in my head there's a garak/pythas lok fic set like..... maybe a few months after tain's death? where garak is suddenly hit with the realization that tain isn't watching him anymore. now it's really truly only lok who'd ever monitor a live feed of garak's quarters. and that's hot.

It's probably a good thing I don't have a paper copy of A Stitch in Time because I would attack that thing with a set of highlighters and there would barely be a word spared. My ebook reader has 3 different colors of highlighting and I really need like 5 or 6 😭

Anyway, I'm at the scene where Barkan calls Pythas Garak's "mate" and I had to read the sentence 3 times before I realized he meant they were paired up for sparring practice 😂

I’m absolutely obsessed with A Stitch in Time by Andy Robinson, and by extension the wonderful world building on Cardassia Prime and it’s culture.

I present my interpretation of Pythas Lok!

I am doing a gentle series of Cardassian portraits (we’ll see how long that lasts though) but it’s been a very fun exercise thus far.

Lysander's last moments with Cassius and Pytha show better than anything what sort of family they were to him on the Archi. Lysander had his complaints, and Cassius apologized for his shortcomings, but Lysander grew up with complete confidence that Cassius and Pytha loved him. Their love was such a constant for him that even after he utterly betrayed them, he still expected and was surprised and hurt not to hear some kind words from them. Characters in these books think Lysander was privileged to be born heir to the Morning Chair, but his real privilege was this little family he got. It's incredible to me that he could choose to trade in that kind of love for some boxed diseases.

pythas lok during the bamarren chapters, or: your crush texts you 'wanna come over and look at my lizard' and when you do get there there is in fact a lizard. (to be fair it's a pretty cool lizard)

This has always been a big source of mystery for me when reading A Stitch In Time and there’s tons of contradictory information. In some parts, Garak describes himself as a grown man, in other parts he’s described as a kid. Some students in his group have not gone through the brunt of puberty yet (developing their ridges) which implies a younger age, and Garak is old enough to have developed a semblance of sexual interest, but he also does come off as naive regarding that topic in some ways (that comment about not understanding what his teacher meant by female students being a distraction didn’t read as a joke to me, though maybe you interpreted it differently) I’m just curious what age range everyone was envisioning when reading this book.

I headcannoned for this drawing that as a kid, Garak would attempt to emulate his hair in the signature Cardassian military haircut so he could look like Tain.
