Yo, does Belle Reve have a common area, or a mess hall? I think that’s the room Bloodsport was cleaning at the beginning of the movie. Just makes me wonder if any of the Task Force X members interacted before the Corto Maltese mission.

I feel like Cleo and Abner would’ve been the loners who ate by themselves; in Cleo’s case, not for a lack of trying. I think she would’ve had trouble getting along with the other inmates just because of the environment, and because she’s much younger compared to everyone else there. And Abner’s Abner. If they let him eat in his cell, he probably would.

But I feel like they would have stolen glances at one another, noticing each other’s isolation in such a crowded environment. Cleo’s a drawer, we know by the rat sketches in her cell, so I like to think she would doodle him while he wasn’t looking—she thinks he looks funny trying to eat with his power suppressor on—it endears him to her. She draws the other inmates, of course, but Abner sits still enough, for long enough, that she’s able to get some good sketches out of him, rather than half-finished attempts at capturing a likeness.

Maybe one day, they’re both going through the motions, and while Abner’s eating, someone (probably that bitch Calendar Man) comes over and spits in his food. Dejected ‘cause he’s obviously not gonna eat that, he just pushes his tray away. Not a second later, before he can get up to leave, he sees someone come over and replace his tray with a new one. He looks up and sees the girl whose face is always in her little sketch pad. She assures him that she wasn’t hungry anyway, and gives the soiled food to Sebastian (he’s a rat, he doesn’t care). Abner can only mutter a small, but grateful “thank you”, and the two part again, going back to their usual lunchtime routines.

(I just like to wonder what those freaks might’ve gotten up to while in prison.

Like, I feel like Abner was a big reader, and he’d spend his allotted free time in the Belle Reve library (if it has one idk), and he liked to read romances, but despite that, get frustrated because he couldn’t understand all the het relationships, lol.)
