for a while i was thinking about making Firestone, Spottedriver, Raggedstone and Oaktail all siblings/littermates until i wrote this (actually it was like a month before but shhh) and realized that their mom (since Firestone has like three siblings) would've had to have like 7 (or even more) kits and eventually just decided "yeah no."

The gathering

Characters:

Firestone: a tortoiseshell tom, with white fur on part of his face and chest.

Oaktail/Oakstar: a light brown striped tom

Spottedriver/Spottedstar (mentioned)

Raggedstone: a dark brown scarred tom with a very ragged and unclean pelt (ever heard of grooming yourself, raggedstone?)

Mintnose/Mintstar: a gray striped tom, also the leader of RiverClan

Bright-tail/Brightstar (mentioned)

Runningstep/Runningstar (mentioned)

Foxflight/Foxstar: a tortoiseshell she-cat looking very similar to a little red flying fox, also the leader of ShadowClan

Firestone was unsure of what to do at the gathering. He wasn't really in the mood to talk to others right now.

"I remember her fighting like LionClan." Oaktail, now Oakstar said, retelling the battle that Spottedstar, their past leader and friend since kithood had died in.

Firestone recalled the battle in his head. Oakstar wasn't lying, they really did fight like LionClan. He, and many others mourned heavily for his great friend. She was supposed to be at this gathering.

"Not in the mood, Firestone?" came a voice behind the tom. He looked behind him, to see Raggedstone, his other friend since kithood.

"Not very much. I'm scared as to how the clans will react to...." Firestone said nervously.

"A devil-cat being ThunderClan's deputy?" Raggedstone continued where Firestone had left off.

"Yeah. I don't think their reactions will be good.. I'm the first to ever become a deputy." Firestone said, looking down anxiously.

Raggedstone gave Firestone a reassuring lick on his ear, before speaking. "Well, you gotta get in the mood soon. The leaders are about to speak."

Oakstar, Mintstar, leader of RiverClan, Brightstar, leader of WindClan, Runningstar, leader of SkyClan, and Foxstar, leader of ShadowClan, got onto the High Rock to speak, all deputies except Firestone following behind.

He was frozen. He felt like he couldn't move. Mintnose was now Mintstar.

He zoned out as he recalled the time he was almost killed as an apprentice by Mintnose.

Mintnose was trespassing on ThunderClan territory. He had attacked Firepaw from behind him, pinning him to the ground, ready to kill him, when Spottedpaw came and threw him off of the tiny apprentice.

Looking back at the incident, he really was tiny as an apprentice. He had been mistaken for a kit a few times.

Oakstar began to speak. "Welcome. I am Oaktail of ThunderClan, now Oakstar. Our past leader, Spottedstar, unfortunately passed, and ascended to StarClan. I will go tonight to the Moonstone to receive my nine lives."

Firestone didn't want Oakstar to mention him being his deputy. He didn't even want him to hint at it.

Mintstar spoke, a bit curious. "Oakstar, it is almost moonhigh. Have you picked your deputy yet?" It was like Mintstar knew he was the new deputy. Or maybe he's a mind-reader.

"I have indeed. He led us to victory in the battle, and is one of our best warriors. He is Firestone." Oakstar said, looking at Firestone when he was finished.

Firestone stepped behind Oakstar, the leaders turning to Oakstar in shock.

Meows of outrage sounded from all clans, except ThunderClan. "What?!" "This cannot be!" "A devil-cat?! Is he insane?!" Firestone's ears went back in response. He was right.

Mintstar spoke to Oakstar, heavily questioning his decision. "Oakstar, you cannot be serious! A devil-cat cannot lead a clan!"

"StarClan would not say so." Oakstar argued.

"You do not know that. You haven't spoken to them yet." Mintstar argued back.

"StarClan approves of the warrior code we have now. If they would have wanted something about devil-cats not being a leader in it, they would have said so. Quiet now, everyone." Oakstar said, turning to the cats below the giant rock.

"You cannot be serious! All devil-cats are traitors! How can you be so sure he's loyal to your clan?" Foxstar yelled.

"He is not a traitor! He has saved our clan multiple times!" Oakstar yelled at the cat.

Arguing went on between the three leaders before the other two broke them up.

They looked at the sky. The full moon was covered with clouds, showing StarClan's disapproval of the arguing going on. The gathering was over, and everyone had to return back to their camp.

Firestone felt heavily responsible for ending the gathering. All he could think about the way back to camp was how it was his fault.

He really wished Spottedstar was here to give him confidence, to show everyone he could be deputy, regardless of his roots.

She wasn't, and although he didn't know the cat by name, he knew the cat as one of Mintstar's followers.

God, does every problem in this damn AU stem from Mintstar??? (yes)

sorry i haven't been giving much updates on these!

i spent like 10-20 minutes per drawing trying to figure the eyes out..
