Jamie was walking down by the waterfront. No one seemed to pay him much attention. It was the poorer part of town and Jamie seemed to fit right in. His dad owned the bar Finnegan’s which appealed to the kind of guy that worked the docks. Maybe Jamie should get a job fishing. He didn’t know much about fishing, but he could fit in with these guys. But he did have his job at the movie theatre already. And taking care of the kids. Being the eldest of seven, some part of his brain was always thinking about the kids. He was trying to relax though and he on a bench on the docks smoking a cigarette and sketching in a notebook.

Much to her dismay, Grace had been left to join in with the serving at the shop for the day after two of her staff had called in sick and, as her one remaining staff member washed dishes out the back, she stood up front, taking orders. She put on a smile as she heard the bell by the door jingle, signalling another customer. “Good morning. Would you like a moment to look at our menu or have you been here before?” She looked up.

rory was never one for parties these days. too many people in a small space just induced anxiety rather than fun. he figured that the bar would be dead tonight, most people out to the party at the dance hall, but he figured he’d stay open for his own benefit, maybe a few weary souls like himself, and possibly he’d get some people looking to continue the fun after the party. that suited him just as well. when the door bell jingled, rory tossed the towel he was using to wipe down the bar for the hundredth time over his shoulder, “what can i for?” he asked with his musical irish accent floating through the air.

there was never a bad time to party, but new’s eve definitely offered one of the best excuses, that’s for sure. of course you could find eli at the bar, winning some drinking competition against another man. as he tapped out, the gathering around them cheered for eli, who of course was cocky as ever. he finally got away from the crowd a little, moving down the bar to get a little more peace. with another shot in front of him, he was about to pound it back when someone got his attention. “hm?” he hummed loud enough to be heard as he turned to the person.

It was hard to admit, but Redwater was not quite what Patrick had imagined. He’d pictured a bohemian place, where the streets would be crowded with musicians and artists, someplace exciting and exotic. Yet, it wasn’t much different from his own little hometown. After living there for a while, the English man came to notice that his expectations were based on the view he had on Roger’s (his deceased partner and former resident) not about the city itself. In fact, the very own reason why Roger had left the city in the first place was to find something exciting overseas, right? Redwater wasn’t bad, though. In fact, it was pleasant. People were polite, the food was good and the fisherman always made sure to make the bars busy. So maybe, it was Patrick's own fault that he never got to experience the best the town has to offer. 

There weren't many people on the street that day, even though it was fairly warmer than the previous week.  Therefore, Patrick decided to take this chance and go for a walk by Cat’s Corner. He had a coffee by himself there (something pleasant, yet lonely) and as he was going home he was surprised by the sound of trumpets and horns. A little band was playing, and Patrick found himself hypnotised by their energy. He found somewhere to sit, leaving his cane resting close by so he could clap as they finished their act.

“Oh, that was wonderful. Don’t you love this song?” Patrick spoke almost to himself, not really expecting an answer. He was the stranger in town, after all.

Elsie was just finishing up at the diner. Her shift was only until five o'clock today which suited her just fine. She would miss a large portion of the dinner rush and she could go home and play with Hope, who wouldn't mind if she took her heels off and played barefoot or if she tied her hair back in a messy ponytail to keep it out of her face. That was one of the great things about kids. They usually weren't so judgy as adults. Elsie waved to the waitress who was taking over her shift. "I'll see you tomorrow," she said, trying to keep her upbeat appearance that she liked to wear as a mask when she was in public, especially at work. She was just about to leave when she bumped into someone."

a lot of things distracted ariel. from shiny objects he liked to collect, to people watching on the not-so-exciting streets of redwater, ariel was always doing something and letting something else drag his attention away. which is why it came as no surprise when he found himself talking to someone and not being able to remember how the conversation started. he blinked himself back to the present, re-focusing his gaze on the person in front of him. “neat,” he said without knowing what he was complimenting, a faux smile on his face.
