Regarding the poll, I'm just curious: which answer did you give? (Mine was "woman I would try")
I'm going to save that until the pole runs out, then I'll reblog it and explain my reasoning

Not so much an ask, just a belated addendum to my vote on your cathilocism poll: My mom was born and raised Protestant, married a Catholic man born and raised in the faith, and didn't convert until she'd had 6 kids. We were all raised Catholic, she attended Catholic Mass with Dad and the rest of us every single Sunday of her marriage, extraordinary circumstances notwithstanding, and never actually joined the Catholic Church until one of the other homeschooling moms (she homeschooled us) asked her why she wasn't Catholic. She was in her mid-40s, I think.
You're not alone. There are other women out there like you. I'm actually really grateful for my Mom's Protestant roots, because she insisted we read the Bible and read us the bible every day during our morning devotions (still does, for my younger siblings) and taught us how to memorize verses, and sure i don't remember them all, but I have the foundation of her love for the Bible and for her Savior on top of the graces I receive from the Catholic Church.
And I didn't say anything before, but I wanted to now, so. God bless, and have a great day!
Thank you very much for sharing 💕 I know it's a stereotype but I have noticed that I tend to be able to recall more scripture than a lot of cradle Catholics I know because we did so much memorization 😭 memorization doesn't mean holiness of course but it can still be really helpful and I'm glad that my mom and dad have rooted us so deeply in it

ecclesial heraldry is a whole industry and it's so cool! look up Fr Guy Silvester if you want to see the absolute master (he also gets really snarky about bad heraldry and it's so funny)
Okay thanks! Learning new stuff every day

okay i just reread Genesis 25-27 after reading your post and came back to share my thoughts, because i agree it IS very interesting that Isaac's initial blessing cannot be rescinded or outdone. i see it as a combination of a few different things:
1) Isaac favors Esau his firstborn who spends time hunting for and feeding his dad, and Rebekah favors Jacob her secondborn who spends time at home "in the tents" which seems like it indicates that Jacob spent more time learning the ways of the household and taking care of his parents, growing his bond with his mother. Isaac himself is arguably the secondborn of Abraham, favored by God, for his laser-focus on God's promises. he doesn't take his eye off the ball. but
2) Esau does. he gives up his birthright — which is God-given to the firstborn (i don't have a source for this besides tradition but i'm pretty sure sources exist) — when Jacob trades him a bowl of stew for it. specifically, he SWEARS it, which means it's an oath taken by them both before God. so, when
3) later, Isaac tries to bless Esau, he's trying to bless him the equivalent of his birthright, regardless of whether Isaac knew the trade had occurred. i'd argue that this is partially Isaac's fault for waiting so late to bless his sons until his eyes were going, but tbh there's a whole host of weird stuff going on with Isaac's first blessing. he phrases it specifically to give the recipient total dominion, including over Jacob's brothers and family. a blind king has no business passing down the crown to someone he can't even see. it's pride, but it's also a yoke around the neck of whoever DOESN'T receive that blessing (assuming it carries the power that Isaac expects it to, which we must assume it will). in the context of the last point, i don't see this as a separate instance of Jacob stealing out something from under Esau; rather it's more like God making both Esau and Isaac face the consequences of Esau's carelessness with his God-given birthrights and Isaac's relentless preferential treatment (and, arguably, pride). we see, later in Genesis 28, Isaac continuing to bless Jacob, which is literally a blessing in turn unto Isaac (because whoever blesses Jacob will be blessed in turn). very interesting stuff, but i'm out of steam.
uhhh TL;DR: the bestowing of the two blessings to Jacob and Esau were a continuation and consequence of Esau relinquishing his birthright. God overruled Isaac's will because of Esau's own choice, and He inspired Rebekah to make sure that her favored son, Jacob, had a seat at the table no matter what. i think it's very cool!
Good points. It's also interesting that again, birthright and oath is a binding thing that can be bought and sold. Also you made me realize I wrote Abraham when I meant to wrote Issac throughout the whole thing

If tumblr allowed it, I would send you a counter out-loud voice message to cancel out your friend's out loud statements. Our God is a good God. There's nothing wrong with praying for more emotion or less doubt-- you sound so faithful wrestling with that as is. Keep it up. I'm going to pray for peace for you today, and for a handsome guy who loves the Lord to show up in your life like something out of a Hallmark movie. Alternatively, if God really wants for you to become a nun as your friend suggests, I'm going to ask on your behalf that He give you a clear desire for that and a sign in all capital letters to do it haha
Also spare yourself and don't go on a date with a guy you really don't like! It sucks! (For you and for the guy, honestly. Speaking from experience, do not recommend.)
Thank you 💕

Regarding your post on classiness versus trashiness.
My mother is classy born classy. I am... pragmatic to the point of sheer utilitarianism. I am not the cleanest. I have three little boys and my floor has dirt and my walls have crayon. The only decoration I have is a Bible verse from Hobby Lobby that a friend gave me. My mother hates it and hates me for it.
One of the nicest most Christian ladies I ever knew had a house covered in clutter and half-broken toys and dirt. Another one of the best Christians I know has sent me pictures of her mudroom half a foot deep in dirt.
I do think that maybe trashiness is inherent. I find I cannot think of it as a moral failing. After all, Jesus was born in a barn, not an alabaster palace with scrubbed floors.
<3
Sorry I missed this, I only just saw it and it's very sweet, thank you for sharing it.

besides the regular dread of dating apps, do you like upward?
It seems to have more people than catholic match and dating is kinda a numbers game. It's a "Christian" dating app ran by the same people who do hinge and some other ones, so supposedly you meet people who are Christians and you can sort by denomination and whatnot. Honestly though besides being a little better than catholic match It's basically the same.
I will say this about Hinge though. It forces you to fill out a full profile before you can send likes and they have a lot better "weird" questions that could potentially give you a better idea about what kind of person they are rather than just "I like working out and jumping out of airplanes and dogs". I have found so many dating apps where there is just nothing on the guys and it kinda makes me mad. So I'd honestly recommend that over upward.
In the end though, most of the big dating apps are owned by a lot of the same people, are extremely overpriced, and create a false sense of urgency like a mobile game. It's very predatory. But if you can keep your head and are just aware of what they are doing, they can work. I know many people who've met their spouses using various apps.

Fun fact, the violin and the fiddle is the same instrument. The only reason it's called a is because that's what the lower class would play in order to keep the violin as a rich man's instrument
Oh! So it's how it's played that makes it different? Thanks, I didn't know

Sorry to hear that the dudes filtering through your dating app sound like they don't have their heads on straight.
On the other hand, it also sounds like your ideal second date might include a contrived excuse to assemble an ikea furniture set (and I love that for you).
Honestly I think building something or troubleshooting a mechanical problem is a great way to get to know someone and how they think and respond to frustration. And also whether if you love being around each other despite doing something mundane. One of the most fun this past year was spending four hours putting together a desk by myself late into the night while listening to music and theology podcasts. Like it was a great time
