#related note i saw the revived version of bullseye at christmas and it was a thing of beauty#it was like seeing an edwardian house with all of the period features intact. they hadn’t touched the format at all aside from exchanging#bully’s star prize for an electric mini cooper (covetous) rather than a speedboat (white elephant)#if you brought back jim bowen on that set there and then he’d have known it. let’s play fucking darts#sorry for being nostalgic for 1980s television programme bullseye this bewildered my wider family too. do you people not watch Challenge#only thing i really miss that wasn’t retained was when the contestants used to win their money and jim bowen used to count it out there and#then from notes in his jacket. [announcer voice] innnnnnnnn one ! a canteen of cutlery…… innnnnn two ! a colour television

i think game jams are a test of patience of how close you can get to snapping at someone
#'can you add this feature' no its due in 6 hours 'can you move these buttons around' im in the middle of doing something else#literally asked me to stop working on a feature that i was pretty much done programmint and then said 'we dont need it anyways :)'#our group's artist is legit driving me insane like do you want fries with that too?? want me to move the text 2px to the left??#just fucking download unity yourself and do it jfc we have a laundry list of like 10 other things to do#also in almost every game jam i've worked on where i'm programming with another (usually male) programmer-#-when i push something that is FINISHED and DONE occasionally i glance over it after a few more commits and-#-find that the other programmer has decided to completely restructure the code :) and it works exactly the same!#like that's rude right? that's fucking rude and i'm not just a crazy woman about it???????? to rewrite the work someone else ALREADY DID????

Inspector Morley, Late of Scotland Yard, Investigates: The Case of the Scarlet Letters (1.3, WGN-TV, 1952)
"Mr. Mullins, I have in my possession sixty-eight letters, none of which has begun to outlive its usefulness. I'm quite prepared to admit that blackmail is risky, but then murder has its disadvantages too - that is why I gave up murder."
#inspector morley late of scotland yard investigates#inspector morley late of scotland yard#(there's some confusion about the correct title of this series; it appears onscreen with 'investigates' but many online sources omit the#final word and it wouldn't be unique in having a title screen that differed slightly from the official name of the show; either way it's a#hell of an unwieldy name for your programme.....)#classic tv#1952#john gilling#victor m. gover#tod slaughter#patrick barr#tucker mcguire#leonard sharp#another rediscovered gem made available by the good folks at kaleidoscope#oof. ok. so the story of Inspector Morley is complicated and still semi mysterious (the show is 70 years old after all‚ there's precious#little surviving documentation). as far as it goes‚ this was a UK production intended for sale to the BBC (there existing no independent tv#company in 1952). the beeb‚ for whatever reason‚ passed on the series. 13 episodes had been made and of these about seven were cobbled#together into feature films to recoup some of the costs; those survived and saw occasional outings on rainy afternoon tv schedules here#it was thought that the remainder were junked‚ but research (not my own i hasten to add) has revealed that the whole series was in fact sol#to the US where it was shown on WGN (a Chicago based station i believe). when kaleidoscope recovered this particular episode some 6 or 7#years ago‚ it was thought to be the sole surviving episode‚ at least in its original format (ie. not edited into a feature). actually it#sounds like they might all exist and a few are even on youtube (including this one). this is very early detective tv and it shows its age#not just in its ropey visuals (it's all quite soft and fuzzy) but in its very old fashioned shape and design‚ which is closer to mid#century film than what television would shortly become. that sensation is only furthered by the presence of the immortal Tod Slaughter‚ a#bastion of early british cinema and one of the first horror icons the uk ever produced. unusually‚ it seems like he starred in most (if not#all) of the episodes of the series; unusual bc he plays the villain‚ opposite Barr's staunch ex copper Morley. having a recurring villain#must certainly have helped when editing the shows into films for cinema release but it was quite a strange choice for tv#tho perhaps a set cast reduced costs (this was clearly a budget production‚ tho it does feature some impressive early location shooting)#Slaughter is great fun‚ in full scenery chewing mode as the wicked and unrepentant mastermind behind all sorts of crimes#Barr even has personal beef with him‚ though it would require seeing the other eps to fully understand it i suspect

Finally making a timeliness design-guide for Geno from ec-4o.verse! (Just a wip tho)
#spot!drawn#ec 4o!geno#he goes through a progression in this au unlike a lot of the others#because at one time he was more of a 'Sans' style guy until his setting and circumstances changed him for the worse#far left is pre-war when he's just a programming upstart. i mean he's a boss monster so he's been *programming* for years and years#but he's doing his own project as a volunteer on the side and that's where his real prowess comes from. he programs ecto (robot) AIs!#in this part of the design he's very casual and relaxed and it also features A.Z.! AZ is his first breakthrough because he's an#ultra-realistic ai with no magic infused who was supposed to be used to study mental illnesses in children w/o putting real kids in harsh#environments. but he kept A.Z. as he was the 'prototype' and now Geno monitors him and makes sure his programs function right while also#lowkey highkey raising AZ because he got attached#of course then there's mid-war which is technically also a bit before the war but technicalities don't count.#Geno is a talented programmer. the government (for Nefarious Plans) blackmail him into working at one of their facilities on new updates#for Ectos nation-wide. he doesn't exactly have a choice but he's far too deep in by the time he really understands what the new#protocols are for. then there's Post-war where he's sustained a lot of injuries and takes on his final 'Geno' appearance#at this point he's just trying to survive in the apocalypic wastes and finish what he started (cleaning the aftermath of the war)#but yeagg#the silly#(the government took his robot son but it's okay. he gets two mentally unstable boyfriends and reunites with AZ eventually)

Tbh now that I'm sitting down and (somewhat) forcing myself to play through project diva more than just unlocking every song it's very obvious that most of my issues with it are just what i'm going to dub "first game syndrome".
#art talks about stuff#i'm definitely not the first to come up with a diagnosis of this sort but like#it's the lack of beloved features introduced in later titles. it's the cool ideas with a kinda botched execution causing them to be scrappe#it's the weird little quirks and oddities that just show that the programmers were seeing what to do for the first time#and i get that#i'm still not going to forgive sega for only allowing action button inputs though do you want me to sprain my thumb

You can tell all the people in the comments have NEVER used Linux as a non-programmer. I can tell you from experience- the ability to uninstall Edge is not worth 99% of apps not working and the other 1% be significantly buggier. I'm sure it's good for programmers or people with ideological issues with big software- but otherwise it's just more frustrating to do literally anything.
Telling young zoomers to "just switch to linux" is nuts some of these ipad kids have never even heard of a cmd.exe or BIOS you're throwing them to the wolves
#The only Linux feature I liked better was that there was more keyboard options#Keep in mind that I was using Linux Mint- the 'user friendly' Linux#I'm tired of people acting like Linux is magically better- it's good for what it is but it's still meant for programmers not laypeople#Don't get me started on Endeavor OS#There is NO REASON modern software opens the terminal rather than the program you clicked on#rant#cw caps
