got to design a small #potager for a tricky (= part shady) area of an urban garden. questions to answer were how to integrate it into the existing defined areas, how to overcome the fact it‘s facing north and east, how to draw people in, and how to make it flow. . my first idea of a classic symmetrical potager with raised beds along the fence was not suitable here (i developed it anyway for future reference). a cluster of beds of varying heights (mahjong-style) in the sunny centre of the space was a better solution. there’s plenty of room to walk around the beds with garden tools, and to access the garden from other areas of the yard. for a bit of whimsy, I suggested a wall of mirrors on the north-facing fence. and how do you draw people to a space (without them realising it)? you install a fountain that can be heard before it is seen. . what a fun little design project this was! . #kitchengarden #designdrawing #landscapedesigner #gardendesigner #gardencoach #gardentalk #gardenadvice #gardentips #quickstartyouryard #sustainable #planting #seattle #pnw #seattlegardens #pnwgarden #urbangarden #citygarden #americangarden #lovegardens #lovegardening #happygardening #localbusiness #smallbusiness #womaninbusiness (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEcZ8QYAgtv/?igshid=1xxoi1p4bn0qq

in our first year in the PNW, my husband and I went up to Mt.
