What do you mean I only lose to the burn from Pain Lanius' effect the exact moment he is summoned to the field, and not the exact moment when he reduces me to 0LP because I wasn't paying attention to my LP.

The Evolving Falcons
Tumblr media
Yu-Gi-Oh is a constantly evolving game. If you were to show a player from back when it first came out its current form, then they would probably consider it a completely different game. Today, we are going to be focusing on one of Yu-Gi-Oh's more important changes and an archetype that spawned from it: Xyz summoning. For those who don’t keep up with the game, Xyz summoning is a way to bring out powerful monsters by stacking monsters with the same level onto each other. The archetype we’re talking about however takes it a step further.
Tumblr media
Raidraptors is an archetype introduced back in 2017 that focuses on Xyz summoning. This archetype is unique though in that it is the only one that centers around a gimmick unique to Xyz monsters: Rank-Up. Raidraptors hold the record for the most in-archetype Rank-Up spells and Xyz monsters, making them one of the first archetypes people think of when talking about Xyz summoning. However, they suffered a bit of a problem.Ā
Tumblr media
While they had a great end game in the form of their boss monster ā€˜Ultimate Falcon’, they had issues with starting the process to get there. For one thing, if their normal summon was somehow stopped then you would often be dead in the water. You then combine this with the fact that they were vulnerable to interruptions and locked you out of certain generic staples. All of these factors made it so that while they had a great end game, it didn’t matter since they couldn’t make it there. And while they’ve continued to get support over the years, it wasn’t until October of last year that they received powerful dedicated support.
ā€˜Raidraptor – Bloom Vulture’ addresses the normal summoning issue by allowing you to summon both it and another Raidraptor from your hand, giving you easy access to a rank 4. The new continuous spell ā€˜Raidraptor – Roost’ enhances consistency by searching out your Raidraptor spell & trap cards. In addition to it, ā€˜Raidraptor – Brave Strix’ is another spell & trap searcher as well as a way to search out the all important Rank-Up spells that Raidraptor relied on. All of this leads us to their newest and most powerful boss monster:
ā€˜Raidraptor – Rising Rebellion Falcon’. This beast is one of the only two Rank 13 monsters to exist in the game officially. This card nukes your opponent’s board upon being summoned and is immune to other card effects, making it so most ways to get rid of it are useless. Combined with the ability to copy the effects of its fallen comrades, Rising Rebellion is the perfect representation of Raidrators as a whole. How do you bring it out? Why, with their new Rank-Up spell of course. ā€˜Rise-Rank-Up-Magic Raidraptor’s Force’ is unique in that it can use multiple Xyz monsters in order to bring out stronger ones easier. To put it simply, it’s Synchro summoning with Xyz monsters. And with it being a quick-play, you can tactically decide for yourself when is the best time to nuke your opponent.
And now you know a bit more about Raidraptors’ new power. Now go my fellow rebels and take down your oppressors! Show them the power of rebellion!

Uh...I love Speedroids since it was the first real deck I made in Master Duel...
But I've been playing Raidraptors in Duel Links and I've been loving them a lot more as well...
So it's probably one of those two.

Shay Obsidian was so hardcore. Not in like a ā€œI have a tragic backstoryā€ way but like. He regularly parkoured around on his raidraptors in a way that was so mind meltingly insane the show had to turn 3D just to follow him. He can scale twelve foot walls and perch on the ceiling like a spider. He wrestles with the morality of using machines of war built to eradicate his people and if it is ethically just to turn them back and use them on their creators. He spends the entire show trying to track down his sister and the longer he searches the looser his grip on his own morality becomes. There’s an extended sequence where he just beats up like a dozen cops, one after another. And everyone else in the cast is like ā€œHaha yeah that’s our friend Jared. He likes birds :)ā€

Raidraptor - Rising Rebellion Falcon
"5 Level 13 Winged Beast monsters Unaffected by other cards' effects. If this card is Xyz Summoned: You can destroy as many cards your opponent controls as possible, then if this card has 3 or more 'Raidraptor' Xyz Monsters with different names as material, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the combined original ATK of the destroyed monsters. Once per turn: You can detach 3 materials from this card, then target 1 'Raidraptor' Xyz Monster in your GY; this card gains that monster's effect until the End Phase."

Raidraptor - Force Strix
While at a glance I enjoy the brown and blue color combo on this steampunk owl, this art otherwise just feels kinda... Boring. Like, so much effort was put into designing bird looking robot parts that it simultaneously feels like they forgot to make the pose look cool or even just a baseline interesting. What we ended up with is just a pretty basic bird swooping pose that looks like it almost completely lacks motion. It... Honestly looks like its just falling out of the sky lol. They could've at least angled some of those metal feathers outwards a little more. I don't think the completely black eyes they gave this guy help with my opinion of it at all. They could've been green or yellow to match the orbs on its body. Also.... Hey. Guy who drew/designed this? Strix don't have ear tufts. This metal bird should have a completely smooth, dome shaped head if you're adamant on calling it a Strix.
