as someone who was in the mines of "drawing a characters robotic arm from increasingly difficult angles" before, i yearn for those times. so heres my take on blu engie's gunslinger, based on modern prosthetic forearms
its worth noting that, before he cloned himself to create red engie, he had the original gunslinger, ie he was only missing his hand. he decided to upgrade himself not only bc he had the means to, but bc he wanted to differentiate himself from his clone so that he would always be distinctly the original, even if he would be the only one to know that
inspired by vi's hextech gauntlets and ofc, johnny silverhand's arm. i miss drawing johnny every day of my life

Even before I was a transformers fan, I tended to anthropomorphise my electronics and vehicles and such. Which is why my Car is a dude and his name is The Mountain Goat.
The name was earned on a very specific incident but that's not the focus of this post. The focus of this post is I like to think I get vibes from my car, I like to think we are in sync. I am a hoon and he loves to go hooning, because he's The Mountain Goat.
But I also think I found out he likes to be called baby girl so that's fun.

Atla worldbuilding thought: In Atla steam engines and ships with metal hull exist. Guns, on the other hand, do not exist.
There was a short time window in our history in which guns were ineffective against Ironclads. In one battle they tried the solution of ramming and it worked surprisingly well. But it didn't become common practice because gun technology caught up.
But in the world of Atla, without guns, naval battles would be ramming focussed.

[2003]
To call Sidney nervous would be a major understatement. The little blue engine was shaking in his frames.
“Hookay. Nothing big here. You’re just… working in an unfamiliar part of the island, working a huge order of coal. Please, please, don’t screw anything up…”
Sidney had been asked on short notice to help the Coaling Plant through a rather large order. All the while, he kept worrying his shaky memory would cause him to make a mess of things.
“Hold on… did they say this was for Crosby, or Cronk?” Sidney was always getting the two mixed up. They sounded very similar, after all.
At last, Sidney caved, and, again, went and found Logan.
“Sorry, um, where are these going again?” He asked, shakily.
The dark blue shunter tried not to wince as he asked for what he was sure was the hundredth time. Logan, however, only looked up and smiled.
“Cronk station yard!” He beamed. “From what I was told, it’s just South of the station. Big yard with a bridge carrying a road over the tracks, ya can’t miss it.”
Sidney smiled weakly. Logan always talked so fast, and the shunting diesel wasn’t sure if he’d gotten it all.
“Uh… thanks!”
“Not a problem! Let me know if you need anything else!”

All moved into our new shop and ready to build the next engine. On deck is a Lycoming O-320 H2AD, the first build of its kind for me. It’s a bit of an exotic engine, rare to find and parts are hard to come by .

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a big block Lycoming. Here are the stages of closing the case. After measurements and bearing installation, the crankcase is ready for the crankshaft, which gets laid in after gear and rods are installed. Then sealant and silk thread are applied and the halves are closed. Hold down plates are used in place of cylinders to clamp the thru bolts together to ensure the bearings don’t shift post closure.

Pearl in the Rough
Shining on top of a throne of gunk, oil, and rust.
It's crazy how much an idea can morph over time. I had this composition in my head for a long time now, almost since I began, and now that I sat down to work on it, it changed into something very different, something with a completely different intention. It's such an old idea that I think those changes came from me changing as a person as opposed to the regular development of an idea.  Also, it's been an erratic couple of weeks... again. I wish I had more time to sit down and paint, but my other priorities took over my time and energy.
Here is a timelapse of the process. I'm open for commissions!
