George Monibot, writing in the The Guardian, addresses how lobbying distorts and thwarts what's actually good for people in the UK, but it could easily be translated to the US.

"There are some things we rightly find intolerable, such as the possession of poorly trained, aggressive dogs. There are other things, whose impacts are many thousands of times worse, that we decide just to live with. What makes the difference? Visibility is one reason...Ubiquity is another: the more widespread the problem, the more we normalise it... But I think the most important factor is lobbying power.

There is no corporate lobby behind the sale, let alone poor training, of American [pit bulls]. But there are powerful corporate lobbies behind the air pollution devastating many people’s health...

Thanks to the Pollution Paradox – the dirtiest industries have the greatest incentive to invest in politics, so politics comes to be dominated by the dirtiest industries – such lobbies exert a vast impact on political choice. If people were asked to vote on whether they want their hearts and lungs damaged, their children’s cognitive development impaired, extra cancers, more stillbirths, a higher risk of dementia and earlier death, they’d be likely to reject these options. But, thanks to decades of spin, the stark nature of the choice has been obscured."

Astro “notes” seems to have a different meaning on this site, but here is some quick technical information on generational planet cycles if you want to use these transits in your natal readings.

Combining these with hellenistic profections (each year corresponds to a house in the chart--for example, ages 0, 12, and 24 are First House years) can yield some real insights into the next year of a person’s life. (I got this idea from Kirah Tabourn/thestrology!) Additionally, if you use a standard orb of 10 degrees on the major aspects you will find there’s a bit of reverberation on either side of the exact degree, extending into previous or upcoming years.

Saturn transits & the natal chart:

Themes associated with Saturn are typically matters regarding lessons learned over time, authority, restraint and restriction, fathers, etc. Saturn returns are often described as a “time of reckoning,” though transits may be more constructive when dignified, well-aspected, and in day charts (Saturn is in the diurnal sect)

Taking roughly 29 years to travel the zodiac, Saturn makes a hard aspect to your natal placement about every 7 years

For example: first (waxing) square at 7, opposition at 14, waning square at 21, first return (conjunction) at about 28

Some simple math yields:

Waxing squares at roughly ages 7, 35, 63, 91

Oppositions at 14, 42, 70

Waning squares at 21, 49, 77

Conjuntion/Return at 28, 56, 84 (interesting that the 2nd return is around retirement age)

Check an ephemeris and/or map the date(s) somewhere like planetwatcher  or astrodienst to see when the exact aspects happen for you--retrogrades etc will easily screw with these numbers!

Jupiter transits & the natal chart:

Themes associated with Jupiter usually involve fortune, abundance, talent or luck, etc. Jupiter returns can be considered both fortunate times and crises of faith, depending on who you ask. I would imagine the oppositions would be more stressful, and generally we can expect Jupiter to be more giving in day charts, as he is also in the diurnal sect. Of course, consider dignity as well, and in general we can say the house Jupiter is in will be activated somewhat during these transits.

Jupiter takes about 11.6 years to traverse the zodiac, meaning you’ll have a Jupiter return about every 12 years or so. This puts an opposition at about every 6 years and a square every 3.

For example: waxing square at 3, opposition at 6, waning square at 9, return/conjunction at 12. The squares move really fast and retrogrades etc invite errors when generalizing on such a small scale, so I’ll stick to oppositions & returns for now

Some simple math yields:

Oppositions at 6, 18, 30, 42, 54, 66, 78, 90

Returns at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84

Once again, check the ephemeris on the dates when doing a reading. For example, each of the returns may be one year earlier (I can attest to this, having had my Jupiter return soon after turning 23, and then 2 more because of the retrograde >__>). This is just a general idea to keep in the back of your head when looking for things to consider when reading transits ;)

I’ve seen Sam Reynolds talk about the inconjunct/quincunx as important in addition to oppositions etc with Uranus, which moves slower. And as we get further from the Sun we must rely on increasingly minor aspects to fit it within a lifetime, which I think belies just how much these planets indicate happenings on a collective level. (Personally I’m a fan of using the outer planets for world events and cultural shifts.)

Also note that I haven’t included trines or sextiles here. I haven’t seen them included much in planetary cylce discussions generally, so I’m not sure if it’s because we only feel a need to brace ourselves against upcoming struggles or what... If you want to experiment with them, divide the time between returns into thirds and sixths rather than halves and quarters.
