Answers || Hazel + Wade
It hadn't been like Wade to go off the radar for days at a time. Not since they'd gotten together. So when Hazel didn't hear from him for a few days after his initial text, she knew that something was up. Though, she hadn't anticipated Reina showing up on her doorstep. One whirlwind flight later and she found herself standing in front of a run-down motel in North Carolina - still a little fuzzy on the details that had brought her here in the first place. Hazel and Reina eventually parted ways, leaving Hazel standing in front of what she hoped was her boyfriend's hotel room. The last few hours had passed in such a haze, it was only as Hazel stood in front of that door that she started to feel quite uneasy. What was so urgent and disturbing that Wade and his brother needed to skip town and hide out here? Hazel knocked, waiting with baited breath to see if he was even in. Her knock went unanswered, but upon turning the knob she realised it was unlocked.
Without even waiting for so much as a greeting, Hazel pushed the door open, stepping into the tiny motel room. Hazel didn’t know how Wade was going to react to her presence. Though, this was different to anything else she’d done. This wasn’t like following him to a fight. It was about looking out for someone she cared for immensely. Shutting the door behind her, she turned to face him for the first time. What she saw instead completely shattered her heart. Wade sat, passed out in an armchair- bottle of whiskey in hand. The entire room reeked of alcohol. She could see the mini-bar had been emptied entirely - empty cans and glasses littered across the floor. How much had he had to drink? She knew he enjoyed his whiskey but this... this was new to her. She crossed the room, reaching over to brush the hair from his eyes. “God, what is going on?” She mumbled, shaking her head. Her only worry now was his well-being. Every other question fell to the wayside... a million thoughts swirled in her mind, questions that only he knew the answer to. “C’mon...” She gently ushered the very-drunk Wade to his feet. He seemed not to even register her presence. She moved an arm around his shoulders, lifting him up the same way she had done in the alley that night. In all their time together, this was the worst she’d seen him since that night. It would’ve been easier to go and get Kieran or Reina, but she knew deep down that this wasn’t something Wade wanted people to see. Taking his full weight, she managed to get him from the chair to the bed. It was the only thing she could allow herself to even concentrate on.
All of this brought back once-distant memories of lived nightmares.... of nursing loved ones through overdoses. Here Wade was. Clearly, in so much pain... and all she could do was put a pillow beneath his head and take off his shoes. Was this something she’d missed? Had he been asking for help only for her to miss it? They’d been in a good place, or so she thought - why hadn’t he been able to come to her? Hundreds of such questions began to overrun her, forcing her to lie down on the bed next to him. The jetlag and the high-emotion of it all were beginning to make her drowsy. She just needed to shut her eyes for a quick second..
