Rex Sloan/Rex Splode

Rex rarely brings up his childhood and on the rare occasions he does, he usually jokes ab it.

It took him forever to finally be convinced to retire as a hero and move in w the Graysons. He'd fully convinced himself he had no real identity outside of his hero persona; who was Rex Sloan? What was he without explosions, throwing punches, and odd-hour missions?

As it turned out, Rex has a lot in common w Debbie, or as he calls her, "Ms. G". After learning she's a real estate agent and worked in and around houses a lot, Rex shows genuine interest in her job and enjoys hearing all her stories. In exchange, Rex shares his interior design magazines w her and they often bicker ab which trends are better.

Especially in the beginning, Rex can't seem to fully separate himself from his ex-hero life, feeling it necessary to keep his jacket and boots on at the very least. He keeps the rest of his suit hung in the corner of his room, eventually able to put it in the closet and later on, in a box.

Once returning to civilian life after ~7-9 years, Rex has no friends outside of the Guardians and Mark. He's subsequently introduced to William, Rick, and Amber through Mark and the four become very close friends.

Rex even ends up going to Upstate to study interior design. While there, he's of course surrounded by his new friends and gets plastered one night and is arrested for trespassing; Mark ends up coming to bail him out and drag him home. Ironically it's arguably the most "alive" and "human" Rex has ever felt.

Dated Eve in his late teens, but neither truly loved each other romantically. Both were in unfortunate situations, neither asking to be given powers and tossed into hero life at such young ages, but they understood each other. Rex never made her feel small or insignificant, Eve made him feel seen. Although they break up on rocky terms, Rex eventually grows a pair and apologizes, rekindling their friendship and are each other's best friends/platonic soulmates.

Even after leaving hero life, Rex doesn't stop using his powers. As it turns out, being able to light candles, matches, and blunts w his bare hands is very helpful.

He's actually a really talented cook and, after some not-so-subtle helpful hints from Debbie, learns Mark's favorite recipes and often has dinner ready for him by the time he's done w patrol. Rex even bought himself an apron that says "shoot the chef in the skull" which makes everyone uncomfortable, only fueling him more.

His relationship w Oliver mostly consists of insults, flipping each other off, and play fighting. They'll constantly annoy tf out of each other; Rex's go to is hiding Oliver's favorite snacks, while Oliver leaves his molted exoskeletons in Rex's closet/bed.

Now that his powers aren't being used nearly as much, Rex discovers that his emotions sometimes trigger them: anger, shock, embarrassment, and surprise are just a few that can unintentionally make him charge up whatever he's holding in his hand.

Far into the future, Rex shockingly ends up being the more cautious parent as opposed to Mark. Rex nags at his dumbass husband for flying their babies (Vega and Capella) around their apartment, which both absolutely adore.

Rex hates new technology, social media, or anything of the sort. By choice, he owns an old ass Blackberry with a slide-up keyboard and is addicted to using emoticons when he texts. He also has a first gen iPod which he always has on him when cooking, working, or exercising. He only borrows Mark's laptop for school assignments, refusing to get one of his own.

Mark Grayson/Indomitable (Invincible variant) updated ref 😛

Mark did taekwondo growing up, so naturally he insisted his suit be inspired by a dobok. He also wears athletic wrap around his hands, feet, and nose, unable to fully shake the habit.

Has a chipped front tooth from a sparring match w his best friend when he was younger. He thought it made him look tough so it never got fixed.

Bc he was left alone a lot as a kid (Debbie worked a 9-5 but sometimes went overtime if a showing was later in the day, Nolan was a “hero”), Mark is a bit socially anxious and awkward. His only friend growing up was William, as well as a girl he did taekwondo w briefly but moved away when they were both 12.

Insisted on having long hair like Nolan pre-takeover attempt. After Nolan leaves, Mark goes through a brief identity crisis and chops his hair off and gets rid of anything that reminds him of Nolan.

Hates the red and white color combo since it reminds him of Nolan.

Is very short for a Viltrumite. Usually at their shortest, Viltrumites are well over 6’/182cm; even grown-up Oliver is almost 7’/213cm, but Mark? Fully-grown, he stands at 5’6/167cm and is 155lbs/70kg of pure muscle.

Often wears his hair in a long braid, but when it’s down it sits mid-back and has waves from being up 99% of the time.

Loves when his mom, friends, and partners do his hair. It always helps him relax and even fall asleep in some cases.

Has long eyelashes like his momma.

Has zero concept of dressing nicely; always wears his taekwondo sweatshirt, shorts, and slides wherever he goes. He even tried to wear his usual outfit on his first date w Amber, but even Nolan told him to change.

Is Oliver’s legal guardian. After Nolan got him to go up to Thraxa to take Oliver back to earth, Mark chooses to keep him after a long chat w Debbie. His mom made it very clear from the beginning that she’d support whichever choice Mark made, but refused to raise Nolan’s affair kid. Debbie steps in to help and babysit on occasion, but Mark did most of the work raising him. Granted it wasn’t perfect; Mark is only 19 when he adopts Oliver, so ofc he’s immature sometimes and goes off w friends and on dates w/o fully considering Oliver or his mom’s feelings. Debbie has to give him reality checks sometimes and remind Mark that he needs to either get a babysitter or include Oliver more in activities.

Food is his weakness and damn can this guy eat. It’s often said that the way to a Viltrumite’s heart is through their stomach.

Is extremely flexible bc of years of taekwondo training. Can easily do the inosuke bend and sits in it sometimes just to freak his friends out.

Bad habit of being too much in his own head/thoughts. Some friendships and relationships have ended bc of this.

Invincible/Indomitable Alien Headcanons Pt. i : Thraxans

Thraxans are a unique and interesting alien species. Highly intelligent and tricky, Thraxans have the natural ability to disguise, evade, and learn at lightning speed.

FULL-BLOODED THRAXANS:

Thraxans have segmented, highly flexible joints in their limbs, giving them a spider-like grace and the ability to make sudden, darting movements with ease. They’re quicker and lighter on their feet than Viltrumites

Thraxans have compound eyes that allow for a wide field of vision and high motion detection.

They use pheromones and subtle scent cues to convey emotional states (calm, warning, excitement, affection). Thraxan parents will often emit calming pheromones when soothing young nymphs, especially when injured or frightened.

Thraxan affection is shown through gentle grooming and tactile contact: intertwining antennae, smoothing arm segments, stroking the sides of the face, or nuzzling.

When threatened or defending nymphs, Thraxans flare their limbs and lean forward, making themselves look larger,  like an earth mantis in a warning pose.

Thraxans are taught to remain still and silent when listening deeply.  it’s a mark of respect to give someone full attention, especially elders, mates, or rulers. 

Thraxan voices can click, buzz, and trill, particularly during emotional spikes thanks to their mandibles.  

They’re hyper-aware of vibrations, able to feel footsteps through walls, terrain shifts, and even detect distant motion by the way the surface beneath subtly trembles. This makes them highly skilled trackers.

Because of their ability to stick to any surface, some Thraxans find it comforting to sleep upside down or sideways, as it gives them a predators vantage point and provides safety. 

There are three subspecies of Thraxans: Florathrax, Terrathrax, and Viridithrax. They live in different parts of Thraxa which is why some have earthier tones and others have more vibrant colors.

THRAXAN/VILTRUMITE HYBRIDS:

Oliver, though more humanoid, retains some joint articulation, especially in his shoulders and knees, allowing for unique movement patterns that scared the crap out of Mark, Debbie, and Rex when they first witnessed it.

By far one of the weakest hybrids a Viltrumite can make in terms of defense. While lightning fast, graceful, and highly intelligent, Thraxans are very weak and can’t take a punch from a Viltrumite. The positives to creating this hybrid are the fast maturity, early learning, access to powers at a young age, and high intelligence. 

Oliver inherits a mild version of compound vision: while his eyes look mostly human/Viltrumite, his peripheral awareness and reaction time are unnaturally sharp, as he often “catches” something coming before others do. 

All hybrids can sense scent cues, but cannot fully produce them.  instead, they develop a faint pulse or vibration in their chests when overwhelmed, a silent call for comfort.

Each hybrid has a variety of Thraxan genes physically present; some could appear almost entirely Viltrumite, others more Thraxan, or a mix. Regardless of their appearance, all hybrids subconsciously mimic the Thraxan defensive posture when angry: planting their feet wide, shoulders squared, head tilted downward; an intimidating blend of both alien heritages.

Hybrids go through molting seasons, it’s typically very uncomfortable and leaves them irritable, grouchy, and edgy for a few days. However, after the process is complete, they feel shiny, confident, and new, showing off their new shells. Oliver likes to screw with Rex and leaves his molted skins in his bed or hangs them up in the corner of his room to scare him. 

If a hybrid has antennae, they’re highly expressive. They twitch and move instinctively based on emotional state: they perk up when curious, fold back when upset or anxious, and gently sway when relaxed or affectionate.

Oliver in particular is half Florathrax, hence his purple hue in his true form.

i had so much fun w these!! i def feel like the Thraxans were wasted potential in terms of design bc praying mantises are so colorful irl, i would've loved to see different patterns or even subspecies, they def deserve some more love!!

next and prob last i plan on doing Viltrumites, but that'll take a lot longer bc i have a fuck ton of notes on them. mayyyybe i'll do battle beast's species as well, but idk

First one is Rex in Eve's suit bc that one pic from the show killed me lmao. also extra hc that Rex sometimes wears his hair up in a tight ponytail(?) so it looks like a little fuse/fire spark thingy. i felt like it kinda matches his whole aesthetic

next is my au design for Nolan! gave him an omni-manbun and purposely gave him loose pieces in the front to mirror mark's hairstyle

third is my Allen/telia fan kiddo Ronan, got the urge to design his outfit last night and wanted to show him w his second eye open

last is a small out-of-context scene from chapter 4 of Indomitable! i hc that while william pokes fun at mark for his disheveled appearance, he always makes sure to fix him up and often braids his hair :)

Invincible fusion: Mohawk/Long Hair/Melee

decided to combine my favorite Invincible variants as a warm up for today :) he has:

Mohawk's eye bags, shaved sides of his head

Long haired's gloves, extra stripes, knee pads, longer hair

Melee's athletic wraps, dobok-inspired suit, braid, muscular and stockier build

Turning Out Pt. ii - AJR

hot take: Rex/Eve is much more interesting than Mark/Eve (i didn't say healthier, just more interesting imo)

looking forward to expanding on these two more in my Indomitable story! w/o giving spoilers, i headcanon they were drawn to each other bc they both understood one another due to their screwed up childhoods. Rex was a lot of things...a dick, stubborn, impulsive, but never the type to make Eve feel like an outcast bc of her powers or personality. Eve, desperate for an escape from her homelife, and Rex, starved from genuine human contact, mutually decided to start dating when they were 17 thinking that would fix all their problems.

in a nutshell, their relationship is survival alongside someone who understood; silent permission to just be themselves. Rex is ultimately the one who pushes Eve away (he doesn't cheat in this storyline) and she breaks things off w him, neither speaking to each other for a while. they do end up talking things over eventually and Rex gives a proper apology (albiet in his own way), which leads them to rekindling a genuine friendship as they'll always have that special bond as platonic soulmates. they continue to go to each other for advice and cheer each other on from the sidelines as they watch each other grow as ppl, geuninely happy when they succeed.

side note but all 3 songs from the Turning Out series by AJR match each of the main relationships (Mark/Amber, Rex/Eve, Mark/Rex) im trying to tackle, been listening to them on repeat while i draw frfr

ive been struggling w trying to figure out how to give my work more texture/detail and i think im on the right track!! its not perfect, but its such a step up from my other works so im happy :)

ANYWAYS chapter 4 is in the works, i plan on sharing corresponding art for each "episode" to promote it so lets see how long i keep up w that lmao. im really proud of this project so far and really want to see it through to completion

I think th worst part for me is i wanna like them SO bad, love the concept and their characters by themselves

They felt rushed from the beginning. I watched s1 w/o having any prior knowledge of these characters or storyline and knew from their first interaction the writers were gonna force these two together no matter what 😭

Lowkey funny that this show is so good at peeling back characters and exploring their motivations/making them feel human, but almost all the romances feel forced or rushed (and no, i dont think they’re boring bc they’re healthy)

I do not like Eve x Invincible enough for the finale to work for me tbh :/

ive had an idea for a new bf for Debbie floating around in my head for a hot min lol. don't get me wrong i love Paul, but i wanted to try my hand at creating my own oc. he appears in my Indomitable fanfic, but not till later on so im purposely leaving out major spoilers ^^

Lucan was deeply ambitious and saw the birth of Fidel as a chance to create the “perfect heir”: loyal, powerful, and mentally sharp.

Their relationship was distant, Lucan treated Fidel more as a legacy and weapon than a son.

Mother: Sofía [OC]

A brilliant Viltrumite geneticist working in a now-erased division of the Empire, focused on solving Viltrum’s infertility crisis post-plague.

Fidel’s birth was a scientific miracle, a last-ditch genetic effort by Sofía to naturally conceive with any willing viltrumite using a new gene therapy.

She succeeded, but the process severely weakened her, dying during Fidel’s birth. Thragg covered it up, not wanting it known that their “greatest genetic hope” had come at the cost of its creator’s life.

Personality:

Quiet, heavily guarded, and always watching, Fidel is a man of very few words. He rarely yells or swears, preferring to use physical intimidation (ie: staring, posture, etc) to scare his foes. After assimilating into Earth's culture some, Fidel decides to not rely on his Viltrumite powers very much, if at all; Cecilia offers him a spot on the Guard but he declines, not wishing to inflict any more pain onto others. After getting involved w Debbie (and by extent, meeting the boys), he becomes fiercely protective and watchful over all of them.

Fidel often people-watches and notices little quirks of those around him, which much later evolves into his albeit distant love language of gift-giving and remembering small details such as someone's favorite coffee. After leaving his past life behind, he flees to the closest nearby planet, Earth, and decides to live a quiet life as a florist in Chicago. He finds the arts especially fascinating, one of his favorite activities being attending local galleries and analysing each piece in an attempt to get inside the heads of the artists. Fidel has adopted a more colorful, artsy lifestyle and has gotten a sleeve tattoo of his favorite flowers.
