Ive only ever read(religiously&repeatedly)your h/d stuff.I'm not really a tv person and I'm pretty picky about what I read/watch etcalso I dont have much time, but I love your writing so much.I want to consume it ALL.So I'm wondering if (any) your other works are the kind where I can go in unfamiliar with the derivative source?Or if there isnt, which ones would be quickest to consume so I can hop in and get to your sweet sweet writing?Or which have themes I'd like as a fan of your h/d works.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ASK. Thank you so much for your kind words about my writing.

Unfortunately, I’ve tried, but rarely find myself able to write the Any Two Guys type of fic. I actually think the closest I get is my H/D fic, because I write them as adults who have moved quite beyond the events of canon. Still, you’ll probably notice from my H/D fics that I still rely heavily on canon events that would cause Harry trauma and emotional difficulties, and would cause Draco to feel some guilt or suffer punishment and require forgiveness in Harry’s eyes. I also still rely on magic and the loose premise of the wizarding world, and you’re expected to know characters like Ron and Hermione without explanation.

Most of my stories in other canons are like this. In fact, some require rather intimate knowledge of canon so that the reader can know things that the POV character doesn’t; this is why these stories work.

But! I did write a complete AU in a fandom, The Walking Dead. The show is a super violent gory zombie show that has a lot of boring fighting but some excellent character development and later, some really thoughtful questions about what society is and how it can and should work. The complete AU means no zombies, no gore, no fighting, no anything like that. The AU also posits something about a major character that is not seen at all in canon, though I will say this character in canon is quite reserved so it’s possible to do some interesting things with him.

Anyway, I think it would be very easy to read this series with absolutely zero canon knowledge, and I’m really happy with the series. The first fic is unrequited pining, otherwise, mostly gen. The second fic is really shippy and devolves into lots of porn without a clear ending. The third fic is a pwp you could skip. The last fic occurs after a significant time skip. I just love this series, honestly. It’s a comfort fic for me, and I wrote it at a time in my life when I needed comfort. Please do read the warnings--there’s a bit of emotional and physical abuse. Out of everything I’ve written, that’s the only one that’s possible to read without context, imo. The next three, you could read with only watching one movie each:

Go Your Own Way: I’m a bit embarrassed to rec you this, as I wrote it 9 years ago and um, the porn is not quite how I would write it now. However, this fic is actually the pre-cursor to The Boy Who Only Lived Twice, and if you read it, you’ll be able to see that TBWOLT is basically the same story, except H/D. You would need to watch The Dark Knight for this, although Batman Begins is also rather important. I’m not a fan of Batman Begins, so I’m sorry. But anyway, this is the most like my H/D stories with the least amount of canon to consume.

Sincerely Your Pal : For this one you would just need to watch the first Captain America movie--I can’t really recommend the movie, but I love the characters. I will say this story has a lot of the really intense feelings and self-reflection my H/D stories do, but it’s epistolary so quite different than a lot of things.

Responsible Science: This is a series, and you would need to watch The Avengers. The series is mostly gen, so I would say it’s not really like my H/D stories in that regard, though my writing always tends to deal with themes of self, self-expression, self-control, self-respect, anger, kindness, and limitations of society. I’m proudest of this series out of all the things I’ve written.

I can’t say there’s really anything else you could read without getting a bit of primer on the canon.

30 Days of WITCHversary - 14-18

This week was hectic so Im dumping the last few days all at once.

Ahhh the shit-talking ones, I adore WITCH, but boy do I have some salt.

14- Something that irked you

I have to say the biggest thing is the fact that there simply wasn’t enough dragons, especially past the 2nd arc. Their power origin is dragons(until the late-series retcon nonsense), the motif is ‘you are something more than human now’, and then???? nothing? They forsook the ‘you are not fairies, you are not witches, you are something more ancient, strange, and lovely’ stuff and went sparkle fairy. Oof ouch the retcons.

Dragons all over the four dragons issue, dragons on the restaurant, Nerissa’s panel here? dragon.

This isnt something that the comic is guilty of only either, the show is guilty of it too, and they had no excuse, the comic was already out pretty far, and they wanted a show that appealed to boys, so why didn’t they go all in???

There were dragons on Taranee’s laptop when they talked about quintessence, there were dragons in the origins episode, there was dragons in the Phobos fight, in the one where Nerissa tries to take Earths Heart the first time, and there was the mention in the last episode, but did we see anymore dragons? Especially as their Zenith forms which I’ve complained about before was the PERFECT opportunity to tie in the motif? No.

There should have been way more dragon flavor.

Some dragon-shaped auras, the zenith deus ex transformation should have been dragons, Id have even taken totally western dragons, just,,, pls. More dragons emblazoned on coats and people referring to them as dragons. Maybe have part of Phobo’s goal be becoming a dragon. IDK just toss more in there!

And why did they strip the dragons out in the later arcs? My answer is Marketing. Things needed to be pink and sparkly or they are seen as encroaching on different demographis, and not sellable, as CEOs love the minmaxing. Dragons aren’t considered cute, for some reason, and so they had to go. That cash cow was primed to be power-milked until it died. And well. It did.

Im not saying that the shift in priorities from juicy dragon-flavored undertone creeping horror of being uninformed newly minted child soldiers against their will to sparkily faerie idols who do magic sometimes and smooch a lot of boys totally killed it but... Well... 

You know.

You can tell im salty about this, and have been salty about this for over a decade, can’t you.

15- Something that needs a quick fix

In the beginning issues, some of the wording implies the only worlds are Meridian, which is just basically hell, Kandrakar, which is basically heaven, and Earth, and no other worlds. Which is all well and dandy, except.... 2 arcs later that stops being the case.

Change that, because it goes off the rails from that view so fast its not even funny. The simplistic, ‘Meridian evil lizards, Kandrakar good glowing green immortal gods or whatever’ can stay, I guess, because its part of the deconstruction of the ‘evil’ world and ‘good’ world, with Earth as the purgatory thing that media does but just. Right from the start say ‘multiverse’ ‘many worlds’ ‘many dimensions’ one or any of those. It would be just the tiniest, but most wonderful continuity fix.

Just a couple word changes, no panels need to be changed at all.

Something that needs an overhaul

The retcons and plotholes in general. Ive spat quite a bit of salt about the retcons and plotholes already but. WITCH has an undeniable plothole and retcon problem. I love WITCH more than anything, but oh man. It has that one glaring, unfixable flaw.

There are regular adaption plotholes in the cartoon (Biggest one- Why did Yan Lin not give them lessons on how to fight, negotiate, what powers they have and can grow to have, the species that live on Earth and Meridian, a primer into the history of Kandrakar and the other worlds when she was ALIVE to give them?? They didn’t have them and didn’t know anything in the comic, because she DIED and Kandrakar wasn’t gonna go shit for WITCH! They were ALONE!) but oh no, im talking about the comic more than anything.

Everything contradicts itself just. So Much.

It would be fine if it were an american-style comic where each run is its own canon, but its trying to be serial and im dying squirtle.

Decide whether their wings are stylized feathers or butterfly wings or what (in ONE chapter book they changed the canon 3 times!!). 

Decide whether dragons are their powers or not, how their powers even work, what time of year and how old they are judging from the canonical minimum of days that have passed, how serious their job of defending the universe is. Pick a set of truths and stick with them!!!! Twists are ok and you can change the focus and tone over time but you cant just. Kick out established truths and replace them with shit that makes previous nonsense invalid. The overhaul needs to chose their truths BEFORE they start and then stick with it the whole way through!

And their truths they say and then never talk about why they came about need to be de-plotholed. Kandrakar has a noninterference policy? Why? What the fuck does that mean and how come they can send the guardians then? Kandrakar commands the dragons, yeah? Ok, why do they leave them alone all first arc. Matt was part of Kandrakar? Yeah, why didnt he train them into the dirt and not tell them anything whatsoever? Why did he base his relationship with Will on a den of lies that totally shit on his character before that arc????

What it needs to get this overhaul is just a total reboot that takes all these truths and plots, and makes them one cohesive thing.

Only problem. I dont want this fandom getting The V0ltr0n Treatment. I couldnt bear it, to have it get really popular and be filled with people who think its ok to threaten VAs and suicide bait and viciously bully people for daring to have redemption arcs in their fics. I don’t want this place to become a place of fear, I dont want to have the cozy atmosphere be transformed into a hectic high-traffic disk horse zone, even if it gets us an official Perfect WITCH Cartoon.

So no matter how much I want WITCH to have this flawless unfucking of the plotholes... I think I’ll be content with it the way it is.

17 - Something that needs to be revisited

Previous guardians can give us padding arcs until the writers figure out how to plot the main stuff, previous guardians can give us worldbuilding, previous guardians can give us backstory for characters we have met, and can give us villains that feel connected to the current plot.

How neat would it be if we had an issue following Kadma and halinor setting up their magic Illuminati? 

How neat would it be if we had Luba and Yan Lin working together while Yan Lin was still active?

How neat would it be if we got a more in-depth Nerissa origins story, complete with what she plans to do after she stamps all over Kandrakar for the inhumane 40+ years of solitary confinement?

How wonderful, storywise, it would be to have villains and allies who knew past guardians, howevermany cycles back, to see and hear of guardians before, and how they failed, but this time, WITCH wont?

Hey, amidst this crisis since my workplace might be one of the busiest places right now, can I just give a few pointers for going to a post office / UPS / FedEx from the perspective of a UPS employee? Because I know now more than ever more of you are coming to our stores because amazon purchases have gone through the roof, and with it, returns have too.

Please keep in mind that right now a lot of these postal service locations are going to be understaffed and those who are left are getting crushed under the mountains of work. No joke, the amount of packages is causing a lot of the truck drivers to double their routes. So please pay attention to some of these tips, k?

First off. Amazon Returns. If it is small, you can pick to drop it off without a box or a label. Amazon will give you a small QR Code. Please put your item in some kind of wrapping or packing if possible despite this, even if it doesn’t have to be boxed up, it will save us a crap load of time. Queue up the QR code in your phone, usually as a screenshot with the description of the items associated just below it if able. Amazon is also feeling the brunt of these returns, so if you do this over the phone, please double check everything.

Sometimes you will end up with a QR code for Kohl’s. You will know because they are extremely intricate compared to the ones for UPS. We can’t take those and I can’t stress this enough, while you can try and call amazon, we WILL have to move on to help other people or at very least do other tasks. Sometimes you will be given a label to print out. Since most UPS and FedEx’s are franchised out, you may have to pay to have that label printed out, and charges may vary from location to location. Amazon can change these around for you, but it’s really hard to get ahold of their customer service rn.

If you have bought somethibg BIG or ELECTRONICALLY COMPLEX or UNIQUELY SOURCED please do not be surprised if your QR code is met with some resistance. If the item is more than 18 inches long we will not be able to package it with the other 200 something items dropped off in our consolidation boxes, so we will insist it gets shipped separately. This means you will want to pack it yourself, as we will CHARGE FOR PACKAGING and the box alone might cost $7 - 10 to accommodate, and even more if you want us to pack it. I say this because amazon is going to tell you it’s going to be free, but here’s the thing? Franchised locations, aka most locations, have to pay for the boxes, the tape, padding, etc. and what Amazon pays us to consolidate is kinda shit in comparison. So if a fully loaded 18x18x18 box is only going to net our location like, $5-6, then you bet your ass we don’t have the resources to accommodate a special packaging that’s outside of the contractually agreed upon boxes. And each location is going to have their own pricing, and most aren’t really going to have wiggle room, because you’ll most likely be speaking to either the owner who set those prices in the first place, or one of the last employees who REALLY want to keep their jobs and can’t make exceptions. Also, for the other items like electronics or unique items, they often don’t get sent to the same locations as the items being consolidated, meaning the system won’t even let us consolidate if we wanted to, so they will also have to be individually packed. It’s better safe than sorry, always, if you aren’t sure it can go into consolidations or not. The amazon employee who helps you might not know the true answer to this question.

Those upcharges come from corporate, not from the individual locations, as do all the rates for shipping, so we cannot discount them.

Flat Rate Shipping Boxes are not offered by UPS though I admittedly don’t know about Fed Ex. Boxes themselves are usually charged separately, but price is determined by distance, weight, and package size. It goes without saying, but a 60 inch long package going across the country might cost $100 minimum even if it only ways 6 lbs. side note, you may have noticed that UPS and Fed Ex rates have gone way up because they can’t handle the loads going out the same way.
