Love that while online fandom in general is having a weird meltdown about the morality of enjoying anything darker than sanitized fluff in fiction, the Danny Phantom fandom is still sitting in the corner 16 years after the show ended with a blankie and cocoa and their 10,000th deep-fanon supertorture cannibalism vivisection psychological horror fic

not to continue with the dnp asks, but... genuinely, what do you think their next career steps should be? These past few years have not... given me hope, but I do love them dearly still

I think what steps I want them to take and what they will be are different things.

I think the youtube era of their life is over save the nostalgia or big announcements. Phil's new videos don't hit with anyone but rapidly diminishing audience of dedicated fans. He is suffering an unwillingness to change, and if that's honestly what makes him happy then I am not saying he has to change. Just that he's never going to attract any kind of new audience with his current content.

Dan is a wildcard because I think he has a lot of ideas but not always the independent ability to see them through (depends on networks, etc) and not always maybe the perspective to see that the style of presentation popular in 2016 isn't popular now. Their tiktoks didn't hit for me because it was just a youtube video but in vertical format. For a million reasons they do not have any desire to loosen the reigns on their screen personas enough to appeal to new gen z or gen alpha, and those kids are being raised on tiktok 'this is your best friend speaking' casual attitudes from influencers.

So I would love to think that they could transition from youtube to something else content creation but I'm just not sure I see it? I think it's more likely that they continue on the Louise track being moderately successful in a now and then project but the majority of their income coming from past good investments.

just a thought i had- obviously there are tons of things we don’t know about dnps personal life but specifically with regard to ideas of them being in some sort of open/poly relationship- if there was any truth to that/to dans grindr “hoe phase,” wouldn’t someone have seen him/them on the apps? like, grindr specifically, since i know a lot of the phandom are gay or otherwise queer transmascs who may use those apps. or just in general, people who know of them would surely recognise them. i know also a lot of celebs don’t use “normal” dating apps like that but just the fact that some of the phandom is sooo convinced that there was truth to dans claims about having his grindr slut era during WAD…. i can’t see it actually happening for that reason specifically lol

idk if dan was or wasn’t on grindr fr i have no thoughts on it But if he was, i think it would be unlikely he’d be spotted by a phannie - that would require someone be in his dating age range which i assume is millennial (most phannies are older gen z) and it would also require that phannies interact with queer spaces outside of social media/fandoms which many do not. i don’t think he’d actually use grindr because he would be recognized by some rando saying “hey i know you from somewhere”. also don’t think dan would use raya because most people don’t have success actually meeting people on the app it’s largely used for networking (social climbing). if dan did have a slut era i’d imagine he’d have better chances going to a gay bar and approaching people

I think it’s great how fandoms can take mediocre to garbage shows and turn them into this wonderful rallying point for its own community and stories and even characters.

Yes, this is about the Phandom, but it applies to many more!! Shout-out to all the fans who take the bungled ideas of networks or publishers and make them into something beautiful.

Okay so hear me out. With the time that dp was airing 21-25 is a bit of a young age demographic (like 4-9 years old when the final season was airing) and I think that the upper part of that demographic isn't at all unreasonable for a kids cartoon.

But the thing is. Younger siblings usually become interested in what their older siblings are interested in. A 21 year old with a 26 year old sibling will have a completely different childhood culture than a 21 year old without an older sibling. So it makes sense for even the younger end of the 21-25 demographic to have watched it while airing if they had older siblings.

Idk. I'm in that age demographic and I remember watching it on cable (reruns maybe? How long after a show ends do cartoon tv networks usually air reruns?) along with all the adjacent shows (American Dragon, Kim Possible, Teenage Robot, etc.)

That's also the prime age for playing kids games on Nickelodeon.com which could spike interest in the show even after it ended.

Mostly though, I think that that's a pretty core age group for unsupervised internet access in important developmental years that was prime time for cringy fanfiction and fandom early enough to be new and interesting and exciting but old enough to actually have enough members for transformative content, to the point where it became an important part of the lige and development of this group. And the Phandom as it is today is peak fanon, which scratches that little itch i guess. Plus it's been around long enough and with dedicated enough fans that it was relatively easy to find a lot of DP fic on fanfiction.net and quotev and wattpad and all of those early fandom sites, so it could be that the unsupervised internet kids got into DP then (I did watch it while it was airing but I didn't even know there was a fandom until I discovered fnn a few years later. After that it was all downhill lol).

it occured to me last night that i have had a danny phantom draft in my docs for almost ten years and that blew my mind. so now im wondering

hello my friends! this is the weirdest thing i will ever ask of anyone! but here i am, nevertheless, asking it! (yes the banner says dangoghs but im danghosts rn it’s only for halloween so o well)

in june of 2017, i made a post (here if it’s after halloween when u see this) saying that whoever reblogged would get a picture of a cat with dan howell’s face photoshopped onto it. this got 2k notes. for two weeks, and may i remind you that my final exams were during those two weeks, i must’ve sent out about a hundred or more of these cats singlehandedly. it was hard work. i had no bots or anything to help me, and i didn’t want to repeat too much so i made over 60 (as well as some my friends made for me) dan cats, or dats. to this day about 1,000 people still have not received their long awaited prizes, and it pains me daily. 

it’s time to stop. it’s time for the dats to rise. it’s time for the apocalypse. and with your help, i can make it happen. here is my plan. pretty much everyone who applies to this will be accepted as long as they’re not a creep. everyone will be assigned a letter or group of numbers. you must search through the reblogs for every person with a url which starts with that letter or number, and send them their dat. obviously we’ll have a message or smth as a caption because no one will remember reblogging that on instinct lol. 

how will it work? basically, i will make a shared google photos album with everyone who applies, and place all 60 original dats in there. you are welcome to either use those or make you own to add to the collection. this folder will become a DATabase for everyone to use. and, it won’t be that much work because there’s so many people helping. as well we will have a gc on telegram!
