I have so much to share but highlights today waiting in the hot ass sun for tasting spots in two different bourbon panels today but totally worth it! Pappy 15 and hearing the backstory on the brand from the family was awesome! Another tasting panel included masters of maturation from @michterswhiskey and @makersmark as well as director over the wood for Brown-Foreman. We had the pleasure of sampling a new Maker’s that has only been tried by the production crews. It doesn’t even have a label yet part of their oaks series that is 108.2 proof. Was actually very nice! I really enjoyed the Michter’s Toasted Barrell sour mash which is 86 proof. Also walked away with some extra goodies they handed out at the end. #sundayfunday and it get a lot of questions on how I do my #whiskypairing meals and to be honest I wing it most of the time, because great food and great #whiskies work so well together. #japanesewhisky primarily their #singlemalt are so delicate and punchy that it’s a no brainer with #sushi, but also any seafood dish provided it’s not spicy. I find spicy food is better with #bourbon whiskey, the sweetness and vanilla notes takes a bite out of the spicy food. Some people use water to open up their #whiskydrinking I like to use food to do that. This little #sushitime🍣 feast from #harneysushi did not last long and that #spicysalmon hand roll on the left with a pour of #pappyvanwinkle 15 was so on the money. #whiskeywednesday and with #quarantineandchill I definitely went into my #whiskeystash harder then normal. This is the longest I have not travelled in about 5 years. #michterswhiskey as you see and know has my #whiskeyheart for sure, BUT I did venture out during this time and try some others. At the end of the day I love #barrelaged whiskey, the longer the better. #throwbackthursday to a trip to #orlandoflorida a year ago and staying at at #Hilton hotel not expecting much in the #whiskey department. Boy was I wrong, they had the 2018 #michters 20 year old unopened, and #pappyvanwinkle 15 year. I of course had to pop that #michters20 even though I wanted to just buy the whole bottle but wifey said don’t be a #dicky other people want some too 🤪. #thursdaythoughts and secondary pricing on #bourbonwhiskey is not normal. I say that because a few hundred dollar bottle of #pappyvanwinkle turns into a few thousand dollars all day long BUT there is not many #bourbons that are priced like that normally. Case in point from the #scotchwhisky world, #macallaneditionno1 was under $100 when it came out, now it’s around $800. For $900 you can buy a #highlandpark 30 year old as that is close to its everyday price. Plenty of other well aged scotch whiskys in that high end range everyday that sit on shelf. Bourbon on the other hand does have many aged bourbons on shelf north of 10 years, so in the #whiskey world the secondary has gone nuts. Case in point too is the pricing on the #willett bourbons lately, they have gone into bodypart money recently commanding many thousands just like the #pappys, the MSRP is low hundreds on them. The #whiskeydistillery companies are leaving so much money on the table putting out their aged whiskeys for so cheap, to have liquor stores and secondary market make all the money. Point here is when I see someone say they would not buy a #pappyvanwinkle23 at that secondary price because for that money there is better whiskey in that price range, I think, what 23 year old bourbon whiskey is sitting on the shelf right now priced at $2000 MSRP?
