Fellas is it gay to continue to sleep in the same room as a guy that you ‘hate’ even though there are thousands of other rooms you could stay in because the entire rest of the crew is dead? And even when the entire ship changes and you have a chance to change rooms, you still choose to sleep in the same bunk bed with the same guy that you definitely ‘hate’.

hi hello i'm finally watching the late seasons of red dwarf, seven onwards and can i just say: yes, having a high budget is bad for this show and it's crazy how misogynist it got considering they added a female character. i can see why everyone hates these episodes.

but also: absolutely the greatest tv episode about the jfk assassination of all time.

This afternoon’s reading material!

Definitely aching with how rough and desperate Lister’s backstory really is. The hunger, being so hopeless and depressed that he spent any money he managed to save on booze so it was just a vicious cycle, the conditions he slept in, the casual death and violence and grim realities of a sleezy, over-crowded Mimas he was desensitised to, stealing taxis and going to the worst parts of town just to make a few quid. Puts the whole show into a new perspective once you realise the circumstances he was in, and how horrified he was at the four-and-a-half years it would take to get back to Earth with no idea he was never getting there.

Seen other people echo this thought, but a book has no laugh track and no visual or audible gags, so it’s a lot easier to notice the actual bleak and dark elements to this world that can hide behind the comedy usually. The future they’re in is incredibly hostile and not designed for the majority to thrive in, not unless you already have a foot in the door or get lucky. Everyone is scraping by or finding ways to escape, whether it’s drugs or booze or immersive video games that slowly kill you.
