CAKE PHP DEVELOPMENT
Tumblr media
What is CakePHP?
CakePHP is an open-source web framework written in PHP scripting language for web development based on the core PHP framework and MVC architecture. MVC architecture mostly Centre on model, view, and controller of the specific project to give logical separation of code from the end user.
CakePHP was created by Michal Tatarynowicz in April Year 2005. The framework gives a strong base for your application. It can hold each aspect, from the user’s beginning request all the way to the final supply of a web page.
And since the framework follows the fundamental of MVC, it permits you to simply customize and expand most aspects of your application.
The CakePHP also gives a simple organizational structure, from filenames to database table names, keeping your whole application constant and logical. This concept is easy but impressive. Go around with the protocol and you’ll always know absolutely where things are and how they’re arranged.
Here’s a quick list of CakePHP features such as:
It follows MVC architecture
Rapid development
Application scaffolding
Active, friendly community
Built-in validations
Secure, scalable, and stable
Flexible licensing

jQuery Dependent DropDown List – States and Districts Using PHP-PDO
Tumblr media
In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to change the district dropdown list option based on the selected state name using PHP-PDO.
In this example, we have two dropdowns for listing states and districts. On changing states drop-down values, the corresponding district dropdown values will be loaded dynamically using jQuery AJAX.
Click: https://phpgurukul.com/jquery-dependent-dropdown-list-states-and-districts-using-php-pdo/
File structure for this tutorial
config.php — Database connection file.
index.php — Main file having drop down
get_district.php — used to retrieve the district based on the selected state name.
MySQL Database structure for this tutorial
In this tutorial two MySQL Database table is used.
state
district
state table structure
CREATE TABLE `state` (
`StCode` int(11) NOT NULL,
`StateName` varchar(150) DEFAULT NULL
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;
district table structure
CREATE TABLE `district` (
`DistCode` int(11) NOT NULL,
`StCode` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`DistrictName` varchar(200) DEFAULT NULL
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;
Step 1: Create a database connection file (config.php)
<?php
// DB credentials.
error_reporting(0);
define(‘DB_HOST’,’localhost’);
define(‘DB_USER’,’root’);
define(‘DB_PASS’,’’);
define(‘DB_NAME’,’demos’);
// Establish database connection.
try
{
$dbh = new PDO(“mysql:host=”.DB_HOST.”;dbname=”.DB_NAME,DB_USER, DB_PASS,array(PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_INIT_COMMAND => “SET NAMES ‘utf8’”));
}
catch (PDOException $e)
{
exit(“Error: “ . $e->getMessage());
}
?>
Step2: Create a HTML form with two fields . One is for state and another one is for district.
<form name=”insert” action=”” method=”post”>
<table width=”100%” height=”117" border=”0">
<tr>
<th width=”27%” height=”63" scope=”row”>Sate :</th>
<td width=”73%”><select onChange=”getdistrict(this.value);” name=”state” id=”state” class=”form-control” >
<option value=””>Select</option>
<! — — Fetching States — ->
<?php
$sql=”SELECT * FROM state”;
$stmt=$dbh->query($sql);
$stmt->setFetchMode(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
while($row =$stmt->fetch()) {
?>
<option value=”<?php echo $row[‘StCode’];?>”><?php echo $row[‘StateName’];?></option>
<?php }?>
</select></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th scope=”row”>District :</th>
<td><select name=”district” id=”district-list” class=”form-control”>
<option value=””>Select</option>
</select></td>
</tr>
</table>
</form>
Step3: Getting States using jQuery AJAX
This script contains a function that will be called on changing state dropdown values. It will send AJAX request to a PHP page to get corresponding district dropdown options.
<script>
function getdistrict(val) {
$.ajax({
type: “POST”,
url: “get_district.php”,
data:’state_id=’+val,
success: function(data){
$(“#district-list”).html(data);
}
});
}
</script>
Step 4: Read the district table using PHP based on the selected state name.
This PHP code connects the database to retrieve district table values based on the state id passed by jQuery AJAX call.
<?php
require_once(“config.php”);
if(!empty($_POST[“state_id”]))
{
$stateid=$_POST[“state_id”];
$sql=$dbh->prepare(“SELECT * FROM district WHERE StCode=:stateid”);
$sql->execute(array(‘:stateid’ => $stateid));
?>
<option value=””>Select District</option>
<?php
while($row =$sql->fetch())
{
?>
<option value=”<?php echo $row[“DistrictName”]; ?>”><?php echo $row[“DistrictName”]; ?></option>
<?php
}
}
?>
How to run this script
1.Download the zip file
2.Extract the file and copy statedistdropdown-pdo folder
3.Paste inside root directory(for xampp xampp/htdocs, for wamp wamp/www, for lamp var/www/html)
4.Open PHPMyAdmin (http://localhost/phpmyadmin)
5.Create a database with name demos
6.Import regdb.sql file(given inside the zip package )

Creating a Simple REST API with PHP: A Beginner's Guide
In the digital era, REST APIs have become the backbone of web and mobile applications, facilitating seamless communication between different software systems. PHP, with its simplicity and wide adoption, is a powerful tool for building robust REST APIs. This guide aims to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of creating a simple REST API using PHP.
Understanding REST APIs
Before diving into the technicalities, it's essential to understand what REST APIs are. REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architectural style for designing networked applications. It relies on a stateless, client-server, cacheable communications protocol -- typically HTTP. In simpler terms, REST uses HTTP requests to GET, PUT, POST, and DELETE data.
Setting Up Your Environment
To start building your REST API with PHP, you'll need a local server environment like XAMPP, WAMP, or MAMP. These software packages provide the necessary tools (Apache, MySQL, and PHP) to develop and test your API locally. Once installed, start the Apache server to run your PHP scripts.
Planning Your API
Before coding, plan what resources your API will provide access to and the corresponding endpoints. For example, if you're building an API for a blog, resources might include articles, authors, and comments. An endpoint for retrieving articles could be structured as http://yourdomain.com/api/articles.
Creating the API
1. Setting Up a Project Structure
Create a new directory in your server's root folder (e.g., htdocs in XAMPP) named my_api. Inside this directory, create two files: .htaccess and index.php. The .htaccess file will be used for URL rewriting, making your API endpoints clean and user-friendly.
.htaccess
apacheCopy code
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9-]+)/?$ index.php?request=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
This configuration redirects all requests to index.php, passing the request path as a query parameter.
2. Implementing the API Logic
index.php
Start by initializing an array to mock a database of articles. Then, parse the request to determine which resource is being accessed.
phpCopy code
<?php // Mock database of articles $articles = [ ['id' => 1, 'title' => 'The First Article', 'content' => 'This is the first article.'], ['id' => 2, 'title' => 'The Second Article', 'content' => 'This is the second article.'] ]; // Get the request path $request = $_GET['request'] ?? ''; // Split the path into components $requestParts = explode('/', $request); // Determine the resource $resource = $requestParts[0] ?? ''; header('Content-Type: application/json'); switch ($resource) { case 'articles': echo json_encode($articles); break; default: http_response_code(404); echo json_encode(['error' => 'Resource not found']); break; }
This script checks the requested resource and returns a JSON-encoded list of articles if the articles resource is accessed. For any other resource, it returns a 404 error with a JSON error message.
3. Testing Your API
To test your API, you can use tools like Postman or simply your browser. For instance, navigating to http://localhost/my_api/articles should display the JSON-encoded articles.
Extending Your API
Once you've mastered the basics, you can extend your API by implementing additional HTTP methods (POST, PUT, DELETE) and adding authentication for secure access. This might involve more advanced PHP programming, including working with headers for content type and authentication tokens, and dealing with more complex routing and database interactions.
Best Practices
When developing your API, keep in mind best practices such as:
Security: Implement measures like authentication, input validation, and sanitization to protect your API.
Versioning: Version your API from the start (e.g., v1/articles) to avoid breaking changes for users as your API evolves.
Documentation: Provide clear, concise documentation for your API's endpoints, request parameters, and response objects.
Embracing PHP's Flexibility for Rapid Development
One of the unique aspects of creating a REST API with PHP is leveraging PHP's inherent flexibility and simplicity for rapid development. As a dynamically typed language, PHP allows developers to iterate quickly without the strict type constraints found in statically typed languages. This flexibility is particularly beneficial in the early stages of API development, where the data model and business logic might frequently change. Furthermore, PHP's extensive standard library and numerous frameworks can significantly speed up the development process. For instance, using a PHP framework like Laravel or Symfony can provide out-of-the-box solutions for routing, security, and ORM (Object-Relational Mapping), enabling developers to focus on the unique aspects of their application rather than boilerplate code. To streamline projects with experts, businesses look for top php development companies and avail their services to implement better development strategies.
The Power of PHP's Community and Resources
Another unique advantage of building REST APIs with PHP is the extensive community support and wealth of resources available. PHP is one of the most widely used programming languages for web development, with a vibrant community that contributes to a vast ecosystem of libraries, frameworks, and tools. This community support means developers can often find solutions to common problems and questions through forums, blogs, and tutorials. Additionally, the availability of comprehensive documentation and best practices makes it easier for businesses to avail PHP development services to delve deeper into advanced topics. The combination of PHP's ease of use and the support of its community makes it an excellent choice for developing REST APIs, providing both beginners and seasoned developers with the resources they need to succeed.
Conclusion
Building a REST API with PHP is a rewarding project that can enhance your web development skills. Following this guide, you've taken the first step towards creating your API, understanding its foundational concepts, and applying best practices. As want to incorporate more features, refine code, and explore the vast possibilities of RESTful services, the natural choice for them is to hire php developers by outsourcing.
Remember, the key to mastering API development is practice and continuous learning. Experiment with different scenarios, contribute to open-source projects, and stay updated with the latest trends in web development. Your journey as an API developer is just beginning, and the digital world eagerly awaits your contributions.

For example: bashCopy code mv composer.phar /usr/local/bin/composer Basic Usage of Composer: Once Composer is installed, you can start using it in your PHP projects. Create a composer.json File: In your project directory, create a file named composer.json. This file is where you define your project's dependencies. Here's a simple example: jsonCopy code "require": "monolog/monolog": "^2.0" This example specifies that your project requires the Monolog package in version 2.0 or higher. Install Dependencies: Run the following command to install the dependencies listed in your composer.json file: bashCopy code composer install Composer will download the specified packages and place them in the vendor directory of your project. Autoloading: To use the classes and functions provided by your dependencies, include Composer's autoloader at the beginning of your PHP script: phpCopy code require 'vendor/autoload.php'; This line autoloads the classes and functions, making them available for use in your project. Updating Dependencies: Over time, you may want to update your project's dependencies to newer versions. To do this, run: bashCopy code composer update Composer will check for updates according to the version constraints specified in your composer.json file and update the packages accordingly. Adding New Dependencies: To add a new dependency to your project, you can use the composer require command: bashCopy code composer require package-name Replace package-name with the name of the package you want to add. Removing Dependencies: To remove a dependency, use the composer remove command: bashCopy code composer remove package-name Replace package-name with the name of the package you want to remove. Advanced Usage of Composer: Advanced usage of Composer involves exploring its more powerful features and customization options. Here are some advanced topics and techniques for using Composer: Custom Autoloading: While Composer provides an autoloader by default, you can define custom autoloading rules for your project. You can specify your own autoloading rules in the composer.json file using the autoload or autoload-dev section. This is useful when working with custom namespaces or directories. jsonCopy code "autoload": "psr-4": "MyNamespace\\": "src/" Scripts: Composer allows you to define scripts that run before or after certain events, such as package installation or update. You can use scripts to automate tasks like database migrations, code generation, or any custom setup. jsonCopy code "scripts": "post-install-cmd": "MyNamespace\\MyClass::postInstall", "post-update-cmd": "MyNamespace\\MyClass::postUpdate" Using Aliases: Composer allows you to define aliases for packages. Aliases can be useful when dealing with packages that provide multiple versions or forks, allowing you to use a specific alias instead of a version constraint. jsonCopy code "extra": "installer-paths": "my-packages/$name": ["vendor/package-alias"] Private Repositories:
If you have private packages or repositories, you can configure Composer to authenticate and fetch from them. You'll need to set up access credentials and define custom repositories in your composer.json file. jsonCopy code "repositories": [ "type": "vcs", "url": "https://github.com/yourusername/private-repo.git" ], "require": "yourusername/private-repo": "dev-master" Lock File and Version Control: The composer.lock file records the exact versions of dependencies installed. It's recommended to commit both composer.json and composer.lock to version control. This ensures that everyone working on the project installs the same versions of dependencies. Dependency Resolution Strategies: Composer provides various strategies for dependency resolution, such as pessimistic version constraints (^, ~), caret ^, tilde ~, etc. Understanding how these constraints work and choosing the right one for your project is crucial for stability. Composer Plugins: Explore and use Composer plugins to extend its functionality. Plugins can automate tasks, add custom commands, or integrate with other tools. Dependency Analysis Tools: There are tools available that can help you analyze and visualize your project's dependencies, including composer show, composer outdated, and external tools like Deptrac. Multiple Composer Files: You can use multiple composer.json files for different environments or purposes. For example, you might have a composer.json file for development dependencies and another for production dependencies. Composer Configuration: Customize Composer's behavior by using configuration options in the composer.json file or a composer.json located in your home directory (~/.composer/config.json). Continuous Integration (CI) Integration: Incorporate Composer into your CI/CD pipeline to ensure that dependencies are correctly installed and up-to-date. Composer Plugins: Explore and use Composer plugins to extend its functionality. Plugins can automate tasks, add custom commands, or integrate with other tools. Satis and Toran Proxy: For organizations with many private packages, you can set up a private package repository using tools like Satis or Toran Proxy to cache and manage private packages. Remember that advanced usage of Composer may require a deeper understanding of PHP package management and dependency resolution. Always consult the official Composer documentation and community resources for guidance on specific advanced topics: https://getcomposer.org/doc/

WordPress automatic login link
I manage many WordPress sites for customers and need to log in to them occasionally, but don’t tend to record the passwords in my password manager and just reset them to something random each time using WP CLI.
I came up with a niftier solution - generate a one-time login link which will automatically log me in as an administrator!
The script is below.
Run it in the top level directory of a WordPress installation. You can run it as the user who owns the files or as root (it will su as a appropriate and set file ownership).
The script will creates a file and then output the one-time login URL to the console e.g. https://example.com/auto-login-abcdef1234.php . If you visit this link, WordPress will log you in as the first administrator it finds in the database and then delete the PHP file.
Further improvements that could be considered:
Check if you already have an admin user, perhaps by returning the entire list and searching for one matching your name / email. It should then use that one if possible, or else pick a random administrator or create a new admin for you. It doesn’t really matter, but customers with WordFence or similar plugins installed might get alerts that you have logged in as them and this could be confusing
If you don’t visit the link, it should auto-expire after some time. A system-wide cron job which finds and deletes them would be a good idea. The script could/should also be extended with a self-expiry - i.e. the shell script can set the current timestamp in a variable in the PHP script, and then PHP should check if the system time is no more than 10 minutes since the script was created. If the script is expired, it should not proceed with the login.
#!/bin/bash # Detect if wp-load.php exists in the current directory. If not, exit. if [ ! -f "wp-load.php" ]; then echo "wp-load.php not found. Exiting." exit 1 fi # Create a PHP file with a random name and .php extension filename=auto-login-$(cat /dev/urandom | tr -dc 'a-zA-Z0-9' | fold -w 16 | head -n 1).php wpsu() { if [[ "$PWD" =~ ^/home/([^/]+)/.*$ ]]; then sudo -u ${BASH_REMATCH[1]} /usr/local/bin/php /usr/local/bin/wp "$@" else /usr/local/bin/php /usr/local/bin/wp "$@" fi } # Write the PHP script to the file cat <<EOF > "$filename" <?php require_once('wp-load.php'); \$users = get_users([ 'role' => 'administrator', 'number' => 1, ]); if (!empty(\$users)) { \$user = \$users[0]; \$username = \$user->user_login; wp_set_auth_cookie(\$user->ID); wp_redirect(admin_url()); unlink(__FILE__); exit; } else { echo "No administrator user found in the WordPress database."; } ?> EOF # Get the current site's URL siteurl=$(wpsu option get siteurl) # Print the URL + / + the new file name echo "$siteurl/$filename" # Check if the current user is root if [ $(id -u) -eq 0 ]; then # Get the uid and gid of wp-load.php uid=$(stat -c "%u" wp-load.php) gid=$(stat -c "%g" wp-load.php) # Change the ownership of the PHP file to match wp-load.php chown "$uid:$gid" "$filename" fi

A file browser or file manager can be defined as the computer program which offers a user interface for managing folders and files. The main functions of any file manager can be defined as creation, opening, viewing, editing, playing or printing. It also includes the moving, copying, searching, deleting and modifications. The file managers can display the files and folders in various formats which include the hierarchical tree which is based upon directory structure. Some file managers also have forward and back navigational buttons which are based upon web browsers. Some files managers also offers network connectivity and are known as web-based file managers. The scripts of these web managers are written in various languages such as Perl, PHP, and AJAX etc. They also allow editing and managing the files and folders located in directories by using internet browsers. They also allow sharing files with other authorized devices as well as persons and serve as digital repository for various required documents, publishing layouts, digital media, and presentations. Web based file sharing can be defined as the practice of providing access to various types of digital media, documents, multimedia such as video, images and audio or eBooks to the authorized persons or to the targeted audience. It can be achieved with various methods such as utilization of removable media, use of file management tools, peer to peer networking. The best solution for this is to use file management software for the storage, transmission and dispersion which also includes the manual sharing of files with sharing links. There are many file sharing web file management software in the market which are popular with the people around the world. Some of them are as follows: Http Commander This software is a comprehensive application which is used for accessing files. The system requirements are Windows OS, ASP.NET (.NET Framework) 4.0 or 4.5 and Internet Information Services (IIS) 6/7/7.5/8. The advantages include a beautiful and convenient interface, multiview modes for file viewing, editing of text files, cloud services integration and document editing, WEBDAV support and zip file support. It also includes a user-friendly mobile interface, multilingual support, and easy admin panel. The additional features of the software include a mobile interface, high general functionality and a web admin. You can upload various types of files using different ways such as Java, Silverlight, HTML5, Flash and HTML4 with drag and drop support. CKFinder The interface of this web content manager is intuitive, easy to access and fast which requires a website configured for IIS or Internet Information Server. You would also require enabled Net Framework 2.0+ for installation. Some advantages include multi-language facility, preview of the image, and 2 files view modes. You also get search facility in the list as well drag and drop file function inside the software. The software has been programmed in Java Script API. Some disadvantages include difficulty in customizing the access of folders, inability to share files and finally, non integration of the software with any online service. You cannot edit the files with external editors or software. Also, there is no tool for configuration and you cannot drag and drop files during upload. Some helpful features include ease in downloading files using HTML4 and HTML5, also the documentation is available for installation and setup. File Uploads And Files Manager It provides a simple control and offers access to the files stored in servers. For installation, the user requires Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and higher as well as Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. Some advantages include a good interface where all icons are simple and in one style, 2 files view modes including detailed and thumbnails. It also supports basic file operations, supports themes, filters the file list as well as being integrated with cloud file storage services.
Some disadvantages include limited and basic operation with files, inability to work as a standalone application, settings are in code, and finally it cannot view files in a browser, weak general functionality, no mobile interface and no web admin. Some useful features include uploading multiple files at one go, multilingual support and availability of documentation. Easy File Management Web Server This file management software installs as a standalone application and there is no requirement for configuration. The software does not support AJAX. A drawback is that it looks like an outdated product and the interface is not convenient. The system requirement for this software is Windows OS. The advantages include having no requirement for IIS, uploading of HTML4 files one at a time, providing support notifications with email and can be easily installed and configured from the application. The disadvantages include the interface not being user-friendly, full page reload for any command, it cannot edit files and does not support Unicode characters. Moreover, it does not provide multilingual support for users and has a small quantity of functions when compared with others. ASP.NET File Manager This file manager at first glance, is not intuitive and is outdated. The system requirement for this manager is IIS5 or higher version and ASP.NET 2.0 or later version. Some advantages include editing ability of text files, users can do file management through browsers which is very simple, and it can provide support for old browsers. You can do basic operations with files stored and have easy functions. On the other hand, some disadvantages include the redundant interface, its need to reload full page for navigation. Additionally there is no integration with online services. The user cannot share files, cannot drag and drop files during uploading, gets only one folder for file storage and there's no tool for configuration. Moreover, there's no multilingual support, no mobile interface, low general functionality and no web admin. File Explorer Essential Objects This file manager offers limited functionality regarding files and is a component of Visual Studio. The system requirements include .Net Framework 2.0+ and a configured website in IIS. Some advantages include previewing of images, AJAX support with navigation, integration with Visual Studio and 2 file view modes. The disadvantages include no command for copy, move or rename file, no editing of files even with external editors and inability to share files with anyone. What's more, there's no support for drag and drop file for uploading, an outdated interface, no 'access rights' customization for various users, no web admin, no mobile interface and no multilingual support for users. FileVista This file management software offers a good impression at the outset but has limited functionalities. The system requirements include Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Full Framework) or higher and enabled Windows Server with IIS. Some advantages include setting quotas for users, uploading files with drag n drop, Flash, HTML4, Silverlight and HTML5, multilingual support, presence of web admin, archives support, easy interface, fast loading and creation of public links. The disadvantages include disabled editing ability, no integration with document viewers or online services, no search function and no support of drag and drop for moving files. IZWebFileManager Even though the software is outdated and has not been updated,it's still functional. The interface of this software is similar to Windows XP. It has minimum functionality and no admin. It provides easy access to files but is suitable only for simple tasks. The advantages of this software include 3 file view modes, preview of images, facility to drag and drop files, various theme settings and a search feature. The disadvantages of this software include the old interface, no editing of files, no integration with online services, no sharing of files, and no drag and drop support for uploading files.
The user cannot set a permission command as well. Moxie Manager This file management software is modern and has a nice design. Also, it is integrated with cloud services which functions with images. The system requirements include IIS7 or higher and ASP.NET 4.5 or later versions. Some advantages include an attractive interface, ability to use all file operations, preview of text and image files. You can also edit text and image files, support Amazon S3 files and folders, support Google Drive and DropBox with download capability, support FTP and zip archives. On the other hand, some disadvantages include having no built-in user interface, no right settings for users, no support of drag and drop, no mobile interface and no web admin. Some features include multilingual format, available documentation, upload files with drag and drop support, average functionality.
