i LOVE shugo chara!!! i really do, to this day it's my favorite magical girl series, i think it has a really great premise. it was one of the first animes i watched all the way through and it pretty much defined me for the first half of 7th grade to the point where i was REALLY upset when i realized i'd never have a guardian chara of my own and i still look at the series fondly for having such a great moral lesson of staying true to yourself and good characters with good development... but at the same time there's so much wrong with it looking back 

the way that ikuto acts towards amu and the way she reacts are pretty much the opposite of how younger girls should be taught to deal with those kinds of advances which is problematic because... younger girls are the target audience of the show... and i genuinely don't understand how you can look at how ikuto acts and not see that as problematic??? i have a 9 year old sister and if anyone acted like that (let alone a high school boy who is effectively a total stranger) towards her i would not hesitate to cause physical damage

there is absolutely nothing justifiable about ikuto's advances towards amu, even the phone call towards the end of the series when they're both marginally older is still disgusting, it's not "cute", it's not "romantic", and trying to act like it's either of those things is. thoughtless at best, and morally dubious and actively harmful at worst. why would you try to defend a character whose interactions with the protagonist basically spell out that if someone touches you without your consent or makes advances without your consent then it's romantic and charming.

i think a huge amount of the issue does lie with how peach-pit originally presented it, but it isn't something that should be perpetrated by the fandom too.

Dragons, you ask?

I'm not really the most qualified person for this, but two people asked about dragons on the pagan tag so I figured I'd tag them both in this ( plexaure  & thewanderersdaughter ) and attempt to help both people together.

I have The Mythical Creatures Bible by Brenda Rosen. NO idea how accurate it is (it lacks a bibliography, which is a worrying sign), but there are at least a dozen pages on dragons in it. So either I'd need a more specific question and I can see if this book has an answer, or a certain type of dragon (from a specific country or mythology, like Norse or Greek.)

If anyone else has resources I missed, please reblog and add! (Or if the resources I listed are faulty. I haven't fact checked any of them.)

do you have anything specific to rec by baths?? i think i listened to 1 or 2 songs and wasn't a fan but...it can take a few tries before i actually like something

tbh id be interested in hearing whatever u have to offer....i wasn't really into listening to music besides soundtracks until a year or two ago + id always like to check out more stuff :O
