Somewhere in Joshua Tree National Park, New Year’s Eve 2021/New Year’s Day 2022 One thing that I’ve learned about myself is that I tend to go between extremes. Most years I want to be social where all the action is for NYE so I usually go to NYC. This year, I decided I wanted to be as far away from people as possible so I found my own little corner in Joshua Tree National Park and spent NYE in solitude staring at the stars surrounded by joshua trees and cool rocks. Everything was perfect - found a great spot for my tent, was able to use my bear canister as a makeshift cooler for a celebratory NYE beverage, and I had a whole hillside of rocks as my own personal playground with no one in sight (except for another set of dispersed campers that had their own rocks to play with far away from me lol). The only thing that sucked was the wind…it was suuuuper windy so it was too cold to hang out and stare at the stars and hard to take good night pictures with my phone but other than that, such a great way to end 2021 with a beautiful sunset and start 2022 with an equally beautiful sunrise.
