Rewatching Fellowship of the Ring has really reminded me how much other fantasy shows/movies love to center on Powerful Superhero Magic Warrior Royals with Noble Destinies, while LOTR just focuses on a sad gay doomed little waif. When will we have another fantasy franchise centered on a main protagonist that is just “a very ordinary friendly little guy who Suffers….”

Ok but imagine Merry and pippin in Erebor and being guests of honor due to being related to Bilbo (even more fun if Thorin lived and consort Bilbo has to watch his idiot cousin-nephews make fools of themselves) most calling them the “Hobbit Fili and Kili”
They go all out during a dwarven party and Bilbo keeps apologizing on their behalf
By the end of the night both Merry and Pippin have countless proposals and suitors looking to marry a relative of thee Bilbo Baggins

'Alas! there are some wounds that cannot be wholly cured,’ said Gandalf.
‘I fear it may be so with mine,’ said Frodo. ‘There is no real going back. Though I may come to the Shire, it will not seem the same; for I shall not be the same. I am wounded with knife, sting, and tooth, and a long burden. Where shall I find rest?’
Gandalf did not answer.
Finallyyy I decided to pick up my apple pen and draw something

Why I don't speak much about Finrod (and my favorite Tolkien character tier list)
It's weird how much I love the type of character that Finrod is too, but I don't talk or overanalyze him as much as I do with Maglor.
I think this is because I can't say anything new about Finrod that has already been said. Finrod's literally perfection on this site.
You know I love him than Maedhros but no one would've guessed that because I just don't talk about them.
I fear that I've "over-posted" about Maglor... and to think, originally, I didn't want this blog to be a fandom one but it became that because of the things I'm interested in and/or think about daily. Hence the blog name and yeah I know this post is pure irony but that's kind of the point.
Anyway, here's my controversial list of my top ten favorite tolkien characters:
1.) Maglor (for complexity and too many other reasons I've posted about already)
2.) Finrod // Fingon (equal pure dorks)
3.) Eowyn (relatable a good thing indeed)
4.) Samwise Gamgee (yass king!)
5.) Manwe (naive dork of a king love him) // Gandalf/Olorin (Favorite chaotic introverted boi)
6.) Elrond // Finarfin (equal "gone through pain but still kind" lords)
7.) Varda // Neinna // Luthien (yasss queenz!)
8.) Maedhros (he reminds me of someone I know so he's down here)
9.) Fingolfin (relatable not a good thing)
10.) Faramir (he's husband material) // Aragorn (You deserved better on this list)
Honorable mention(s): The rest of the hobbit gang in Lotr, including Bilbo Baggins.

Gandalf's reaction to Frodo saying his famous "I'll do it" line will never not leave me deceased, because Gandalf himself, a literal angel, when tasked with a difficult mission in Middle-Earth was like "Please Lord no, I'm scared shitless of Sauron" and here comes this little guy, 4 feet tall in a hat (+2 hairy ones) and goes "Fine fine, I'll walk straight into the devil's maw if you'd like. Just have to find it first. Would appreciate general directions concerning its whereabouts".

Re-reading The Two Towers I realised how bad Sam talks about himself - and how evertime he just repeats what his father told him. He believes himself to be utter useless, dumb and expendable; the only reason he's still there is because he promised Gandalf. And he has a ton of slurs for himself that he also got from Gaffer. In fact, he only stops berating and belittling himself once Frodo explicitly tells him to, and then, right at the end, when he looses Frodo, he immediately starts again (though in that situation I can understand why he is unhappy with the choices he made, allthough he did his best)
I get the overwhelming impression that Sam is actually from an abusive relationship. The only one who was nice to him was Bilbo, who let him in and taught him to read, no doubt despite Gaffer expressing that that's wasted on Sam. That probably also led to Sam being included in Frodo's friend group despite being the only one not from an extremely privileged position (to be honest, I am not sure about Fatty Bolgor).
Sam is pretty intelligent (though he doesn't have all the wisdom and knowledge of Frodo, likely thamks to being working class and not having the time, and also being younger), he is courageous, strong, talented and a poet in his own right, but he never for a second believes in himself, and it all seems to stem from his father's mistreatment. The fact thatvhe even tries poetry no doubt comes from Blbo, too.
I will keep an eye out in The Return of the King to see if that changes, and am very happy that he moves away from home at the end. Not even Rosie could have really protected Sam's damaged ego from consistent slamming by his father had she moved in with the Gamgees as is undoubtedly tradition...
