Happy 80th anniversary to the Railway Series!
Here's my entry for the #RWS80thCollab; an art collab I helped organise to celebrate the anniversary. Each artist was randomly assigned a RWS book to create an illustration for - mine was book 11, Percy the Small Engine.
I thought it would be fun to depict Duck in the BR black livery he canonically arrived in 馃榿

Happy 80th anniversary to the Railway Series! Percy's finding all these anniversaries to be a little confusing. Can't blame him really.

'Later in the Big City, all the engines were lined up in a splendid shed. The children were delighted to meet their friends.
"I'm glad the little girl wrote to us," whispered Thomas to Percy. "Isn't it wonderful what happiness a letter can bring?"' ~ S4:Ep22; Thomas and the Special Letter
I dunno about all of you, but this shot was always one of the most impressive to me as a child. Anyways, more old art reuploading!

Shoutout to Sooty Will on Youtube, for his latest episode of his series which has to be the best adaptation of The Missing Coach I've ever seen, hands down. Some great comedy in this! :)

Another thing that I posted to Instagram that I decided to post here as well. Yes, it is from Top Gear, yes it does relate to the au.
Context: James was looking for something and taking quite awhile, which was annoying Gordon. And funny thing is that Percy is actually the one who manages files and data, so James is technically not supposed to be the one doing it, yet he is. Which is why Percy is sitting there very awkwardly.

Meet Michael Dowd
Bio: Michael is the young Fireman of NWR's #6, Percy the small engine. Cheerful and polite, Michael always looks on the bright side, and is often the one to turn a grim situation into a positive one. He has a close bond with Percy, who he affectionately nicknames "the engine of all trades." Michael is also the one everyone turns to whenever they need a quick lesson in the art of Footplate Cuisine
Trivia: Unlike his co-workers, Michael is the only fireman of the trainee class. This is because of his decision to manually rise through the ranks of railway staff, just like his father did.

James and Gordon wanted to pay Percy out; but Percy kept out of their way.
Nnoooo! Percy! You fool!
You never give Gordon time. Never let him choose the moment.
If you cross him, the only hope you have is to keep pushing him immediately while he's still confused and spluttering. Never let him regain equilibrium.
Thomas is an expert on the technique. You really need to become bffs with him pronto. Lucky this is the book where you are transferred to his line.
"More likely he wants you out of the way," grunted James. But Gordon gave James a wink... like this. "Ah yes," said James, "just so... You were saying, Gordon...?"
I hate them so much (I'm lying, I'm cracking up)

Assorted Character Headcanons: 5-7 (+ Emily)
James:
James is shockingly good at learning other languages. He picks up Sudrian rather quickly, surprising his crew, and gets snippets of Gaelic and Welsh when other engines or railway employees slip into those tongues. He even knows some French. It's a point of pride, but certainly one that makes him conceited at times. He's had a quite few moments where he asks the wrong question in the funniest way possible.
Percy:
I'm copying this over from where I submitted it to another blog, but Percy loves delivering the mail so much not just because it's a unique job, but it lets him make and see a lot of friends. In the RWS, Percy is shown to have a bunch of friends on the mainland; he probably has friends all around Sodor that he gets to catch up with during his mail runs and that's a huge motivator. He probably has the most friends of any engine on the island.
(Side note: I also have a headcanon about Percy's history and why it's never been confirmed in-universe.)
Toby:
His favorite pasttime is watching the stars with Henrietta. His driver and fireman have told him all about the constellations, and the two of them go stargazing all the time since they can get away from all of the light pollution and see the sky for what it is. It makes him feel small sometimes, but Henrietta says that it makes her feel like part of something bigger. All of the constellations make up the sky, just like all of the engines and coaches and trucks and vans make up the railway, and even if some constellations are bigger or more famous than others, it doesn't matter. They're all loved. And Toby finds that thought to be incredibly comforting.
Emily:
Emily really enjoys sunrises and sunsets. The beautiful colors are absolutely enchanting to her, and even though she's not a morning engine, she finds that on mornings when she manages to catch the sunrise, it makes her feel better. People have wondered what her fascination is, and to her, there's something marvelously comforting about how, when there's always new situations and complications happening, you can count on the certainty of the sun rising and setting to see something beautiful and uplifting at least once a day.

Happy 79th anniversary to the Railway Series! Here's my first of two entries to our annual RWS art collab; an illustration from the book 'Henry the Green Engine'! It's one of my favourite lines from James, so unsympathetic 馃槃 A video slideshow of all the collab entries can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA4RJZz1mkc

Ohhhh, I love tarot projects! Here's my two cents:
0. The Fool:
Honestly, Ivo Hugh from the SR would be a great fit for The Fool, since it's a card of beginnings and he's basically the newest engine in the RWS. He has a lot to learn, and The Fool suggests new beginnings and putting yourself out there. Percy was another good choice, but I think he'd be a better fit elsewhere...
1. The Magician:
Thomas. He is a train of action. He makes things happen. He gets into situations. When we think of the series, we think of Thomas and his ability to overcome all the situations in which he finds himself. That's a pretty good fit for the Magician.
2. The High Priestess:
Maybe it's a bit of a cop-out, but Emily fits in well here. This is a card of self-awareness, and Emily continuously works to better herself and examine her own behavior. Sure, people tell her off and that causes her to reexamine things, but she's big on self-reflection and that's a good fit for this card.
3. The Empress:
I think it's gotta be Daisy. The Empress is a card of femininity, beauty, and power, and Daisy has a strong and forthright personality and more emphasis on these traits than most on the railway.
(More under the cut!!)
4. The Emperor:
This card is about leadership and power, and that's gotta be Gordon. He's very much the moodmaker on the NWR, and he's good at throwing his weight around. While he can be fallible, his opinion carries a lot of weight, so he's the best suited for this card.
5. The Hierophant:
Edward, 100%. The Hierophant is a card of guidance and teaching, and that's very much Edward's job on the railway. The Hierophant encourages acting in a rule-abiding/orderly way and solving your problems from a spiritual perspective, and Edward's definitely the best fit for that.
7. The Chariot:
The Chariot, I think, should go to Percy. It's a card of drive, determination, and victory. It's visible in his race with Harold, but also in his willpower to keep his promise with Thomas and deliver his passengers despite rain and flooding. It's a card of will, and Percy is a small engine with will in spades.
8. Strength:
This is a card for courage, fortitude of the heart, and the ability to withstand anything life throws at you. Thus... it's gotta be Duck. He has overcome everything in his path, from leaving his own railway to being at peace with his place in the world, as well as holding onto his sense of self and his values. He has endured, and that speaks to his incredible strength.
10. Wheel of Fortune:
Everyone's got their ups and downs, and frankly, I think James takes the cake for having both good luck and bad. Sometimes you're on top and sometimes you're on the bottom, and James has certainly been both. He's had some of the highest highs and the lowest lows, and that suits this card just fine.
11. Justice:
Justice is the card of consequences, and the one to dole out those consequences is Sir Topham Hatt himself. This is a card of cause and effect, and Sir Topham is the one to deliver the effects of everything these crazy engines cause.
13. Death
This is a card of cycles, of a reminder that all things must pass. Old leads to new, and the past can inform the future, so I'd say that it's Duke who's the best fit for this card. He was on the mid-Sodor, then went into a form of "death" by being abandoned, and was eventually revived and given a new lease on life on the Skarloey Railway. He's a truly great representative of the concept of the card versus its surface level meaning.
14. Temperance:
Can't think of any more right now, but I love tarot projects and I'd love to see one for this fandom come to life one day!
Speaking of the Skarloey Railway, this card is a pretty good fit for the engine that shares its name. It's a card of peace, patience, and going with the flow. Taking things as they come and making the best of things is a great fit for Skarloey himself, especially in contrast to how he was when he was younger.
16. The Tower:
The Tower is a card of destruction and creation, and really... it's gotta be Henry. Henry, who was entirely rebuilt and overhauled, is a great fit for this card. From destruction, from the ashes, wonderful things can sprout.
I just have to wonder why, despite the fact that the Railway series has existed for 80 wet'n'wild years, no one has put pen to paper and created a Thomas and Friends tarot card deck. I don't even know anything about tarot cards, but I know it's kind of bog standard for a fandom to have SOMEONE making a tarot card deck. You could make the suits of cups cards a bunch of water towers or something.
