Paul Robinette was infuriatingly observant sometimes. A quiet thinker. But he had no qualms about teasing you.

Ben's glasses are perched on his nose, white sleeves undone, and rolled up his forearm. The blue suit jacket hung neatly over the back of his chair. Your eyes keep sliding up his arms, his voice becoming a lull in your ears. You keep having to break away.

Paul sends you a knowing glance and an amused smirk, calling your name in faux concern.

"Are you alright?"

Ben's blues turn up to face you, doing a once over.

Oh, you'll get him for this.

"I'll be back in a minute," Ben says, pocketing his glasses, hand squeezing your shoulder on the way out, your lungs screaming for air as he does.

Paul chuckles, and you point your finger at him.

"Is this the thanks I get for helping you go through this city's address book?"

"Depends on Ben's answer when you ask him to dinner."

Paul rarely confided in you about the cases he was working on. The cases that crossed their desks had warped his view of the world, and the people, and he didn't want that for you. He wanted you to walk down the street without feeling as if you needed to constantly look over your shoulder. However, you always knew when the duo had hit a slump or when they had a rock-solid case because of your boyfriend's mood.

He could come home calling out to you with the brightest smile, or sullen and silent as he dragged his feet. It wasn't uncommon for him to surprise you with flowers after spending late nights working trying to compile a good case to present to the jury, or when it was your birthday or an anniversary, or spontaneously just because he saw them and thought of you, and when he and Ben won a case.

Tonight, Paul didn't call out to you, but you heard the door close and believed his silence meant the jury had let them down. Then Paul entered the kitchen where you were prepping dinner and you turned to your boyfriend who greeted you with a smile. He kissed your cheek before presenting you with the flowers and you admired them with a smile.

"What are these for?"

"Just a little something for being you."

He had been pulling late hours at the office but he always made sure to call you, and you knew how frustrating this case was. And assumed from his good mood it was resolved.

"Compared to?"

"A murderous dominatrix with no value for human life."

Your eyebrows raised, nodding slowly, "Well, thank you. I'm pretty fond of you too."

Paul chuckled, wrapping his arm around your waist when you walked away, and you giggled when he leaned down to kiss you. You wrapped your arms around his neck as he deepened the kiss and pressed you against the countertops. "I love you." He murmured as he pulled away.

"I love you too." You smiled, "Did you get the bitch?"

"For a moment there we were worried they would cut her loose, but the jury came through on this one."

You grinned, giggling softly as you pecked his lips. "Congratulations."

Paul often remarked on how unpredictable a jury could be, and that made their win all the greater.
