[owl] : The only thing the auror asked me isâŚ.. âhow are you still alive ?â
[owl: Jamesikins] I mean I ask myself that all the time.
[owl: Jamesikins] Though that was unbearably rude.
[owl: Jamesikins] Did you hex them at least?

Kill me [insert evil laughter]
This is a Pre-Drabble Note. I'd really hate Karli if I didn't love her so much for making me write this.
It was an easy task, risky but calculated. Infiltrate a known Death Eater hideout, gain intelligence, and return back to Headquarters. There was no plans for dueling or interaction with the other side of any kind. It was reconnaissance, Edgar had said. So simple it could be done with two. Unfortunately, it was realized too late that putting a certain James Potter and Lily Evans on the task would be a mistake. Dumbledore had the habit of keeping them apart on missions like this, mainly because without hesitance, one would defend the other. James would always go out of his way for Lily, and she for him. That was the way they were, and the way they would be. Lily had said it herself. Using the one word that so often came to mind. âAlways." He would always come first to her, and she would always put him ahead of the task of the mission.Â
Before another word could be spoken, the wild red girl and the boy with the glasses apparated to their location. Her hand fit so well in his, and even in the face of danger they remained hand in hand. His back was turned to face her back as they looked around the seemingly dark and abandoned building. Each creak of a floorboard brought a cringe out of fear. Often, the emptiest of places proved the most perilous. " Do you see anything?" Lily whispered, wincing as she stepped down on another loose floorboard.Â
"Not since you asked me a minute ago. Itâs empty, Lils. If thereâs something here, well itâs got to be hidden in plain sight." James retorted, using his wand to light the furthest reaches of the high ceilings, looking for anything that could give them some guidance.
"Well, Dumbledore saidâ" She started, only to hear a loud cracking noise followed by the appearance of three forms.Â
Two were immediately identifiable, but Lily didnât have time to match names to faces. The other figure wasnât recognizable, as he was still wearing a mask to hide his features. A lump rose in Lilyâs throat and her eyes watered. They were outnumbered, standing in front of two exceedingly capable dark wizards. Her green eyes met a femaleâs, seeing the frightening look in the other female. Instinctively and wordlessly, James and Lily raised their wands and prepared for battle. She swore she could have heard a dark chuckle coming from one of the males, but sheâd never know for sure.
It all seemed to happen so slowly. Light, and fire, curses and hexes alike came from the tips of four wands. The sounds of splintering wood from the walls and floors and shouting echoed throughout the battle. It was only then that the figure removed his mask, revealing the previously unidentified male. Severus. He raised his wand, but his face didnât look threatening in any way. Her eyes couldnât leave his face. She knew he was a Death Eater, but she had never imagined him gearing up and spending time with these types of people. Her heart raced, but she realized she didnât have time for reminiscing. Turning her face in the direction of the other woman, Lily aimed and fired a hex, only to see that she had disapparated. Â She turned to face Severus again, her wand raised. There were no words being exchanged between them, and yet their eye contact seemed extremely conversational. She wasnât going to hurt him, she couldnât. But she wasnât going to let him just disappear and act as if this had never happened. Perhaps she could reach out to him, if she tried. Show him that what he was fighting for was only detrimental to the Wizarding World, and to her.
"Lily!" Jamesâ voice rang out, causing the female to turn. The other male was now standing in front of James, approaching her. She knew he was going for the kill, but she was smaller and quicker than he. She fired a curse, hair flying in front of her face. Her vision went fuzzy as she had done it, and she hadnât noticed that her intended target had not been hit. In fact, the boy she had sought out to protect had received the end of her blow. Â She screamed, pointing her wand at the male. He disapparated as well, leaving Lily to run to James. Tears began to flow from her eyes, burning her cheeks. She cradled his head in her lap, hands touching his cheeks. There was no light left in his eyes, no familiar gentleness. No humor or playfulness. There was no life left within him, his chest didnât rise or fall.
"James?" Lily squeaked, hoping that if she asked he would spring to life once again. After no response she repeated his name. Again and again, hoping for a result that would not come. âJames!" She sobbed, her fingers curling around the fabric of his shirt. Â She had killed him. There was no one to blame but herself. Her small body was wracked by sobs, shaking her entire being. Her heart had shattered and seemed to sit right on the ground next to the lifeless body of the boy she had decided she would marry one day. All of those plans flashed through her head. Their plans of having a wedding, buying a house somewhere, having children. James had always said that he wanted two. A boy and a girl, the girl with Jamesâ sense of adventure, and the boy with Lilyâs eyes.Â
"Come back." She sobbed, shaking the lifeless body. âCome back please. Donât leave me, I love you, please donât leave!" She continued, over and over again.
It was at that moment when she realized that she wasnât alone. It wouldnât have mattered if she had died right there, because there felt like no point in living without him. Her heart had been stolen by the boy with the stupid grin and cocky attitude. The boy with the warm heart and unruly hair, whose laugh was contagious. The boy that made it all better. The floorboards creaked and her head shot up. Severus hadnât left. He opened his mouth to say something. âGo." Â She spat bitterly. He tried to interject but another scream left Lilyâs lips.
"LEAVE!"
Severus disapparated as well, leaving Lily with the body of the love of her life. Bending her head, she pressed her forehead lightly to his, her eyes shutting tightly as another sob burst through her. âIâm so sorry. This wasnât supposed to happen. None of it. We were supposed to be happy. We were happy. Please come back, I canât do this without you. Iâm so, so, sorry." She closed his eyes, pretending if only for a moment that he was simply sleeping. Her fingers ran through his hair and she choked back tears. âCome back. It was supposed to be you and me. Always. You and me against the world for always. Through it all."

Marlene McKinnon, what do you have to say for yourself? It's been far too long mate. I know you're busy with your fancy Auror training, but try to make time for the little people, yeah? Maybe we can go out for a cuppa - or better yet, head to the pub, for old time's sake? Send me an owl once in while. Yours, James Potter
James,
According to my instructors I still have too much to say for myself, would you believe one of them called me mouthy? Are you feeling okay? I never thought I'd see the day you'd call yourself little. Well if you wanted to worry me you've succeeded and of course now I must see you to make sure you haven't been body-snatched. We do need to catch up, how about tomorrow when I get out of training?Â

Only if youâre okay dating a red head, which I suspect you are. - Marlene

[OWL] I don't believe in bullying, except for when it comes to Slytherins. But I liked you before the baby drama so I still like you now. You're gonna keep it?
Thank you, James. I still consider you to be my friend, as well.
I donât know.

â a fear that my character has in dealing with yours
â and I will give you a fear that my character has in dealing with yours
Lily's biggest fear when it comes to James is losing him, or being in a place where she is helpless and cannot save or help him.

[OWL] So? You're still Quinn to me. Isn't going to change anything. I've heard that they're pretty affective. Don't know how they work though.
Youâre one of the more accepting people of the castle, so I definitely appreciate the sentiment. I heard that they werenât full-proof, but I donât really know much about them other than that.

[OWL] Why would I judge you? You had sex and the condom broke or whatever happened. I don't think you should judge someone for wanting to have sex.
Iâm the president of Hogwartsâ Celibacy Club, James.
We didnât use those things, James. Iâm not the biggest fan of using muggle methods to prevent pregnancy when Iâm not altogether certain that they would work.
He told me that he was going to cast a Contraceptive Charm and we were both incredibly inebriated so I suppose he forgot. I guess that doesnât matter in the grand scheme of things now, does it?

[OWL] So uhm, hi! I just wanted to say that if you ever need something, you can always ask my help or talk to me. I want you to know that you're not alone and I'm not judging you.
Thank you, James.
I doubt that youâre not judging me but Iâm appreciative of the fact that youâre being supportive. It does mean a lot to me.
