Disney+ UK Star Launch: Complete List of New TV Shows and Films
https://ift.tt/2P7STsN
We came for The Mandalorian, stuck around for WandaVision, and, as we wait for The Falcon and Winter Soldier and Loki to arrive, there’s now a huge pile of new catalogue additions to work through, courtesy of Disney Plus’ Star brand.
Star launched on the Disney Plus streaming service in territories outside of the US (where Disney already has a home for adult drama in Hulu) on the 23rd of February. It’s added over 75 TV shows and 280 feature films here in the UK, including the entirety of Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Glee, Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy and Scrubs as well as cult favourites Firefly, Flashforward, Terriers and more. There are also some UK debuts in the form of the Star Originals listed below.
Film-wise, there’s ample reason to go back to the 90s in the form of Arachnophobia, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Con Air and a host of others, plus…well, it’s almost 300 films. Chances are you’ll find something to tickle your fancy. Households with kids should know there are new parental controls to set too, ensuring that nobody gets any unwelcome surprises.
Here’s the complete list of titles so far:
Star Originals
Big Sky
From Mr TV himself, David E. Kelley (Doogie Howser, Chicago Hope, Ally Mcbeal, Big Little Lies) comes a nine-part crime thriller starring Ryan Philippe and Vikings‘ Katheryn Winnick. Based on the 2013 novel The Highway by C.J. Box, Big Sky is the story of a series of missing girls and a private detective/cop trio with a messy personal history who team up to find them. It aired on ABC in the US last winter.
Helstrom
There’s very little fanfare for this comic book show‘s UK debut, which met with mostly negative reviews on release and was cancelled after 10 episodes, but Marvel completists will want to take a look. Tom Austen and Sidney Lemmon play the Helstrom siblings Daimon and Satana, the children of serial killers who hunt down the worst of humanity.
Love, Victor
Another Hulu original making its UK debut, this teen drama spins off from celebrated gay teen 2018 film Love, Simon. It’s narrated by Nick Robinson, who played Simon in the original film, and follows the story of a Puerto-Rican/Colombian-American teen living in Atalanta. Reviews for the 10-part first season were strong and it’s been renewed for a second.
Solar Opposites
Rick and Morty‘s Justin Roiland and Star Trek: Lower Decks‘s Mike McMahan are the creators of this adult animated comedy series about a family of aliens (pictured above) forced to seek refuge in middle America. Season one was enthusiastically received, and a second run is due to air in the US in March. Read plenty more about it here.

Current WIPs Meme
Rules: List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on: writing, art, gifsets, whatever.
Tagged by @roselinproductions - I keep seeing all of these amazing works, and I can’t wait to read everyone’s, but seriously.... thank you for an excuse to compile all this, and I’m sorry.
The Moonwater Series Expected Length: 5 novels, approximately 350,000-450,000-ish words, including Crystal Combat (3rd draft), Daelysian Dreams (2nd draft), The Archives of Baellor’da (1st draft), Spirit Shores (4th draft), Crystal Terminal (planning stages) Current Length: 364,088 words Blurb: Magic has reappeared in the hands of old enemies, enemies who forswore magic and banished it from their history books, their conversation, and their very beings. Armed only with her father’s silver shears, the least of Sheytana’s concerns are the invasion, the destruction of her city, the new magic, her predecessor’s abandonment of his post as the Baron Sinister of Thieves, the sudden reunion of her past and current lives, and an enemy soldier determined to change his colors. With the enemy at her gates again, Sheytana will have to decide who the enemy truly is: the invading soldiers, the source of the new magic herself, or her old friend and mentor?
Gran and Gwyn Expected Length: ~15,000 words Current Length: ~6,000 words Blurb: Children walk into Dreshyr Downs straight from the bogs just the other side of the town’s wrought iron fence, unable or unwilling to talk to anyone but the apple of the town’s eye, Gwyn. No one can remember when Gwyn arrived, but 26 children have showed up so far, and Gran, the old town washerwoman, is determined to find out where they come from and what’s so special about sweet, do-no-wrong Gwyn.
By the Light of Copper Expected Length: ~20,000 words Current Length: ~5,000 words Blurb: Cairn Shipstealer earned her name well, but when she sinks the Vengeance in the harbor of Sailhaven and breaks her 6-year boycott of the ports, she finds herself at loose ends without a ship. A conjurer offers her purpose when xe gives her an unopenable book and tells her, “All the treasures of the Ancient Builders are yours if you head beneath the western mountains. It’s there tales from your childhood come true, there in the streets of the sunken city.”
City Docks Expected Length: ~15,000 words Current Length: ~6,000 words Blurb: In most places, the cities stay put and it’s the people that fly away. Here, it’s the other way around. The city drops into the docking bays on a sporadic schedule, and lives are made or ruined depending on its departures. When Quill Williams, a boy from the Surface, meets Felicity Stockborough, a girl from the City, all his dreams about reaching the perfection of the glittering slender towers of the city he’s seen are shattered as Fell breaks the news: No one on the city will live to see it dock next.
Age of Sky Expected Length: ~10,000 words Current Length: ~3,000 words Blurb: The technicians who helped everyone into their chambers assured us: "You don't want to be here when the winter steals the wind and the sand storms die down. You don't want to see the sky that badly, kid, take it from me." I know what everyone says; I've read all the Are You Afraid of the Sky? books at least four times each. I can tell you exactly which page the sky bears its teeth and eats the last camper in the one with the red face of Mars on the front. (Page 63, if you're curious.) I know what the old folks sitting in their chairs in the halls of the dorm wings say in hushed, low voices; I've sat with them an evening or two, singing Ghost Riders in the Sky and lighting lanterns when the facility's lights dim automatically at 8 PM. Right now, looking at Aivazovsky's paintings in the museum wing made me wonder if we were all afraid of something else.
The Boy Whose Bark Bit Worse Expected Length: ~5,000 words Current Length: ~1,000 words Blurb: The boy across the street doesn’t like books. In fact, I’m not sure if he can read, but he plays hide and seek the best I’ve ever known. He can stand as still as a tree in wintertime, and he even looses his hair like the trees about then, too. It always comes back again come springtime. The boy across the street’s a dryad, and someday, he says he might even be a book. Truth is, I won’t let him.
Tagging: @ancient-trees, @miniimae, @macabrity, @write-like-a-freak, @morphtyler! I am seriously interested in hearing about what everybody’s up to, though, so if you haven’t been tagged yet and you’re dying to talk about your WIPs a bit, consider yourself tagged! @-mention me as the tagger and I’ll check it out!

Even the walls scream // Creative writing
“Tonight, we feast like kings!” Archangelo sunk his whetted denticulation into the deep crimson artery, producing a grisly sound of tearing. His close men-at-arms did not wince, nor bat an eyelash at the sickening sight. The sound to them had grown to background noise. A simple din of their day to day life. The prisoners unfortunate enough not to befall at Rău’s feet look away in terror. Their friend, their comrade, their accessory, now torn to shreds. Rău’s vengeance was not lost to those who dare steal from his empire, to challenge his gull, to attack his edifice, or simply question him. To lack knowledge of his specialty was to be a fool. From Romania to Whales, all knew Archangelo Rău’s name.
Rău’s closet men dragged the prisoners down to their cells, the metal chains that held them together as one, clanking against the cobblestone partition and flooring. The decorated combat men threw the guilty prisoners on to the frigid floor of the cell. Then on to the next, and so on and so forth. A dirty, raddled young man sat up from the cold tile, and looked to the man across him. He was lying on the floor. The tired young man did not know his name. Only that his tawny skin was scratched and lacerated. “Why god why?” The man cried, covering his face with equally worn and grimy hands. The young man looked to his left to see he was on his lonesome. Quickly glancing to his right, he saw a man his own age. “Where are we?” He whispered to gent to his right, not wishing to upset him.
The screaming happens all hours every day. A moment of peace was never found within the confines of the prison walls. True agony was felt and heard throughout the cellars. If one was to seek the sight of true pain, he would navigate himself to the castle of Archangelo. The ceilings of the prisons clashed against the grey cobblestone found elsewhere in the castle. Special iridescent rocks were used to fixate prisoners. Rău moaned of being plagued with the knowledge of prisoners screams all day and night. The rocks lessened the boisterous display of anguish.
“It happens everyday. If you spend enough time here, you go insane. Just like poor old Adrian, here.” The man spoke in a thick Irish accent. “H-how long have you been here?” The man asked. “Four months. At least I think. It never gets quiet enough to keep track. I keep track with the amount of dinners we’ve had.” His ramblings were hard to understand due to his poor diction, and Leo’s poor grasp of Irish twangs. “I’m Samuel.” He out reached his hand, waiting for Leo to grasp it. “Leonardo.” He enveloped his hand and lightly shook, rattling their confines once again. “So, what are ya’ in for?” Samuel asked. “I came as a soldier. Drafted. One day I woke up with a letter from King Henry the seventh. We penetrated the walls, and I awoke here after being bashed over the head.” Leo explained in grim detail. “Hey, same story. Well, actually I was caught stealing, but that’s beside the point. My friend and I were walking through the halls when I too was bashed over the head. I woke up the next day in confines and with a gash on me ole’ noggin.” Samuel pointed to the scab adorning his crown, dry blood flakes falling from his healing wound.
“When do you think we’ll be let go?” Leo asked, his voice clipping in cadence out of fear. Samuel let out a sickening howl of laughter, ending it with a quick,”Never!” His laughter continued until it abruptly stopped, his face dropping serious. “We are not getting out here. Not alive, anyway.” Concern and bewilderment fell on Leo’s face as Samuel explained. “Archangelo, the despot who runs this horror show is as ruthless as they come. Were there no corpses lying about when you arrived?” He was concerned as to how Leo avoided knowledge of Archangelo Rău. Leo shook his head lightly. “What happened to the your thief friends?” “Well, when Archangelo found us,” Samuel dropped his pitch as he spoke of the infamous oppressors name,”We were speaking of him.”
“Archangelo Rău is the owner of this castle. He wears the big crown we’re after.” Marius spoke to Samuel and Connor. “Not much is known of him, so most speculate. But it is said that he is a vampire, because his torture methods are so unorthodox. They say he keeps the blood, and harvests the organs to nourish himself until he kills again. It is said when dusk befalls the castle walls, he masquards behind his black cloak to trick delirious prisoners.” Marius grins as he speaks of the silly legends. Conner and Samuel laugh along, taking his jokes lightly. “No, but really, he is a vindictive murderer.” Connor's face dropped, his nerves pressing as he listened further. “They say he was born of bloodshed and evil. He was born during an Ottoman raid of his village.” Samuel pressed further on the groups nerves. “The castle was built on slave labor. If Angelo catches you, he holds you prisoner, and forces labor on you, or kills you on the spot.” Samuel laughed.
Screaming in terror could be heard from Connor as the trio rounded a corner. Samuel craned his neck to see a figure behind Connor. Archangelo started to work his way at Connor’s throat and head. His lithe fingers clawed impatiently at his neck like a wounded man trying to pry himself free of an animals jaws. Thick, vermillion blood poured from his neck as the sickening sound of tearing of flesh echoed through the desolate cobblestone twisting hall. “Who are you?” Marius asked in a low, rumble of a voice. Peeking up the cadaverous body, Angelo’s face was scarcely seen. The dim sconces lining the walls casting shadows upon his face. “I am the entity of the night. I lurk in the shadows, a creeping figure. I am the treacherous king of eminent, slow burning tortuous pain.” His mirthless words were bone chilling to the two thieves.
Leo was now terrified as he listened in horror. “And that was the last I ever saw of Marius and Connor.” Samuel finished simply. “What happened to Marius?” “Impaled and served at dinner to the other prisoners. I was thrown in here to live with I had done. And I still await execution. It’s only a matter of time.” His demeanor showed no hesitation to the release of death. “What happens then?” Leo beseeched. Just as Samuel opened his mouth to answer, iron bars of the cell slid open with a bona fide thud. One of Angelo’s right-hand-men were upon the prisoners to seek due revenge. A dagger pierced Samuel’s tawdry neck. Leonardo yelped in horror as he was met with the same fate. And for one moment, the aching screeches ceased. As if the hysterical prisoners briefly mourned the fate of the outcasts. The bars slid closed once again, and the screaming commenced once more.
In the distance, two creeping bodies could be heard only from the patter of their bare feet. Christian and Alexander walked close, terrified of what the castle held. “Why did we have to be sent here? Why couldn’t Marxim or Quill come in our place? I’m afraid i’ll be executed.” Alexander’s teeth chattered as they sculked the glacial halls. “It’s fine. We kill the ruler, then we leave. Fleeing will not be hard, there are of many places to hide.” Christian tried to simmer his partner. “This place gives a chilling sensation.” Alexander spoke once again. “It’s Winter.” Christian’s nonchalant words brought surprised upon Alexander. “No, in my soul. We need to leave.” He rested his hand on Christian’s shoulder, boring his eyes deep into the man’s soul. It was unbeknownst to the pair that the very walls they walked along were lined with the blood of fallen soldiers and thieves. To only touch the cobblestone panels would reveal such grave pain and suffering, one could not fathom. Touching the walls would give on traumatizing tremors of knowledge of how others met their fate.
“We need the crown first. That’s proof enough of the murder. Let’s see if we can just find the crown.” Christian’s torched waned from the harsh winds pouring in from the large windows. “Here, maybe it’s in here.” The pair entered the large sleeping chamber. A large iron bed frame stood, holding Archangelo’s bed. The deep crimson hue only brought more terror into Alexander’s mind. “Look at all this stuff. This guy is a real horader.” Christian looked upon his display of weapons and trinkets. “C-Christian…” Alexander sputtered, not believing his own eyes. “What?” He turned and was met with a floor to ceiling display of noses. Each sliced from top to bottom, collected from the corpses of Rău’s enemies.
Rushed footsteps radiated off the walls, forcing the pair of warriors into panic once more. The heavy wooden chamber door flung open with a crash. A heavyset guard bashed Christian with a wooden board. “No! No!” Cried Alexander. The guard did just the same to him, causing him to fall to his knees. “What shall we do with them, Rău?” He asked. “Boil them. And make sure they’re awake.”
The next night, Archangelo entered the dining chamber with a burning temper. His scorching temperament fueled his torturous tendencies. Two prisoners stood in their usual places, holding their ceramic plates. Amelio and Vincent conversed about their captor. “Each day, he stands to get worse. Before, his methods tested human decency, now they test human capacity.” Vincent griped a black rosary of prayer beads wrapped around his right hand as he held his dish. “He threw Amorelli off the stone balcony last night.” Amelio’s words worried Vincent further, causing him to turn to a slew of prayers to his beads. “I wonder who he’ll eat tonight.” Someone leaned over and whispered to Amelio. He dare not crack a smile. But god, did he wish he had the ability.
Archangelo stepped to the humorous prisoner, gripping his shoulder with his left hand. The prisoner stared down at the autocrat’s low arching, demeaning brow, then to his soulless, dark eyes that led into his long, straight nose, a thick mustache of deep pigment adorned his sinister grimace. “You mock me? Me? The great destroyer of life? The eater of dreams?” His words dripped with rage, the very thought of someone undermining him filled him to brim with hatred. Rău reached into his inside breast pocket and retrieved a dagger. Gauging a large hole in the man's chest, he fished his still beating heart from his chest. Blood spouted everywhere as Angelo ripped the heart from it’s connecting arteries. He dropped the lifeless ticker onto a white ceramic plate, offering it to the prisoners surrounding him.
“Take it, go on.” He moved the plate closer to their faces, right under their noses. The blood particles filling their nasal cavities until they couldn’t stand the stench any longer. “Why won’t you take the offering? I give you lifes finest gift. The source of it all.” His gruesome actions did not match his hospitality, confusing the prisoners. “How foolish of me! The heart is not lifes source! It’s the brain.” He spoke humbly. Leaning over the body, he harshly kicked the head of the dead man. Retrieving a chunk of brain matter, he sat in on the plate next to the now pale cerise heart. Few prisoners did not faint or vomit. Those of which that stayed put had been confined much too long for sanity, let alone morality.
Two weeks had gone by without a word of Rău’s madness. The prisoners remained untouched, and well fed. Dinner was quiet and absent of Archangelo. The first conundrum he caused when a rattling crash of door bursting open and then closed. The entire castle could hear his frustration. “The Romanian empire is coming! We must stop them!” His cries caused a ripple effect on the guards and men-at-arms. Pandemonium ran through the castle walls as prisoners and wardens alike ran to find armor and weapons. Archangelo stalked the grounds until he found a window, where he saw the large group of men on horseback approaching the commissary walls. Adorned in chain mail garb, Rău knew they had come for him.
It had been weeks into the attack, and the Romanian Empire had been at a steep decline in warriors. They were forced to start drafting any eligible men fifteen years and older. For Rău, killing a baby faced young man with a youthful glow was not troublesome in the slightest. He watched in glee as the effigy of impaled bodies stood guard of his beloved castle. Any soldiers with half a sensible brain would run in terror of his horrifying edifice, but were forced to fight and ultimately meet the same fate. “You see, you impale the navel and heart. Now, this kills them almost instantly. But, if I find them to have particularly wronged or inconvenienced me, I go a different route. I grease the round end of the stake, and impale a laceration I made on their spine. This way, it slowly works it way through their body. It’s positively agonizing.”
The joy on his face was mortifying to his second in commands. Within the next week, Archangelo Rău’s guards started to lose the battle. They were exhausted with executing Archangelo’s plan exactly. They had hatched an expert plan to execute their tyrant. “We could poison his wine at dinner!” A sheepish blond guard, Damien suggested. “No, no, that won’t work. He already has someone else drink and eat everything before him. That’s to easy.” Simon, Rău’s closet assailant spoke. “We could push him out the window!” Almor smiled at his plan. “Yeah! I’ve always wanted to do that!” Michael agreed. More guards and soldiers cheered in agreeance. “You idiots! He won’t fall for that!” Simon barked, silencing their joy. “We stab him. Right before he retires for bed, we all stab him.” A shadow in the corner suggests. Vincent, a petty slave had birthed the greatest plan! “That’s perfect!” Simon smirked. “Yeah, it worked for that Julius Caesar guy!” Damien spoke once again. Simon sighed and placed his head in his hands. “This is why we don’t let you speak, Damien.”
With the Romanian empire circling in closer on the castle, gaining more access by the hour, the group of aristocrats had to act soon. Stowing the daggers away behind their backs, they entered Rău’s sleeping chamber. “My guards, what are you doing here so late? Come to congratulate me on my efforts?” He smiled, sitting up from his bed. “Y’know… I haven’t had the easiest life. I watched my father kill my mother on my twelfth birthday. From that day on, I vowed to seek vengeance on that swine. And so I did. I did just that. I trained my mind and my body for two years in an Ottoman prison. When I finally met with my father once again, I fought him in hand-to-hand combat. My first vindictive kill. So exciting!” His thick Romanian accent only got worse with the rum he consumed with his meal that night in the dining hall.
Simon looked to the group nervously, hesitant to indicate the stabbing. “Simon-” Archangelo placed his hand on Simon’s shoulder, causing Simon to jerk the blade into his abdomen. Thirteen others followed his motions. “Why?” Were the only words Rău choked out before he doubled over in pain and died.
His attackers freed all the prisoners and fled into the night, making their journey through the frigid forest of Romania in Winter. The Empire fought their way through the effigy’s, the impaled bodies had become mush, and fell to the ground as soldiers walked amongst them. When the Empire finally made the way through the twisting castle, wind rustling through the ghost town that once was the fruitful structure, they found no more than the peaceful body of the dead Archangelo Rău.
