NEW Project Rene Leak (Formerly "The Sims 5") Screenshots and Information
The Original Post: Here
EDIT: I had to edit my post because there was some massive misinformation going around. Project Rene is NOT cancelled. This playtest is CURRENTLY ONGOING. The screenshots are from 9/27/24 on a LIVE SERVER. The only difference is that it is no longer going by the internal name of "The Sims 5". The game is still coming out. It is just not going to be called The Sims 5. Thank you.
Hello! I am back once again to post more coverage of the upcoming game from EA/Maxis currently titled "Project Rene". This game was FORMERLY known as The Sims 5, which we all know is cancelled now. To be clear, this game was previously advertised and flaunted as "The next generation of the Sims". Just yesterday, a small scale playtest was hosted containing a new section of the game containing a basic Live Mode. I have personally played the game for a couple of hours now and I will be sharing a lot of my findings.
NOTE: This is likely a "Part 1" of this full leak!! We are working on a full datamine as we speak to hopefully uncover some more hidden details, similarly to the previous Rene-lated posts from a few months ago.
You can find my previous post containing screenshots/videos from the FIRST build containing the full map + build mode here:
Throughout this post, I will try my best to keep my opinions out of the facts. My goal is to only provide accurate information without all the extra fluff.
What is Project Rene?
From the Google Play Store itself:
The Sims Labs: The Hub
Details
About this game
Explore a Parisian neighborhood full of unique activities and stylish rewards
Welcome to The Sims Labs: The Hub! Pick your Sim - each a unique character with their
own story - and join friends & other players to explore a vibrant Parisian neighborhood
together. Claim new outfits from the Thrift Shop by working at the local café or by
completing quests. Make your wishes come true at the plaza fountain, discover hidden
collectibles, meet the locals, and more.
The Sims Labs games are prototype experiences focused on testing small chunks of
larger game concepts. The features in this app do not necessarily represent the direction
or content of any upcoming Sims game.

The Bigger Picture (Based on previously generally known information about this game): To put it simply, Project Rene takes place in a Paris inspired world, is just one game part of a much larger container called "The Sims Hub". This is not anything leaked, and was actually shown off previously at the EA investor day not too long ago. (Screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/AvmH1hx ) The Sims Hub contains The Sims 4, MySims, The Sims: Project Stories, and of course Project Rene. Project Rene is focused heavily on a collaborative multiplayer experience, where sims can travel to and interact in the same area. They can talk to each other, Work with each other, build friendships and relationships with other real players, and there is even a text/voice chat function. You can also build/buy together in a multiplayer session. There ARE still npc sims you can interact with, much like previous sims installments.
Let's get into it. This build was unfortunately only available on Mobile(Android), despite the first build having a full PC version (Containing Denuvo) as well. I cannot go into exactly what device I am using as it could potentially be used to identify myself, but let's just say it's a "mid-range" device released very recently. I am also running everything at Max settings.
The Gameplay:
The gameplay from this playtest is focused solely on a VERY small portion of the whole game. The elements such as build mode and owning your own apartments from the first playtest is completely absent from this build.
In this build, there is no Create a Sim. It was confirmed from a developer that it is coming in a future playtest. You are able to pick from 4 preset Sims (Shown below in the screenshots section). There are also no preset names for these Sims. There was one Sim I managed to glitch into that DID have a preset name "Rory". This character is not obtainable legitimately.
Once your Sim is picked, the game will immediately display some initial quests to get you started. These quests change daily. The main gameplay of this build has you working at a cafe with other players. Once you start working, NPC sims will start coming in and sitting down. Somebody has to take their order and it will display a bubble above their heads showing what item they want. Then, you or another player has to go and collect those items. They can choose from Coffee, Espresso, or Croissant. They cannot choose more than one item at this time (eg. Croissant + Coffee). This is the main way to earn money in this build, and it can get very repetitive and grindy after a while. Especially since the jobs don't give you that much simoleons. The other way to make simoleons is just by levelling up. You can earn XP from wishing at the fountain, talking to sims, or completing quests, or working at the cafe. There were only 5 levels to obtain during this test, each one giving Simoleons or a new name badge.
You can spend those hard earned simoleons at the Clothing shop. You cannot customize your outfit, and are forced to choose between 5 preset outfits (Shown in better detail in the screenshots section). I am NOT sure at the moment if these outfits are different depending on which character you chose during the introduction, and there is no way to reset your Sim at the moment to choose a different character, so this is all I can show at the moment.

Misc Loading Screen: https://imgur.com/a/dQuMFj5
First of all, the graphics genuinely do look like this. It's not your device, its not compression. It does have a weird blur over everything and looks very grainy. I won't pick at the graphics too hard because optimization is usually the last stage of game development and it's clear they opted for performance over visual clarity.
Also, apologies for the heavy censoring. With online games like this, every interaction is logged on the server. I wanted to hide as much information as possible. This is also why there are no videos.
Final Remarks:
Please feel free to ask me any questions about this playtest and I will answer to the best of my ability. I have access until tomorrow night, so I can fulfil any requests until then. After that, It's all just based on previous knowledge.
Thank you.

There’s a lot that was shown in the latest Sims Project Rene playtest for Smartphones. Including a look into the potential character creator, multiplayer careers and build challenges, manual sim movement and plenty more!
Here’s everything we’ve noticed from City Life Game with Friends playtest from EA and Maxis. Huge thanks to YouTube creators Techzamazing, Gaming Mobile and Adeptless for uploading footage of this playtest.
Career Gameplay
There’s a new Barista Career in this Sims Project Rene Smartphone playtest. Where a player can work a day shift with other Sims and choose to work either as a server, a barista or a little bit of everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interestingly enough, there’s no full controlled autonomy here. You’re fully responsible of the customers in your Coffee shop. You’ll have to ring up your customers and serve them coffee in real time before they get too angry.
Tumblr media
For me, this looks like a minigame within a minigame. And the rewards, or in this case a paycheck is the currency Simoleons I’ve talked about earlier. You can see fully how your shift went and what the statistics of your customers are during your work time.
Tumblr media
Decorate Together Multiplayer Challenge
The theme: Foodie Café. The time: 5 minutes.
In this Sims Project Rene playtest, you have five minutes to design a Café with your multiplayer companion. You can choose between different Furniture, Seating, Surfaces, Accents, Plants, Lighting and Decorations.
You can freely place down and rotate items to any degree. Plus, all surface items now have an appropriate surface level field where you can place down additional clutter and objects!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Game Options
Graphic Settings customization is pretty detailed for a smartphone playtest. You can customize Shadows, View Distance, Anti-Aliasing and Post Processing quality from Low to Max.
In the Camera setting, you can customize the movement, rotation and zoom speed. There are some additional features for Audio, including Binaural Audio which improves the immersive audio experience for headphone users. Giving you more of a “Dolby Atmos” experience for The Sims.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is everything we could find from City Life Game With Friends playtest for The Sims Project Rene!
What are your thoughts on all the features shown above? As a reminder, please note that all features shown are subject to change and do not represent the final product of The Sims Project Rene.

Here’s everything we’ve noticed from City Life Game with Friends playtest from EA and Maxis. Huge thanks to YouTube creators Techzamazing, Gaming Mobile and Adeptless for uploading footage of this playtest.
Playtest Story Introduction
The Sims Project Rene Smartphone Playtest called City Life Game with Friends has a unique preset story creator the first time you open up the game. This allows you to choose your Sim’s preferred pronouns, body types, outfits and personality.
This doesn’t reflect any customization options that you’re further allowed to make within Create A Sim in the final planned version of Project Rene. But rather the first Sim that you’ll be starting your playtest story with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sim Customization
City Life Game With Friends smartphone playtest for The Sims Project Rene has different customization options than you would expect.
There are premade hairstyles and outfits that are selectable in this Project Rene playtest. Including the option to choose a Hair Style, Head Shape and customize your Sim’s outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What’s disappointing from this playtest is that EA seems to also be playtesting a Sims Freeplay / Mobile-like transaction fee for in-game items. Including having to spend virtual Sim currency in order to obtain items.
However, in this playtest, all in-game currency can be earned through gameplay quests and multiplayer activities. Including Build Challenges, Career Shifts and more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re interested in customizing your Sim’s hairstyle a bit more in-depth, you can definitely do so in detailed mode. Including Hue, Saturation and Brightness of 4 different parts of your hairstyle
Tumblr media
Sim Needs
Sim’s Needs in The Sims Project Rene playtest for Smartphones are broken down to 5 different categories, based on the playtest quests they offer:
Hunger
Relaxation
Socialization
Creativity
Ambition / Quests
Tumblr media
The introduction is pretty normal from what you’d expect for a playtest. Send your Sim to go eat from a Vending Machine. Then go and make a wish at a fountain to help them relax.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Manual Sim Movement
The left side of the smartphone has touch input, meaning that you can control your Sim’s movement by sliding your finger across the phone. In theory, this means that the desktop version of The Sims Project Rene could feature WASD type of movement for Sims on the keyboard.
Tumblr media
The movements look somewhat natural but still in testing development. There are still some jitters inbetween different animations and stopping /triggering manual Sim movement.
Socialization
The socialization aspect of City Life Game with Friends features Sim interactions that you would expect. Except this time it’s all happening in real time, in multiplayer, with Sims by other players!
Tumblr media
The playtest seemed to be big enough to carry around over a dozen Sims in the same server.
Another interesting aspect of socialization is that you can now “Emote” on other Sims and give live reaction feedback. At the moment in the game this is presented through speech bubbles.
Tumblr media
Creative Gameplay
You can learn new Skills in this playtest including Painting and Guitar. However, there’s nothing special or new that we’ve noticed in terms of how the game mechanisms go.

Old The Sims Project Lene Leak Shows Age Sliders In Action
CONFIRMED: Sims in Project Rene have an actual bone structure!
User @thesarahmilani reports about Age Sliders being found as a skeleton structure within the Rene leak files from September 2024. Compared to the Age Slider leaks for The Sims 4, Project Rene Age Sliders also include changing your Sim’s height and entire bone structure. Meaning that each height difference in Project Rene could potentially mean a different age group.
See the full video captured by @thesarahmilani, showcasing the skeleton and limb structure behind the scenes.
Updates on Weight Sliders
It seems Weight Distribution for The Sims Project Rene Models has also been updated. This also refers to the models and leaked The Sims Labs version from September 2024.

The Sims Project Rene Smartphone Playtest: City Life Game with Friends
EA launches a new limited-time smartphone playtest for The Sims Project Rene.
The new playtest titled City Life Game with Friends seems to be focusing solely on Smartphone players. Possibly collecting analytical data from free roaming players to discover game optimization and user experience preferences.
Here’s everything we’ve gathered from this playtest so far:
City Life Game with Friends Intro
Welcome to City Life Game with Friends! Create your character – a unique person with their own look, style, and story – and join friends & other players to explore a vibrant neighborhood together. Claim new outfits from the Thrift Shop by working at the local Café or by completing quests. Develop your skills in art, music, and conversation. Work together to design block party venues, make your wishes come true at the plaza fountain, discover hidden collectibles, and more.
By joining this playtest, you will be helping to test small parts of a larger game concept. The features in this app do not necessarily represent the direction or content of any upcoming game.

Official Test Screens
The Google Play Store listing of this Sims Project Rene playtest has also listed out four official screenshots. Showcasing the updated vibrant shadows and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of phone do I need to play City Life Game with Friends?
You can play City Life Game with Friends on an Android phone. To make sure the game runs smoothly, your device needs at least 4GB of RAM and Android version 12 or higher.
My friend tried to find the game on the app store, but couldn’t. Why is that?
That’s because City Life Game with Friends is in a special test right now! Only players in certain areas can download and play it. We’re testing it out with a small group first.
How long can I play the game?
You can play City Life Game with Friends until April 4th, 2025! Here’s when the game will close in different time zones:
Australia (AEST): 6 AM
Philippines (PHT): 3 AM
UTC (Universal Time): April 4th, 7 PM
How do I move my character around the city?
To walk around and explore in City Life Game with Friends, you’ll use two special pads on your screen. The one on the left side helps you move your character forward, backward, and side-to-side, like a joystick on a game controller! The one on the right side lets you turn the camera and change which way your character is facing. You can also make the screen bigger or smaller by pinching your fingers together or spreading them apart. That’s how you zoom in and out!
How do I start a “Cafe Shift” or “Decorate Together” activity
To start a new activity or join one that’s already happening, look for the activity sign! The activity sign has a bouncing pink icon above it with a coffee icon for “Cafe Shift” and a chair for “Decorate Together”. Tap on it, and you’ll be able to choose “Start” or “Join”.
Why does my character suddenly stop doing the action I asked them to do
Sometimes, if you move the camera or touch the joystick while your character is doing something, the action will stop. So, try to keep your character still until they’re finished!
I want to change my character’s name and gender. How do I do that?
Oh, that’s a good idea! Right now, since this is a test version of the game, you can’t change your character’s name or gender. But don’t worry, we’re planning to add that feature in the future!
What will happen to the game app when the playtest is over? Is uninstallation required?
After the playtest ends, the game app will no longer work. You may then uninstall it from your device.
Will I receive any communication regarding the game after the playtest concludes?
If you have opted in to receive marketing emails from EA in your account settings, you may receive a feedback survey concerning your playtest experience.

A First Look at the New Sims Rebrand Video
Looking to the future
Despite some small snags in communication, it's still full steam ahead for the series. When asked if The Sims 4 would be getting some kind of major overhaul a la World of Warcraft or Runescape anytime soon, Pearson doesn't appear to be super jazzed about such a large-scale undertaking just yet. "We certainly entertain everything," she tells me. "I mean, we talk about all the different paths forward and what makes sense and what to do with The Sims 4 or any of our games."
I think that The Sims continues to be this kind of funhouse mirror to the world, and that's why it keeps growing and evolving and shifting and changing.
Pearson said there are "so many different ways" to go about potentially giving The Sims 4 some sort of technical or graphical overhaul, and pointed towards the current ongoing effort to tidy up a decade of lingering bugs through the game's regular laundry lists fixes. "I think it's a question of looking at all those pieces and parts and saying 'Which pieces really need the biggest overhaul? Can we do them in parallel? Do we need to do that fundamental scaffolding?'"
For now, Pearson says the priority is "a continuing audit of what does the game need right now? What is the game going to need in a year or two years? And what is the best way to get to that thing?"
So it doesn't seem like anything major is coming our way yet, but honestly I don't particularly mind. A focus on patching some of the more lingering issues up feels like the best direction to take right now, especially as we could be sticking with The Sims 4 for several more years at this point.

I literally cannot BELIEVE how EA has killed TS5 before it even started. Like they legit went "oh shit, oh fuck, we have a competitor, we better do something!!!"
Then they got one of the devs to go on camera and say VERBATIM "We're trying to get away with doing as little as possible" while showing us what looked like TS4 with nothing new
...and THEN they announced that TS5 would a free-to-play game with what I'm guessing is reduced modding support.
Wow, I just... That's amazing. It's amazing how incompetent someone can be.

Imagine being a TS4 higher up being like "we NEED to get something out before LBY is announced" and then after it is you have to like continually put out these half-hearted updates.
Then, like, after being accused of half-assing for nearly a decade you legit let one of your producers go on camera and literally say "We're trying to get away with doing as little as possible."
i can imagine poor whats-her-face getting off camera like "I did a GREAT job today!" and her boss showing up like
Tumblr media
"you said we're doing WHAT????"

Also, not to be all "i told you so" but like a few years ago I was like "EA is killing The Sims" and a bunch of people got fuck mad at me? And I was like "there either won't be a sims 5 or it will be free to play"?
I mean, I'm fine because I'm happy with the sims games we have the modding community that is thriving but... like, guys, the way the economy and the tech industry is companies like EA just aren't interested in creating quality products. ESPECIALLY not for IPs like The Sims.
They're on a sinking ship and they KNOW it. Why do you THINK they've been spending money on shit like reality shows and not the game? They literally started off this job description with "HELP US STOP BLEEDING PLAYERS!! DEAR GOD!!!!"
