Imagine Gavin realizing that all of his previous lovers have been the reincarnation of the same person. Even after they die he keeps finding the Freelancer again and again.

Vindemiator went from wanting Freelancer as his insurance for the haven to completely regretting ever bringing them to the academy.

I think this especially hits hard for him because he was being used and abused by Kody and the slicers. He was forced to rely on them for food and they made sure to give him enough for slicing but not enough to fight back.

Imp! Freelancer basically has to stay close to Imp! Lasko in order to be able to visit Vindemiator. If they show the slightest bit of interest in him, their visitation is pushed back. Their interest in healing was pushed to the side and Imp! Lasko wanted to control their future.

Imp! Lasko wants that bond with them, but a bond cannot be forced.

Imp! Freelancer doesn’t feel special for being human born like Imp! Lasko does.

Imp! Freelancer lacks freedom like Vindemiator did and does. Vin feels as though their current situation is his fault and now he has to make it up to them.

All Imp! Freelancer cares about is Vindemiator and protecting him, because he is all they have in this world. He saved them and now they want to save him. He is all they have left and in a world that could possibly end, he is all they want.

Regardless of their fate, even if it’s only a minute or an hour of their life, if Imp! Freelancer can be with Vindemiator in a little house out in the woods , then they’ll have lived.

And for Vindemiator this also rings true. He wants them to know happiness and for them to have at least enjoyed life for once in their life.

“This place has taken enough choice from us. We’ll take the choice back together.”

They’re basically just:

“In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.”
