Kanaya felt warmth in her chest at the praise, but her hunger was threatening to overwhelm her. She placed the nozzle of the bag between her lips and began sucking.

She almost blacked out with pleasure.

The heat of it coating her tongue and teeth. The steely-sweetness in the iron. The ever so slight coagulation breaking apart as it passed along her cheeks and down her throat. She'd only taken a sip, as her mom instructed, but she felt like a king at the head of a banquet. She very nearly moaned when she opened her eyes and saw a nearly full pint bag still remaining- beckoning her . In that moment, the pain of the ritual, the accursed violence imposed on her- it very nearly seemed worth it.

She took another sip. She thought it might diminish, but yet again, bliss passed over her palate. The primal, meaty umami in the base flavor. The way it flooded up her nostrils, encompassing all her senses in the experience. The weight of it, thick and fulfilling at the bottom of her stomach- promising strength, energy, vitality.

She pulled her mouth away from the bag before she drained it all. She saw her second sip hadn't been as nearly as careful- the bag was a third empty.

"You're doing great, sweetheart." Mama said.

Continua's equivalent to the culling system, majorly contributed to by several of the formerly Alternian gods, is shockingly kind.

Its foundations were written in a frenzy after Plexus Axilla first heard of the Beforan culling system's premise, a perspective untouched by the true, vile roots of Beforus, with only its most idealized form to go off of, Plexus designed a system from the ground up in tandem with the culled gods themselves, to reach this shining falsehood and make it a reality.

The result is a system which Beforan Cullee Rights activists could only had dreamt of. Idyllic, or perhaps ideallic (chuckles).

I actually dont have a lot of vamps (weird for me as the demon character guy, i would think i would have more spooky creatures but ig not, gotta step up my game ig), just these three (and two old ones i had in the past that were identical twin little girls, wee baby vampires. cant find em unfortunately. rip Venice and the other one it was another V name. They wrre 3 or 4 sweeps i think?)

Keeshi and Fraika are hatched drinkers and Cassie is a turned drinker (she didnt die to become one, she was bitten by one)

Keeshi and Fraika grew up outside the caverns but Cassie lived within them for a little while before leaving them when she was roughly 6 sweeps old. She ended up going back as an older adult to form a rebel cavern sect that smuggles mutant grubs out.

Keeshi and Fraika are siblings but lived vastly different lives bc Keeshi became a street rat after running away from home (somewhere around 4 sweeps) because their lusus was outwardly aggressive towards all three trolls she was caring for. Keeshi just got the worst of it on account of her whole bleeding from her pores thing (which is pretty ironic coming from a Chupacabra). Keeshi grew up pretty feral and often attacked trolls for blood (if she goes without it for too long she enters this kinda torpor state where she slows down and gets very lethargic) on the streets and lived offa scraps so she's very small (coming in at a staggering 4'9). Fraika on the other hand stayed with their lusus because he was younger and as a result didn't come to rely so hard on bloodfeeding like his sister, so he doesn't not get inflicted with that low power mode experience if he goes without blood for a long time.

I haven't put much thought into how Cassie got turned, she's just kinda... one. She doesn't really go out and about much on account of being albino (she's an avg jade blood shes just got the lack of pigmentation on the outside so i made her colored features lighter) so she doesn't really feed off of trolls. She is pretty easily satiated on lusus blood and stores it in neat little packets in cold storage for if she needs it. Her and her matesprit (a less common male jade, no drinker trait, just a normal guy) take care of a lot of young children. Mostly grubs and young trolls that Cassie has just kinda found out in the world either abandoned or runaways (theres also a nonzero chance that some of them are mutants shes smuggled out of the caverns and adopted herself). Her and her matesprit have a single child together and then like... a small classroom's worth of adoptive children/fosters/anything adjacent.

A friend of Mine is a rainbowdrinker, and I've noticed that He seems to struggle with a few things. Such as finding a way to feed without having to "hunt" - as He puts it.

It helped tø hæve trølls whø were willing tø let me feed frøm them. Ænd hæving multiple søurces meænt I didn’t hæve tø tæke tøø much frøm æny øne trøll. These dæys I hæve æ møiræil whø helps, ænd æ few friends whø øffer.

Actually, a bit of lore-building and outfit chattering right now, peeled mostly from Discord. Lunchtime remains my favorite time to chew on lore.

They Whom Have Descended / the Descending One

TDO is a god that was worshipped pre-Empire in the district of Ipomoea in various forms, and largely now exists as a semi-secular concept in the Ipomoean caverns - while certain cultural habits, taboos and holidays remain, few take it seriously. They are the Ipomoean god of burrowing bees, creation, the depths and the underground. Ipomoean mythology holds that trolls were created six times, by various entities. TDO created life in the first iteration of the world, in the form of mind honey bees, and in the fifth iteration of the world, they created rainbowdrinkers.

The two are linked together mythologically as the only creatures capable of descending into the far depths of the earth and emerge without losing their minds. Bees were viewed as psychopomps capable of taking a trolls' souls to the Underworld, whereas rainbowdrinkers were viewed as blessed souls capable of taking a trolls' boy to the Underworld.. frequently piece by piece.

TDO was associated with the act of creation, manifest partially in a bees' innate ability to create hives, but also the process of innovation. As a result, despite being the creator of the rainbowdrinkers in their mythology, TDO was also seen as a protector against them. Old rituals held that a troll could escape a rainbowdrinker through invoking TDO's protection: by burning circular marks into a petitioners' wrists and around their throat, a troll could mark themselves as a sacrifice to TDO, and thus deter rainbowdrinkers by making the individuals' death a matter of theft.

In theory! In practice, in the pre-Imperial nights where rainbowdrinkers were relatively common in the region, hubris often won out over theological caution. The more practical approach that trolls seeking safe travel throughout the region would use is the sacrifice of a blueblood. An individual would be left behind in areas known to host larger numbers of rainbowdrinkers, armed with a weapon and left with several bleeding wounds. They would serve as bait, and if their party escaped the area unwounded, and they survived, then they would be seen as blessed by TDO.

Glitch's outfit is a traditional depiction of The Descending One, while ID's is going to match to the thrice-burned wrists and throat of a traditional petitioner. Melete's outfit is both fabric and stone, to represent TDO, and the sort of blueblood who could claim to have won their favour.
