma arrived. But we also see some vulnerability concerning Henry. Is it possible that Regina actually does care for him? She even concedes her authority to Emma in rescuing Henry. Of course, once Emma saves Henry, Regina’s vulnerability is gone and she is back to being Queen Bitch Supreme. Fortunately, Archie puts her in her place by basically telling her that Emma has his vote for being a better mother than Regina.
Henry: He actually gets something to do in this episode! It may be idiotic and stupid, but he does something. Archie is starting to question him about why he wants the curse to be real so badly. Henry doesn’t originally have an answer for him. But later he tells Archie it’s because this can’t be all there is. That...doesn’t seem like a valid argument. That just seems like a child wishing for something more and projecting his fantasy on his friends and neighbors. If we didn’t already know that he is correct, I’d think he was overcompensating for the lack of love from Regina. Henry is also really challenging Regina’s authority in this episode. Not that he hasn’t before, but this time he risks his life to do it. He sees Regina put something in his pocket and resolves to figure out what it is. He also finds a piece of glass in the tunnels that he’s convinced is something that will prove he is not crazy, as Archie has been telling him he is on Regina’s orders. By the end of the episode the only thing really resolved with Henry is that Archie is no longer implying to Henry he’s crazy, and he notices that the crickets are back.
Emma: She is starting at the deputy’s office and the second she puts on her deputy’s badge the mines collapse, showing that the more she puts down roots the more the curse starts breaking down. Regina again talks down to her when she and Graham go to help at the mines, but stands her ground when letting Regina know she works for the town now. Emma also confronts Archie about his treatment of Henry, since Archie was the one to tell her to believe in Henry’s fantasy. She also confronts Regina over the phone when she tells her Henry is missing. Emma gets the chance to help Henry by saving him and Archie from the falling elevator, but is then immediately rebuffed by Regina and only acknowledged as the deputy who helped save Henry instead of as his mother. Emma is doing her best, she is attempting to put down roots, not only to prove Regina wrong, but to change herself in the process. She knows that Regina’s feelings towards Henry are lukewarm at best, and believes that Henry’s fairytale fantasy is a result of not feeling loved. She wants to make sure he is happy and right now, being there for him is what will make him happy.
Mary Margaret/David/Kathryn: I’m putting these three together because all their stories intertwined. Mary Margaret and David are spending a lot of time together. Mary Margaret is still volunteering at the hospital but spending most of her time entertaining David. It is obvious they both have feelings for each other, despite David being married to Kathryn. David still has no memory of his life. He tells Mary Margaret that he’s been lying to Kathryn about any memories he has said he has had to make her feel better. David tells Mary Margaret that nothing feels real, that she is the only thing that feels real and right. Mary Margaret, is of course happy about this, but at the same time, realizes that just because he doesn’t remember being married doesn’t mean he’s available. Kathryn, to her credit, is either oblivious to the fact that David has feelings towards Mary Margaret, or is banking on David’s memories coming back soon and then his feelings for Mary Margaret will be moot. Although, from the way she spoke of their marriage before his ‘accident’, it didn’t sound like they were in a good place, especially if he was in a coma for however long she thinks he was gone and she never reported him missing because they’d been fighting. By the end Mary Margaret has decided to resign from volunteering at the hospital because it is too painful to see the guy she likes with his wife.
Questions:
Why are there no crickets in Storybrooke? Did Regina hate Jiminy Cricket so much that she just banned all crickets? Was she afraid if the people heard crickets they’d remember something from the Enchanted Forest?
How exactly did several pieces of glass from Snow White’s coffin, which seemed to be miles below ground, make its way above ground for Regina and Henry to find?
Does Rumplestiltskin just like to spin straw into gold for fun? Is it soothing? Does he always give it out as payments for whatever people do for him?
Do Jiminy’s parents work for Rumplestiltskin? Why is Jiminy giving him the stuff they pickpocketed and how do they have those peoples names? What is Rumplestiltskin doing with this stuff?
Where was young Geppetto during dinner? Did it really take him hours to gather, what I’m assuming is water? Would his parents have had dinner without their child just because guests came over?
What did Rumplestiltskin want with the people turned puppets?
Why is Snow’s glass coffin in the mines? Did Regina bring other items over in the mines? Is that why she wants to collapse it and pave it over?
How long do magical crickets live for? Jiminy was supposed to be, what, mid-20s when he was turned into a cricket and Geppetto was about 9-10. He’s been a cricket for the past 40-50 years?
Observations:
Jiminy was human before he was turned into a cricket, and then he was turned back into a human when the curse hit.
The mines collapse immediately when Emma puts the deputy badge on.
According to Henry, Jiminy Cricket and Geppetto are best friends.
Archie’s dog is named Pongo, the name of the dog from 101 Dalmations.
The mines cave in more when Henry finds a shard of glass, most likely from Snow’s coffin.
Jiminy’s parents, besides picking pockets, also sell Elf Tonic (rainwater) to unsuspecting people.
David still has amnesia but feels a strong connection to Mary Margaret.
I’m pretty sure the Blue Fairy turned Jiminy into a grasshopper and not a cricket. Look at the pictures below.
Cricket

Grasshopper

Jiminy

All in all, not too impressed with this episode. Young Geppetto basically beat us over the head with his talk about crickets and giving Jiminy his signature umbrella. I feel as though this was just one of those episodes that just beats the ‘moral’ into us, no matter how much it doesn’t fit in with what is going on in the story. This was basically a filler episode that really didn’t move much plot forward and gave us the background on a character that, so far, hasn’t seemed that crucial to the audience.
As usual feedback is welcome. Please let me know your thoughts about anything and please reblog!!!

SPN 2x11: “Playthings”
A girl named Tyler? That is so cool.
That doll house replica of the hotel is pretty awesome.
AND UGH THAT IS GRUESOME.
RIP Mover guy.
Sam’s still looking for Ava.
Shut up, Dean.
Yeah, thank you.
“So I’m not giving up on her, but I’m not going to let other people die either. We’ve got to save as many people as we can.” Y’all mind if I SCREAM ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE SAM WINCHESTER
“Wow. That attitude is just way too healthy for me, and I’m officially uncomfortable now. Thank you.” lmao, I’d also like to humbly proclaim my love for this little shithead.
That hotel is beautiful.
SCOOBY DOO REFERENCE
Oh we know you love Daphne, Dean. We freaking know.
A quincunx, used in hoodoo spellwork.
Mistaken for a couple again, LMAO. Should’ve seen that coming when she asked them if they were antiquing.
Wonder which vice-presidents stayed here?
The dress on the wall is...a thing.
“Of course, the most troubling question is why do these people assume we’re gay?”
“Well, you are kind butch. Probably think you’re overcompensating.”
Sam came up with that answer WAY TOO FAST, he already knows/suspects.
Dean in a henley tho.
“Are those antique dolls? Because this one, this one here, he’s got a major doll collection back home. Dontcha?” Dean throwing Sam under the bus, what an asshole. I love him
The most unconvincing “it’s true” ever.
Grandma Rose, our first suspect.
Demolishing the hotel would be a shame, it is beautiful...in a somewhat creepy way.
RIP Lawyer guy.
Drunk Sam?
Drunk Sam!
Awww honey, that’s not your fault in any way.
I love Drunk!Sam, even when it turned real sad, real quick.
“Yeah well, Dad’s an ass.He never should have said anything. I mean, you don’t do that, you don’t, you don’t lay that kind of crap on your kids.” EXACTLY.
Ok, now get your drunk ass to bed, Sam.
(lmao @ his sleeping position tho.)
OOOHHH very “the Shining.”
“They’re not happy now?”
“Well, would you be, leaving the only home you ever knew?”
“I don’t know. I never really knew one.”
:( One day, you will.
I can’t remember if Sherwin dies or not, but I sure as hell hope not.
The symbol from earlier. Rose’s nanny is wearing the quincunx as a necklace.
Hungover Sam. Poor sweetie.
“You know there’s a really good hangover remedy- it’s a, it’s a greasy pork sandwich served up in a dirty ashtray.”
“Oh I hate you.”
“I know you do.”
Grandma Rose had a stroke, which has left her disabled. Since hoodoo is hands-on and requires a lot of physical activity, it can’t be Rose behind all this.
“Yeah, what are you gonna do, poke her with a stick?”
*Dean seriously considers this*
“Dude! You’re not gonna poke her with a stick!”
That reveal that Maggie wasn’t actually a person absolutely got me when I first watched this episode.
Yes! Sherwin makes it out alive!
Oh dear.
GET INSIDE SUSAN.
Ayyy Sam!
MOTE: vengeful spirit.
There ya go.
Oh, that is ominous af.
Maggie is Rose’s sister, drowned in the pool.
Sam’s parallel of 1x03.
Tyler’s alive, thank god.
Rose sacrifices herself so Maggie can let Tyler and Susan go.
RIP Grandma Rose.
“There’s nothing to apologize for. You’ve given me everything.”
Awww, Sam got a hug!
GODDAMN IT I KNEW DEAN WOULD JOKE ABOUT THAT.
Sam with that 180 tho
We can’t have a light hearted ending, can we?
BUT WE CAN HAVE A CREEPY ONE, OH MY GOODNESS.

Fic: Deep Breath
Part of the Hope series.
Voltron Legendary Defender fic. Lance-centric.
Summary: Envy is an ugly emotion. Lance hates it. Shooting things helps him deal with it.
Notes: episode coda for 1x03, angst, rivalry, sublimation
Also on Ao3
Lance honestly thought he was getting over hating Keith. Sure they argued and Keith was fun to goad, but they were all part of the same team. They were all paladins with different skills and abilities and they were all important because of their differences. He got the teamwork memo, okay!
So why, after they managed to save the day and make friends with the Arusians and send a bunch of prisoners they rescued back to their homes, did Lance feel like shit?
Why couldn’t he get rid of this dark and ugly envy that clawed at his gut?
(That sneering voice in the back of his head reciting all of Keith’s achievements and the comments from their instructors looking down on Lance, who barely scraped into the program: Lance’s own secret hidden fears asking why he couldn’t be that good, that cool, that special—why can’t you be more like Keith?)
Just … why did Keith get the cool moment and the awesome sword and the save the day praise? Why couldn’t it have been Lance? Why was it always Keith?
(And Lance does know that he’s being stupid, that all of the paladins have bayards with different abilities and maybe when they use their bayard in Voltron they get a cool combo move too, but knowing that doesn’t help how he feels, or the fact that he hates that he’s feeling it at all.)
In retrospect, the training deck probably wasn’t the best place to try and work off his frustration. Keith was always there, practicing, exercising, learning how to fight with his bayard, being awesome. When he got there, Lance was only a little jealous and frustrated and probably would have got over it if he hadn’t walked in and seen the smile on Keith’s face as he easily took down a gladiator with just the flick of his wrist and the swish of his sword.
Keith’s joy at his win and the brief triumphant laugh stoked the tiny flame of resentment in the back of Lance’s mind into an inferno that chased him to Blue’s hanger and, when that wasn’t enough to comfort him, to fly from the castle to find an empty patch of land to scream his frustrations to the wind.
It just wasn’t fair. Keith was already the best pilot and the best fighter and he just kept improving. Lance was never going to catch up.
He looked up at the sky, eyes blurring with tears—from staring at the sun, of course.
Logically, he knew it wasn’t Keith’s fault, how Lance felt, but Lance wanted to blame him anyway.
He could feel Blue reaching out to him, probably reacting to his whirlwind emotional state, but this wasn’t something she could help with. He already knew that he was important to her—the most important to her. She chose him, after all.
She chose him instead of Keith, even after Keith spent a year searching the desert for her, and just then he loved her so much for that.
“I’m sorry,” he said aloud, pushing the sentiment towards her as he flopped onto the ground by her paw and contemplated the smattering of coarse grass beneath him. “I’m trying to get over this. I really am. I just need something to focus on, something that doesn’t remind me of him, of me, of … the mess inside my head.”
Blue was in his head; she probably knew better than even he did what he wanted to escape from. So he really shouldn’t have been surprised by the insistent thought from her regarding his own bayard.
Lance frowned but reached for the weapon anyway. He trusted Blue, trusted that she knew what she was doing. He activated his bayard and considered his weapon.
After all the training they’d done, the energy rifle now felt familiar in his grip. His fingers slipped easily into the grooves on the handle and he cocked his arm to let it rest against his shoulder. It was surprisingly lightweight and easy to maneuver, and Lance probably shouldn’t feel like this about a weapon but he adored it. Even so …
“I don’t think shooting things is going to make me feel better, Blue.”
Blue huffed. Lance grinned at the feeling, recognising his own influence over her.
“Okay, fine.” He clambered to his feet. “I will shoot up the environment, never mind that this planet didn’t do anything to me to deserve it.”
And that was an eye roll. Lance loved Blue and made sure she knew it. She almost seemed to sink into the emotion before returning her focus to Lance and his gun.
It took a moment for Lance to parse what she was communicating.
“Far … distance. You want me to try improving my aim over distance?” He looked down at his weapon with raised eyebrows. “How versatile is this thing? Like, are we talking sniper rifle?”
At Blue’s affirmation, Lance grinned. “So freaking cool.” He pulled his rifle from his shoulder and stabilised the barrel with his left hand. “Okay! Let’s do this!”
Lance looked around. The castle rose high above the sea in the distance behind him. He turned away from the direction of the Arusian village and the nearby forest and set his sights on a rocky outcropping further inland dotted with different coloured rocks and formations of varying sizes. Perfect for target practice.
Blue was quiet in his mind, projecting a steady air of calm.
Lance's grin faded. They still hadn't managed that whole looking through each other's eyes trick yet, but she was still here, helping him as best she could.
“Thanks Blue.” Lance patted her huge paw.
He moved back to where he could see his target, making sure the sun was out of direct sight as he raised his rifle and took aim. He exhaled slowly, like they'd been taught at the Garrison, and squeezed the trigger.
The shot went wide enough to miss everything.
Lance whirled around, hands and rifle held up defensively. “That was just a practice shot!”
But Blue didn’t laugh at him. She just projected that same calm focus at him, urging him to try again.
He did. He overcompensated in the opposite direction and the shot went wide again, but it was closer to the mark than his first and Lance could feel how the two shots were different, where he might make improvements to his aim or position.
Lance felt a deep tingling in his gut, like the anticipatory thrill of staring over the edge of a cliff. He looked to Blue to see her looking back at him.
One more time …
Dust exploded as his shot hit the mark. In the distance, bird-like alien animals squawked and took flight as they escaped the disturbance ringing in the air.
He grinned, knowing the expression was sharp and full of danger and looked up at Blue.
“Practice makes perfect,” he said and his Lion roared in agreement.
Lance turned back to try again.
