Judgments Around Public Places In The Philippines
One of the Filipino mindsets I have observed as I was exploring public places like the malls or the parks is that; once you are seen wearing some short shorts or spaghetti straps, you are someone who does not deserve the respect based solely on what you wear.
To give an example, I was once sitting in a mall eating my ice cream. Then suddenly someone sat next to me; a glorious young lady. She was wearing some shorts and a sleeveless shirt which fitted her perfectly. I noticed her for a while as she sat next to me since most of the seats were taken. I didn't mind at all, hence I get back to scrolling on my phone after. But suddenly I heard some nasty comment just a few blocks away from me. It was an old woman with her little daughter. I listened to their conversation for a while as the little girl commented; "mom, I like her outfit. I should try that style once." The girl beside me also heard this comment. She smiled. But what struck the buttons out of me is what the mother replied. She replied in a very hush tone “Oh no, honey. You shouldn’t dress like that because you will look like a stripper who would want to get a boys’ attention to get pregnant.” This disgusting comment made me very angry. But to be honest, I have heard a lot of Filipino behaviors like this. Wherein I observed, Filipino people, tend to judge others based on what they wear.
Through the experience I have encountered, I realized one major difference we have with foreigners. Filipinos tend not to be open to change. Just like the last example I have given, the world right now is known to be changing wherein we are encouraging equal rights for everyone. If a man can wear a sleeveless shirt and shorts without being judged, so should a woman. But based on the observation I just shared, that seems still not to be happening here in our country. Compared to the foreigners, wherein I have read and also observed that they are open to different changes just like the one being implemented today; equal rights for women and men.
Even though I am Filipino, I support the implementation of equal rights for women and men. Which made me realize that even though Filipinos share the same main communication language which is Filipino, there are still other underlying factors that we can be different from because of the way we see or experience it. Just like our own beliefs and values. Other than that, even though we are one nation, the Philippines is known to have a lot of dialects. Wherein for example, if you put a Bisaya and a Kapampangan in a room, there is a chance that they wouldn’t be able to understand each other because they both grew up in a different environment with a different dialect.
The experience I just shared definitely reflects Filipino culture and values. The Philippines is known to be a high-context culture. We can see that in the experience I have shared. Wherein we can conclude that; most Filipinos are not open to changes. Just like how a high-context culture would be; because normally change does require A LOT of time for it to be accepted and nurtured in this country.

Philippines receives first shipment of China-donated Sinovac vaccine
The Philippines received its first supply of vaccines on Sunday after 600,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines donated by the Chinese government arrived in the country.
A Chinese military plane carrying the first batch of donated vials landed at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City at around 4 PM, according to state run PTV-4,
The arrival of the Chinese made jabs will kickstart the country’s inoculation on Monday, March 1.
President Rodrigo Duterte led the ceremonial turnover of the 600,000 doses of vaccine called CoronaVac to the Philippine government,
Cabinet officials along with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian and other Chinese diplomats were also present to welcome the initial shipment of doantions at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City
In his speech, Duterte expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the vaccine donation.
“I convey my sincere gratitude to the Chinese people and the government of China for this gesture of friendship and solidarity – the hallmark of Philippines-China partnership,” he said.
Duterte also reiterated his statement that Covid-19 vaccines should be treated as a global public good and that “no nation – no people - should be left to suffer the ravages of this pandemic for whatever reason."
At least 100,000 doses of the first batch will be allocated to the military, according to Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian.
"I hope that the vaccines will help kick off the Philippines’ mass inoculation campaign to curb the pandemic and allow Filipinos to return to normal life at the earliest,” the Chinese envoy said adding more Chinese vaccines procured by the Philippine government will surely come soon as expected.
Sinovac is the third Covid-19 vaccine product that has received an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the country's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alongside Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
From Villamor Airbase, the vaccine would be transported to cold storage facilities, including at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and the Metropac Logistics in Marikina City.
