it’s not often a song comes to you in one fell swoop, and it’s even less often that it all happens in front of a camera…but that is how Violet, the song, came to be. The story goes that my friend and incredible Fender rep, @mschulz83, had sent me a new guitar they had been working on for me to try out. It was a mahogany finish acoustic/electric Fender Highway series. It showed up at my door and i took it out of the box and decided to make a quick video for him as a thank you, and let him know i was indeed playing it and checking it out. But all too often i get self conscious with those types of social media video things, what the hell do you play? Do you just riff around? Am i supposed to play an original tune from one of my bands, or is Wonderwall or the beginning of Metallica’s One more appropriate? Maybe a deeper cut would be more cool? Anyway i just ended up winging it and what came out felt as if i was just kinda channeling whatever the universe wanted to hear. This is that video, and Violet, the song…or at least 90% of it, is what ended up coming out of my hands and from that guitar my good friend Michael sent me. I named the demo Violet because as i got to what i imagined would be the “chorus” i started vocalizing a melody and only one real word. (That’s how i write vocal melodies usually. Just gibberish and consonant sounds over jangly guitar into a phone or tape recorder that i can later go back and try and decipher like an EVP to a ghost hunter. That’s why the lyrics to Leviathan on Leathermouth’s LP XO are listed as EVP, but that’s another story for another time.) This is the one demo title that remained from infancy until the final recordings, and at the 11th hour also became the title of our record. A name handed down from the heavens that revealed its meaning to us as we dug deeper and deeper. I remember listening back a bunch to this recording that day and ended up finishing a more proper demo of the full arrangement later that night to send to the guys. I think i said to Tucker this might be the greatest song or the most butt rock crap i’ve ever written. When he sent the demo back the next day with his drum track attached. I had a feeling it might be the former… but nothing would prepare me for where Anthony eventually took this song. I honestly still listen back in awe. And to imagine that it’s something i had a hand in writing? That shit just blows me away. Because it’s stories like these that keep me still doing this. this has been plauging me for a while now so just a quick question but: for the first years (adeuce + ramshackle + epel + jack + sebek) what do you think are their themes and how do yo think they can grow as characters? I always thought that Yuu's themes were agency + relationships (or their lack of therefore) and Grim's being growing up + accepting mistakes/losses with grace. But like I'm not sure and that I'm stumped w the rest too--more specifically jack and sebek and ace's mainly :sob: (I'm pretty sure Epel and Deuce's is acceptance of oneself but putting it at just that seems wrong ig). Please send help.

Ooooh this is such a late answer—

I think of Sebek's theme as lightning that hasn't struck yet, its all thunder (Malleus) but no lightning or just lightning trapped in a bottle. This stems from the fact that he wasn't able to strike yet bc of chapter 7 being last, his late character development, and the fact that the fans don't really fw him rn. I don't like Sebek for all his human hating nonsense, but I do think he has the potential to be a fan fave considering who he might be during/after the events of Chap 7.

Moving on to Jack— i def see the components of the wolf he was based on, lemme give you the run down:

So the plot is basically about a wolf dog whose life begins after The Indians save him, but the pups never accept him, and the leader, Lip-Lip, singles him out for persecution. White Fang grows to become a savage, callous, morose, solitary, and deadly fighter, "the enemy of his kind".

This is all before his mother dies and he has to run away from the camp to soon become a fighter in an illegal ring of dog fighting.

Jack Howl actually parallels White Fangs life pretty well—being singled out by the dorm and dorm leaders, being considered a lone wolf due to the fact that he's not accepted into the pack (Savanaclaw) and during the events of Chap 2 where he's declared "the enemy of his kind" due to essentially betraying Leona's plan.

Epel is based off the apple that poisoned Snow White if we're being point blank—however, we could look at the symbolic meaning:

Being used as a tool for others to gain the upper hand—we see time and time again that with Epel's constant need to want to be independent he ends up embarrassing himself and growing bitter (read: poisoning) until he has someone guide him (read: eat) then he truly fulfills his purpose, like when he grew that plant in just a few days compared to the months that take for it to grow.

I also think he's often overlooked just as how the apple in Snow white is overlooked in lieu of Queen Grimhilde (Snow White's step mother) and the Hunter.

For Ace it's in the name Trappola—which means "Trap" based on a game where the goal is to win with the last trick with the lowest card while also getting 100 points—like uno, you trick other players into thinking your hand is one color or another while also dropping down 4+ or cancel cards (I've never played poker all I know is that you keep a straight face)

You can see this symbolism play a part in how he introduces himself—he tricked Yuu and Grim into thinking that he was a helpful kiddo only to turn around and call you stupid, he skipped on washing 100 windows in favor of going back to Heartslabyul, he ate Riddle's tart instead of making himself a snack—in Chap 3, we know that Ace is smart as fuck when his score is in the 90s compared to Grim and Deuce's, he skipped out on doing the work in favor of winning by "trick" card.

Deuce Spade, going off of the Spade card suit it represents winter (old age), where humans gain knowledge and transform—In Chap 5 we see that Deuce is the second 1st year to develop his UM compared to smart-until-dumb Ace. Spades also symbolise the warrior class and you can see this in his monster like strength and endurance (he straight up fought Jack Howl, took a direct hit from the OB monster in the Mines, and even in his robes a Savanaclaw student stated something about his monsterous strength, mind you this is Savanaclaw known for martial arts and magift)

Deuce means two and two in the card suit means Union, take what you will from that. He's also based of the Horned King, from his primary summoning object being Cauldrons, something the Horned King sought after to unleash an army of cauldron born warriors.

I think these def play a role in how their relationships form—Sebek is quick to lash out, Jack is tsun because he doesn't want to get close to people (his base lost a whole lot of people its actually sad) Epel's base comes out in his toxic mindset about masculinity and femininity, Ace's base shines in times where he has to trick people to get what he wants I mentioned that he utilizes weaponized incompetence, Deuce's base shines with his ability of cauldrons and being ruthless (the horned king is actually one of the most ruthless in the Disney universe), and he does right by his name in the transformation and gaining knowledge although he doesn't retain it well.

Grim and Yuu literally are in our faces about being two in one. And Chernabog also has wings sooooooooooo.

haha unfortunately i’m not really a comics person so i don’t feel like i can really give the best analysis possible, but i have seen most of the mcu movies and bits and pieces of the netflix show so i’ll try my best. also im using dc characters too bc i want to

1. Dan: I think your instinct with Dan as Captain Marvel is spot-on (at least uhhh,, based on the movie lol sorry comics ppl). Her direct, forceful powers and fighting style are definitely reminiscent of dan’s no-nonsense leadership approach. similarly the themes of overcoming sexism and acceling in a male-dominated industry in the captain marvel movie is pretty much the same as dan’s story establishing herself as the first female exy captain (tho sports is way more valid than the military). plus there’s a lot of emphasis on love and friendship between women that dan is ALL about. also lashana lynch would be a god tier dan wilds fc. Dan could also def have that lawful good Okoye from Black Panther energy. Loyal, disciplined, no-nonsense leader. no powers except discipline. no hair. also danai gurira in 2012 with the dreads and the sword and the cape on TWD was definitely part of my middle school sexual awakening

2. Kevin: Aquaman. this is based pretty much exclusively on the fact that jason momoa is my #1 kevin fc and also that Pasifika kevin is phenomenal and mandatory, actually. otherwise i think he has a decent amount of stick-up-the-ass cyclops energy. or dick grayson nightwing energy but i don’t have any evidence for why. kinda looks like him tho

3. Andrew: andrew gets the most characters bc he’s my favorite. i think ur jessica jones instincts are absolutely correct, both in her storyline (i only watched the first season) and her powers. i’ve seen some powers au and the tendency seems to be giving andrew like,, psychic powers or the like, and i don’t really agree. andrew is a very direct character. he’s pragmatic, he confronts problems head on, and he doesn’t muck about in details. to me this really translates best into physical powers like super strength that help u big punch straight thru all ur problems. also i def think andrew would be not just a solo hero but a mercenary (or a detective) because he’s not altruistic enough to be a standard vigilante. he doesn’t care enough about other people to hang out on rooftops all night waiting for Crime to occur. there’s a price for that.  which brings us to the NEXT andrew hero: deadpool. maybe in personality more of a drugged andrew but the superpowered mercenary is really a perfect fit for andrew. also, healing powers have a decidedly tragic poetry to them on andrew. already he’s self-destructive, if he had a healing factor his concern for his own well-being would be so beyond rock bottom it’d be in the earth’s core. even worse when you remember that with a healing factor, as opposed to indestructibility, you still feel all the pain. which brings us to Wolverine and X-23, who have the same thematic points as deadpool but are much more of a personality match and they have knife hands, which i really think andrew would appreciate. ending that sadness train and onto another tho, andrew’s aesthetic and Vibes fit the Winter Soldier just SO well (just that movie tho, not really civil war or anything past that) and a reinterpretation of the captain america story using the twinyards would be incredibly interesting. and finally, one last hero that would work really well for andrew: rogue, only remove the angst around not being able to touch people, andrew would love that. one touch and their comatose? baller. don't fucking touch him.

4. Matt: Shazam. I didn’t see the shazam movie but my dad and brother did and they said it was very funny and all the trailors looked like it had a lot of fun himbo energy and i really think that fits. in terms of matching himbo disaster energy i think i’ve heard good things about comics hawkeye (not mcu). thor?

5. Aaron: Mr. Fantastic. now this might be a stretch but aaron is a character who uses a skin-deep veneer of anger to cover the fact that he’s actually quite pliant and bends to other people’s wills. and he’s a doctor or w/e. he could alse be like,, antman. he’s smart right? hank pym not paul rudd. katelyn can be wasp

6. Seth: Arm Fall Off Boy. no i will not elaborate.             ..... ugh fine, but i'm using my favorite piece of superhero media of all time: x-men evolution, the one where they're all teenagers in public high school. seth can be lance alvers/avalanche who’s a bit of a jerk and has a lot of issues with authority and has a rivalry with cyclops very reminiscent of seth with kevin, but still there’s the recurring theme that he’s lashing out because of low self-esteem and a bad situation and he’s a surprisingly sympathetic character who i’m very fond of. his power is earthquakes but i think the name makes that pretty self-explanatory

7. Allison: Iron Man. cocky, bitchy, and rich rich rich. sounds like allison to me. then to elevate it a level higher: emma frost, rich bitch extraordinaire. also if allison had telepathic powers she would be unstoppable. plus one more bitchy, morally-gray blonde (but chaotic this time): Harley Quinn

8. Nicky: Okay so I do wanna give a quick shout-out to Northstar, the first openly gay comicbook superhero, who’s a speedster which I’d actually say fits Nicky pretty well. However, if i had to choose a superhero to represent nicky in presence and powers it would have to be Jubilee from x-men (... from what i’ve heard lol. i’ve never actually consumed any of her Media hahaha anyway) she’s a joyful, energetic presence and her powers are setting off fireworks which i think is a good balance of nicky being a supportive cousin-parent AND a chaotic train wreck garbage trash man. also gonna throw in johnny storm for a cheap 'flaming' joke

9. Renee: Thunder/Blackbird from Black Lightning bc she’s a fufkin lesbian lol. (i don’t watch the show but i do follow nafessa williams’s tag). now the fr ones i’m gonna do together because to me they have the same Vibes so i chose them for the same reasons. Wonder Woman and Storm who to me have the same  reserved, impartial, regal energy. honestly ethereal and somewhat otherwordly, and quite literally goddesses. also op as hell.  black widow and her “red in my leger” looking for redemption story also fits thematically.

10. Neil: okay lazy answer first: the flash or quicksilver. get it? because they run fast? and neil run too? yea i like to think i've proven myself to be better than such a surface level interpretation but worth the mention ig. so for srs now, mystique and her shape changing powers would be an interesting interpretation of neil's identity issues, but i wanna push it a step further. nightcrawler would actually be possibly the MOST interesting hero to apply to neil 1. because powers still very movement go fast place to place 2. because of the thematic focus on neil's unusual looks and the lengths he goes to hide them, very much in line with the way nightcrawler will use a hologram-projector in order to look human, yet in both cases it's only a surface-level illusion, and 3. his parentage. here, mary would be mystique, which i also think works very well considering mary seemed to be the far more effective chameleon on the run than neil, and also fits with her place as a morally grey character, as mystique herself is often a villain or an antagonist, with her own agenda and shadowy motives. then nathan matches well with nightcrawler's father: azazel, a literal demon, and also where kurt gets his appearance. it's a shockingly coherent narrative between the three of them. then, to also give neil some powers that aren't contingent on his fucked up geneology and rather on his own merit and abilities, Black Canary and her sonic voice parallel the way that neil began to anchor his identity and take ownership over himself through his voice and his sick roasts

and 1 extra, wymack: batman, on account of his altruism, his dedication to second chances, and his many, many adopted children

What a day, Hanbinnie!

So I wanted to quickly recap the biggest things that Hanbin’s bday left us, even tho we all know very well. Just to put it nice and orderly somewhere to remember, as it was really a rollercoaster that ended with a bang. 

1- The fandom’s worldwide campaign: the fandom was set on making this a special day for Hanbin, one to shower him with all the love and appreciation we know he deserves. So for months, the whole fandom was busy planning and organizing all kinds of things for his day. And we did it! There were tons of cupsleeve events, gatherings, gift and letter collects, ads, fundrising, charity, video greetings projects, multiple hashtags making top trending minutes into the day. The loudness of iKONICs this 22/10 was like nothing else.

2- His family business: both buldak and 5gam recieved iKONICs in their shops, creating mini events where fans could have a meal or spend time tgt and leave their gifts, letters and loving wishes for Hanbin. Buldak has all the gifts and merch signed by Hanbin for their respective owners to retrieve and 5gam decorated the place with balloons and played iKON’s music through the day, then posted on IG thanking konics for visiting and making it a “view-tiful” day (you know, for the newest perfume based on Hanbin’s likes)

3- Obang calling out to his beloved human: the cutest surprise, Obang posting on his IG fancams and pics of Hanbin with the caption “The person I miss”. We know the pup’s IG is managed by Donghyuk’s family, so you draw your own conclusions. But it was adorable. Later he’d be also joined by Bangdaeng, Junhoe’s puppy. She was a bit late, posting the day after, but it’s ok.

4- The fanmeeting crumbs: iKON was to hold a fanmeeting in Japan during Hanbin’s bday, (shitty move from YG) and we were honestly mentally preparing to get nothing from the boys this time because 1st, they don’t owe it to us to go public about this and 2nd because of YG and the negative press. BUT! They still made a move. Bobby kept silent and let Hanbin’s part roll on its own during Killing Me, Jinhwan (and Bobby) shouted “Happy birthday” during BDAY, which they don’t usually do; and then during Rhythm Ta they asked fans to be louder to be heard “all the way to Korea”. Don’t tell me this was unrelated to Hanbin, the kids know what they’re doing.

5- Donghyuk’s sweet IG story: the fanmeeting crumbs were enough for us, and we were already spazzing in glee about it when this kid posted an IG story with a single white flower an no captions. Not missing a beat, detetctkonics did their search and found out it was an Arrow Head, Hanbin’s birthday flower. And not only that, but it also could be interpreted as meaning trust. It was yet another hearthwarming message and the fandom was quick to bask in the happiness, and although sadly the story was later deleted for reasons unknown, Donghyuk made his point clear.

6- The Bobby incident: and then we came to the peak of the day, just as it was about to end and hit 00:00 back in the far east. We were already rolling in our happy gushing when Kim Jiwon, Kimbap extraordinaire, half the B of Double B, typo master of the peninsula, not only posted on his IG, but he did so with a fancam of Hanbin and the caption “Happy birthday, I miss you”.

But hold that hat, he had more. He then went to answer to his IG pal itsbizkitt, who had mixed him up with Hanbin, saying “lol dats my beloved brother (...)”

Soon after we had a piling list of people hitting like on this, from Donghyuk and Yunhyeong, to Jinhwan’s and Junhoe’s sisters, Yunhyeong’s cousin, multiple YG ex staff and current staff, even PSY! And then it was even reposted, by Bobby’s friend captioning “mood” and by iKON’s former stylist, saying it took her back to memories of good people (transaltion interpretations in place).

This broke the fandom in the best possible way, and ikonics were lightning fast to flood Bobby’s post with love and thankfulnes and hearts and crying emojis (because, hey, we miss Hanbin too) and flood twitter with our emotional spamming, even pushing Bobby, Donghyuk and BelovedHanbin into the trending tab.

Of course Bobby’s bold move also atracted backlash, as antis, haters, trolls and the likes were quick to demand of him that he delete the post or to question and pass judgment on his actions. But as of this moment, he seemes to have paid no heed to them as it’s all still there. 

There were also numerous articles written on this, and although I think it’s a cheap move from the press to try and use this to draw attention and make a big deal of it outside the fandom (just like they did when Junhoe unfollowed YG), we were pleasantly surprised when we found out that the feedback was in big part positive. Many people seem to understand that this is no one’s business to meddle in. Some even called out on the news sites intentions with the articles, especially those that had been so quick to spread slander or misleading info about Hanbin before, and even praised Bobby’s (and in some articles also Donghyuk’s) straighforwardnes.

Now, I do believe this was a statement. We know very well that Bobby could have done this privately by other means and leave it at that, but he chose to go public and post on IG. Why? For iKONICs? For Hanbin? For himself? For the rest of iKON? To encourgae others? To go against YG and those keeping them quiet? To show the GP and press that he didn’t care? I don’t know. We don’t know. Could be any, all or none of those reasons. Only he knows, but the message was sent, recieved and spread.

So yeah, this was a massive win for both iKONICs and iKON themselves. These kids are friendship goals, and we are immensely proud of them all.

7- An update on Hanbin: From the chinese Hanbin fanclub, a fan that went to buldak asked Hanbin’s uncle about him, and the uncle’s answer was that Hanbin is doing better, his mental health is improving and he is eating and resting well. And if this is not the best news we got this day, I don’t know what else to say. 

Things might keep rolling as we speak, but Hanbin’s day was succesfully closed with a pretty red bow and on a bright note. I hope he felt all the love that was sent to him on his day, that’s all we meant.

Dracosaur CR 11 NE Dragon This towering reptilian beast is a quadruped, with hind legs longer than its front. Its neck is long and ends in a crocodile-like head. A row of bony plates stretches along its spine, and its tail is covered in a thicket of long ivory spines.

The first dracosaurs were created as a display of necromantic power. The bodies of dracosaurs bear a composite resemblance to those of multiple types of dinosaur. The heads are decidedly like those of theropods, and all dracosaurs are carnivorous. Their bodies are like those of a sauropod, being long necked and long tailed. These tails are covered in an array of long spines like those of a stegosaurus, and stegosaur-like plates run down the dracosaur’s back. These plates are covered in chameleon-like skin and are capable of color change, displaying the monster’s moods—they turn red when it is angry or injured, black when it is fearful or bright colors when it is in an amorous mood.

Dracosaurs are more intelligent than beasts, although not by much. They speak Draconic, but rarely have a vocabulary of more than 100 words, and rarely speak to creatures they consider to be prey.     she sends the stupidest message she has possibly ever typed in her entire life (eighth grade, angsty teen posts on myspace included) to him in the second week of march. the chances were low that he would open her dm, but he had been known to ever so often answer a handful at a time, and what did she have to lose if he did answer the message? she had sent him other things before as if he were her best friend, memes that reminded her of him or funny t-shirt ads, whatever it had been that she thought might have him grinning to himself--- however, clearly the response never-received wasn’t with this particular “friend”. she didn’t really know him, and he, blissfully unaware of her existence, yet she tried weakly to get the attention of him while he received thousands of others flooding his messages doing just the same. it was just a bit of fun really. a shirt that showed a t-rex wearing mickey ears, “wrong park!“ written across it had her laughing manically to herself before sending the post over to joe. she hoped she would see him in that shirt soon.

    it was a hopeless cause that, well, wouldn’t crush her if the odds weren’t in her favor. nearly a month after she had sent the stupidest message, a notification of a new text pings through her phone. a glance over to it only to be met with an unknown number loses her attention as quick as it held it. she yawns. the action comes of mainly boredom though sleepiness threatens to claw its way into dominance as the summer rain continues to pummel unto the roof, warm florida air shifting through the porch, and the novel in her hand losing focus. a nap would be good-- perfect actually.

    the crackle of lightning followed by a gargle of thunder shook her out of her sleep only an hour later and back into reality. every afternoon without fail, the casual shower of rain would pass over her family home just after three as if mother nature were taking her time with her garden. florida often promised hurricanes so the thunderstorms weren’t uncommon, but this particular one wasn’t supposed to hit until thursday, and with it being only tuesday, she knew this storm would last forever now: the earlier they came, the longer and harder they reined apparently. notifications sound off at a quick rate, though she easily dismisses it as something extraordinary going on in the group chat. trekking back into the house with book and phone in hand, her free fingers pass over her dogs’ heads as she passes them to head to her room. the thought of a shower to wash away the dampness from outside was the most ideal option she possessed, however, the implied doom her mother promised of a shower during a thunderstorm was the least. more notifications go off in time before she turns off the ringer entirely and plugs it into the charger. sixty-four (jesus) messages in the group chat on discord, another twenty-one from the same group on instagram, and god knows how many more on snapchat, but the one, singular cluster of notifications tucked at the bottom that held her interest had her pausing with head tipping in interest: another message from the unknown number.

lower lip curls between teeth as brows furrow an inch together. finally clicking on the messages, she feels like she might throw up as her eyes follow the pixels. holy. fucking. shit.

FROM unknown 11:18 am: It’s super dangerous giving your phone number to strangers on the internet you know? FROM unknown 11:20 am: I tried to call and kind of chickened out. I got nervous and I’m sorry. FROM unknown 11:43 am: Oh my god, did you really shoot your shot and just leave the court?

    she has to read the messages at least eight times, take a screenshot, send it to her brother, and have him confirm she’s not having a stroke before she can go back to the originals with an intent to reply. thumbs hover over keys making absentminded shapes as she breathes deeply, loudly, anxiously trying not to have a whole mental breakdown. the message directly referenced her messages to none other than the boy from jurassic park, the bassist of bohemian rhapsody, the very angry baseball player of undrafted. there was absolutely no way that this was actually, truly, literally joseph francis mazzello iii. couldn’t be. nope. not happening. she doesn’t know what to reply back with for a good long moment, taking a second to collect herself and open up instagram to confirm for the hundredth time now that this is who she thinks it is.

    the dm’s screen welcomes her, exhale escaping lowly as she clicks on joe_mazzello’s chat. he hadn’t replied -clearly, she most definitely would have received a notification for that or else instagram would have a very angry woman on their hands- but he had opened it. the time read 3:56am two weeks ago when he read them. her head falls backwards as the mental math floods hurriedly through her brain, trying to understand: so he had called a week after reading them apparently, and then waited another week before engaging contact again. he... he had been thinking about this for a while; it wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment ploy to entertain a fan. god, she might throw up actually this time. thumbs navigate to open the texts from the unknown number again just to make sure they hadn’t magically dissolved into thin air. a slow exhale. one more final time she moves over the keys.

TO unknown 12:56 pm: who is this? TO unknown 12:57 pm: if this is who i think it is i’m gonna Lose My McFreakin Mind

    she nods to herself as they send--- vague enough that whomever was on the other side wouldn’t think something strange was going on no matter what the outcome turned out to be. it had happened once where a friend texted the wrong number instead of her, asking if “mc fuckhead” was there. (that was an incredibly fun inside joke to explain.) head tips to the side slightly, hopping her train of thought from joe mazzello and him genuinely thinking of you to how strange every inside joke must sound to people outside of the inside. another vibration of the device jerks her back to the matter at hand, unable to help her heart thumping uneasily.

FROM unknown 1:26 pm: Hi, I’m Joe Mazzello from Jurassic- I mean, Bohemian Rhapsody and you’re watching Disney Channel! FROM unknown 1:26 pm: Thank God you’re a multiple text person too FROM unknown 1:27 pm: Please don’t Lose Your McFreakin Mind! FROM unknown 1:27 pm: Wait. FROM unknown 1:27 pm: .....Is this (@ y/ig)? Did I just fuck everything up with an actual wrong number?

    suspicions couldn’t get more confirmed than that. her next set of texts goes out rapidly and without much second thought, a stupidly huge smile graced on her face that probably made her look like a maniac--- but really, if any person’s celebrity crush had texted them wouldn’t they have the exact same reaction? actually, now that y/n thinks about it, she’s being really, really calm. the internal screaming stays internal -thank the lord- though her cheeks already ache from the face-splitting grin she currently wears.

TO unknown 1:33pm: if i’m (@ y/ig) then wouldn’t you be @joe_mazzello? no? just me? ok TO unknown 1:33 pm: but hi yes i’m y/n ??? holy shit ??? what the fuck ???     as soon as the last one sends, her heart drops with fear. fuck, what if the actor just wanted to do a fan a favor and answer her dm just for shits and giggles, or, best (worst?) case scenario he wanted to online-befriend her. she can very easily lose the one single chance she’s gotten and--- god, yes, definitely going to throw up. she sends another message in a haste, praying to whomever was up above that her last text actually saved her ass. he responds in actual record time, the girl tucked up on her bed unable to help the excited and very, very, very ugly squeal she let out as she starts reading the messages.

I think I read that on your account, I hope I didn’t just pull that out of my ass. FROM joe omg 1:36 pm: I haven’t been to Universal down there in God knows how long and I was planning to go at the end of the month funnily enough FROM joe omg 1:36 pm: If dinosaurs and King Kong and Harry Potter and whateva are your thaaaang

    an anxious groan soon follows-- of course this was the alternating year she had gotten a disney annual pass instead of a universal one like last year, and upon further inspection of prices, her bills due, and her bank account, it was a couple hundred dollars she definitely didn’t have to spend. she sets her phone down to calm her now raging anxiety, skin heating up and palms sweating profusely until she fists her comforter in hopes to dry them. asking an actual rich and famous person for financial help just to hang out with them was forcing her eyes to prick with tears-- she had to find something else, right? they could work something else out and she was just overreacting. it takes her verbally saying “you’re crying over universal, chill the heck out” before she comprehends and truly relaxes, tension melting out of her back as a slow breath falls from anxiety ridden lungs.

    the conversation rolls with no further lulls in topics to talk about, one in the afternoon soon turning to one in the morning and her eyes threatening to droop closed. with a final goodnight text the pair decide to resume conversation in the morning, and lord, did she have something to excitedly scream about then.

Hadestown Thoughts

July 3, 2019, 2pm matinee

I say thoughts like this won't be completely positive

Also totally incoherent, you've been warned

The main cast were all on, no understudies

The show was honestly just really amazing

Eva's voice is just incredible

Orpheus is so awkward!! But really endearing and there was so much chemistry between him and Eurydice that developed over just two songs

Eurydice is a really interesting and clearly very layered character, who seems to be very cynical but really likes and is drawn to Orpheus's enthusiastic positivity and optimism

Hermes narrating the story was just really fun in the first act and it's easy to tell why André won the Tony

Amber as Persephone was just outstanding

Livin' it up on top was really fun!!! You almost forget it's a tragedy

All I've ever known is a really pretty song, and theres just so much chemistry between them its heartbreaking

Like if you weren't already emotionally invested in Orpheus and Eurydice's love you are now

Then it's Way Down Hadestown which is one is of the best songs

Orpheus continues to work on his song to bring the world, especially the seasons, back into alignment

Next song ft. Hades and Persephone's relationship issues and Eurydice trying to find food and continue to have faith in Orpheus, while Orpheus keeps trying to write his song

Which also causes relationship issues btw

Patrick Page's voice....... yes

Also I havent mentioned the fates yet, but they were (like everything in this show) insanely amazing

Like even despite the fact that they're working against the characters you love, they are still really awesome and entertaining

So that's my long winded way of saying When the Chips Are Down, as well as the end if Gone, I'm Gone was just incredible

And then you have Wait for Me, which probably got the loudest applause of the whole show

And rightfully so, it was outstanding, Reeve is so talented

Also the set expanded, lights everywhere, it was magnificent

Hearing Reeve's falsetto notes contrasting with Patrick's true base voice in the show in person just gives me emotions and I literally can't go more into detail than that

Honestly, everyone in the main cast has such a unique voice that really gives another aspect to their character it's really cool

Back on track, Why We Build The Wall was very powerful and an interesting way to end the first act

Eurydice shows up during the song, signs papers, and the act ends

Real quick: The lightning design?? Was incredible?? Throughout the entire production??? Like holy shit???

And the circle thing that goes up and down in center stage that I don't know the name of, forgive me, was a really neat way to show moving between the two worlds

So act two starts and Persephone gets her solo number which is fun, Amber Gray is an icon

Now it's Way Down Hadestown Reprise and Eurydice realizes she messed up big time

Her acting is spectacular

Flowers. Just Flowers

Eva is an incredible actress and just killed it

Like it was my favorite song before but holy shit!!!!!

I have nothing really to add just!!!! It was heartbreakingly gorgeous

And fortunately Orpheus is there pretty quick which is good

He tries to get her to leave with him but she can't which is an unfortunate turn of events

Orpheus gets beat up and the Fates sing Nothing Changes which was beautiful but quite sad tbh

Orpheus slowly gets the workers to start questioning stuff and standing up for themselves in If It's True which is a really good song

But it's bad news for Hades

Hades and Persephone song a song together and pretty much every moment the two of them have together for the rest of the show gives me emotions

Persephone tries to get through to Hades and fails and I just wanna die I love them so much

Next Chant Reprise (I was kinda sad that they cut Persephone's verse tbh)

But the added workers lyrics are really cool and honestly make up for it

Also the choreography and blocking stood out to me as just really good??

I mean the choreo/blocking for the entire show is incredible but it was just something else right then idk why

Orpheus starts singing his song with the old melody which freaks Hades out but Persephone convinces him to let Orpheus finish

Also Hermes repeatedly encouraging Orpheus throughout the show was really sweet honestly

It seems like the first part of Epic III was a really old song (and also different that the nytw version) but the second part seems to just be Orpheus talking directly to Hades (and is a lot more familiar)

It actually gets through to Hades and Persephone is like a mix of surprised and relieved and thrilled, and again, emotions

But the song does just as Orpheus said it would and it brought the seasons back and the world into sync

Hades and Persephone dance and ~emotions~

Have I mentioned I love them cuz HOLY SHIT

Eurydice and Orpheus sing Promises and it's so clear that Eurydice has so much faith in Orpheus as well as in Hades letting them go and ahhhh

They ask to leave and Hades says I don't know which prompts Word to the Wise

With the advice from the Fates, Hades decides to let them go as long as they pass the trial

He seems almost sad about it tho, like there's an added layer of emotions to His Kiss The Riot that it didn't have for me just listening to the soundtrack

Wait For Me reprise was just really good

Eva's belt is perfection

Again, Hermes and Orpheus's relationship is just really cute but also hurts me at the end

Hermes tells Orpheus the news and also that it isn't a trick

The staging for Doubt Comes In was fucking killer

The song repeatedly gave me chills

It was all dark with a few lights and you could just feel everything Orpheus was feeling

You know the rest, Orpheus almost makes it to the end, the staircase lit up signifying that, and at the last moment he looks back

"Its you" "..........It's me"

Eurydice descends back into hadestown via circle platform thingy

Orpheus tries to reach her at the last second but is too late

Road to Hell reprise and Hermes is narrating

It's revealed to be like a loop cuz they're singing it again and again

Which is really fucking depressing like hooray they're doomed to fail for eternity that's fun I didn't need my heart anyway

All sarcasm aside it's a really powerful ending

Bows happen and then Persephone sings Raise a Cup which is honestly a really cool moment like the audience is still standing up and it's honestly the perfect way to end the show

Final thoughts: the show just really feels perfected. Ig that's the benefit of it having been in the works for over a decade, but everything, even the smallest thing, just seems like the best it could possibly be which is really magnificent and it's really something to have been able to experience it
