Hello! If you don't mind me asking, how do you achieve/keep the vibrancy of colors in your illustrations?

I've been studying your art a lot and your colors always stand out to me because blending and painting digitally tends to result in muddier colors (normally in trad painting yellow & blue would result in green but due to how art programs work, blending yellow & blue would just result in a more desaturated version of one of the colors overlaying on top of the other) so I was wondering if you have any tips or advice on how to avoid that :0

i tend to use one inking brush (ciro pen) for sketch/ink/paint, so i usually just flat color and then draw in shades at lighter opacity, then color pick where it overlaps with the base shade, paint over again, rinse repeat... like using a blending brush with more steps i guess lol

some art programs (csp and i think kritia, maybe??) have improved color mixing! i haven't messed with any options myself but i just tried mixing yellow + blue and it caught the green tones pretty well, both with the method i described + using the default oil paint brush. todays sample picture features loml venti:

i think i tend to use pretty desaturated colors as a whole with not a lot of varience throughout an entire piece, then i'll add something neon/saturated later as an accent, so i think that might help control the "muddy" feeling as well

i think it'd probably be helpful to study color theory too, because the way your eye perceives vibrancy of colors is greatly affected by the saturation and value of the adjacent colors you use...!!

What brushes do you use?? I love the one you use to sketch

the pastel/charcoal brush yes? it's #1 on here but here's all the other i tend to use lately

Blockaded Chalk Brush - (10 clippy points) im a one brush to rule them all kinda person so i use this for everything from sketch to rendering. you need good pressure and layer control to use it for blending and to carve out different values just using one color

YN Stripes - (20 clippy points) i like comb brush blending, its a remnant of dragon age artstyle days. basically for soft transitions and to give texture

Intoxicate Pencil Set - (free) very natural looking pencil brush, just as messy as the real thing

Smooth Liner - (free) usual lineart brush. i can use this to mimic traditionally inked lines for digital corrections and additions

Bear watercolor brush - (10 clippy) realistic watercolor brush and new bestfriend

Line drawing pen - (thank you for finding the asset moonpaw my light and savior) basically its a feathery but sharp edged hard pen. i combine this with the watercolor brush to make it look like a messy gouache

I think ?? au rambling time yeah cause i can i think if i loosely connected this to canon theyd still meet custard the same way its just theres some odd connection thing pv feels to custard without knowing it?? Ike oh wow that kids so familiar

I think personally custard doesnt notice it, ok hes still got his kingly attitude for those curious, i think he doesnt change much from canon other then design, i think the thing that DOES diverge from canon r how some cookies treat him (you can see this in the vanilla orchids that surround him, some asleep but the closest peeking at him in curiousity, reminiscence?? I DONT KNOW! As my math teacher says life is a matter of choice and its your choice on what you wanna use... well see in this case

I think he'd be a bit more softhearted here though, like more obvious with it i mean, cause i imagine he had a bit of time with purelily enough to know the things they taught him but not enough to completely remember their faces soo..

Dont ask me how he was born im still figuring that out, this au is just basically a combined mush of all the info i loved from all the custard aus i liked and decided to mash together to make my own!! Anyways enough yapping byebye

holy shit one of these watercolor dot card samples is a magenta wine color that i noticed fades to a slight blue/blue purple. Like a bruise. but i couldnt figure out the Requirements to get that underlying color to show up since just adding more water or lifting color didnt seem to work. Accidentally swiped my finger over a wet stroke and it showed. Purposefully pressed my thumb against it and it peeked through. Like. A bruise.
