For me, the saddest part of Corpse Bride was neither that Emily never got to marry Victor nor that he never loved her but the fact she was murdered as a young woman who had a whole life ahead. She wished to be loved by someone, to marry this beloved person & live happy ever after. She couldn’t achieve peaceful rest bc of her unfulfilled desire. By marrying Victor Emily wanted not only to experience love but also to get over her past. The realization that by doing so she will steal another girl‘s dream was more devastating, though. The marriage was stolen from her & now she’s doing the same thing to a poor woman who do not deserve it.

Emily let Victor go to be happy with a woman whom he mutually loved. She fulfilled her desire - she fell in love, indeed.

Nevertheless, I believe Emily wanted for Victoria a life she herself never had, she saw in Victoria her younger self. Making her happy helps Emily accept the tragic past & finally rest. Beautiful sisterhood, a love without envy…
