I just have some thoughts since I’ve watched the first three episodes now. some things I’m glad the show did and also the things that irritated the fuck out of me so let’s go 👏🏼

1. aging the characters up. I think this is smart to do and there’s more you can do with the rest of them if they’re in their early twenties instead of being teenagers. sorry not sorry but I’m not interested in seeing teenagers being chased by grown adults

2. Clary is still beyond annoying. I know she’s traumatized by losing her mom and not understanding this new world but literally coming in “I don’t care about the clave, about your rules, I just want to find my mom.” yeah ok we get that but there are still rules that need to be followed. you’re out here almost getting people killed and it’s all in the name of your mom. and I’m not saying the clave is trustworthy because they’re massive dicks but you can’t go around running and doing whatever you want lmao

3. please give Alec a raise or a year vacation. the amount of shit he deals with having to be jaces parabatai is too much. honestly, Alec deserves better. Jace takes advantage of Alec and I would have loved to see Alec have another parabatai, one that cares for him. I know you can only have one BUT CUT THE FUCKING CORD PLEASE

4. Magnus is fucking perfection

5. Izzy is perfection too 🔥 I do not blame Simon losing his tongue over her. my bisexual mind was like OOOOO ALEC NO MAGNUS NO IZZY NO RAPHAEL NO MAIA!!!!!!! NO ALL OF THEM

6. Clary and Jace are very cringe and I’m not sure if that’s on the acting or the writing but it makes it hard to believe they’re “in love.” I felt more connection with Alec and Magnus meeting for a second than I did with jace and clary in three episodes. even Alec and jace have a bit more chemistry than he does with clary. and that is something I DO NOT ship

7. superb acting from Matthew Daddario. he’s absolutely wonderful and he really captured Alec’s angst in my opinion. you can see why he’s on guard not only because he likes jace (ew my man Alec WHY) and because he’s worried about the safety of his people. I feel like Matt captures the emotion without saying a thing so well. as does Harry. I think they’re both great at this

8. “This would be bad for clary.”- (talking about the cup and valentine) Simon “it would be bad for all of us”-Izzy. of course in Simon and clary world, everything is all about clary. I get simon is worried about his bff but this affects EVERYONE

9. if Simon was my bff and someone as jace talked to my friend that way, ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT. she doesn’t really say much, she’s all like “we’re a package deal.” honestly clary and jace belong together because they both take advantage of their friends. they’re both so self centered so let them run away as far as possible together

10. Alec is big sad now but you will have better, just you wait. also want to add, I enjoy season one for the build up Alec and Magnus but man do I hate Alec pinning after jace 🤢 but if there isn’t any incest, it’s not a proper CC story

11. Im just here for the Malec content. stuff that show did well: Alec and Izzy’s sibling relationship. I love these two so much. Clary actually being nice to izzy and being her friend, and not being mean to her cause she’s jealous. Magnus’s whole attire. I love this bi king so much. I love magnus, I love his sass, his makeup, his clothes. I LOVE HIM. I wish they would’ve changed his hair and makeup more in the last two seasons. kinda feel like they thought oh he has mascara on, that’s good enough. that pink hair is truly one of my favorite Magnus looks.

12. last thing to add that I like what the show did. I love that Alec actually knows how to fight. it never made sense in the books that he’s never killed a demon, especially since he’s a Lightwood. never made sense to me. I’m glad they allowed in the show for Alec to actually be able to fight 🏹

Magnus stood outside holding the duffel bag. He was frozen. Couldn't move. He wanted to run away from the problem.

He texted Raphael to meet him outside the Lightwood Manor.

"Have you seen Magnus?" Alec asked, its almost half 8, and dinner is getting ready. He looked at his phone and still no reply.

"He looked down earlier." Clary told him, which was not comforting. He took out his phone and ramg him again.

"Hiya its Magnus, Im probably avoiding you, so dont leave a voice message. Unless its Alec, then go right ahead."

"Magnus where are you? Im worried, just call me when you get this." Alec sat on the steps, waiting by the door.

A few minutes past by and the door opened, Magnus standing there, his jacket zipped up.

"Magnus!" Alec pulled him in for a hug.

"Sorry traffic was terriable." Magnus whispered, as he hugged Alec back.

"Im gonna go upstairs and get changed, and it looks like someone needs you." He said, as Tavvy was pulling at Alec's leg.

"Can you play with me. Max is to small and everyone here is no fun." Tavvy pouted, as Magnus walkes upstairs, Johnathan watched, as he followed him up, as Tavvy led Alec to the lounge.

Magnus opened his bedroom door, and unzipped his jacket, he still had a headache, but the neausa and dizziness has passed.

He looked at the faint bruises on his neck. Tracing his finger along the bruise. He went to the closet and grabbed a purple turtleneck and put it on, a knock on the door made him jump.

"Sorry didnt mean to scare you."

Magnus just shot Johnathan a glare, as he straighned his turtleneck and looked at the closet mirror.

"What now Johnathan?" He said, as he folded his shirt.

"Where's the duffel bag?"

"My appartment. God whats with the questions."

"I told him some parts..He just doesnt need to know yet." Magnus walked past Johnathan and headed downstairs.

Magnus headed to the lounge to see Alec reading Tavvy a book.

"Tavvy come on we are heading home." Mark called out, as Tavvy groaned

"Go and grab your coat Tavvy." Alec tickled him, which made Tavvu laugh and run out of the lounge.

"Are you alright?" Alec said, as Magnus sat beside him.

"Ive been worse." He lied.

"How about tomorrow we go to a nice restaurant just the two of us." Alec said,

"That would be nice." Magnus smiled, resting his head against Alec's.

"Dinner is ready." Maryse called, as the doorbell went.

"Ill get it." Shouted Isabelle.

Max crawled into the lounge, as Alec picked him up.

"Mom fed him so I can put him to bed." Jace announced.

Isabelle came in, followed by an older male.

"Hodge its been a while." Alec smiled, hugging the older man. He hasnt seen Hodge since he was seventeen.

"Im going to be staying here fot a bit..so i need to speak to Maryse." Hodge said walking to the kitchen to see Jocelynn ans Maryse talking

Sebastian and Simon were talking about D&D, and Clary and Jace came downstairs, talking about her new job at a small animation studio.

Johnathan pulled Magnus aside.

"Hodge was one of the bosses that was working on your dad's case." Johnathan whispered.

I think the reason why i love willemmy the most in dn series is because will's not an alpha, hayhahha! Ive read so many books with this dynamic and still am not personally liking extreme alphas MMCs very much, especially alpha (ass)-holes. Might be because of my own personal lack of tolerance to being controlled be it irl or through the fictional characters i read, especially relating to any kind of relationships in general really, so i love will's character a TONNE. In fact, in the royal elite series by rina kent, i love ronan & teal the most, and i believe its for the same reason. It goes the same with non-dark romances, i love jacob & eve brown from act your age eve brown & the first book's couple: get a life chloe brown, fox & hannah from hook, line and sinker, esme & khai from the bride test, pippa & ravi from a good girls guide to murder, and literally every book by abby jimenez except for the friend zone (because i hated that one), especially daniel from part of your world and jason from happily ever after playlist. Adding to that, my top fav characters from the shadowhunter chronicles (simon, alex, jem, raphael, henry) had very similar character traits too. Theyre not the popular guys of the series, also maybe because theyre pretty chill, but theyre always IT for me. I found these kind of characters's personalities and attributes so attractive. They make me giggling screaming kicking my feet and shit, haha! Like idk, theres something appealing about a man (.especially with some golden retriever traits) who can offer me something and makes me want to have him by my side anyway without them having to control my own narrative or personal choices almost all the time, is just so appealing to me.

Other than that, if you have read even some of these books, you would know that a lot of these books have another similar thing (except for raphael and alec): the MMCs know theyre being loved, desired and cared for AND their feelings were all written ON THE PAGE, not just in passing etc., and i think that was what seals the deal for me. The vulnerability and intimacy of the MMCs' thoughts and feelings of being loved by their significant others. My issue with corrupt (and even hideaway and kill switch) was that, unlike the fandom's hate towards rika's love for michael, i love that rika was showing us how much michael meant to her and how much she desires him; i love it when FMCs go after men that they want to be with. But its always about rika rika rika, but never really about how michael FEELS about it / after he received that amount of love and care, especially after he get out of his angsty head. We saw rika so happy with how michael made her feel; cherished, desired etc. but what about michael's in depth POV? I wanna see how michael feels about it too! We were always told he was happy in the extras, but cant pd actually just take some time and show us on page or wrote even a page or two about how these MMCs actually feel on page in the book, for once? Im begging for crumbs! Im always frustrated with this trope (?) because to me, what was exactly personally lacking for the execution of this trope about alpha MMCs like in corrupt, hideaway and kill switch most of the time, was it was usually not written on page in their povs, about how loved and desired these MMCs feel now. They were usually just dismissed with some context clues, others' povs or a side note about their life with their women. Its also always about how amazing and loved they made the FMCs feel, not the other way around. And thats the thing, I KNOW theyre loved, like everyday michael, kai, damon woke up feeling loved by their women, but i wanna see them acknowledging the love they had and how much that made their day and life!!! Im nosy, feed me more, and please give me the flufffffff haha!

--And Idk if thats on the writer for not portraying the trope well, or it's just how the trope is written because romance are usually written not only for the enjoyment of the author and the audience, but for a heavily targeted audience (women) where they want to self project themselves into the story, so they always want to know more about how the MMC treats and reacts to the FMC, rather than a pov of how the FMC impacted the MMC in his lens in a deeper way (this is a well known fact among romance authors i believe, even pd ackowledged this in one of their goodreads questions when someone asked them about their story crafting and how that relates to the advertising side of selling their stories. If you noticed, pd didnt really write characters like banks and emory a lot, even in their other series or stand-alones, because i think its probably because banks and emory's characters are almost everything of what WOULDNT sell in this industry, sadly--also because pd just might not want to write something they dont want to but who knows? Not me. Anyway, Its the double standards and misogyny tbh, because a lot romance readers, funnily enough even when being female presented themselves, still cant put aside their own internalised misogyny, double standards and purity culture ideologies that they have for real and fictional women, and projected those mary sue traits to women around them, as if women or fictional women have to adhere to a different sets of morality and standards as compared to fictional men who did worse, and can do whatever they want, but still be loved by many of these women. Thats why, romance's bad reviews are usually "i cant relate to her" or "i couldnt connect to emory". Understandable, but it still sounds weird to me, idk, maybe just me. But this is a whole 'nother topic).--

Coming back to the topic, I noticed this pattern within the alpha MMCs trope (most of the time), and it took away my enjoyment from fully loving books like that. I just wanna see couples fighting with/for each other, and BOTH the FMC and MMC (at least for non-queer couples) to love and be shown on page, how loved they felt by the other you know. All we get usually is an indication that the FMC was interested in the MMC and then it's done. I just wanna see all the gushy feelings of Michael, Kai and damon when they realised how loved they are, how they noticed all the little and big things rika, banks and winter had done or shown to them etc. but we never really got to see it. The most feelings i get from them are in their extras or novellas, but even then, it's not enough!!! Like please, continue to gush about your happy life and how happy your women make you feel!!! Like put aside your pride and show us more loving things!! Its not embarrassing because how can loving someone so wholeheartedly like that be embarrassing? Thats why i'll never stand with people shaming rika or any women tbh for showing how much they want to love their men. Its not embarrassing to want someone that badly, but I also wished she had more self preservation (which she did later on in the series), without having to tone down her desire of wanting to love michael either, so basically a good balance between these two points would be great. Like I just wanna see you two happy individually, and together!!! Please!

So thats why willemmy's book was appealing to me, because not only we saw them pining for each other in their heads, and when they couldnt control it, it always, AWLAYS!! show through their facial expressions and body languages. Like they just cannot help themselves because they were just so in love!!!! And then we got more pining, and the cycle repeats, even after 10 years, they were pining non-stop!! Yes, please! This level of appreciation shown for and by each other is so delicious! Hahahaha! We also saw how loved they felt by the other CONSTANTLY on page (on page!!!) even in the weirdest moments when others kept on interrupting them, or when they were in denial about their feelings, or even in the epilogue with their extended families. Like emmy's pining for will? Top tier. Emmy acknowledging how good and wholesome will makes her feel? Then we saw how much he chershes her? Fucking amazing! Even better than Top tier. Will acknowledging his feelings for emmy? Top tier. Will shown on page about how amazing and fulfilling it felt like to be loved by her? Then we saw will acknowledging how she indulges him? Fucking amazing! Even better than Top tier! Hahahaha! Yes! Show me how happy you are with each other!!! Moreee! Thats why I was so sad that we only usually get these kind of crumbs from michaelrika, kaibanks and winterdamon in the extras, novellas or near the epilogues. Like Its not enough!!!!! Gimme moreeeeeee!!!

Now, end of my ranting and sharing, what about you, what do you like most about willemmy?

It sounds like you like a guy who can be vulnerable. I get that. I think more than anything, a romance should be obvious from both sides?

There’s definitely a double-standard in fiction (and the real world) with expecting a FMC to be vulnerable and open from the get go while expecting a MMC to strong and stoic, almost to the point of emotionless, until the relationship stable and then he can be openly happy. However, once the relationship is stable, the story ends, so we don’t get to read that part. Because no one wants to read their 9 to 5 every day boring life when they came to see the couple fight and smash.

But stoic is not emotionless, so there should be a way to show the depth of MMC’s feelings without taking away their broodiness. I’m not sure if it’s because the general audience only wants the broody type character or that it’s a struggle to portray, but I agree with your analysis that there is an issue in the genre.

((But I’ve never been in love or a man, so far be it for me to accuse anyone of writing a man-in-love wrong.))

I have read or started some of those books (mostly started and didn’t finish). Personally, I don’t mind if the MMC is a little bit of an alpha-hole, as long as there’s a balance and an explanation, not just because. And I don’t mind if the FMC is a little submissive or shy if it’s done well. It’s not my go-to, but not something I avoid (I’ll point to the Crown Point series by Mary Catherine Gebherd as one I didn't mind reading (specifically Gray and Story, but I really enjoyed the first one. It’s just Abigail is not that submissive). I’ve only finished the first two and probably won’t continue (unless we get Gemma and Grim’s story) but they’re not bad. Can I just divert another second to say…the Horsemen of Crown Point seem so much more intense than the Horsemen of Thunder Bay, and I’ve only read two scenes with Grim… so that says a lot… ).

But that’s the point, right? We want characters that are done well. Characters who have traits that make sense, not just to have them because they fit the mold. There should be reasons why a character behaves a certain way. Sure, personalities develop individually and sometimes the character doesn’t know why they act a certain way, but as a reader who is getting the narrative, we should be able to identify why.

Even if a MMC doesn’t know what he’s feeling or why he’s feeling it, we as the reader should know it’s because ohhhhh they got it bad. They got hit so hard with the Simp Stick. Instead, we get them manically mumbling, “That’s mine. I don’t know why she’s mine but I can’t imagine her with anyone else, so she’s mine,” like some psychos.

And because of that, that it’s refreshing when a MMC can realize “It’s because I love her that I’m doing this. What? Did you think I was going to deny it? Have you seen her? Of course, I love her. I’ve never loved anything more.”

It hard to find a balance between those two extremes.

You’re probably right about characters like Emory and Banks not selling, for all those reasons you mentioned. It’s discussed often enough that people want strong FMC but – not like that. We don’t want characters who can be��� mean. We want characters who can fight! And be soft for the people they care about! And not be a doormat, but still submissive with their man. (Please note my heavy use of sarcasm)

Emory and Banks fall into that "but they're so mean" category because they do what they say they're going to do and sometimes that means hurting the other characters (*gasp* even their *gulp* love interest). There are a lot of FMC who I would consider strong, but not the industry standard of strong. I’ve rb a lot of leverage stuff, but Parker and Sophie are good examples of strong FCs who don’t fit the mold (Parker also occupies a close space in my head to Emory, so there could be some overlap in how I'm processing them).

It is weird, however, when a reader is faced with a character who makes decisions they don’t agree with and reasons “I couldn’t relate to her”. Well, she’s not you! Do you think every MC should be you? Every MC should make the decision you would make? How did we get to this point? And it does seem to be something I've seen happening exclusively in the romance genre. I don't see other series/genre where the FMC are being critiqued to such a degree for not performing as a damsel for the MMC to save every second they're on the page together. But I could just not be aware the conversation is happening. A lot of things do fly over my head.

Anyway, back to DN.

I can laugh at Rika for a lot of things, but wanting Michael is not one of them (actually sometimes it is. He's fun to make fun of. but it’s all in good fun, right? Like they’re just characters. People shouldn’t get so angry. Just laugh). But like you, I would have liked to see some of the softer, tender moments between them. I think one of the softest moments we got from Corrupt was the end flashback when Rika’s 13 and Michael listens to her and then thinks “She corrupted me.” I don’t know why, but Michael acknowledging that Rika was part of why he started Devil’s Night is really… "awwww" for me. But I think for the most part, that’s the softest thing we get from him?

I think part of the problem with Michael is that he doesn’t have a good tolerance for expressing emotions in public spaces. He’s had to deal with his father feeding off his every reaction since childhood, trying to find ways to manipulate him, and then with Trevor doing the same, so he’s learned how to shut it down. From an outside perspective, an observer probably wouldn’t see much from him.

That being said…our other narrators are supposed to be his closest friends, so they should be able to also catch his little tells with Rika. I haven’t read the series to pick out Rika/Michael moments, so I couldn’t tell you if they do, but I don’t remember any sticking out.

So, for those moments we'd have to rely on bonus material. Personally, I wouldn’t mind those little moments. Seeing the characters outside the tension-filled plot would help me to understand them and their dynamics better. For example, I loved the moments in the past scenes when we got to see the boys just being friends because. Well, I love friendships in media, but also because it was just nice to see them being them as they were before things went sideways. I would eat up the boring, 9-to-5, day-to-day moments of these characters if it meant we get to see them being in love and a family, and not just told yeah, they’re doing fine.

To answer you’re questions, I have no idea what it is that hooked me on Willemmy exactly. It does check some of my trope boxes.

One fell first but the other fell harder.

I read the first three books for the plot outside the romance, but I do enjoy romance quite a bit, so the fact that NF’s past scenes romance felt more like a romantic drama than a high-speed/suspense plot might have seal the deal for me. There was just so many cute moments that had me smiling and there were moments that had me all the way in my deepest feels for both of these characters, whereas the other books had me leaning towards one character or the other.

I know readers talk a lot of trash about the series, Banks and Emory, and NF (and I’m not excluding myself, but I do try to be respectful), but the past scenes in NF was a well-rounded story and NF does have some really solid stuff in there. With NF, I honestly feel that you could take the past scenes, clean them up a bit and give it a small time-skip conclusion and you’d have good novel all on its own. Which doesn't work the other books in the series! NF weakest part is that it’s the conclusion of a large story that wasn’t originally planned when the first novel was published. Everything besides that is, as you said, Top Tier.

Hearing Raphael yell Magnus raced to the room with Alec trailing behind after being woken up by Magnus getting out of bed as fast as he could. While racing down the hallway Magnus nearly tripped multiple times before reaching the doorway out of breath. Alec rubbed Magnus’ back while Magnus tried to regain his breath. When Magnus and Alec looked at Raphael, Raphael looked at you.

“She won’t talk to me, she just grabbed that picture in her hands and pointed to you both in it to make me call out to you” Raphael said getting up and leaving the room.

“Y/N?” Alec whispered once he and Magnus sat down on either side of her “Are you okay?”

All you could was shake your head and move the blanket off you. Magnus and Alec looked very confused at you. “What happened?” Magnus asked sounding very concerned. You looked at the door waiting for it to close which Magnus did with his magic before you turned your attention back to the two men in front of you.

“When the demons attacked last night we were majorly out numbered. Although we were close to each other during it they managed to separate me from him.” You looked at your hands “They were all little demons we were fighting but once they separated me from him they had pretty much pushed me around a block away from him.” You looked back up at them with tears in your eyes, they grab your hands tightly.

“It’s okay Y/N/N. You’re not alone. You can tell as anything you know that” Alec said.

“They little demons kept their distance but still surrounded me when a much larger demon came towards me. It did things to me; I killed it before heading back to Raphael.” You were now crying and shaking in fear.

Magnus looked up at Alec “Call your mother tell her we need the infirmary cleared and for no one to enter there without getting authority from me. Then call your sister tell her we need an ultrasound machine and to not tell anyone we need it” Magnus tell Alec before holding you tightly and watching Alec leave before yelling “Tell Raphael I’ll create a portal for him to get back to the Hotel”

When Magnus left you got changed into something much looser and headed out just as Raphael walked through the portal to the hotel. You walked over to Alec holding his waist tightly as if you were holding on for dear life. “Izzy says that everyone is out of the infirmary and everything is set up for us when we get there” Alec told Magnus.

Magnus created another portal for you three to get into the infirmary. You let go of Alec before walking through to Isabelle and hugging her tightly. You let go of her and headed to the bed set up. As Alec walked through Izzy started to yell at Alec, “You didn’t say Y/N was the patient. I thought it was just someone you found”

“Iz you never asked who the patient was now please can we get this over with so we don’t raise too much suspicion on what’s happening in here” Alec said before heading towards you with Magnus and Izzy following.

Once the ultrasound was done you pointed at Izzy and moved you finger for her to come towards you and shooing the boys out. Izzy leant down and you whispered in her ear, “Jace and tell him to lock the door once he’s in” She nods at you before leaving.

You watch Jace walked in looking like a mess but smiled at you after he locked the door.  You moved over in your bed so there was space for Jace to lay next to you. Once laying down you placed your head on his chest. He stroked your hair like he use to when you were sick. “You okay?” He asked finally.

You looked him in the eyes “If you call being pregnant with half demon half shadowhunter babies okay then yes im ok”

He held you tighter and whispered “You having two children, shadowhunting warlocks” He laughed, “Magnus is going to be an adoptive grandfather. That explains why he’s looked so scared when I walked past him to get here.”

“If the other shadowhunters here find out they will look at me like I’m a failure” You started to cry.

“No one else will find out just me, Izzy, Alec and Magnus. Magnus will hide you till the babies are born and then you may come back but if you don’t me, Iz and Alec will visit and if I have to and the babies warlock marks are similar to Magnus’ and can be hidden I will claim them as my children okay? Even if they aren’t and we aren’t together we can do this okay? Together” He smiles at you kissing your head lightly.

“And what if the clave asks us to you know?” you whisper

“We’ll get to it when it comes”

soooooooo....the last I left them was at Magnus and Jace recovering from their respective injuries at Magnus's place..under the stern care of one Alec Lightwood.. :P

I have so maaannnyy ideas for this which all currently live rent free in my brain coz i dont know how to charge them..:P

soo...because they cant go anywhere..they're having a movie night at Magnus's..Simon shows up early so he is hanging out with them and they are both sizing him up (their relationship is going to be like Simon is the braincell in this trio :P) aaannd.. Magnus is sitting between Alec and Jace on the couch and Magnus and Jace keep on talking in whispers between the movie and they are talking about how Jace should ask Clary out and Jace is like how can I? i dont think she even likes me and Magnus is like she definitely likes you and they continue this for a while unaware that they are very much audible to everyone in the room and Izzy and Alec are smirking at each other they just love Jace embarrassing himself in front of Clary who is red as tomato and Simon is the one who is finally like would you two stop! we can all hear you! :P

Jace has nightmare, gets into Malec’s bed cuddling Magnus Alec be like huh??

Izzy arrives in the morning and sees them all walk out of Magnus’ bedroom and is like do you boys have some weird arrangement going on that I don’t know about?

Magnus’ fashion show, Jace arrives early, they stare at a model named Matt thinking…..doesnt he remind you of someone? They give Matt an eerie wave in the mirror, Raphael is like stop leering at the guy! He looks like Alec, you dumbasses! They go ooooooohh!!

Magnus’ show stopper model Dom hurt, and then Magnus goes wait a min you look like him!!! Jace takes spot as show stopper.

Alec arrives a little late, he is worried about Jace not being there, the show is set to start in 30 minutes, he knows Magnus would be upset a lil if Jace doesn’t show up.

Clary Simon and Izzy arrive, they all get concerned too about Jace, Izzy is like He wont miss this, im more worried about why he isn’t here.

Alec asks Clary if she has seen him, she’s like he texted me an hour and half ago that he was leaving.

Raphael comes over to greet them hears their conversation and goes, “Now I’m more worried that Papa isn’t here either,” he looks at Clary and goes, “are we sure Blondie isn’t cheating on you?”

Clary Raphael!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alec, offended and amused.

Si throws a knowing smirk at Raph, who winks, and Izzy looks at him questioningly.

Then Jace walks out at the end of the show and Alec is relived but also wants to murder him.

Jace and Magnus walk the ramp, Alec is like thank fuck he is my boyfriend or I’d have moved to England.

Magnus pulls Alec up, and they kiss as paps take pictures.

Family dinner.

Magnus standing grumpily next to Asmo,

Alec and Izzy are standing on either sides of Maryse, both grumpy.

Maryse and Asmo are annoyed too.

Si, Clary and Jace arrive.

Jace goes and hugs Maryse, gets glared at by Izzy and Alec.

Jace then pulls away from her and grins at Asmodeus, “Papa!” before hugging him too, much to Magnus’ irritation.

Si, chuckles, and Clary who can sense the sour mood on everyone’s face whispers, “What?”

“Raphael said Magnus and Asmodeus had a fight, and Izzy texted me she and Alec had a fight with Maryse, since Jace doesn’t work with either of them and hasn’t fought with them, the kids are a little jealous of the golden boy.”

Clary smiles.

Alec cuddles into the warm body as sleep slips away from him. He buries his head in Magnus’ neck and takes a deep inhale as he stretches out his body. Weird! This isn’t what Magnus smells like?

He nuzzles Magnus’ neck and presses a light kiss.

“Mmmm, not Magnus!”

Alec’s eyes snap open and at the sight of blond hair he jumps out of the bed.

“Oh! Fucking hell! Fuck off! You fucking-“

“Stop shouting!” Jace says as he rolls over pulling the covers over his head.

Alec snatches the covers away from him and throws them to the recliner, and proceeds to literally kick his brother off the bed.

“What the hell, Alec!”

“You’re asking me? Me?”

“Do you see anyone else here?”

“You’re not allowed in our bed from now on! I will kick you out if I see you in this fucking bed again!”

“Oh yeah! I didn’t want to wake up to be molested by my brother either! But here we are!”

Alec picks up something off the nightstand, which he would later realize to be his own cell, and threw it at his brother, who ducked just in time.

Magnus entered the room with Chairman in hands just as whatever he had thrown crashed into the wall.

“Dude!”

“Alexander?” Magnus asked, confused, “what’s going on here?”

“He isn’t allowed in our bed anymore, Magnus, that’s final,” he said in lieu of explanation.

Magnus seemed to ponder for a bit before he shrugged, “I can’t say I’m opposed to that, but why the sudden assertiveness?”

“He molested me, that’s why,” Jace said, and this time alec threw a pillow at him.

“What?” Magnus said frowning.

ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok. so i think the saddest part about this is magnus' assumption that like... if he isn't useful, he isn't desirable. which we know is 100% how magnus rolls (therapy-needing icon) and would particularly ring true in raphael's case because like... magnus took raphael in when raphael was at his lowest. their relationship was started off by the fact that raphael needed him. and that makes it even harder for magnus to shake that feeling off

like, don't misquote me, it's not raphael's fault and that is not how he sees magnus at all. and i don't think magnus singlehandedly saved raphael or whatever; raphael had to build his own network of ppl and resources to get over his addiction and get back on his feet and build himself back together, as anyone does. no one can carry a burden as big as singlehandedly taking care of any one person, nevermind one in the state rapha was in. but the fact remains: raphael and magnus met when raphael was at his lowest, and they built their relationship because magnus helped him

and magnus knows raphael's got this whole repentance thing going on, he knows that raphael feels like a monster and a burden and like his debt to magnus is unmeasurable. and that makes him second-guess everything about their relationship, imo, because like... raphael probably feels like he has to keep magnus company, he has to do as he says or whatever, because he has a debt

and to some extent it's nice that magnus is like... aware of that imbalance, which is inherent to that situation, but then i think it becomes pretty much... being convinced that raphael doesn't like him and only puts up with him because he has to since he owes magnus

and when magnus "adopted" rapha, magnus was at a particular fragile point. i'm pretty sure rapha was the first person magnus ever let into his life, fully, enough to really know him and his insecurities and his true self, after camille. his other friends - catarina, dot, ragnor, elias - all knew him from before. and we know how after camille magnus locked his heart; yes, he was referring to romantic relationships, but when you are constantly afraid of falling in love with someone in case they will abuse you, you can't fully build platonic relationships either, because there is that wall that is there, a certain level of intimacy that you won't allow yourself

and with that i don't mean that romantic relationships are inherently more intimate or deeper than platonic ones! i mean that to build any sort of intimate relationship, romantic or platonic, you need to be able to allow yourself to be vulnerable, and magnus was obviously not allowing himself that, because he was scared of being vulnerable after it was used so viciously against him the last time he opened up his heart

but magnus is still too caring of a person to leave someone in a state as bad as raphael's - no sire, battling addiction, alone in the streets, probably no knowledge of the shadow world (this is probably where i should add my mandatory disclaimer that i'm not following book canon and i don't care how it went there, i'm talking about the show), no clan, no family, basically no one - alone, so of course he's gonna bring him in for a night and feed him and try to find a way to help him

but then you add to that two facts: 1- magnus is hopelessly affection and touch-starved and desperately needs company; 2- there is not many places raphael can actually go to

so of course magnus lets raphael stay. and it's for his own sake as much as it is for his, because again, magnus is starved, and he is at a point of his recovery where he needs to let people in, even if it's slowly and in a relatively safe situation - like, what can raphael do to hurt him? okay, there's a few things, but still. it's just easier to let yourself be vulnerable when the person you're allowing to see it is someone you've seen equally as or even more vulnerable. especially if they have no connections to people you know, as it is in rapha's case

PLUS, he empathises. i've said it before and i'll say it again, raphael and magnus have so much in common. from background (immigrants, brown, downworlders, one is bi the other is ace which are two groups known for their ties and solidarity with each other, trans if you go by my headcanons which i will because this is my blog and i do what i want) to coping mechanisms (both clearly deal with their problems on their own and try to avoid letting other people help them as much as they can, even if in very different ways - magnus creates a persona so he can be surrounded by people and not let them in too close whereas raphael doesn't let them get close from the get-go), to some of their personal psychological issues (this unbearable responsibility they carry on their shoulders, like everything and everyone is dependant on them and it is on them personally to help everyone they find: see raphael and how involved he got with simon and the way he talked about the other vampires/the clan even before he became clan leader, and magnus and Literally Everyone That Came Into His Path; the feelings of monstrosity they both feel due to their downworlder status and their past; the guilt; the self sacrificial/giving til it hurts tendencies; etc), to a few personality traits (similar sense of humor, both natural leaders, both pretty bold in their own ways; they also have many differences in personality but they are quite compatible/similar in other ways as well).... i could go on. i'm not saying they are Literally The Same Character (that'd be bad writing anyway, and there are notable differences such as raphael being way more recluse than magnus, their different moral codes, etc.) but there is a lot in common, which results in a nice dynamic in which:

they have fun with each other (think "because you're totally unbiased"; that was clearly a tease, neither of them were really upset by it, raphael looked at magnus expectantly like he expected magnus to laugh and magnus just glared at him in a clearly playful way)

they care for each other deeply (think every interaction we got between them or that included them talking about each other to a third person lmao i think this one is undeniable)

they trust each other incredibly (think raphael being tortured and going to magnus before he went to his own clan, then staying at his house, he obviously feels comfortable and safe there more than anywhere else including his own supposed home; and i wish we had gotten to see more of raphael taking care of magnus as well but of course the writers always forgot magnus had friends and family beyond shadowhunters lmao, but still, i think it's undeniable that the trust goes both ways because of the sheer difference in the way magnus treated raphael as opposed to other people who came for his help, including downworlders like simon)

they are openly affectionate with each other in a way they aren't with most people (think them hugging or the way magnus casually touched raphael's face like it was perfectly normal. that is like, the only s3 raphael scene i claim lmao)

hmmm where was i going with this. man i should really get checked for ADHD or whatever

RIGHT they built a nice relationship. which magnus craved!!! he really really needed someone he could be affectionate with, someone he could trust, someone he had fun with! and again, it's not that he didn't have that, but it was the first time he was building a relationship like this again from scratch after camille. plus, i'm sure camille pushed him away from his friends because that's what abusers do, and i'm sure magnus also pushed them away to some extent because again, being vulnerable was hard. but with raphael there was no escaping it. like, he was living at magnus' house

and he needed that! and i think raphael and their relationship had such an important catalyst role in magnus' recovery from camille. not that raphael saved him - again, that's not even possible - but the way their relationship was constructed was essential for magnus to start opening up again. without it i really doubt it would have been possible for him to open up to alec, and i think their relationship and history is extremely overlooked and underrated by the fandom

but like... the fact that he was in such a vulnerable emotional state to begin with, plus the fact that their relationship was kickstarted by the fact that raphael needed him, will obviously lead to him thinking that raphael only puts up with him or whatever because he needs him/feels indebted (because magnus knows at this point that raphael is not the kind to use people, but he also knows that raphael already acts like his mere presence in the world is something he has to make up for it's the catholicism so of course he's gonna feel like he needs to make up for magnus for such a huge gesture. anyone who's not an asshole would, but like, particularly raphael). cue magnus like, probably feeling guilty for getting so attached to raphael because he's an idiot

and like of course raphael feels indebted and grateful but he also does genuinely in fact like magnus (for all the reasons listed above) and also like, he did in fact also need more connections, he had just lost all of his previous ones. but most importantly he does care for magnus and loves him immensely even beyond all that magnus did for him. and he does see magnus as a person and knows about his struggles and vulnerabilities because it's impossible not to when you live/have lived together, and he just... cares and empathises

but also raphael obviously thinks he's a burden to magnus because duh, and i don't think magnus ever really told raphael how much taking raphael in helped him, how much it meant to him and his recovery, how he was doing it for himself as much as he was doing it for rapha, because 1- he's scared of being so open and vulnerable; 2- he's scared of making raphael feel even more guilty; 3- he's stupid and i think part of him assumed it went without saying

like he was always so openly affectionate with raphael (maybe even too much in his eyes, maybe he was scared of being too attached, putting too much on his shoulders, it's not this traumatized kid's job to deal with his issues for fuck's sake) and magnus has always worn his heart in his sleeve and he feels everything so deeply i think he sometimes forgets that it's not actually plain for everyone to see and feel. particularly not non-warlocks, since it's kinda implied that warlocks have some level of sensitivity to each other going on. plus raphael is autistic af so he can't tell what magnus is feeling if magnus doesn't fucking say it, and he has a terminally low self esteem that i assume would be even lower by that point (due to, you know... the general shitshow state his life was in), so of course he doesn't assume he's as important to magnus as magnus is to him, particularly not when he is literally burdening him (in raphael's eyes). so he thinks it's obvious but it's Really Not

so we have like a lot of misunderstanding angst with both of them wanting to get closer but thinking they are imposing on the other and pulling away, and both of them taking the other pulling away as a sign that they aren't comfortable and aaaa

so like i think that rapha would mention moving out so he can get out of magnus' hair, and magnus is all crestfallen because he's so not ready to be alone at home again, but he can't be selfish and hold the kid back just because he has shit he needs to deal with, right? it's not fair

and then like lowkey spiralling afraid that after that he's going to be alone again and raphael won't want to see him anymore, or worse, that he'll force himself to out of pity or guilt, and magnus will just be a chore to him

and raphael feeling like magnus wants to get rid of him and will want him out of his hair and aaaaaaaaaaa

and magnus of course is all put together and excited about it, "yes, my boy, don't worry, i'll help you move" and playfully tilting his head and being all excited and getting into chop-chop mode because as long as he can make himself useful he can avoid thinking about how he's gonna be alone again. and rapha of course taking this as magnus being eager for him to leave

and just doijasiodjasoij they're IDIOTS. i think this would be more or less resolved by raphael because at the very least he has to thank magnus for everything he's done and tell magnus that he means so much to him, that he'll always be thankful. and magnus again is all put together, all "it was nothing, my boy" but rapha pulls him into a hug and suddenly they are Not Letting Each Other Go. like it's tight and maybe they're both shaking a little because Badly Repressed Emotions and they're just. so unwilling to let each other go for what they feel like will be forever because they are sad and dramatic. and raphael even wonders for a second if he's like, super strengthing magnus into the hug by accident, but even when he tries to let go magnus doesn't even notice and is still hugging him tight, so he's like. okay. guess i can stay for a little longer then. and keeps hugging him

and it's so much bullshit of course and raphael is pissed - not at magnus, he couldn't be mad at him, but just pissed in general. and he draws magnus in for a hug and tells him that he can always come to raphael, whenever he needs, and raphael will drop everything to help him. the clan is doing okay (especially post-valentine and impending doom and all, you know, they can take care of themselves lmao. like look of course raphael is a very involved leader but you get what i mean, they won't die if he goes help magnus with something) and he has second-in-commands he trusts anyway. and he doesn't want magnus to hide his problems for him and not come for his help and aaa

just.... rapha being like "you think i wouldn't do anything i could for you? anything to make sure you're alright?" and magnus being like "you don't have to" and raphael going, "you didn't have to do it for me either. but you did" "you don't owe me anything" "i do, but this is not about that. magnus, you're my family" and magnus tearing up because it is so immense to him to be someone's family, something he almost can't grasp

and magnus slowly learning that no, raphael doesn't need him, but that's not important because he wants magnus in his life anyway. and they can always rely on each other, no matter what, even if they aren't dependant on each other - and that is a good thing :)

the first major snowfall in ages finally hit nyc recently and all im imaging is the Polycule attaching snowboards and the such to the back of simons van and them just being happy with snow day activities

oof, this ask is from so many months ago, i'm so sorry. i was very busy. i'm also not sure how great my answer will be because i'm a whole ass brazilian so i have no idea what snow day activies are, but i will try anyway

so, major advantages: meliorn has magic and maia is a werewolf and if i'm not mistaken it's said or implied that werewolves have a higher core body temperature than humans. or maybe i made that up, but it's canon for me

major disadvantages: raphael and simon are vampires, which means that technically they are kind of "cold-blooded" creatures? i mean they would still have other important temperature regulating mechanisms such as mitochrondrial heat production and muscle contraction, but they basically don't have a heartbeat/blood flow/arguably blood at all, which is a major way of regulating core temperature, and canonically their skin feels pretty cold, so like. they probably are more suscetible to temperature changes is what i'm saying (i'm mostly going off this source [link] for this. i'm already overthinking this answer good job me)

plus i am once again saying that raphael is from guadalajara which means that like me he is used to Worm Temperchoores, like, WAY warmer than NYC's, and he grew up without pretty much any kind of snow at all. and sure he's lived in NYC for years so he's SOMEWHAT used to the cold but he still spent his formative years in guadalajara, so like. he fucking hates the cold, is my point

but back to major advantages: meliorn and magic! which means they can do something about it. don't ask me what, but i'm sure they can do Something. i mean i'm sure to some extent the downworld has already figured out a solution to this problem cuz while it might not kill them (since they're immortal) it is very uncomfortable and probably makes them slower, which is a disadvantage to say the least. plus raphael has magnus who knows that raphael is a grumpy ass in the cold. also i think java is similarly hot so magnus Gets It, but idk what the temperatures usually are in jakarta

anyway my point is that magnus probably got some coats/vests/blankets spelled for his boy so they can keep him toasty (since they are otherwise kinda useless for vampires since they rely on trapping body heat and vampires don't have any) and vampires in general probably have access to that kinda stuff, but still, rapha gets grumpy and his face is still cold and everything is just awful and he doesn't understand how gringos do it. his complaints fly for about 2 days before the New Yorker Squad™ (particularly simon and maia, who drag clary and inevitably everyone else is there) decides that they've had enough of this and that raphael will learn how to enjoy the snow

he is like "i am not willingly going into the snow! you don't understand, i'm a vampire, i won't get back my body heat the way you do". simon: "i literally am also a vampire". raphael: "you're just a fledgeling, you wouldn't understand" "i've been a vampire for like, ten years!" "seven" "same thing" "it's so not the-" "i have gone through enough winters to be able to understand, and you, sir, are going to learn to enjoy the snow. have you EVER even made a snow angel?" "no" "well this changes today"

he literally has no excuse because meliorn has this super sweet spell that keeps him from losing heat so like. he doesn't even need a coat (he's still wearing it and preferably also a scarf and gloves because he is, first and foremost, dramatic) so he is forced to have a day off and go play in the snow, woe is him

(he tells the clan that should they need anything they should ring him, but they're like "nah simon has promised us pictures of you in the snow, we can handle ourselves" and it's not like raphael is too busy these days, really)

anyway! they have fun. simon strikes me as the winter lover kind of person altho really i think he enjoys all seasons in their own way, but like... hot chocolate and scarves and snow fights, yes? and while i think maia might prefer warmer temperatures she can double enjoy herself in the snow now that she's a werewolf because she gets less cold and like, damn, tell me that being a wolf and jumping headfirst into a pile of snow wouldn't be fun. you can't, unless you're a bad taste bitch

i also think maia is the building snow forts kind of gal because, idk, she just looks that way. and sure she's excited about kicking everyone's asses during snowball fight but FIRST she needs to have a full fort complete with towers and windows for her to throw snowballs from and shit

rapha is the one that helps her build it the most cuz he likes the motions and besides it is a little less energetic than whatever it is that the rest of these wackos are doing. again izzy didn't get any chances to play in the snow either so naturally clary is dragging her around from snow activity to snow activity and running around everywhere and holy shit they have so much energy. simon is there as well naturally and eventually they make it their goal in life to ruin maia's and rapha's fort, which ends up kickstarting the mandatory snowball fight. even tho maia only has a half complete fort

(eventually when everyone has left maia and rapha will come back and finish the fort. it's the principle of the thing. raphael also wants to build an igloo or some shit and maia rolls her eyes but actually i can see him being into building snow things? it's just soothing and nice and quiet and he can pretend there's Elegance and Finesse to it)

and meliorn is just watching them curiously the whole time because of course they know snow but they dont really know about Snow Activities these funky little non-seelies dedicate themselves too. i feel like the seelies have their own snow activities, maybe like, festivals? dances with the snowfall and games to welcome the change in the environment, that sort of thing. but they are nothing like snow angels ("it doesn't look like an angel in the slightest, just like you kept moving your legs and arms in the snow" "thats what it is" "right, so...?") or snowmen ("also doesn't look like a man" "meliorn we aren't exactly artists") or snow fights (altho that one they can appreciate) and they're really interested in like participating even though they dont understand and everyone has to keep telling them that it's Not That Deep and izzy is so amused she just kisses them one billion times

eventually they start doing it just to get more of those laugh-filled kisses of hers

also at least one of them, probably izzy of rapha or meliorn since they are the snow ignorant ones of the group, is absolutely horrible at making snowmen. probably izzy tbh because shadowhunters dont exactly have a knack for these things. like clary's snowman is all artistic and simon's is fun and creative, maia's is pretty, raphael's and meliorn's look like the Platonic Ideal Of A Snowman, and izzy's looks like A Pile Of Dirt. clary giggles at it for an embarrassing amount of time, which inevitably leads to izzy taking the snow from her snowman to throw snowballs at clary and triggering a new snowfight

and then they have some soup inside and cuddle under a blanket as they fight over what they should watch and all is well with the world

Splinter was a man of honour back in his day. He was strong, cunning, vigilant, and most of all... caring. He took in four turtles with each their own big character. A single father (amd a rat), he had to scavange and barter and steal from the streets while making sure they were safe. He had to teach them the way of ninja when they were only 3 and he has many stories. But for now he'll share the basics of his children

•Splinter was able to count the rings on his boys shells to tell how old they were (2rings=1year) Leo was 5, raph and donatello were 4, and Michelangelo was only reaching 1 year

•Leo looked up to Splinter too, always going with him most frequently to the surface. Donatello would work up the stuff they got while Raph would keep mikey happy

•Leo loved playing with michelangelo the most. They would play simon says and pirate space ship. He was always the captain though

•(for me) When you're in a big family there is always the two who fight the most. That would be Leo and Raphael. Constantly they would butt heads and always Splinter had to seperate them. No matter how much he taught Leonardo the power of patience and integrity it seemed Raphael always got under his skin.

•Donatello never had a problem with anyone. He was born softspoken and gentle but with the brains of a genius. His true talent peaked at only 5. The intelligence of your sweet Matilda, able to read and write. Doing quick math and could catch onto anything quick. Which meant he was quick at getting out of trouble too

•Michelangelo was a wild child. Anytime Master Splinter thought he finally got him to sit down or sleep he would turn for one second and when he came back michelangelo would be off dping cartwheels or trying to get on his mini skates. He would sit and he would just be thinking and look pissed. Splinter would worry and worry about how he could never relax or untense.

MAGICAL PRINCE MAGNUS AHHHHHHHH okay so obviously prince magnus>>>> because the aesthetic of prince magnus in fancy clothes, with an intricate crown and beautiful jewellery!!! also it means we can get courtship! and political intrigue! he still has magic because i say so!! also because magnus is so perfect he’d be the type of prince with a great relationship with his people so we’d get magnus being the sweetheart he is! also prince magnus overthrowing his father, the tyrannical king asmodeus????? UGH PERFECTION!!!!!! also i’d like to think that after asmodeus is overthrown, magnus still is not yet of age to be crowned king so ragnor (his older cousin, and no dont ask how they’re related) is the regent but really magnus has a lot of input in the ruling and ragnor is there as more of a formality and an advisor to magnus? cat, raphael, and dot are also members of the royal court and are magnus’ closest advisors and they have their own little family you know? also magnus’ mom died of a sickness when magnus was young and it was tragic and he was really broken by it because he loved his mother so much. so asmodeus tries to raise magnus to be the perfect weapon but thanks to his heart of gold and his found family, he doesn’t become the monster his father says he is. he wants to lead his kingdom to greatness, and do his best to help his people recover from asmodeus’ rule and move forward. 

WARRIOR PRINCE ALEC HELL YEAH so with alec i like the idea of him being the crown prince of a neighbouring kingdom and he and magnus meet and it’s like Instant Sparks and they fall in love at first sight, as they tend to do, and it’s amazing. alec would be the prince who has a reputation of being stoic and cold and closed off but he’s just under the weight of all the expectations you know? plus i feel like his kingdom would be a kingdom of warriors and so he’s also excellent in combat and gets a reputation as an amazing archer and strategist. and it’s hard to please the lightwood parents who are forever comparing alec to jace and belittling him, and it’s tough but he does it for izzy and max, so they don’t take the pain. (alec lightwood is the best big brother ever). and he’s got all these ideas to open up idris and form proper alliances with the neighbouring kingdoms, to unify and bring peace to his people.  

FANCY ROYAL BALL FOR LIKE SOMEONE’S ENGAGEMENT IDK IT’S NOT RELEVANT BUT THAT IS WHERE MALEC MEET it’s the 18th birthday of idk clary who’s a princess of some other kingdom idk it’s not relevant the exact occasion and the only thing that matter is this is where all the romance get set up! so it’s a big diplomatic thing and the leader and/or their heirs are expected to attend and magnus goes to represent edom with the immortal squad, and alec is there with izzy (and jace but they just ignore him after he runs after some poor girl to dance wth her). alec exchanges pleasantries with a few of the other guests but he’s not really there for gossip, trying to discuss alliances and trade agreements. magnus is asked to dance by many suitors, but he’s not looking to start a relationship nor to fuel the rumour mill so he politely declines and carries on mingling and soon enough the two princes meet and it’s like magic. magnus makes a terribly cheesy pun in response to a stranger at the bar’s sarcastic retort at some pompous duke and oh no he’s hot!!!! they both smile and introduce themselves with a distinct lack of effortless flair for magnus, or the calm composure typical of alec. they get to talking and it’s easy to see that neither of them have experienced this kind or ease and comforting familiarity when talking to someone outside of their inner circles. 

whilst magnus and alec are falling in love over the course of a conversation, there is some hilarious shenanigans as maia, raphael, meliorn, and simon find themselves tangled in a love quadrangle as they all feel so drawn to one another, taking turns to dance with one another before retreating to their friend groups to be like “they are all so beautiful and sweet and kind please help!!!!” and so ensues one of the most elaborate slow burn romances the royal courts have seen in ages (the betting pool is also exceptionally large and is won by meliorn who with raphael, started more than half the rumours in order to stir the pot and collect the winnings and spoil their partners). 

so anyway back to malec, they talk and have a few drinks and all is well and good and still pretty calm until alec picks up the way magnus is swaying to the music and tapping his feet to the beat, so alec asks magnus to dance and leads him to the dancefloor where they dance the night away, alec more than happy to twirl magnus around the dancefloor and make him giggle and blush, showing him off to everyone else. realising that they’ve attracted quite a fair bit of attention, they decide to steal away to an empty garden and continue dancing in the moonlight, the night is pure and utter perfection, and they part somewhat reluctantly, wanting to spend more time with one another, but also eager for the next day where they have agree to spend the day together. alec steels himself to press a brief, sweet, chaste kiss to magnus’ cheek before leaving to escort a tired and tipsy isabelle back to their guest chambers. magnus is left blushing, hand pressed to his cheek where alec’s warm lips pressed a gentle kiss that gave him butterflies.

COURTSHIP!!!! i desperately need courtship rituals!! like alec sending magnus elaborate flower arrangements with sweet, affectionate messages in flower language, magnus sending alec charmed tokens like a simple necklace or leather bracelet that has protective and healing spells woven into it!! them sending love letter to one another! they spend a lot of time together at social events and at “diplomacy meetings” where yes, they do discuss trade and alliances and what not but also it’s an excuse for them to spend at least a week with one another in either kingdom and they go on picnic dates on palace grounds, sneak out of their rooms at night to stargaze, wander through towns and eat street food (and alec always buys magnus little gifts and tokens that remind him of his love) and they train together, teaching each other the fighting styles of their respective kingdoms, and yes, there is a gratuitous alec teaching magnus archery scene because im fucking weak!!! and alec likes to hang out in the royal apothecary in edom and watch magnus make a whole bunch of cool potions, invent spells, and write magical theory. magnus in turn, is very fond of going to the training sessions of idris’ elite warriors–the shadowhunters, to watch alec obliterate a whole bunch of soldiers at various combat skills. 

BATTLE COUPLE!!!!!! so they’re together for months and all is good but then valentine happens and has been getting his forces gathered during this whole thing and even before it (im just stupid and forgot to mention it sdkfvbabhvjabv) and anyway he attacks!! and the crown princes of idris and edom unite, together with the other young royals from the neighbouring kingdoms and their armies to defeat valentine. and the two of them are damn near impossible to beat, alec with his honed-from-birth warrior skills, and magnus with his proficiency in both magical and non-magical combat. and it goes well at first but then the tides turn and they have to split up and they part and it’s this moment of “i don’t know if we’ll survive this” and they almost go tosay i love you but then alec is like “i’ll tell you when we survive this, so please come back to me, and i’ll come back to you” and they’re both crying a little but they share one last kiss before separating.

the battle ends and they’re desperate to find each other, tearing through the battlefield to find their love. and they finally see each other and run into each other’s arms, both looking a little worse for wear, and they pull away from the embrace long enough for alec to blurt out “i love you” with so much conviction and surety that magnus subconsciously shakes his head, disbelieving that someone could love him of all people, before confessing his own love for alec. they kiss and it feels like relief and home and hope. 

IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE BUT THE THING WHERE THEY’RE A DISGUSTINGLY CUTE COUPLE AND THEY’RE BASICALLY ENGAGED BUT NOTHING OFFICIAL

so they recover from the battle and they mourn their fallen, celebrate their victories, and bring justice to the invaders. this young generation of leaders more or less formally ascends to power and usher in a new era of peace, collaboration, and unity (the fact that there are so many inter-kingdom royal romances certainly doesn’t hurt the alliance)

in this time of peace, cat and dot get married and adopt madzie, the polycule are living their best lives, and izzy gets together with clary. 

magnus and alec continue their courtship for a couple more years until they both turn of age to be crowned kings. alec plans an elaborate proposal that sweeps magnus off his feet and just a month after their respective coronations, they marry and their kingdoms are merged as one. and they all lived happily ever after
