Pulse the Robot

Here's my metamy fankid </3 His name is Pulse, and that little flicky is his pet/friend, Beepy. Yes he named her, but because she doesn't make the same sound as other flickies. She beeps and Pulse has the intellect of a 7 year old so he was "yes this is a great name" Pulse can speak like Neo Metal could, but it is hard for him at times. He prefers using his morse code. Despite looking intimedating, he's actually gentle and tries his hardest to protect nature. Thing is sometimes while doing so, he destroys it because of being a destructive robot. Beepy likes to rest in his core, which because of how 'the power of friendship' works in the Sonic universe, this actually boosts Pulse's energy, without draining Beepy's.

i gotta say, learning to program and work with computers has really taken the thrust out of the "technology is a form of divine" poetry aesthetic. you think this thing is an angel?? depending on how you talk to it, it cant add 2 to 2.0 unless you whisper special instructions. all it does is math. it is a glorified mathematician. and it cant always add. this things an idiot

btw if you are interested in specifically the "people developing emotional 'bonds' with things that are not real alive human or sentient" element of some of the more extreme but real and troubling chatbot use cases, sherry turkle's alone together was kind of billed as a book about the problems with social media when it came out but the first half, which i found much more interesting when i read it, was actually about human-robot interactions and the already documented reality that it's very hard for many people to interact with something that behaves in what is perceived as a lifelike manner without mentally grafting qualities of life-having onto it. really interesting stuff!

I have learned that Signal is terrified of monsters/ghosts because his dumb robot brain cannot comprehend their existence since they do not fit in the category of what he understands as a living being. And this boy will run screaming from them, and faint if exposed to too many of them.

And my sis sent me a different pic of the Rapunzel meme, and I realized I could do the same with these bozos.

Also side note I barely met Pulse in the manga, and Signal's first response to hearing he had a prototype was to go "I guess he's my big brother" and when he first meets Pulse some moron had reprogrammed Pulse to kill Signal, but despite spending the entire time before now complaining that there was no one worthy to fight Signal still refuses to fight Pulse at first because "We're brothers! There's no reason to fight!" qvq He's such a good boy. These two are both so great.
