Barn door reduction cut, the first layer is slightly glittery copper ink and the second took me for ever and a half but I'm very proud of it.
Click for better quality, though I'll admit I still need to get a scanner it's still better and less blurry...

i had planned my 1634 lino to be two colour but ill be real that is filling me with dread. but i might as well bite the bullet and learn multi colour printing at some point. it’ll look better in black and blue anyways
#well like. i know how to do it i just dont wanna lol its so much workkkkk#i understand the allure of reduction lino but i hateeee the impermanence of it. like what if i wanted to use the block again…#so im gonna do two separate blocks. but im so bad at lining up blocks so im scare everything is gonna be misaligned#which is endearing in hand printed prints but its not ideal for multi colour stuff#this is an issue for later me i cant even start carving for like 5 days im just finishing the sketch rn and mentally planning things

I did these jigsaw reduction prints for Print Day in May 2024. I used “soft cut” instead of a linoleum block and it turns out that the angle of the exacto knife matters a lot if you want to take the jigsaw pieces in and out for each print. I am really proud of how much I learn from each new print, because I have no idea how things will turn out until I’m done. The next frontier is probably “making line carvings that look like recognizable objects” but for now I am LIVING for the amount of color that can fit on a single block :)

one thing i really enjoy on this website is when somebody posts a video of somebody doing something really cool that clearly takes a lot of skill/effort, but doesnt really stand out as particularly impossible
only for somebody else familiar w/ the topic to reblog and go "no i dont think you guys understand-" and explain the genuinely insane level of technical skill, training, precision, etc that goes into whatever was done in the video so that everybody can appreciate it even more
#something very similar happens w/ art that looks cool and then you look at the bottom and the medium used is something fucking ridiculous#like you see a cool photo and then it says 'oil on canvas' at the bottom#or a cool drawing that says 'wood block color reduction print' or something#its always so delightful to see esp when its pointed out or explained for everybody to enjoy
