One thing that fascinates me is that there are no true villains in the dolls of new albion. Apart maybe from Edgar, who was profiting off of his mother's discovery and emotionally blackmailed the woman he supposedly loves, but I don't think any of the other McAlistairs we meet were evil. They were just extremely selfish and broken individuals.

Annabel was a lonely woman who didn't get any love from her family, and was pushed into isolation to focus on her intellect. And thus she tries to find solace into one person she knew a long tìme ago. But once she learns that her actions hurt the person she supposedely loved (I don't think she truly loved Jasper, she just wanted someone to love her), she does the right thing and euthanizes him. But her pride didn't let her destroy her notes, which in turn became the catalyst för all that had transpired. She wasn't a bad person, she was just broken and selfish.

Which cannot be said about her son Edgar, who deliberately destroyed the life of an innocent man för perceived humiliation. And just like his mother, he also seeks love as he was orphaned at a young age, för he too doesn’t know how to love.

His son Byron is the pinnacle of the madness this family brought into the city. He's another case of a love deprived individual due to his parents' loveless and borderline forced marriage, and he projects his "love" onto poor Japser, who really has no agency of his own, once again forced into this false life where he's the object of worship and false love from the people he didn't even know in his life. And he cannot even voice his wishes, he's only dragged around by the whims of broken people who try to fix themselves in unhealthy ways. And none of the people who "love" Jasper cannot let him go. Not his own daughter, who's rather suffer just so she could have her father around, nor Byron, whose insensitive nature indirectly led to an uprising and further stagnated the mad city.

Only when Priscilla steps into the picture, the only individual with true empathy, does the circle finally break and things can be allowed to change, för better or för worse.

the full letter is lovely and worth reading, but i'm both sad and will miss him and happy he seems at peace with this... i really do think based on what we've seen that he'll be back in a coaching or player development role and i think he will be fantastic at it.
