Hammond adds, “There may still be tile on the floor, but it’s broken up where it’s used to hold the blood of his victims. He’s flipped his existence.” “We had the blood fountain and furniture from France, the drapes from the octagonal room when he’s caught in the power circle,” he says. Dracula’s actual lair being in the old blood bank room, in the basement, was not explicitly laid out in the script. Hammond says, “Renfield is trying to make it easy for himself. He’s trying to kill fewer people. He doesn’t want to bring anyone to Dracula any more. So, the idea was that he picked the old blood bank area, maybe there was old blood in the freezer.” “I designed it again, we did it straightforward where the bloodbaths radiate from his head – Louis XIV combined with ‘Game of Thrones.’" “Translucent blood bags surrounding Dracula’s throne was great because we built a lot of lights in behind so you get red light cascading through the space, but you also get backlight where Nic was going to be. There’s a room at the back with at least 150 fully decomposed bodies, and there’s a blood smear where Renfield had to drag them across the floor.” On another side of the room is the blood fountain, with a lion’s head and a cascade of blood coming out of it. and in a far corner was where Renfield lives. “We had to lay out what he would do on this day-to-day basis in taking care of Dracula.”

Well, that unfortunately explains a whole frustrating lot about some questions I had pre-release.

Dracula is, while not their exclusive character (thank you public domain), one of Universal's oldest classic draws. Him, Frankenstein's Creature, and the handful of side bogeymen are the biggest hitters of the Universal Monsters crew. And unlike Renfield, TLVotD is the definition of classic horror! The Count's own gruesome bloodstained roots! It should have been promoted everywhere! Explosively!

And yet all this time, there's only been the one trailer. Barely any clips. Barely any interviews or BTS snippets I could scrape up, all of which would have been finished well before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes.

When you have to actively dig for movie updates instead of being bombarded with them in the inescapable ad barrage…that means there's nothing to promote with. Because nobody bothered to take care of the promotional needs for the movie.

No, The Last Voyage of the Demeter's not a masterwork of cinema. But it's a good period piece old school scary Dracula tale! It's a hundred times better than the generic Count Sexypire slop that's been churned out for decades! This movie was made for the fans of the book, fans of the monster! Which we almost never get to have! And it's getting screwed over because of studios' haggling and more of those lovely layoffs. Ugh.

If anyone out there has plans to see the movie in theaters, now's the time to get your ticket. With it getting axed on international releases and folks being only half-aware the thing's even happening, there's no knowing what a short shelf life it'll have on the big screen.

the bts picture of the nics in full costume just giggling is my fave. In the movie often Renfield had either a 'dracs, wtf dude?' or a 'dracs why u being mean to me, im your babygirl?' look on his face so to see them both just Dracs and Renny just giggling together is like so cute. like imagine Dracs just made a real bad pun to make babygirl laugh

Matthew calls the shots

“I can’t put in to words all the emotions we felt watching Matthew and his sister Lucy having such a great time during Matthew’s wish. He had the best time ever and we will look back at the photos with such happy memories.”

The words above come from Liz, mother of ten year old Matthew from Bristol, who was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was eight. Matthew loves the behind-the-scenes aspect of theatre, film and television and has always wanted to shout ‘cut’ from the Director’s chair. So when we asked what his Make-A-Wish wish was, we weren’t surprised when he chose to be a Director for the day…

Matthew was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma after complaining of a pain in his right leg. Despite months of intensive chemotherapy, in April last year he had to have his leg amputated above the knee, and has since been learning to use a prosthetic leg.

On the day of his wish, Matthew was picked up from his hotel and taken to the set of his favourite CBBC show, Young Dracula. After enjoying breakfast with the cast and being shown to his very own dressing room, he was thrilled to see a Director’s chair for him to use – with his name on, of course.

Then it was time for a look around the editing suite and script room, before his name was added to the call sheet as if he was a real member of the production team! Matthew had his make-up done (like the actors in Young Dracula), was allowed to operate the clapper board and watched the filming take place.

Matthew’s opinion of his big day? “I had the best time ever being a Director!”

hello renfield fandom im terrified to post my self indulgent dracula art so heres a halfbaked mockup of renfields general apartment layout! I went frame by frame and used the dvd bts to figure everything out and also realized by googling the abandoned motel they used for it that they… combined two rooms to make one large one which is fascinating ?

This is definitely not for a project where I plan on realizing his apartment in a 3d space whaaat haha ,,

Fun story. Had a major hyperfixation on Sonic the Hedgehog, especially the Live Action movies for two-ish years (2020-2022), so I knew Ben from all kinds of BTS and Red Carpet interviews and then saw him as Teddy when watching Renfield very spontaneously in cinema after seeing only one Teaser-Trailer for it (because why not treat myself to some Nic Cage and over the top gore on a boring afternoon), and because of Teddy I looked up more of his Live Action roles, found a clip of him as Yasper singing "yeah sure whatever", loved it, watched the Afterparty just for him and boom here we are now lol. (Ben Schwartz hyperfixation let's goooo <3)
