same page, different perspectives

sand and ray's entire relationship theyve thought they were in entirely different books but they were on the same damn page the whole time

just one of them happened to be reading the book upside down at all times

what he (likely) meant: we cant be "just friends" who have sex

what ray (likely) heard: reassure me this wont change anything between us

so ray then says this:

what sand hears is that ray doesnt want anything more than friendship (with sex) from him so he agrees to it, reiterating that point.

and this sets the tone for their whole relationship moving forward right up until episode 9 when they were finally honest about their feelings towards each other.
