Confessions of a Pathological Liar

The first lie is the hardest. It’s like the very first hesitant drop of blood seeking freedom from a fresh wound. But, its brilliant red is breathtaking and mesmerizing. From there, the lies come easier and easier until they are a torrent of crimson gushing from your mouth. After no time at all the lies come more naturally than the truth, and you find yourself in situations where you can’t remember where a story begins and where the truth ends. It all mixes together in your brain, becoming muddled and chaotic. And you live like that for years, sometimes unaware that the words spilling from your wound of a mouth are not just harming you but harming those around you. It isn’t until your best friend looks at you with the most sincere eyes and tells you that she can’t trust you that you realize. It isn’t until your mother questions the integrity of your smallest action that you begin to see. It isn’t until your brother calls you out for hiding behind your words and hiding from the truth that you decide. The lies that you have been weaving need to be torn down and destroyed.

But you’re afraid of what you will see in the mirror when those lies are gone and the blood is washed away. You have become so used to seeing a foul monster in the mirror that you forget what you look like underneath it all. However, it is time. It is time to face yourself and be brave. It is time to admit to your best friend that, no, you are not okay and you need help. It is time to tell your mother that your actions have been caused by her lack of trust and understanding. It is time to admit to your brother that you can’t sleep at night because you are paralyzed by such evil thoughts that you can’t help but imagine what it would be like to make it all just go away. It is time to admit to yourself that the lies do nothing but delay the inevitable. It is time to stop the bleeding, wash away the red, and tell the damn truth.

What I hate more that compulsive liars are pathological liars. I, myself, am a compulsive liar but using lies to hurt others and gain some kind of confidence in your shitty self is worse than using lies for shits and giggles as you say. I hate that behaviour more than anything else (Scorpio Sun, y'all, I don't believe people for shit) and it hurts me so much seeing it in my closest friends. Why do I only surround myself with people who deepen my self-consciousness and anxiety...
